In The Gifted‘s fall finale, the stage was set for a major mutant rescue, until a triple threat of sorts arrived on the scene to make mayhem.

Need to catch up? Check out the previous Outlander recap here.
Not one but two blasts from the past interrupt Claire and Jamie’s tropical getaway in this week’s Outlander, and I honestly can’t say which one tickles me more.
Is it Lord John, the newly appointed governor of Jamaica, who elicits wildly different reactions in Mr. and Mrs. Fraser when they unknowingly wind up in his home? Or is it Geillis “I’m Back, Bitches” Duncan, who is reintroduced into the action as she — and this is no exaggeration — luxuriates in a tub full of blood?

After all the action over the last few weeks, The Gifted slows down a little. Focusing on building tension in the mutant group, and showing how far Sentinel Services are willing to go, we are now seeing a build up to a possible war.
This week Eclipse (Sean Teale) must do as promised and answer the call of the Cartel. When Reed (Stephen Moyer) finds out about Lauren’s (Natalie Alyn Lind) new friend’s past tension is caused between father and daughter. Thunderbird (Blair Redford) tracks down Blink (Jamie Chung) to help her in her search, and Jace Turner (Coby Bell) and Dr. Campbell (Garret Dillahunt) work together on a plan to take down the Mutant Underground.

Editor’s note: The following is an edited excerpt from “Miller and Max: George Miller and the Making of a Film Legend” by Luke Buckmaster.
The George Miller of the 1970s would never have believed he would one day be spearheading a production with a budget estimated at a staggering $150 million. Miller had made the first three movies when he was in his thirties. At sixty-seven, when “Fury Road” commenced principal photography, those days were far back in the past. Shooting the original film in Melbourne felt like a lifetime ago.
For his first “Mad Max” movie in close to three decades, Miller wanted to be on the frontline at all times. But he soon realized that was impossible given the scale of production: a 138-day shoot with complicated stunts occurring on a near-daily basis. State-of-the-art technology made the job easier — or at least improved communication. High-definition video reception was broadcast in multiple locations,...

Jason Vorhees is cool. Freddy Krueger is cool. Ash Williams is extremely cool. So tossing all three of them into the same film and letting them bloodily duke it out sounds like the badass monster mash of the century. With that in mind, we have to ask, why did it never happen?
After all, 2003’s Freddy vs. Jason tore up the box office upon its release and neither character is any stranger to chronic sequelitis. Indeed, for the longest time, it was rumored the Ash vs. Jason vs. Freddy was on the brink of being greenlit, only for it to disappear back into development hell.
Now, in an interview at Nycc, Bruce Campbell finally explained why the project never got off the ground:
“We had a five minute conversation with New Line Cinema about Ash vs. Jason vs. Freddy. They approached us. So they go, ‘What do you think about that?...

Jan. 6, 1994, continues to be known as the day one of the biggest sports scandals in American history took place. Olympians Tonya Harding and Nancy Kerrigan were preparing for their second Games together when Kerrigan was attacked - but was Harding involved? She holds onto her innocence to this day. Multiple documentaries have been made on the incident, and now Margot Robbie will star in Hollywood's big-budget film I, Tonya, set to hit theaters on Dec. 8. The scandal occurred over 20 years ago, yet the movie offers a new reason to revisit the case. In a time when some women choose to tear each other down for the sake of their own careers and relationships, the movie will surely open a fresh perspective. Their Relationship Harding was the first American woman to land a triple axel (the name just sounds difficult in itself) in the 1991 Us Figure Skating Championships. She ended up...

Bruce Campbell will always be associated with Ash Williams from The Evil Dead. From the series’ splattered beginnings in the 1980s through to the bizarre yet awesome medieval spoof The Army of Darkness, through various spinoff videogames and, most recently, to the sleeper hit Ash vs. Evil Dead. There’s just something about his goofy, matinee idol looks and famously prominent chin that makes him the perfect foil for the deadite hordes.
But now, if we’re reading this interview that Campbell did with Syfy Wire right, Ash might be gone for good. When the outlet asked him a question beginning with, “When you hang up that chainsaw for the last time and Ash is gone, you’re moving on…” Campbell interrupted them with, “Who says I haven’t?”
When pressed on this, he added, “We finished season three of Ash vs Evil Dead. At the end of that season,...

