Unique Turkish drama that deals with mental illness and it's effect on their family members.
cgvsluis3 August 2023
My husband and I have been big fans of Çagatay Ulusoy since his performance in the 2016-2017 Turkish series Içerde (Insider). The Terzi series just solidified for us what an amazing actor he is. He plays Peyami, who is a tailor by trade and is wearing his cards very close to his chest...juggling multiple secrets while trying to help keep his childhood friend-business partner in check. His best friend is Dimitri who is on the verge of his wedding to Esvet and has had Peyami make her wedding dress without ever actually seeing her. Peyami's grandfather passes away and in moves his grandmother with his mentally ill father Mustafa, who he has tried to keep from both the public and his best friend. To help him wrangle work, his best friend, and at least one of his secrets is Suzi, his right hand and office manager. This strong and hardworking character is played by the lovely Ece Sükan.

This is the first time I have seen mental illness portrayed in a Turkish series. First, I want to mention what an amazing job Olgun Simsek is doing portraying the mentally ill character of Mustafa, who had meningitis in his youth and has been kept perpetually young mentally ever since. His son Peyami has been ashamed of his father and asked his grandfather to help hide him away. It is interesting to watch Peyami's struggling with both loving his father and being ashamed. Additionally he has had a secret search going for his biological mother who has not been in his life.

This isn't the only mental illness in the series...Esvet, is adopted by a couple who have a mentally ill son who needs to be taken care of and Dimitri himself seems to suffer from some kind of psychosis that causes violent irrational outbreaks and results in cruel behavior...while at the same time he seems to have an affinity for the innocent animals and child like mentally ill.

My favorite character was Cemre, who was a bit of a surprise in season two. Initially, I thought she was going to be destructive and cause nothing but problems...but she seems to walk this interesting and supportive line that surprised me.

I am writing this review in between the second and third season...and I have to say the third season has a lot to wrap up. Season one ends in a cliffhanger that makes you concerned for a beloved character's life and season two has a beautiful reunion ending.

Really well acted, gorgeous Turkish sets, beautiful musical score, whirling Sufi Dervishes, and a unique story built around family/mental illness make this drama a worth watching series.

My review is based on watching this series in the original Turkish language with English subtitles.

The script simplified the story.
mekselinaboat-1401017 May 2023
The script simplified the story. I can't say that it was successful due to very long unnecessary scenes and insufficient character depictions. It's not too bad to watch though. It's not a waste of time either. Because the story is good. The acting of Olgun Simsek, Celile Toyon and especially Salih Bademci are impressive. If you want to watch. Do it . If you don't, you'll miss the good story. As you watch the series, you will continue to wonder where the story will lead. I hope it will take place in Turkish TV series. As a result, you should not don't give up easily. As I mentioned before, it's definitely not a waste of time.

No heroes no villains, just an objective tale about human nature.
MillennialO712 November 2023
I'll admit that I really have to be in a particular type of mood to endure a Netflix Turkiye production, but every once in a while they put out something that leaves an impact quite unique from western productions.

To the seasoned critique, it will come across cheesy and basic, leaving them bored and tuning out a few episodes in. It almost happended to me but as I said, on this occasion I was in a particular mood to not watch with my mind but rather my heart. I think the why 'Dizis' (Turkish serials) appeal to a certain audience is that they apply life lessons most of us can relate to. While undoubetby far more entertaining to watch, I can't relate to Alien Covenant, Interstellar, the Irishman etc.

The Taylor started slow, and during the first few episodes I got distracted and lost focus. My first impression of Dimitri was that of a cheap suit; a loud horny obnoxious guy with a cross tattoo on his forearm. It came across a bit tacky and cringe, so I was immediately put off. The disabled father had zero emotional effect on me; probably the exact opposite of what was intended (too soon for ott emotion!!!). And the straw that broke the camel's back was the Tony Stark vision thing Peyami did before embarking on his next masterpiece. That made me pause, literally!

