The Jesus & Mary Chain have announced a new live album titled Sunset 666, out August 4th via Fuzz Club. Recorded in 2018 while the band was opening for Nine Inch Nails in Los Angeles, it includes a version of “Sometimes Always” with former Belle & Sebastian singer Isobel Campbell. Hear that below.
Sunset 666 was recorded during a run of six shows at the Hollywood Palladium and spans the Scottish alt-rockers’ discography from 1985’s Psychocandy through their 2017 comeback album, Damage and Joy. The first 12 tracks capture The Jesus and Mary Chain’s full set from the final date on December 15th, 2018, while the latter five were recorded at the show that took place four days prior.
Besides “Sometimes Always,” Campbell guests on “Black and Blues” as a fill-in for Sky Ferreira. The album will be available in digital, CD, and multiple vinyl formats. Pre-orders are ongoing. Check out the artwork and tracklist below the jump.

The White Lotus has become one of the biggest shows to come out of the pandemic. The show’s creator Mike White has earned Emmy Awards for his work on the show, as have stars like Jennifer Coolidge and Murray Bartlett. But White has a history on screen dating back much further than The White Lotus.

Mike White was an accomplished screenwriter in the 2000s before making the jump to reality TV. In 2009, Mike joined The Amazing Race‘s fourteenth season, competing with his dad, Mel. They won one leg of the race in Romania before being eliminated in Thailand, ending the race in sixth place.

Crafted as a love letter to underground comics and the pursuit of art-making, Owen Kline’s Funny Pages is a fantastically fucked-up coming-of-age story about Robert, a young cartoonist who will go to any lengths to reach success. Ever the dark comedy, Funny Pages was produced by Josh and Benny Safdie, esteemed masters of gonzo discomfort. It should be noted, however, that for all of the laugh-out-loud shocks the film delivers, Kline has created a story that still manages to be genuinely touching and earnest at its core. Infusing central New Jersey with Robert Crumb’s strange overtones, Funny Pages is ultimately about finding one’s artistic voice—and what it takes to be true to that voice. While this is his debut feature, Owen Kline is no stranger to show business. The son of actors Kevin Kline and Phoebe Cates, he broke out as the younger brother in Noah Baumbach...

I first met Michael (that’s what he went by in college, so that’s what I still call him) White in an acting class during our freshman year at Wesleyan. There were two acting classes, and we were in the bad one — the B group, so to speak. Michael was already a little bit famous on campus, having done a scene that made a big splash in No Doze Theater, an all-night theater production that ran during finals. But what stuck out to me was that he wasn’t wearing socks — it was January in Connecticut. He still doesn’t really know how to dress for the winter.

Obviously, it was only a matter of time before The Apprentice tackled board games. Lord Sugar must have been waiting for ages to wheel out his "from board games to the Boardroom" line. Luckily, while this week didn't quite reach the battiness of last week's coach trips - probably a good thing for Karren Brady's sanity - board games turned out to be not very boring at all.

"Keeping it real," as the premiere episode of ABC's new sitcom black-ish, suggests, isn't always easy.
The show stars Anthony Anderson as Dre Johnson, a husband, father of four and successful ad executive trying desperately to help his upper-middle-class family maintain its black culture – despite their overwhelmingly white surroundings.
It's a possibly limiting premise, but thanks to humorous truths embedded in the concept – it's largely based on Anderson's own experience as an African-American father raising kids in a predominantly white environment – this show just might work.

In a small victory, NBC has renewed a freshman comedy. In a predictable defeat, NBC has cancelled a J.J. Abrams-produced drama. Actually, ABC did a lot more than that on Friday (May 9), but you've already seen Sepinwall's stories on the glorious renewal of "Hannibal" and the tragic cancellation of "Community." You can decide if you feel similar elation and dejected about this latest bit of NBC Good News/Bad News: The network has ordered a second season for "About a Boy," but NBC has also confirmed that the second season will be the end of the line for "Revolution." The renewal for "About a Boy" wasn't a shocker. Boosted by "The Voice," the Jason Katims adaptation of the Nick Hornby novel and subsequent film has been NBC's biggest comedy success in several years, even if ratings have been slipping somewhat in recent weeks. As the news broke, there...

