Sexuality is a mysterious force of nature. It is a sacred moment when soulmates, fully aware of the profound consequences and responsibilities ahead, unite to create a new human being. This joyous gift of Life's cosmic rebirth is certainly worthy of mature thought and discussion, even though mere words can only hint at the transcendent wonders in the heart of true, complete Love.
On "The View", sex is an endless, crude joke. It contaminates the show. There is no surface for the subject to simmer beneath. Upcoming topics are commonly teased with unnecessary double meanings--"Out of the closet" for fashion, and "Flowering and deflowering" about Lisa Ling's 2002 Rose parade experience. I find it creepy and unhealthy--people aren't meant to run through a jar of spice every day.
For a show pervaded with sex-talk, the superficial "humor" only serves to distance and trivialize the subject. What should ideally be a treasured personal and special aspect of our lives, in the context of mutual love, devotion, giving, and cherishing, cries out for an attitude of respect, indeed awe. How sad it is to live in such an unsophisticated age where shows like this get whooping, standing ovations.