Then a few weeks later I gave it another go and boy was I glad I did. As mentioned in my title, to me it was a story about flawed humans doing what they do best. Some reviews claimed a bias towards the portrayal of the Greek character(s). I objectively didn't see. For me, it was an objective story that I thought pretty obvious Dimitri was the most likeable character. Fun, charismatic, flawed, broken, yet incredibly loyal and with compassion. I adored Bademci's Rumeli accent, sounding not too different from bilingual (Greek and Turkish speaking) Northern Cypriots.

Perhaps due to my first wife being Greek, and my best friend since the age of 11 being Greek (myself being Turkish), seeing a Greek family and community of Istanbul (my father's home city) really spiked my interest, but that's not the reason I enjoyed it so much. Just binge watched the lot over the weekennd, on the final 2 episodes of season 3...let's see what happens.

If you are going to watch it, watch it with your heart and not your mind. If that makes sense to you, you'll probably enjoy it. Be warned it does start off slow, and it will require a leap of faith.

I had low expectations...

Warning: Spoilers
The description made the series seem very flat and boring. However, I gave it a shot. Now after finishing it, I have to say, that it really was unexpectetly good!

I know, the plot is not that original and does not make sense sometimes, but not every series hast to be a complete masterpiece. Thats why I would never rate this a 10/10, but anything below a 5 seems rather unfair.

I really liked the dynamic between the protagonist and the antagonist.

(I will now talk about the plot, so there will be Spoilers)

The fact, that Dimitri and Peyami are friends through the whole series makes it so much more interesting! Like, in the end you might think, that their friendship is completely lost, but when Peyami is shot, Dimitri instantly realizes what he has been doing and tries to help his friend.

I also like the fact, that Dimitri is not a typical antagonist. First, there is of course the fact, that he and Peyami are best friends (no "friends to enemies" trope, they really stay friends) and he often reveals some humanity. Of course he stays an asshole, but sometimes he reveals his sorrow to Peyami or just randomly adopts a dog and talks to him. That prevents him from being a boring and one-dimensional character.

Moreover, the inner conflict Peyami has with his father is amazing. You can really understand why he has issues with their relationship, for all his life he has been told that his father was crazy and he was taught to feel ashamed for him.

However, the main plot, the romance, did not really catch me. In comparison to All the other relationships, the one between Peyami and Esvet was kinda boring.

Cheesy Terzi
chikalitu13 March 2024
Warning: Spoilers
First of all, I wasn't consuming narcissistic content after Phi, it had satisfied me, but this series caught my eye and I watched it thinking that I would watch it immediately during the day or two when I was sick, so that my pain would go away while watching cheesy things.

Let me start with the good parts of the series;

First of all, the cast is amazing in terms of roles and acting in terms of script. One factor that makes mediocre scripts still watchable for me is the acting's ability to convey emotions. The tailor was attractive in this sense. I started watching the series without any prior knowledge or ideas about it. At first, the retro feel of the series made me wonder "Is the story set in an old time?" It made me ask, and I understood the time later during a mobile phone conversation. Its nostalgic look determined the style of the series. The digital rendering of tailoring details is also fairly well done. Maybe the feelings of the fabric textures could also be described in those images, after all, for a tailor, not only the angles are important, the stance could also be imaginary, but since I had no expectations, it seemed acceptable. Some scenes were aesthetically pleasing, general lighting and sounds were good, emotions were fluid, and the reflections of emotions (psychological facts) in the scenes were nourishing both spatially and in the actors' clothing or in general atmosphere.

Let me continue with the mostly bad aspects in my opinion;