Exclusive: Fox has put in development a single-camera comedy to star Saturday Night Live alumna Molly Shannon. The project, written by Bruce McCulloch, centers on Fiona (Shannon) who, at the top of her professional career, clashes with her stay-at-home pregnant daughter. Shannon and McCulloch previously worked together when he directed her in the 1999 movie Superstar, about Shannon’s popular SNL character. The two recently reunited and sold the comedy pitch to Fox. The project was then laid off at 20th Century Fox TV, which will produce with 3 Arts Entertainment. McCullogh serves as showrunner and is executive producing with 3 Arts’ David Miner and Greg Walter, while Shannon serves as producer. Shannon, repped by UTA and Framework Entertainment, received an Emmy nomination this year for her recurring role on Mike White’s HBO series Enlightened. I’m sure if I called Jason Schwartzman a funnyman to his face, he’d have some biting response that would put me in my place. Still any onlookers would laugh, thus reaffirming my decision. What further reaffirms it is the actor’s newest gig. Schwartzman is paying Pawnee a visit as he guest stars on Parks and Recreation.
The Huffington Post had the latest on Schwartzman’s character. He will play one Dennis Lerpiss, owner of the Pawnee VideoDome. What’s a VideoDome? No, it’s not a civic center. Maybe the well-intentioned Leslie Knope can help.

Enlightened Adds SNL Alum Molly Shannon for Season 2
It looks like Amy Jellicoe has gained an ally in her bid to bring down Abaddon.
According to Deadline, Molly Shannon has joined HBO's Enlightened for its second season. She's set to play an executive assistant at the corporation that inadvertently fuels Amy's investigation into Abaddon's shady practices. At the end of Enlightened's first season, Amy (Golden Globe winner Laura Dern) finally grew tired of the endless corporate bureaucracy and discouraging apathy she had encountered since her return to the working world. Her newfound sunny disposition, honed during her retreat, gave way a little bit to Amy's desire for change and feeling of connection to the world at large, with Abaddon's disregard for anything other than its profit margin pushing her to burn it down. Exclusive: Molly Shannon is reuniting with Mike White, signing on for a recurring role on the upcoming second season of White’s HBO series Enlightened. The single-camera comedy stars Laura Dern as Amy, a self-destructive woman who has a spiritual awakening and decides to live an enlightened life, which creates havoc at home and work. In a role written for her by White, Shannon will play Eileen, the loyal executive assistant to the CEO of Abaddonn. In Amy’s mission to blow the whistle on Abaddonn’s corporate malfeasance, Eileen is unwittingly duped into providing damning information about her boss. Eileen also becomes a romantic interest for Tyler, played by White. This marks the third collaboration between Shannon and White. She previously starred in his movie Year Of The Dog and his Fox series Cracking Up. Shannon has an existing relationship with HBO. The Saturday Night Live alumna recently was...

I first began to seriously explore writing as a vocation after what I think of as my red-shirt year of college – or what my collegiate transcript would indicate as my first junior year, essentially. It was 1992, I was 21 years old and I had one of those rare epiphanies young people get that actually become something tangible. I love an actor like Jake Sandvig. He’s a working actor (Easy A, series regular in Twenty Good Years and Cracking Up) but instead of sitting around and waiting for an audition, he chose to do something about it.
He and his friend, Brian Crano, made a film.
Directed by Crano and co-written by both he and Sandvig, the film is a comedy about two immature friends whose lives are completely changed when an abandoned child enters their lives. Starring Sandvig, Jason Ritter, Rebecca Hall and Carrie Preston, it’s a great indie comedy that you should definitely check out when you get a chance.
I talked to Jake at SXSW about writing his first script, casting the movie and nightmare audition stories.
You’re wrote this movie?
Jake Sandvig: Yeah, I co-wrote with the director Brian Crano, good buddy of mine.
How did that happen? Have you ever written a script before?...

Amy Sedaris made an abrupt appearance on The Today Show this morning, only to watch Hoda Kotb and Kathie Lee Gifford explode in a fit of giggles. “You’re ridiculous!” Hoda said, between laughs. Keep it together, Hodes! I do like the part where Hoda and Kathie Lee do synchronized wine-sips, though:
But this wasn’t the only head-scratcher moment on the show this morning! During a segment on politeness, there were the requisite man-on-the-street interviews. One of those men on the street? Was Mad Men’s Michael Gladis. He’s identified only as “customer” at 1:49. Gosh, I miss...

I’ve remarked a couple of times on the site in the past that there’s little to no reference sources online for the first two New York Underground Film Festivals, held in 1994 and 1995. The official Nyuff website has had its archives offline for, I think, over a year now. If you go to their site, they simply direct you to what’s available on the site Archive.org. (And, from my own experience, it’s a safe bet not to assume your stuff will be on Archive.org forever — it can really vanish at any minute.)
At Archive.org, the Nyuff archives only go back to 1996. I don’t know if the fest had a web presence those first two years or not, but whether they were ever there, the optimum point is that they’re not there now and probably never will be. And my own personal assumption...