May the Fourth be with you!
Since Disney bought LucasFilm in 2012, excitement around May 4 has been tied to new additions to the Star Wars universe. (This is the third consecutive year that a new film in the franchise has been released.) But there is an even more festive reason to hug the nearest Wookie this “Star Wars Day,” aka “May the Fourth:” the fast approaching 40th anniversary of Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope.
Last month, at the 2017 Star Wars Celebration, George Lucas dropped by the commemoration to discuss Episode IV, as well as pay tribute to the passing of our princess general, Carrie Fisher. In his reflection on the movie, Lucas summarized his original intention for the now-iconic film.

When it gets personal for McGarrett, watch out!
McGarrett turned up the heat when a survivor of the USS Arizona got killed by a band of bank robbers on Hawaii Five-0 Season 7 Episode 22.
This episode effectively showcased McGarrett's heart as he sought justice for the granddaughter of that survivor.
After all, Lexi got to have her grandfather for all his long life, while McGarrett never knew his grandfather and namesake, Steven, who was killed at Pearl Harbor.
Still, he obviously bonded with her.
It saddened me to see an award-winning actor, Hal Holbrook, gone after one live scene (and a second on video). I fondly remember him and wife Dixie Carter on Designing Women, and he was great as a feisty senior on NCIS: Los Angeles Season 8 Episode 16.
But there wouldn't have been a case that resonated so much with McGarrett without that happening, so I get it.

The tagline did not lie. We laughed. We cried. We hurled.
Wayne’s World premiered 25 years ago today! Speaking to Et throughout the film’s production, stars Mike Myers and Dana Carvey discussed the origin of the popular Saturday Night Live characters as they were making their film debut.
When Wayne (Myers) and Garth (Carvey) hit the big screen in 1992, it had been over a decade since The Blues Brothers, SNL’s first foray into feature films. Debuting in 1989, the characters appeared on the sketch comedy institution several times with guests that included Tom Hanks, Bruce Willis, Mary Tyler Moore and Madonna.
The 1990 sketch with Hanks proved especially memorable (“sibilance”), with Aerosmith jamming out a cover of the Wayne’s World theme song and Myers’ titular character evolving in real time. It may have proved to be a vital tipping point toward its future movie adaptation, as development on the screenplay began that year.

I watch a lot of TV. If you're reading this, I assume you do too. It's hard to surprise us. By necessity, shows often follow a formula of sorts. There are thousands of tropes to trip across and try to make fresh. Things can come predictable.
That's what I was planning to say about Code Black Season 2 Episode 13. I mean, I was literally saying lines just before characters did. But just as I started mentally planning a two thumbs down review, a miraculous thing happened.
I was surprised.
"Unfinished Business" would have been good no matter what, I'm sure. We got deep insight to a beloved doctor from a show that is typically more "trauma(s) of the week" than character driven. But taking the mundane predictability and then turning it against viewers was genius.
It was frustrating up until the big reveal, and in retrospect, that seems like a gamble.

There's something about the dark that gets people to open up.
The docs on Code Black Season 2 Episode 11 were no different. In the dark, Jesse found a way to win over Campbell, Mario found some confidence, and Amanda convinced Ethan to try something different.
While "Exodus" certainly pushed the boundaries on how many medical show tropes could be squeezed into one episode., the writers managed to avoid being too predictable. Some ground was retread, but overall, it was a solid offering.
In fact, the only part about about the blackout story line that bothered me was the blackout itself. The premise has been done before on ER and Grey's Anatomy and what felt like a dozen episodes of Mash. But those all had explainable reasons for the lights to go out.