-Spoilers After-

I think most of the series show exactly what they are and where they are going in the first 3 episodes, so I watch the first three episodes with special attention and if there was no Dimitri character in the series, I don't think I could continue the series. At the very beginning, when I started to imagine the places where the scenario could go in the second episode of this retro-scented series, the critic in me started to search in my mind, "Which old Turkish Movie scenario is this?" Well, almost all of them, my inner voice replied... Rich kids, a poor girl who has no will of her own in life, betrayals of best friends on behalf of someone else, okay, it's full of clichés, and these introductions reveal the very end of the scenario, so you understand now. From here on, the story of the series is clear, so there is no point in starting to watch this series with its story, it is cliché anyway. Now let's see how it is processed and how the flow is achieved. After Episode 3, I continued my reflections. I especially really liked the scenes where the characters go back to their childhood. In terms of the script, the encounter with the wise old person and the lessons learned, the comparisons with the present were conveyed well, and I also found the child actors very successful. Despite this, the flow of the series was officially on the ground. The topics are discussed so superficially that we wonder "where did we get here?" that one can be astonished while watching. They will be perfect lovers, they are not the same right after, they quarreled at one point, they made up at the next moment, someone was irritated fastly, etc. In fact, the Firuze character of the series quickly changes to Esvet, then Mustafa, the crazy character, immediately stops saying "Firu" and starts saying Esvet. The characters had just thought about running away, but now they think about love. The character, who would have killed his girlfriend if he found out that she was cheating on him just yesterday, suddenly turns into a playboy and kills himself. But luckily there is that episode in the series, season 3, episode 7. Since it was like a Batman-Joker encounter, I took my core in my hand and faced it. I love the episodes of TV series where these good-bad-innocent confrontations are brutally made (see: Mr. Robot 407 Proxy Authentication Required episode). I mean, if it wasn't for this confrontation episode, I might not have found this series worth commenting on here, but the villain stood up and laughed, that was nice.

Now if I talk about this episode (which may be the best episode of the series should be reviewed separate)

Here again, we see that the actors play the written script very well, but for some reason we cannot see the details, fine workmanship and aesthetics in the general atmosphere of the series here. (which is the most striking, it makes you wonder why this episode, which will be the climax of the subject, is not taken care of so much compared to the rest of the series). The scenario is nice, it flows, the players enter the lair, they agree to play the game, because they felt guilt, we feel them, there again we witness the submissiveness of the Esvet character, two betrayers start the game against a tyrant. Of course, at the peak of tyranny, the tyrant stages the whole truth about the fact that he came to the point of killing his father, just as his father conveyed to him, by provoking him and punishing him, against the people he considers to be his friends and whom he said he would give his life for. "You're no good," he says, just like he's heard his father say a million times. The cowardly friend is still afraid until the last moment, fear is such a feeling because he cannot give the courage to talk despite the betrayal, but wait a minute. What has the Esvet character faced since the beginning, what has she experienced, she was bought, sold, raped, tortured, humiliated, used, not seen by her loved ones, unwanted, dragged, left insecure, but we cannot see the shadow of this character throughout the series, she is always submissive, always hiding. But they will die there, they will explode in 5 minutes, and she realized in the last 3 minutes that they will really die, she pulled a chair there and sat in front of them, I said huh, finally that shadow that has not appeared for 3 seasons will appear now, because the girl will die, she will die, she should be screamed the truth, but it doesn't happen... Ffffs... in fact she answers a question asked to her, she sits and waits for the question, by either shaking her head she answers, this is the feeling that comes out of her in panic before she dies, it is unbelievable.... So this is impossible, at least if that episode is special for Villain vs. Mr. Dokumaci, at least we could see something about the shadow of Esvet's character in the last episode, a rebellion of her soul, an awakening or... whatever, but the character's truth has been officially killed, her story is connected to the scene where she cooks eggs in the kitchen with her wealth after that nod... This shouldn't have happened, the character was wasted. These are the bad sides in such cheesy series. None of those characters existed in vain, and if creating a sense of completion in the audience is important for the viewing pleasure, attention should be paid to their "attachments" as well as the processing of emotions of their truths. The reality of Esvet's character is a lie, that is, she is too much of a character in the series to be real, so the ending of the series ends with a quality similar to the cliché of the script. Oh, and Dimitri is 100% preparing a death scene for himself, he even brought an imitation of the painting of the Last Supper of Jesus there. I expected to see very scary designs on the models there. You know, while waiting for Peyami, there was a dress he had made out of boredom from the tulle lying around, and I would imagine her dressing the models, whom he referred to as "silent spectators, witnesses" at his last dinner, with that class of quality. And the most striking episode of a TV series called "Tailor", there should be real crazy designs. We were able to see wedding dresses and groom's suits, that artistry... But it wasn't there in that episode.

