Trivia

In 1996 while rehearsing a skit for The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. Lucy Lawless fractured her pelvis when she was thrown clear from her horse. As a result, several episodes of Season 2 had to be edited to accommodate her recovery: some of them were changed so Lucy could have a very slight appearance (in one episode she only appear as archive footage), and they created some brand new episodes. BETTER NOW THAN IT HAS EVER BEEN.
4 October 1999 | by (CARDIFF,WALES) – See all my reviews

First things first. This titan amongst TV shows is not deteriorating! Far from it,it is better now than it has ever been.Along with its parent show "HERCULES:THE LEGENDARY JOURNEYS","XENA" is the greatest TV series ever made,I suppose really it is the better show but it is tough to choose between them when "HERCULES" is firing on all cylinders.I am quite sure that what sniffy critics out there probably realise but would never ever admit is that Lucy Lawless and Renee O'Connor in the confines of a genre TV show are playing the most interesting and difficult to portray female characters in film or television history. This is not the feeling of a sad fan,I defy anyone to name an actress, past or present who could do similar justice to either of these demanding roles.Lucy and Renee can have you cheering from your seat at the audacity of their fighting sequences in one scene and have you crying or laughing out loud in the next. The fact that they can still pull this off week after week as they approach their 100th episode(at the time of writing)is nothing short of amazing. The fight scenes are the greatest ever seen on the small screen and are the best I have witnessed since the days of Bruce Lee;the fact that they are contained within superbly acted, written and produced drama make them on occasion better than Lee's.If you have only seen the occasional, isolated episode of "XENA",you will think that what I have written her is arrant nonsense;however,if like me you have seen and own every so far broadcast episode of this majestic show you must agree that,if anything, that what I have written above is understatement and cannot begin to describe the wealth of pleasures that "XENA" brings with each passing season. This series will be remembered long after Buffy has slain her last vampire.