Great Job, Internet!: Bruce Campbell has an unexpected horror film recommendation for this Halloween
Thanks to the Evil Dead series, Bruce Campbell is a bit of a horror icon these days. He even resurrected the series for Starz’s Ash Vs. Evil Dead, which sees Campbell reprising the role of ace Deadite-killer Ash Williams. With October’s spooktacularity ramping up in advance of Halloween at the end of the month, Entertainment Weekly decided to ask Campbell—who recently held is own horror film fest in Chicago—if he had any scary movie recommendations to share. Now, Campbell is basically an expert in this field, so it’d be natural to assume he’d make some relatively obscure pick. After all, nobody asks Bruce Campbell to recommend a horror movie just so he can tell them to watch Halloween again.
Naturally, Campbell didn’t pick Halloween. Instead, he decided to go with The Tenant, a 1976 Roman Polanski film about a man who rents an ...

Peaky Blinders delivers a blisteringly strong episode packed with memorable moments and moral debate…
This review contains spoilers.
When Curly told Tommy it was bad luck to have killed a stag, it wasn’t just gypsy superstition talking. Stags are symbolically linked with Christ in Catholic art. It’s fitting then, for an episode framed by religious acts—Polly’s confession, Tommy’s forced act of contrition—that the beast died on Good Friday.
The Easter Sunday resurrection however, looks like it’ll belong to Tommy. Series three now having reached the traditional point at which Tommy Shelby survives a beating so brutal it’d kill any other man (with two more series confirmed, what else could happen?), we left him blind, bleeding and at death’s door.
But still swinging punches, as is the Shelby way. Before letting Ada call an ambulance, Tommy launched a desperate counter-attack on the Economic League.

Marvel and ABC have been teasing the assembly of The Secret Warriors since the announcement of a third season of Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D., and on tomorrow night’s instalment, “The Team,” we’ll finally get to see ’em in action.
In this new sneak peek from the episode, It looks like Daisy Johnson and her Inhuman recruits (Lincoln Campbell, Yo-Yo Rodriguez and Joey Gutierrez) have been sent to infiltrate a Hydra compound in the hopes that they can locate the man that’s been causing Coulson some serious grief this season: Gideon Malick.
Though they may not have much field experience, the powerful trio have little trouble dispatching the waves of Hydra goons they encounter – and Lincoln even manages to lay eyes on Malick.
So, mission accomplished? Well, as worried as ol’ Gideon looks, there’s no way the devious Hydra boss doesn’t have something else up his sleeve.

This may be the first Disney trailer to ever open with the heroine of the film running away from someone because they are about to manually stimulate her to orgasm. Well-played, Alice Through The Looking Glass. Landing somewhere between Sucker Punch and Return To Oz, the opening of this trailer comes up with a very different reason to send Alice running than the first film did, and then kicks into an assault of hyper-vivid eye candy that is almost startlingly insane. James Bobin is picking up what Tim Burton put down, and while I like Bobin, maaaaaaaaaaaaan, do I hate the overall visual design of this world. It is aggressively unpleasant at every turn, and while they are technically drawing from Lewis Carroll’s work, I find this interpretation very off-putting. In particular, I hate Johnny Depp’s The Mad Hatter. There is a particular type of Johnny Depp performance I dislike,...

Post-“Mad Men,” Vincent Kartheiser doesn’t seem to have an issue with typecasting. After all, there are very few similarities between ’60s ad executive Pete Campbell and his character William Bradford on Nat Geo’s 17th-century-set colonial miniseries “Saints & Strangers,” which comes to a conclusion tonight. Kartheiser told TheWrap that every role he’s taken since “Mad Men” has felt like the opposite of Campbell, because that character was so detailed and anchored to a specified place and time. And playing Bradford, the longtime governor of Plymouth Colony, proved a bigger challenge in preparation. “This isn’t World War II,...

20 years later, Pierce Brosnan's first Bond movie is still his best.
After a six-year absence from the big screen, 007 returned with the very-90s, but very action-packed, "GoldenEye." Despite headlines in the press asking if the world needed James Bond anymore, audiences seemed to think it did -- they helped the film become a huge hit at the box office, spawning three more films for Brosnan and a popular Nintendo game.
In honor of the film's 20th (?!) anniversary on November 17, here are 20 things you may not know about one of 007's most popular missions.
1. Legal issues prevented MGM from getting a new Bond movie out after the tepid reaction to 1989's "License to Kill," grounding 007 for six years -- the longest wait in-between films in the franchise's history.
2. In 1990, before the title and plot were locked down, producer Michael G. Wilson contributed a treatment and "Wiseguy" writer Alphonse Ruggerio...