In other words, the series has achieved very little that could be described as "just right". It's a series shot to keep the actors fed for their lives.

Ridiculous
redemcisue5 May 2023
I am surprised to see such positive reviews for this TV show, as it appears to be a complete disaster in every aspect. Upon checking some of the reviewers, I noticed that they are all new members with no other reviews posted. This leads me to wonder if the marketing department may have fabricated these reviews. The screenplay is subpar, the storyline is predictable, and the characters are overly simplistic, almost caricature-like. The behavior and decisions of the main character, Esvet, are illogical and confusing. I strongly advise against watching this show unless you enjoy feeling embarrassed for others and wasting your time.

Second season explosive
narcisapojar28 July 2023
Second Season very intense from start to finish. Great Teamwork and the actors managed very well to keep the thin thread of the story without to danger of breaking. The music was also great and provided the fair amount of suspense to each episode. Congratulations to the whole Terzi (The Tailor) Team, actors,Director but especially to Cagatay Ulusoy, the actor who no longer acts but becomes a character himself. The emotions and feelings experienced by this actor also transmitted them to us viewers. A performance worthy of all respect. Cagatay Ulusoy today overtook himself once again and managed to fly higher and higher. Chapeau Cagatay 👏👏👏

Promises promises....
esevite5 May 2023
It's plain bad. The plot is ridiculous, predictable and farfetched. While watching it I had the feeling I was watching a Sunday afternoon TV movie, the kind you warch after lunch and fall asleep. It starts with the right foot but quickly drifts into the tipical Turkish series. At least this one does not have the endless silences in moments of tension which is really appreciated, still, is the same old story. The good guy, the bad guy and the girl, cliché drama here and there. All seen before. There are really good Turkish films and series but unfortunatelly this is not one of them It promises a lot but it's simply another round of mill Turkish series. Tried and failed to be another Panthom thread.....it could have been.:

perfect real story
aelmansjos2 August 2023
We saw Series 1 on Dutch Netflix in 2023. This was very exciting and very well acted by the protagonists. At the end of the last episode, the expectation was raised that a sequel was coming. We could therefore hopefully look forward to a sequel. At the end of July '23 we could then eagerly look forward to series 2. Especially the role of Mustafa is so good and pure. This story shows you how 2 families deal with success and how they have dealt with parenting in their family where clearly a black sheep has to suffer. The last episode was very pure and emotional where in the end a family is brought back together in good harmony. It was a happy ending and another chapeau for the makers of Yapimci. They have again achieved another great success on their rating.

Terrible, Just terrible.
mortemeh4 May 2023
When I first heard that Netflix was coming to Turkey and would be producing local content, I was really excited. However, now that I have seen some of the shows they have produced, I must say that they are even worse than some of the mediocre TV series that are currently airing in Turkey.

It is disappointing to see that despite having access to some of the most talented actors, writers, and directors in the country, Netflix is failing to produce content that is both engaging and of high quality. Instead, they seem to be focusing on churning out formulaic shows that lack originality and depth.

Where to start....
linda-plant231 March 2024
Who thought that one long affair could be stretched out over 3 series ? I wanted to stop watching after half way through season 1 but like a car crash, you can't stop looking.

I was confused as to whether it was a Muslim or Christian series, but it was unimportant as it turned out.

I didn't warm to the actress playing Esvet. She had one expression which only changed with a few tears. A hint of a smile only happened in the last episode. The script also had her turning up when she shouldn't have - all the time, which was irritating to the story. Pueramy was a good character but throughout, there was lots of "filler" long pauses of "looks' with piano background playing., so I did a lot of fast forwarding.

The actor playing Mustafa was beyond excellent, but he underwent a seismic change in a short time. One minute needing to be spoon fed to wearing a tuxedo and having grow up conversations !

My favourite was Dimitri, the actor had the best part playing a manic with a range of emotions BUT he had the most wonderful wardrobe of spectacles and shaded sunglasses ! By the end I missed his perfect teeth and had serious glasses envy !

