Watching two Michael Haneke features back-to-back doesn’t sound all that outrageous, right? What if they’re Funny Games (1997) and Funny Games (2007)? You start with one of the more disturbing flicks in Criterion’s closet, then immediately follow it with an American shot-for-shot remake that relives the same nightmare. My inner masochist couldn’t skip on tackling one of the stranger entries into Revenge of the Remakes, as two equally competent home invasion thrillers played out like a case of knife-twisting déjà vu.
Haneke jumped at the chance to make an American version of his Austrian commentary on the media’s exploitation of violence. Why wouldn’t he? A proud filmmaker saw an opportunity to help his bundle of anti-joy reach a wider audience, only made more relevant by the popularized 2000s period in horror history with “torture porn” leading the charge. Although, does shooting the exact storyboards like they...

Time Crimes: Blash’s Sophomore Feature of an Ambient Weirdness
Director M. Blash brings back two leads from his 2006 debut, Lying, for more rural weirdness with The Wait, this time exploring the effect of a matriarch’s death on a trio of siblings. Oddly and intriguingly textured, it’s a rather equal mix of supernatural elements, and morbid psychology, chock full of enough visual motifs and narrative thematics on life as a series of waiting periods between brief and sparse moments of action. In fact, its rather striking imagery holds more clues as to what’s going on than the minimal dialogue, a series of purposefully composed shots signaling that whether dying or being born, we’re stuck in an endless cycle of waiting for the next stage of existence.

DirecTV has been cooking up a unique recipe for a TV series. Full Circle, from playwright Neil Labute, is a fascinating experiment in storytelling. It features 11 people whose lives intertwine through out the show’s 10 episodes. The cast includes some pretty big names – I guarantee you’ll recognize more than a few. Boreanaz (Bones), Kate Walsh (Private Practice) and Minka Kelly (Friday Night Lights) are among the recently announced all-star ensemble cast. I was iffy on the concept behind Full Circle when I first heard about it, but now that I’ve seen the kind of talent the project has attractive, I feel like I have no choice but to check this out when it premieres.
The remaining cast members include Tom Felton (Harry Potter), Billy Campbell (The Killing), Julian McMahon (Nip/Tuck), Keke Palmer (Akeelah and the Bee), Devon Gearhart (The Wait), Noah Silver (The Borgias), Ally Sheedy (Welcome to the Rileys...

DirecTV's recently announced 10-episode original series "Full Circle" will be the television debut of filmmaker and playwright Neil Labute, so it comes as no surprise that the project has netted an impressive, star-filled cast. Making it a little easier is the fact that the half-hour drama is essentially an anthology series. Based on the play "La Ronde," each episode will feature two characters, with one carrying over to the next installment to be paired with someone new until the show comes back around to one of the first people to appear -- a light commitment for an actor. Set to star in the series are Tom Felton ("Harry Potter"), Minka Kelly ("Friday Night Lights"), Julian McMahon ("Nip/Tuck"), David Boreanaz ("Bones"), Keke Palmer ("Akeelah and the Bee"), Devon Gearhart ("The Wait"), Billy Campbell ("The Killing"), Kate Walsh ("Private Practice"), Noah Silver ("The Borgias"), Ally Sheedy ("Welcome to the Rileys"), Cheyenne Jackson...

There is one catastrophic ending, but from multiple perspectives.
“The Power of Few” is told from different viewpoints leading up to a catastrophic in New Orleans. Several off-beat characters are either witnesses or victims to the ultimate demise of a drive-by shooting, a car crash and a convenience store robbery in that order.
The first viewpoint is about Cory (Devon Gearhart) who must go down to the convenience store to acquire medicine, but lacked the money to pay the pregnant proprietor Mala (Moon Bloodgood) and her aspiring actor/husband Shane (Derek Richardson).
Then the film shoots off to two government agents Clyde and Marti (Christian Slater and Nicky Whelan) in a taxi cab seeking out a possible terrorist and bomb in New Orleans.
Another perspective is from a motorcycle deliverywoman Alexa (Q’orianka Kilcher) hired to deliver a package, but saves Dom (Jesse Bradford) from assassination by local thugs Junkshow...

Written and directed by Leone Marucci, this picture follows six different points of view unfolding on one sunny New Orleans afternoon, spanning twenty minutes of time, where each segment eventually intersects in one climactic moment where criminals and a high profile religious based heist collide.
Living in squalor with his hopped up mom (Louise Linton, Lions For Lambs) and baby brother, Cory (Devon Gearhart, Funny Games) decides that he must acquire medicine for his ailing brother, and thus takes off on a mission to rob The Space Bar, an internet café/grocery store run by the pregnant Mala (Moon Bloodgood, Terminator Salvation). Mala has been arguing with husband Shane (Derek Richardson, Hostel) about his aspiring acting career. Meanwhile, undercover agents Clyde (Christian Slater, True Romance) and Marti (Nicky Whelan, Halloween II) are on the hunt for a suspect that may have recently stolen the Shroud of Turin from the Vatican,...

Meaningless Affect: Marucci’s Interactive Film Project a Dreadful Observation of Social Awareness
Moments into Leone Marucci’s incomprehensibly obnoxious new film, The Power of Few should have one pondering not only how some of the notable cast members signed onto the film but how this received funding in the first place. Assaulting the senses like a New Orleans set Crash (2005) meeting indefinably interconnected drek of something like Answers to Nothing (2011), this amateur circus of poorly conceived nonsense may have been borne out of good intentions, but only serves to reinforce the notion of what path they pave. Developed by writer/director Marucci and producer/star Q’orianka Kilcher as an interactive project meant to involve a global audience, where online voters were able to determine casting, costumes, location, editing, and story development, results in what feels like the product of Communism on filmmaking. “God save us from the innocent and the good,...

