ABC Studios is coming out with a slew of television DVD releases once fall approaches, and the pack of offerings run the complete gamut of reaction possibilities. From your favorite shows, to television's biggest "oh my God, that's still on" titles, to "Woops, there goes that show," it's all coming for your viewing and owning pleasure.
Of course, all of these shows have their fans, and ABC has put together nice packages on their previous releases, and these are no different.
Whether you love or hate the shows, they are at least upping the game a bit on DVD release bonus features. I suppose it's becoming mandatory as audiences demand it, and DVD sales (apparently) are slipping in general, but I find that TV shows feel like they are lacking without them even more than films. Something about the long-term investment, fan status, and apparent ease of creation, I suppose.

Mary Alice (Brenda Strong) : "The suburbs are full of parents...each has their own style: disciplinarian, smotherer, and negotiator. One thing they all have in common is they love to judge the parent next door." Lee (Kevin Rahm) appears to be forcing Jenny to practise the violin. Gaby (Eva Longoria) believes you can't force children to do things, is she speaking from her past experience where she does force the girls to do things, or where Carlos (Richardo Antonio Chavira) always has to 'force' Gaby to do things she doesn't want to. Lee says Jenny told them she wanted to learn the violin and Mandarin too. Lee asks what Juanita (Madison De La Garza) is doing by herself for the school talent show. "Each parent has their own style but deep down they're all afraid they're doing it wrong." Mary Alice: "There are many things that bring us pleasure; baking,...

Mary Alice (Brenda Strong) "Lynette (Felicity Huffman) lost a lot of sleep over the years, feeding, temperatures - but never complained because a mother is always on call..." She's woken up and asked how to make omelettes for the girls the twins, Porter (Charlie Carver) and Preston (Max Carver) have brought home. They've been bringing their "whatevers" here for months. Mary Alice: "Lynette had lost a lot of sleep over the years, she was getting tired of it." "There are all sorts of ways to leave - some shake hands...waves, hugs...those who refuse to leave until someone else yells, 'get out'. Tom (Doug Savant) and Lynette want to kick the twins out. Susan (Teri Hatcher) is on the phone complaining all of her insurance won't cover her dialysis treatments, when she's pulled over by a cop. He feels sorry for her when she mentions she's late for...

Mary Alice: (Brenda Strong) "Paul Young had a son but he had not seen Zach in years...he lost him to a world of fast women, easy money and hard drugs...he was determined to find him and he would do anything, even if that meant asking for help from a man who despised him." Paul (Mark Moses) asks Mike (James Denton) for help. Zach's (Cody Kasch) mansion is in foreclosure and Paul admits to Mike he was shot by Zach with the same gun Mary Alice used to kill herself. Zach was last in Idaho. Paul's disappointed with Zach. "Though he didn't admit it, Mike knew exactly where Zach was , but the son Paul Young had lost, had no interest in being found." Was Zach hiding out in the same house where Lynette (Felicity Huffman) went into labour last season. Mary Alice: "It doesn't matter where we're...

Mary Alice: (Brenda Strong) "Gaby's (Eva Longoria) biological daughter was erased and she struggled to cope. Tom (Doug Savant) had a 20 year old secret...he once slept with his wife's best friend, it no longer mattered to him but his wife felt differently. That's why she had decided to punish him and torture him and humiliate him...have her revenge before she told him she knew." Tom rips his pants. Renee (Vanessa Williams) thinks she made a mistake telling Lynette (Felicity Huffman) about them, well then she shouldn't have but it's too late now. Lynette thinks what she's doing to him is better than smashing his head and she's not ready to get over it yet. Since when he apologizes, she'll cry and then forgive him. Besides no one's getting hurt and he slips on some peanut butter strategically placed on the stairs. What if one of the children had stepped on it.

Consider James Denton (luckily!) dogged by Lois Lane. Not only does he call Lois & Clark‘s Teri Hatcher “wife” on ABC’s Desperate Housewives (Sundays at 9/8c), but he suits up as the Man of Steel himself in All-Star Superman, the latest in Warner Home Video’s series of DC Universe animated movies, on sale Tuesday.
TVLine spoke with Denton about his maiden flight as Supes and working with one of the series’ most vivacious Lois Lanes — Mad Men‘s Christina Hendricks. He also shares a peek at a funny-slash-sexy Housewives twist, and previews how a surprise savior will keep Mike from losing Susan forever.