After being anceled in 2003, Family Guy was luckily able to come back after strong DVD sales for a fourth season. With a lot riding on the season, Seth MacFarlane and company did not disappoint and are of course still on the air.
Season four was the longest in the show's history with the 27 originally airing and the straight-to-dvd release of Stewie Griffin: The Untold Story later airing as part of the fourth season.
We've put together the largest collection of Family Guy quotes from the season. Here are just some of our favorites:
Peter: Everybody, I got bad news - we've been cancelled.
Lois: Oh, no. Peter, how can they do that?
Peter: Well, unfortunately, Lois, there's just no more room on the schedule. We just gotta accept the fact that Fox has to make room for terrific shows like: Dark Angel, Titus, Undeclared, Action, That 80's Show, Wonderfalls, Fastlane,...

HBO is being "Enlightened" by Laura Dern and Mike White.
The pay cable network is developing a single-camera comedy to be written by the "School of Rock" scribe and star Dern as a formerly self-destructive woman who, after having a spiritual awakening, becomes determined to live an enlightened life, creating havoc at home and work.
"There are so many dysfunctional types of characters populating cable television, and she is equally as dysfunctional as any of them," White said, "but her impulse is to get healthy, to make the world a better place even though it creates havoc."
The project stems from Dern's standout performance as Katherine Harris in the 2008 HBO film "Recount," which earned her a Golden Globe Award and Emmy nomination.
HBO approached the actress about a deal. Dern was intrigued but wanted to commit only if she found the right material.

Michael Jackson was "cracking up" under the pressure of his 50 London shows, according to a psychiatrist. The unnamed analyst claims the late pop icon was increasingly erratic ahead of the proposed dates, which were due to start in July and run into 2010, with him veering between "almost manic" excitement before lapsing into silence and staring into space.
According to a source, the psychiatrist - who met with Jackson twice, the second time on June 12, just weeks before his death - said the singer was "clearly not mentally or physically equipped to cope" with the planned comeback.
The source added to Britain's The Sun newspaper: "Michael was always adamant the show must go on - to the point where he was obsessed with the idea he would be 'killed' if he couldn't go on stage."
"He had been backed into a corner and was falling apart under the strain."...

A kerfuffle hit the Internets on Friday, as news that Amazon had remotely wiped thousands of copies of 1984 and Animal Farm from people's Kindle e-readers hit. As with many Internet rumors though, it entirely missed the point.
Independent publisher MobileReference was behind the issue--it had copies of the two George Orwell classics on sale via Amazon's Kindle bookstore for a bargain price of $0.99. But, after several thousand copies had been sold, Amazon discovered that the copyright of the two works was in question, and that MobileReference wasn't authorized to distribute the two texts in the U.S.--despite their copyright having long expired in other countries. So Amazon did what it could--far more than a physical bookstore would do if it found itself in a similar situation--it issued a command to delete the offending copies on its user's devices and refund their money.
And that's what caused the blogs to explode with witty headlines.

Amazon's Kindle may be selling incredibly well and transforming the publishing world, but it looks like some users are finding its build quality lacking. A $5 million class action has just been targeted at Amazon, in fact.
The suit centers on Kindle 2s that were also bought with Amazon's optional $30 protective case. This fastens onto the white plastic body of the Kindle with a set of metal clips. According to the person who filed the suit, Matthew Geise, after only about three months the Kindle he'd bought for his wife began to crack around or underneath the point where these clips squeeze its body. In just two months the cracks grew significantly and then obviously transferred some stress onto the device's internals because the screen corrupted and froze and the entire device stopped working (pictured.)
A quick trawl of Amazon's own Kindle review section shows that the same or similar problems...

While Fired Up! is a teen sex comedy that's mostly got hete-romance on its mind, you can't make a movie set at cheerleading camp without throwing in some gay characters.
Read on to find out more!
You can tell there's a no-holds-barred, R-rated raunchy farce just bursting at Fired Up!'s PG-13 seams, but the new movie still makes a pretty hilarious Oscar weekend alternative to duty-bound attendance at Frost/Nixon or The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. And Fired Up! definitely gets a Spirit Stick for making its queer characters both funny and never the butt of the joke. They include:
John Michael Higgins
The always-brilliant John Michael Higgins as camp leader Coach Keith. While he's ostensibly married to Diora (Molly Sims), he seems way more enthusiastic about seeing the film's leads Nick (Eric Christian Olsen) and Shawn (Nicolas D'Agosto) doing naked cheers with strategically-placed pompons. (The guys wind...

No, it's not Friday the 13th. But it is Halloween, and the 13th season of King of the Hill looks to be its last.
Reports are coming in that the long-running Fox comedy will not return past the 13 episodes currently in production bringing the total to something like 250. King of the Hill, created by Mike Judge and Greg Daniels, has aired on the network since 1997. Although it's not the ratings getter it once was, King stalwarts such as Ain't It Cool News' Hercules tout the series as Fox's greatest comedy. Both Judge and Daniels have moved onto other projects. Judge's newest animated comedy, The Goode Family, launches on ABC midseason, while Daniels is running NBC's smash hit The Office. Judge still supplies the voice for Hank Hill on the series.