Jena Malone has joined been cast as the lead in "The Go-Getters" in the Michael C. Martin film, reports Deadline. Apparently, she'll play Danneel Dobson, a struggling actress involved in a heist put together by two brothers Route 17 Entertainment's Matt Tauber, Damon Alexander, Jt Alexander and Andy Hyde produce "The Go-Getters." Interesting news since we just added an article about Malone's "Sucker Punch" co-star Abbie Cornish in talks to join the "Robocop" remake. Malone was in the 2012 Sundance Film Festival Grand Jury Prize-nominated "For Ellen" drama alongside Paul Dano and Jon Heder. The actress is currently in post-production phase for "The Wait" helmed and scripted by M. Blash. That film also includes Chloë Sevigny, Luke Grimes, Devon Gearhart, Michael O'Keefe and Josh Hamilton.

#48. The Wait - M.Blash M. Blash’s debut film Lying went straight to Cannes, I wonder if this time out he'll hit a fest like Sundance before attempting to repeat with the French. M. Blash's The Wait comes in with virtuality no buzz, but then again, Meek's Cutoff wasn't even a blip on the radar before the Venice announcement. Starring Jena Malone, Chloë Sevigny, Luke Grimes and Devon Gearhart, the film follows two sisters who decide to keep their deceased mother in the house after receiving a call that she will come back to life. M. Blash's Lying made it to Cannes, but it failed to make much of a splash anywhere else. Benefitting from a name cast in thesps Chloe Sevigny and Jena Malone, it took me a couple of tries to work through the denseness of the quasi-drama. Bobby Bukowski's muted colors and the applied improvisational technique were perhaps the film's most difficult hurdle to overcome. Blash is back with what I imagine is a more applied screenplay and instead of upstate New York, he has set up his next project in Van Sant country - Portland, Ore.. According to Variety, Sevigny and Malone are once again joining Blash and the new add-on comes in the shape of Shit Year's Luke Grimes and Devon Gearhart (the kid in Haneke's Funny Games U.S. also has a part). Filming began this week. Titled The Wait, it appears the project is part of...

To continue my review of my epic journey to watch all my films from A-z, this is the Sixth part.
For those that don’t know I am watching all 750+ Dvd/Bluray films from A-z which has so far taken me 3 years to get to the I’s!
I thought I should retrospectively review each letter and give my top 5 films from each alpha block and maybe bring your attention to some films you may not have seen, films you’ve not seen in ages or films you should give another try. Click here to read parts A to E.
The F’s seemed to contain more horror films that most of the other alpha blocks containing Final Destination 1-3, Fright Night, Frighteners and especially the Friday 13th movies taking up 11 of my F collection. Also I have a few films new to my collection that I haven’t had...

The players: Director: Robert Rodriguez, Writer: Robert Rodriguez, Cast: Jimmy Bennett, Kat Dennings, Devon Gearhart, Rebel Rodriguez, Leo Howard, Leslie Mann, William H. Macy, Jolie Vanier
Facts of interest: Robert Rodriguez also directed the "Spy Kids" films.
The plot: A small community slips into chaos when a bunch of kids find a magical rock that grants wishes to the one holding it.
Our thoughts: Robert Rodriguez returns to the family genre with “Shorts,” a goofy big-screen adventure I wouldn’t recommend to anyone but younger cinemagoers. The film is eccentric and colorful enough to entertain those with the same age as its main protagonists, but as far as I’m concerned, this one failed to win me over.

Closing in to its U.K. release on November 26, "Changeling" has just got an exclusive 22 minutes long video footage, consisting of five new featurettes from the Clint Eastwood-directed drama thriller. Starting it all with a featurette entitled "Finishing the Fight: The Making of Changeling", the compilation continues with other featurettes called "Ripped From the Headlines", "The 'Eastwood' Method", "Dressing The Part" and "Recreating Old Los Angeles".
Having varied viewing time, each of the featurettes discusses different subjects of the based-on-real-event movie. They also present a look behind the film's production from the story of one woman's struggle to find her missing son amidst insurmountable odds to the directing part of Eastwood, and from the challenges to make the costume believable to the recreation of late 1920 Los Angeles amidst the modern city.
The idea of developing this Angelina Jolie-starring movie first came to screenwriter J. Michael Straczynski several years...

So we're not focusing on "Saw V" as, frankly, ever since the original came out, that's always the usual focus for most sites running a Halloween week feature. Let's rather talk about quality films such as this week's MovieJungle.com focus on "Changeling." Oscar® buzz once again runs amock for another Clint Eastwood film with Academy Award® winner Angelina Jolie frontlining the powerful release. J. Michael Straczynski marks this film as his major entry into film releases. The writer has just under thirty credits to his name only for TV based releases. Of note are "Babylon 5," "Murder She Wrote" and "Jeremiah." As far as upcoming film projects go, we'll leave out those labeled as "announced" as anything as such can go either way. Stracynzki is in post production-phase for the James McTeigue ("The Invasion," "V for Vendetta") helmed "Ninja Assassin" starring Naomie Harris, Kang Sung, Randall Duk Kim, Rick Yune and Rain.