Season 3 A BIG Disappointment!!!
anxhelabajramix24 November 2023
Warning: Spoilers
So I started season 1 when the second had just been released and watched them together. I liked the story overall even though in general the show looks a bit "pale" relating to the vibe turkish shows usually transmit. Anyway I think the second season was good and elevated the show overall, audience reception reflected that, the show was on top 10 of more than 30/40 countries for days. In the last episode of 2nd season, a fast sequence containing events from 3rd season was shown, I got very exicted and was waiting impatently for the next season. It was released sooner that I thought and watched it immediately, all episodes in one day, they were quite short. I could make a list of things I didn't like but just going to describe them shorty.

First of all, the thing that disturbed me a lot was how did the movement to USA of Esvet and Dimitry occupy 3/4 of this season's episodes. I mean till the end of 6th episode: especially Dimitry the time was repeating sequence after sequence how he was about to move to USA with "his dear wife".

Secondly, the reason they canceled the trip to USA was so pathetic and cheap. Because Mustafa and Kiraz decided to get married at the very last minute! How funny! Dimitry had in his mind 24/7 the idea and fear that Esvet and Peyami could be together and finally when he was about to leave once and for all, just for Mustafa he cancels his plans. What a joke! Like he cared that much for Mustafa. The scriptwriters should have found a better reason for them not going to USA.

Another thing disturbing me was how bas was Peyami's character written. We know he had a special bond with Dimitry but damn he got crazy when though Esvet was leaving and yet he didn't do nothing to stop her, in the entire show not only this season we didn't see him do something significant for his love for Esvet! Like he says in every episode how much he loves her and I know his character is like this but logically his love for Esvet should have changed him and make him more curagious to confront Dimitry but no! He's the same coward from the beginning till the end of the show. His and Esvet's love in all 3 seasons was described as a love at first sight, a strong love that can survive everything but we didn't end up watching concretely this great love, we don't have a scene which can demostrate it.

The final scene between the 3 of them was elevated only by the acting of Salih Bademci, I must say he has hold the entire show in his shoulders. Very dissapointed how Çagatay accepted to play a role where the characters doesn't develop at all. The last scene with Dmitry was so bad for Peyami and Çagatay as an actor because if written better he could have given us a strong and memorable scene of his acting skills. The whole thing was concentrated in Dmitry as if Peyami wasn't the main character. Also Peyami couldn't express his love for Esvet to Dmitry because he didn't want to make his best friend, brother feel bad, he also helped him on covering him murdering his father but when Dmitry sacrifices himself, Peyami continues peacefully his life with Esvet without having any regret or suffering for his friend he used to say he loved that much.

Except the scene of them 3 in the end of season 1 and that on the 3rd season, this show lacks on giving us exicting or memorable scenes. Maybe this comes from the weak character of Peyami or because they didn't have enough imagination to write better scenes, I don't really know.

Two main topics: Esvet's real identity and Peyami's mother other family were revelead so quickly in the end, it gave the idea they were in a rush to end the season.

In the end, I can say the show could have been way better treated in its entirety. There should have been more scenes between Esvet and Peyami, which would have developed their relationship, in all 3 seasons we didn't see their relationship develop, especially in second season they barely had any scene together and then from nowhere in season 3 Peyami expresses his devastion for mot forgetting Esvet. Also instead of dealing with Esvet and Dimitry's move to USA they could have focused the show more on Esvet revealing her real origins, or Peyami and Dmitry's rivalry for Esvet to increase the tension. The end, showing Dmitry alive, was meh. I mean what can another season add to the general show? When we didn't have a decent climax in three season, do they think we'll get it after this poor scripted season? They tried to give us Ask-i Memnu vibes but failed pathetically. This show was written as a regular turkish show, transmitted in tv with 20 - 30 episodes, 2-2:30 hours each. I think if they had continued like that the show would have been developed way better than in Netflix.

Could Have Spent More Time :)
buraktr-6164811 June 2023
It would have been better if Tailor was a television series. Each episode had something left unfinished. Vitality was lacking. There was no depiction of the characters. There were only events but little emotion. I didn't really feel close to any of the characters, and I couldn't really get to know any of them. It was ostensibly a soap opera, but it lacked everything a soap opera should have.