Paul enlisted the help of his mortal enemy Feb. 13 to find out who tried to kill him. As it turns out, the answer was… kind of obvious.
It was Zach (Cody Kasch), okay? Zach Young shot his daddy (Mark Moses) point blank after last winter’s big riot. I’m sorry to come to right out and say it without a big “spoiler alert,” but wasn’t it obvious at this point? It was even obvious to Paul, who asked Mike (James Denton) to track down his biological drug-addict son personally. But maybe Mike should have been paying less attention to Zach and more attention to his wife…
Susan (Teri Hatcher) got a kidney this week… and a stalker! She bumped into an old ‘friend’ from high school, Monroe, who suspiciously decided to donate his kidney to her cause. As it turned out, this ‘friend’ has been carrying a torch...

What a better time to review Chain Letter than today (Feb. 1st) the day it hits DVD and Blu-ray everywhere. Usually, if a film starts to generate some buzz based on early, or limited screenings, I go out of my way to remain willfully ignorant of it's contents. “Chain Letter” is something that I begun hearing buzz about in early 2010. Apparently it did a short theatrical run earlier in the year...
The buzz was all about the gore, and how insane the gore was, and gore this, and that. Don't get me wrong, I love gore, but after “A Serbian Film”, it's not something I get worked up over. I am a huge proponent of practical effects, so I definitely give kudos when filmmakers go that route, but other than that, I just want a good film. “Chain Letter” deliver?
The short answer is no, but allow me to articulate for you,...

Despite having only several titles released this week in our beloved genre, some of them are deemed very worthy of our hard-earned dollars.
While there were strong initial feelings about a Us remake of a damn near perfect foreign film, the end result is hauntingly accessible to fans of both the book as well as its film adaptation, Let the Right One In. How will you feel about it? Decide for yourself this week. Once you're done with your decision making, raise your Hatchets high and get ready to have a bloody good time because the movie they didn't want you to see is finally here! From there after slugging it out in the swamps of Louisiana, get ready to face off against extraterrestrials in Gareth Edwards' Monsters!
So, go forth and bring home these gems. You know how we feel about them.

In last episode's crazy riot, a few of our main characters were hurt pretty badly. But, it seems the "Desperate Housewives" producers have moved on from the incident to the last big event before the winter hiatus: Paul Young's (Mark Moses) shooting.
Otherwise, the producers have finally given Susan (Teri Hatcher) a storyline other than "Oops, did I do that?" After being trampled in the riot, she lost her one good kidney. The other one isn't working too well and until she can get a transplant, she'll be on dialysis.
Even more interesting is Gaby's (Eva Longoria) descent into crazy as Carlos (Ricardo Chavira) forces her to let go of all things "Grace," so that Juanita (Madison De La Garza) gets over her displacement issues. We cannot wait to see how far off the deep end Gaby goes. The "Grace" doll has to be the start of something craptastic.

Come October, nearly half the titles at the local multiplex will be devoted to the horror genre. With "Devil" and "Resident Evil: After Life" already scaring up audiences, "Let Me In," "Case 39," and "Chain Letter" are all going to be scouring for victims when they all open on October 1st.
"Let Me In," a remake of the critically-acclaimed Swedish film "Let the Right One In," is certainly in the lead both by way of hype and praise, with critics saying not only is the remake from "Cloverfield" director Matt Reeves not unnecessary, it improves upon the original in some aspects. But the blood and gore-filled tale of a social outcast who bonds with a 12-year-old girl who happens to be a vampire is definitely no "Twilight." Brad Miska of horror site Bloody Disgusting says it's "the new standard for vampire movies."

The producers of "Desperate Housewives" aren't giving up whose baby was switched or why exactly Paul Young is returning to Wisteria Lane, but they did share a good amount about what we'll see in the first part of Season 7 during a set visit Tuesday (July 27).
Read on for details about Vanessa Williams' and Brian Austin Green's characters, Teri Hatcher's "shady" new boss and more.
Lynette's friend
Williams plays Renee Perry, Lynette's (Felicity Huffman) former college roommate who moves to Wisteria Lane after hitting a rough patch with her husband. "The have sort of a frenemy relationship," executive producer Bob Daily says. "Renee had gone off to New York and married a very wealthy pro athlete, a baseball player. She's always been a little more wealthy than Lynette, had more of a jet-set, no-kids kind of lifestyle. ... We'll continue to play that friend/bitter rival relationship with them.

