Okay for the record I despised the 2007 remake of "Halloween" and although now I've gotten over the fact that he did do it, I still couldn't help but come in "Halloween 2" with the worst of expectations. I mean I was already a little mad that it seemed that he was going to flat out ignore the original "Halloween II", but you know what I'm glad he did. The absolute MAIN reason I enjoyed "Halloween 2" as much as I did was the fact that it avoided the 2007 remakes main problem. That problem was that in the 2007 remake the reason it was so bad was because they failed miserably at trying to tribute the 1978 "Halloween" yet at the same time trying to make it new and original. Wheareas in this one it's not like that at all, it's more of a standalone sequel. This makes it original and new and fresh, because they wern't trying to copy or rip-off something and call it "fresh" it was. I just really truly appreciated that fact that "Halloween 2" tried it's best to make itself interesting and not as infuriating as the original was. In result the movie actually wasn't bad at all. Well for starters this movie truly kept me on the edge of my seat from start to finish, I liked that. It truly reminded me of that true feeling of high tension in scenes of horror. Sure they were more 1 second jump scares, but hey ain't nothing with that. It thrilled me like no other horror movie this year has seem to have done. Also I just appreciate the whole psychological horror aspect, and I liked that. Plus it's always cool to see in sequels the aftermath of the original. Also I just feel that the writing was much better, and I only say much because we all experienced the disaster of the 2007 one. I also liked the first 20 minutes and it sets the tone for the rest of the film very well, as well as the ending. However once again Rob Zombie (although his writing is ,in a retro way, original) still had flaws. For example many characters still seemed faceless, and it really annoyed me in scenes where they tried to make the characters make like a totally obscure analogies to some sort of pop culture thing, it just made it seem desperate for people to like it. Also cool it with the whole punk rock atmosphere, I know that's your favorite type music Mr. Zombie but come on their is a point to where it becomes atmospheric in a clever way, and over-the-top annoying way; it crossed that line after the first 40 minutes. Plus it was predictable, you always pretty much knew what was about to happen. Also the acting from some people still lacked. For example for the first half Malcolm McDowel is still gives his over-the-top laughable performance as Dr. Loomis(After the first half he gets better) and the boy who played the young Michael Myers coundn't act at all. Plus although I like Sheri Moon Zombie, she's just not that great an actress. Overall although "Halloween 2" does have it's flaws I must say it's probably the scariest horror film of the year. Also note if you hated the remake (like me) just come into this movie not expecting a whole lot, maybe like me you'll be surprised.