Actually, when I watched the first episode, I didn't realize how time passed. I had high expectations for this drama in the first episode. But from the end of the first episode, the gaps started to open, never to be closed. It's like Netflix said that I'm giving you this amount of time, you shoot the series during this time, if you can't shoot it, I don't accept the series. :D I'd assume that.

It could have been better and in a very comfortable way.

What happened to the other half - here it comes
geewhiz465 May 2023
Peyami is a tailor who does secret gigs with a band backing Dervish performers. He grows up with Dimitri - a psychopath from the word go. He doesn't seem to mind that his best friend is certifiable.

Long story short - Dimitri is to be married to Evnet but he treats her appallingly and she runs away and ends up in Peyami's house where she is hired as a carer to his mentally disabled relative - this is a wildly over the top performance that is hard to watch.

The plot progresses with Dimitri's attempts to find her.

Evnet does such stupid things to further the plot that it loses all credibility pretty early on. Things are not explained and the editing is awful. When this car crash of a series ends - nothing is resolved and many many story arcs are left in limbo. It's as if the writer couldn't figure out how to tie it all up plausibly so simply stopped writing.

The reviews are likely written by staff writers because they rarely reflect the truth of the series they review.

Up to and including series three.

Here we go again - Peyami and Evnet meet again after Peyami has travelled the world with his wonderful designs. These include a strappy high heel with a bunch of pink chicken feathers sprouting out of the back. He intends to make matching dresses and purses to go with them. So funny - the Turkish idea of fashion - it doesn't come to fruition thank goodness.

This section is taken up with the lovers succumbing to temptation and the dire results thereof.

The ending is absolutely predictable.

Riveting Cliffhangers and Mostly Wholesome
nataliewelcome28 July 2023
Great show! Built on drama and plot. Clean (except 1 brief encounter). A bit of bad language that is appropriate for the villain. Otherwise a wholesome show, and each episode ends with an interesting cliffhanger!

Episode 1 had me scratching my head in the first half. There was a 5-second racy clip that came out of nowhere and could have been omitted. Then, the story started coming together and was easy to follow. The rest of season 1 was woven together quite well.

The actors remain true to their characters throughout. This is one of those shows where you, at times, even like the villain. I loved and abhorred nearly every character at some point.

Beautiful sets, scenery, music, cinematography, costumes, etc.

I'd planned to watch one episode, and ended up binging the 1st season in one night.

Mindless, Silly and Distasteful at the Same Time
Linda-7378219 May 2023
How did this show get to production and to the public? I'm jaw dropped seeing any positive reviews at all. Characters are so poorly developed. I gave up after the 3rd episode. Such empty drivel and fake false posing. The poorest and most shamefully written character is the dad Mustafa. Having worked 25 plus years with people with cognitive and physical disabilities they should have consulted a specialist. Instead they created an exaggerated cartoon character. Regardless the plot has galaxy sized holes in the outrageously lame story. I will say the cane stomping Grandma is great in a 1960s sitcom kind of way.

I can tell you that it is a masterpiece. Because they mix important topics. For example, friendship, power, desire. The perfect family breaks it and shows actors who are very difficult to see on the screen. Being a fashion series, I would have liked to see more art and fashion shows, well, in the end, that's what the cover conveys. But in general terms the plot is good. The plot of the protagonist with the father is impressive since it opens doors to other people who may be going through a similar situation, it reveals what it is to live and the process of having a family member with this condition. The message it leaves is very good.

Don't waste your time! this is awful
denisafesteu7 May 2023
Warning: Spoilers
JESUS! This is so bad, bad is not enough to describe it! The main character Esvet, jesusss she's so annoying, she can't mind her own business for a second. I don't understand how this movie has good reviews.. i wasted my time hoping this will get better but it just got worse. The plot is so bad, like she is chased in the center of the city by 3 men and nobody is doing anything.. she's basically being kidnapped.. and then forced to marry someone who is beating her.. she could just have said no at the church. DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME PEOPLE!! The idea of the series is not that bad... but how it turned out is just awful.

