World Series Snags Most Viewers in 5 Years

6 November 2009 12:20 PM, PST | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

This year’s World Series battle between the valiant Philadelphia Phillies and the evil empire of the New York Yankees (oh, did I mention I’m from the Philadelphia area?) drew an average 19.4 million viewers and a 6.2 Nielsen rating, according to THR.

Remember the muttering about how the country wanted an La/NY World Series?  Didn’t seem to keep people from tuning in anyway.

That 6.2 rating is the largest single-year ratings increase in the history of the World Series.  The obvious change came in the form of the Yankees making to the series – although I’d like to think some of that boost was due to Philly’s Chase Utley turning in one of the greatest World Series performances in the history of the sport.  Wednesday’s game 6 (the last in the series) averaged 22.3 million viewers and a 7.4 rating among adults 18-49, up 41% in the demographic from 2008.

Keeping Up with the Kardashians: Kim Cast in 'CSI: NY' with Vanessa Minnillo

5 November 2009 11:30 PM, PST | buddytv.com | See recent BuddyTV news »

Definitely adding a bit of spice to her life and veering away from her reality TV roots, Kim Kardashian has landed yet another acting gig.  The star of E!'s Keeping Up with the Kardashians will reportedly be appearing on an upcoming episode of the series CSI: NY.  And, of course, this spells murder.  Onscreen anyway.

She'll be guest-starring alongside actress Vanessa Minnillo, but this won't be the first time the two have worked together.  They both had roles in the 2008 flick Disaster Movie.  Joining the ladies on the series episode are Lala Vasquez and the band Train, which makes for quite a star-studded installment of the show.

21.15 Million Watch Final World Series Game

5 November 2009 4:04 PM, PST | Studio Briefing - TV News | See recent Studio Briefing - TV News news »

The New York Yankees' 27th World Series victory was watched by an average of 21.15 million viewers on Fox Wednesday night -- nearly as many as tuned in to the other three networks combined. During the 8:30 p.m. half hour, 23.63 million were watching, according to Nielsen Research. Despite the strong ratings, CBS drew decent numbers throughout the night, with Criminal Minds attracting 11.98 million viewers and CSI: NY, 11,64 million. The Jay Leno Show once again pulled in the fewest number of viewers of any network TV show Wednesday with just 4.73 million. Meanwhile, Fox News's Sean Hannity and MSNBC's Keith Olbermann each ditched their live telecasts Wednesday night and headed out to Yankee Stadium instead. Olbermann posted a (very blurry) picture of his cross-town rival, who was seated next to him during the game. The photo was captioned: "And lastly, a reminder that baseball does erase boundaries. CBS Orders More Episodes for 11 Shows; Will the Others be Cancelled?

5 November 2009 3:05 PM, PST | TVSeriesFinale.com | See recent TVSeriesFinale news »

CBS is having such a good year that they're increasing their episode orders for some of their most popular shows, according to EW. The orders total 13.5 more hours of programming. In terms of total airtime, that's the equivalent to ordering a whole new series.

This could mean a few less reruns for viewers... or that the network will be able to dump struggling shows even sooner.

CSI: Miami, How I Met Your Mother, NCIS, NCIS: Los Angeles, and Two and a Half Men have all been given orders for two additional episodes each.

The Big Bang Theory, Criminal Minds, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, CSI: NY, The Good Wife, and The Mentalist have each been given one more installment.

What about the rest? Are they in danger of being cancelled? Unless their ratings improve, many of them »

Ratings: Yankees' World Series Clincher Scores for Fox

5 November 2009 2:59 PM, PST | TVGuide - Breaking News | See recent TVGuide - Breaking News news »

The New York Yankees' World Series clincher against the Philadelphia Phillies led Fox to a Wednesday night prime-time ratings win, according to early Nielsen estimates.

Game 6 coverage averaged 22.3 million viewers and pulled a 7.4 rating among 18-to-49-year-olds, the best numbers for any World Series game since 2004 when the Boston Red Sox ended their 86-year Series drought.

Among the non-sports offerings, CBS cleaned up, but all the network's shows were off their usual marks. Criminal Minds had the most viewers on the night (12 million), followed by CSI: NY (11. 6 million). The New Adventures of Old Christine (7 million viewers) and Gary Unmarried (6.7 million) both outperformed ABC's comedy counterparts ...

Because their co-starring roles in Disaster Movie went so well...

Kim Kardashian and Vanessa Minnillo will be paired up again on an upcoming episode of CSI: NY.

"The ladies play two women who've managed to concoct a very interesting scheme that ends in murder," producer Pam Veasey says of the December 16 installment.

Kardashian and Minnillo will be joined on the episode by MTV veejay Lala Vasquez, as well as the band Train, in one of the more random casting notes of all-time.

"I am so excited to be working with Vanessa again," Kardashian told People magazine. "I am fascinated by crime scene investigating. I swear, I wish I was a crime scene investigator sometimes!"

CBS Orders More Episodes of Hit Shows, Numbers the Days of Numb3rs

5 November 2009 5:33 AM, PST | TVfanatic | See recent TVfanatic news »

It lasted quite a long time for a show with a ridiculously-spelled name, but Numb3rs is nearing cancellation.

CBS has cut the episode order for this drama from 22 to 16 this season, a clear sign it won't be around in the fall of 2010.

That's bad news for fans of the show, but they can take comfort if they watch other hit CBS programs.

The network has increased the episode orders of How I Met Your Mother, NCIS, NCIS: Los Angeles, CSI: Miami, and Two and a Half Men from 22 to 24; it's also requested an additional episode of the following shows:

Criminal Minds CSI: NY The Big Bang Theory The Good Wife CSI The Mentalist »