There is only one appropriate response to a chain letter. Delete. Then unleash your best arsenal of curses that you picked up in the Merchant Marines against the sender.
The same applies to Chain Letter, Deon Taylor’s upcoming horror film. I use the term “film” loosely. The editing and plotting have the choppy grace of a YouTube mashup. But Chain Letter runs 90 minutes long, compounding your suffering.
Rather than watch Chain Letter, you can have the same experience for far less money and agony. Go to the seediest Starbucks in Hollywood. Find the flailing hobo with suspicious stains on his trousers. He’s on the corner, ranting. Buy him a coffee and ask his screenplay idea.

Why do film studios i.e. Deon Taylor Studios choose to make a movie based off of the latest technological device, or latest fad i.e. chain letter, text messaging? Does this kind of film have staying power? No one remembers the film Text, or the television series Voicemail, but here we have another gimmicky titled film called Chain Letter. Maybe director Deon Taylor (7eventy 5ive) can spark something imaginative in Chain Letter. Yet, the title and synopsis says shallow drivel, despite Taylor's somewhat excellent track record (Night Tales, The Hustle). This is only an opinion, as the film has not been reviewed here, or seen. However, to really excite a viewers' fears look at the mythology that children are raised on i.e. Hansel and Gretel (cannibalism, infanticide), Little Red Riding Hood (attempted murder, mutilation) and others. Have chain letters and a connection to fear sunk deep enough into...

There’s no way I’m going to get this right. We never say precisely what we ought to when we part, the words are never perfect enough — not even for those of us who get paid to write them…or used to, anyway. I’m sorry to say that this is the last time we’ll walk the Beat together as I'm leaving EW. So I’ll tell you what, Coppers, let’s save the hugs for the end, stuff down the tears (I grant that they’re probably all mine), and take a stroll. I’m ready if you are.

You know what? I'm super excited about Deon Taylor's upcoming flick under the Twisted Pictures banner, Chain Letter, and not just because the movie has a great cast and is rumored to have some insane kills.
I'm excited because of Taylor himself! Why? Because of his anthology Nite Tales (review here). That little low budget flick had every right to completely suck, but it didn't. True, Flava Flav almost killed it, but he's not in Chain Letter and that's a bonus right there! Taylor's energy and enthusiasm to make a good horror movie won me over. I expect the same from his latest effort.

SXSW is one of my favorite festivals of the year as it showcases some of the best and most innovative real independent films, and with this host of world premiers, it's also playing alot of Sundance material as well as genre fare from all over the world, many of which we've covered heavily in these pages.
From the Sundance lineup, we have films like Moon, The Immaculate Conception of Little Dizzle, You Won't Miss Me, Grace, and Humpday, among others.
For the world genre material we've covered, there's Lake Mungo, The Square, Zift, and Awaydays.
I think you get the point that lots of great looking film will be playing. I'll leave a bit of the exploration to you..
Lineup after the break.

Talent agency TalentWorks is heading in a new direction, with a revamped focus on young-adult and adult divisions as well as on its emerging reality business.
In addition, the agency has booked client Brooke Nevin as the female lead in the Icon Prods. feature film "Infestation" and Robert Buckley in a recurring role on NBC's upcoming "Lipstick Jungle".
And TalentWorks has signed Rick Dees, morning host for Los Angeles' Movin' 93.9 FM, and Cody Kasch (ABC's "Desperate Housewives") as clients.
TalentWorks will no longer focus on the younger kids market but instead help develop and package reality and scripted projects for clients. In the reality arena, TalentWorks packaged Scott Baio in the upcoming VH1 series "Scott Baio Is 45 ... and Single" and has placed several clients in unscripted shows, including Scott Hamilton (Fox's "Skating With Celebrities"), David Hasselhoff (NBC's "America's Got Talent"), Brett Butler (CBS' "Moochers"), Tracey Gold (TV Guide Network's "Trapped in TV Guide") and William Shatner (various projects).
"With more and more opportunities becoming available in the young-adult and adult areas, it was natural that we made this the core area of our business," said president and owner Harry Gold, who started the agency 25 years ago.

Desperate Housewives star Cody Kasch has managed to avoid marijuana possession charges - as long as he stays out of trouble for the next year, a New York City judge has ruled. The 17-year-old actor, who plays troubled teenager Zach Young in the hit drama, was arrested by plainclothes police officers in Manhattan's East Village after they spotted him allegedly smoking marijuana in public. On Monday, Manhattan Criminal Court Judge Evelyn Laporte told Kasch the fifth-degree drug possession charge will be dropped next year, on the condition he avoids further arrest over the time. Kasch will return to court on June 20, 2006 to assess his record.