SKIP, before your last brain cells die
anniehuynh-531959 May 2023
Warning: Spoilers
The series started off fine, but within the first 2 episodes, a story of such complexity and plot holes developed, even the Riemann Problem would be a breeze to solve.

Forget a senseless story and a cliffhanger to leave the audience crave for more. In the end, I felt confused that basically no story arc was resolved at all but rather all sticky story ends were just juggled together to create a brick of what the heck. I also felt angry that I had to fast forward about 50% of the series in order to save my last brain cells from harakiri and I felt sorry for all who thought they would watch something a La Halston, but instead were given Twilight.

Terzi is a series that you cannot stop watching. You will see it with an open mind to understand it and fill yourself with emotions. It's from the same real life!!!!
carmenyanita15 August 2023
Terzi is a series that you must see. It is intense, it excites you, it makes you think. The performance of all its actors is excellent but there is a superlative that is that of its protagonist: CagatayUlusoy/ Peyami!!! He has sewn Peyami's skin from him. There are scenes where he doesn't need to speak, just look at his face, his eyes, his gestures to understand and feel what the character is feeling. You come to wonder if it is really just the character or the true CagatayUlusoy especially when he dances, (an ancient Turkish dance, which follows sophism), where he will align spirit, body, mind. You feel it in yourself, it is an energy that flows from the screen. You must watch this series with spirit and open mind. You will see a brilliant CagatayUlusoy!!!!

Abuse is not entertainment
hilarycantor1 July 2023
I rarely comment but I'm surprised no one mentioned the horrific domestic abuse suffered by Mustafa and Esvet. I usually enjoy these torrid Middle Eastern soap opera dramas, this has an interesting story and a terrific location so I hoped for some escapism . The abuse heaped on Mustafa by his mother was disturbing, it kept me awake, there was no need to indulge in such violence and as much as I wanted to continue with the story the thought of witnessing further abuse and enjoying watching it was too much. After 1.5 episodes I had to back out.

I mostly watch world cinema and this came up an 98% match to my profile but this one got thumbs down. Hope their AI can identify that watching abuse on defenceless people is abhorrent to me.

Are those giving it 10 from a troll farm?

Binge watching
jaimeteague-697792 August 2023
This drama series addresses pain, love, abandonment, and temptation. It describes the difficulties with arranged marriages. The storyline is not far-fetched made-up pieces. It tells the tale of a woman being mistreated and hurting deeply about the man she is forbidden to have.

This also tackles the issue of being a caregiver to a family member. The story portrays the decline of two affluent men who share a close friendship.

This show is definitely worth binge-watching! It's filled with juicy gossip and anticipation surrounding two best friends who are both obsessed with the same girl. The show also features the challenges of family burdens and the unveiling of painful secrets.

7 hours of absolutely nothing
aliceisangry9 May 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I am at a loss for words after spending almost 7 hours watching this series. I had to make an account after reading the majority of these reviews that lack any sense of honesty. To preface my review, I went into this with an open mind, looking forward to watching another Turkish Netflix series. I really enjoyed the thought provoking originality of Midnight at the Pera Palace and so I had high expectations.

This series is not one that you can put on in the background and relax after a long day at work, it is one that requires constant attention and is mentally draining from all the mental leaps that you will have to do with this poorly executed plotline. I would not recommend this series to anyone, unless they were a masochist.

While the 7 episodes were less than an hour a piece, they dragged on and on. It didn't help that as a viewer you were not able to skip the more boring parts, as you would miss some obscure information that relates to the intricate relationships between the charcters.

The writers were trying to do so much with this series, inserting all these confusing side stories that added absolutely nothing to the main plotline. Sometimes simplicity is better, especially when the main plot was already enough to hold the viewer's attention. Instead, it was just a mess of plot holes and information overload jammed into 7 short episodes that lacked any sense of cohesiveness.

The over dramatization of characters made me uneasy and were often borderline offensive. The representation of Mustafa, "the Mad Master," specifically was beyond distasteful. I have never felt so uncomfortable watching something before.