20. Story of Ricky (Lik wong) – Starring Siu-Wong Fan as the titular character, Riki Oh, based on a manga series which eventually became an anime, marks the end of an era of Japanese exploitation flicks, before the new generation of filmmakers such as Takashi Miike took over. Unlike Miike’s movies, or other recent entries such as Tokyo Gore Police, Riki Oh’s tone borders on comedy, played up by bad voice dubbing, foolish plot lines, cartoonish gore and eccentric characters (including a one-eyed assistant warden with a hook for a hand). For a prison film, the movie never seems mean-spirited, and if anything it masquerades as a bizarre superhero flick. The effects are the main draw – Riki Oh exists simply to showcase several outlandish set pieces, ramping up the level of violence, gore and action with each new scene. Made before the days of CGI, director Lam relies simply on practical effects,...

Ash Vs. Evil Dead certainly came as a surprise. After all, with the gritty reboot already made, who thought we would see a return to the original Evil Dead continuity? The Oscars aren't until next Sunday, but the race will be all over by Tuesday. The 17th is the day ballots are due; after that, it's all in the hands of the number-crunchers at Pricewaterhouse Cooper. Still, there were a lot of last-minute awards given out over the weekend by several of the professional groups -- writers, cinematographers, sound editors, sound mixers, and makeup artists and hairstylists -- whose members will also be turning in their Oscar ballots this week. Their decisions should help you, not only to determine who'll win the prizes in the more obscure corners of your Oscar pool ballot, but also which movies have broad enough support to win the more coveted prizes.
What did we learn from this weekend's guild awards?
Well, the Writers Guild of America gave its original screenplay prize to "The Grand Budapest Hotel" and its adapted screenplay prize to "The Imitation Game.

The Deadites are returning in full force next year with the arrival of small screen sequel, Ash Vs. Evil Dead. Based upon the Evil Dead film franchise, creator and director Sam Raimi will be back at the helm to lens the pilot, and he’ll be bringing along long-time Dead producer, Robert Tapert. Of course, no Evil Dead series would be complete without the man leading the charge, and so, rounding out the franchise talent coming back for Starz’ ten-episode half-hour show is Mr. Boomstick himself, Bruce Campbell.
Armed with his wit and charm, Ash will be embarking on a new battle against the Deadites. Thus far, we’ve had little else to go on in terms of story, but thanks to an EW interview with Campbell, a slew of juicy details have come to light.

After the debacle of last week's "1980s" hits, The X Factor is playing a little closer to the rules for Movies Week.
According to the song list from our friends at ITV, all of these songs have been in the films. And they're more or less right.
We still inevitably have a few quibbles. Yes, it's on the soundtrack, but why opt for the Demi Lovato version of 'Let It Go' from Frozen's closing credits, rather than the proper Idina Menzel take from the film itself?
If you're going to attribute 'Try A Little Tenderness' to Otis Redding, then choose John Hughes classic Pretty in Pink as your movie, where Duckie famously lip-synched to the radical soul reworking of Jimmy Campbell, Reg Connelly and Harry M Woods's jazzy standard.
On The Commitments, it was the cast themselves who implored us to squeeze her, don't tease her, never leave her.

With Halloween right around the corner, we're counting down the days by posting five fun or freaky facts about our favorite fright flicks. Today's featured film is "The Exorcist."1. The film is considered cursed. Ellen Burstyn was permanently injured during filming, stars Jack MacGowran and Vasiliki Maliaros both died before the movie was even released and a fire destroyed most of the set. A film-goer seeing the movie also broke his jaw after fainting ... and sued Warner Bros., claiming the flick made him pass out.2. While everyone knows Regan's vomit is made from pea soup, did you know it's specifically Andersen's brand? The filmmakers reportedly tried using Campbell's but didn't like how it looked.3. The flick was the first horror movie to be nominated for a Best Picture Academy Award. It lost to "The Sting," but won Best Adapted Screenplay. Since then, "Silence of the Lambs" is the only...