There was absolutely no character development or dimensionality in this series. The only slight development is within the final 7 minutes of the series. The characters started and ended the exact same way (except Peyami r.i.p.) and to the viewer it was incredibly superficial and bland despite the intricate and dramatic plot line that was supposed to be occuring.

The main male protagonist, Peyami, was like a statue the entire series, giving absolutely nothing to the viewer. While they attempted to portray the vulnerability of his character through flashbacks of his childhood trauma and his "panic attacks," it did not resonate with the viewer. He was incredibly passive, saying absolutely nothing when his "blood brother/best friend" Dimitri behaved like a complete psychopath.

As for the main female protagonist, Esvet, I can't help but wonder what was the point of her character except for her mere existance for the plot line. She had zero personality and was overall a pitiful character. The only redeeming quality was how she was the only character to treat Mustafa with kindness and sincerity.

The "romance" between Esvet and Peyami was so bland and random. Normally a relationship builds over an entire series, but not with this series. I could count the number of times Esvet and Peyami interacted on my fingers before they kiss out of nowhere within the last few episodes. There was zero chemistry or connection between their charcters and it was painful to watch.

The main antagonist (or I guess one of the antagonists since every character was morally grey) Dimitri acted like an immature spoiled little brat. I have yet to understand what made him snap, and why he treated Esvet the way he did. When he found that dog in the park after he was kicked out of his parents house I fully expected him to harm it due to the manifestation of his anger.

As I finish this series I am left with so many questions that are crucial to the impact of the plot. I am left confused, tired, and drained.

1. Why did Peyami remain friends with Dimtri despite Dimitri's behavior constantly creating issues for Peyami? The first episode starts with Dimtri screwing one of Peyami's models and ripping her dress, almost ruining Peyami's fashion show and he says nothing about it. In one of the flashbacks when Dimitri's father gifted the foal to Peyami, Dimitri basically kills the foal out of jealousy by separating it from its mother and setting it free instead of allowing Peyami to have the horse. Why would someone keep such a toxic and selfish person in their life?

2. Was Mustafa born with the condition he had or was there an accident that resulted in his mental impairment? Also why was his family so cruel to him for no reason? He couldn't help having his condition and yet it seemed they resented and were embarrassed by him, especially his mother.

3. What happened to Esvet after she was adopted? There was a brief flashback of her adoptive parents telling her that she was to take care of their disabled son after she was adopted. What happened to their son? Is this not important to the plot line of her taking care of Mustafa?

4. Why was Dimitri so obsessed with Esvet? In one of the final episodes he tells Peyami that Esvet had been to "the ranch" before and loved it. Did they spend time together growing up as Esvet's adoptive mother was Dimitri's mother's sister? Did he always act the way he did in the series? When was their marriage arranged? What happened before the first episode between them?

5. When did Dimitri's parents know Esvet was their child they left at the orphanage? Did Esvet's adoptive parents know?

6. Did Esvet actually marry Mustafa? Did anyone else ever find out this information except Peyami's grandmother? I feel like this information was just brushed over after they got married. Is this not a loophole from escaping from her engagement with Dimitri as she is already married?

Waste of time and reviews here are deceptive
Aysedee25 July 2023
Native Turkish and English speaking here so I have been exposed to Turkish series and although most are intolerable some are really good.

This is definitely intolerable. When I saw second season, I thought maybe it was worth the watch but nope just pure rubbish.

Managed to get to episode 4. Mostly fast forwarded and played on speed 1.5..

It's such a cliche soap - like sickeningly cliche soap..

Dimitri is psychotic Peyami is a good guy who yells at everyone and has psychotic episodes.

Ari - stays quiet and then goes off after 10 mins of Dimitri trying to strangle Faruk - his uncle/father in law to be.

Faruk - Esvets father is passive like worse than a floor mat.

Esvet is abused and eveyrone turns a blind eye, its just frustrating to watch

There is no complexity to the characters, no layers. I don't even know how they got actors to audition with this poor quality of story.

Like a million cliche soaps all put in one

I never leave reviews, but this one really begged for one. It's thay bad.