It is rare for a failed musical to be given a second chance over thirty years after its unsuccessful debut and turn out, in its new production, to be a rousing success. But, that is exactly what is happening at the York Theatre, where Enter Laughing has not only been given a delectable mounting, but has also gotten great reviews and become a solid hit.
You may have heard of Enter Laughing, but probably not its musical rendition. It debuted back in 1958 as a “semi-autobiographical” novel by Carl Reiner, and was turned into a successful Broadway play, starring Alan Arkin, in 1963.

It's dog days ahead for Molly Shannon. The former Saturday Night Live star is in final negotiations to topline the comedy Year of the Dog for Paramount's new specialty division. The film marks the directorial debut of writer Mike White, whose credits include School of Rock, The Good Girl and Paramount's upcoming Jack Black starrer Nacho Libre. White, who is Black's partner in Black and White Prods., wrote the screenplay for Dog with Shannon in mind. The two met on the short-lived Fox TV series Cracking Up, which Shannon starred in and White created. The story centers on Peggy, a happy-go-lucky secretary who lives alone with her beloved dog Pencil. But when Pencil unexpectedly dies, Peggy embarks on a journey of transformation.

Molly Shannon has inked a rich development deal with 20th Century Fox TV, studio-based Brad Grey TV and Fox Broadcasting Co. Under the one-year pact, said to be close to seven figures, 20th TV, Brad Grey and the network will develop a comedy series project for the Saturday Night Live alumna to star in and produce. The deal reunites Shannon with 20th TV, Brad Grey TV and Fox, the auspices of Mike White's midseason comedy Cracking Up, which starred Shannon. On the big screen, Shannon appears in Mean Girls. She also recently starred in "Good Boy!" which is enjoying a solid run on video and DVD, creating buzz about a possible sequel. Shannon is repped by ICM and manager Steven Levy at Framework Entertainment.
Two and a half hours of American Idol on the schedule kept Fox Broadcasting Co. on top in the adults 18-49 demographic for the week ended March 14. But while Idol stayed hot, it was slow going last week for Fox's midseason premieres, including comedy Cracking Up, Friday reality entry Playing It Straight and drama Wonderfalls. Fox offered up a double-dose of Cracking Up in the post-Idol 9:30 p.m. berth on Tuesday (which featured a special 90-minute edition of Idol) and Wednesday, but the kooky-family comedy had a hard time hanging on to Idol's coattails. Playing it Straight and Wonderfalls did only modest business for Fox on Friday, though both shows did won their time slots in the teen and adults 18-34 demos. For the week, Fox averaged 4.1 rating/12 share in the adults 18-49 demo. NBC, which was handicapped by a high volume of reruns, was a close second for the week at 3.9/11, followed by CBS (3.6/10) and ABC (2.7/7). In total viewers, CBS was No. 1 as usual with an average of 12 million, followed by NBC (10.2 million), Fox (9.5 million), ABC (7.7 million), UPN (3.3 million) and the WB (3.2 million).

Fox's American Idol lapped the field again in primetime Tuesday and provided a turbo-charged launching pad for the network's new sitcom Cracking Up. A 90-minute edition of Idol averaged 24.5 million viewers and 10.7 rating/28 share in the adults 18-49 demographic from 8-9:30 p.m., according to preliminary estimates from Nielsen Media Research. At 9:30 p.m., Cracking Up, starring Molly Shannon and Jason Schwartzman, held on to 11.4 million of those viewers and averaged 5.2/13 in the key demo. The extended edition of Idol creamed the competition, particularly ABC's 9 p.m. tentpole According to Jim (8.6 million, 3.3/8) and NBC's repeats of Scrubs (6.2 million, 2.9/7) from 9-10 p.m.

ABC's Extreme Makeover and Stephen King's Kingdom Hospital showed some spunk on Wednesday, but the night really belonged to Fox's American Idol as it winnowed the pool of contestants down to the final 12. Airing from 8:30-9:30 p.m., Idol brought in 22.2 million viewers and 9.7 rating/26 share in the adults 18-49 demographic, according to preliminary estimates from Nielsen Media Research. Fox was also hot at 8 p.m. with a fresh episode of That '70s Show (11.3 million, 5.5/17). At 9:30 p.m., Fox served up another episode of Cracking Up (9.9 million, 4.4/12) the midseason sitcom that bowed Tuesday. Despite its Idol lead-in advantage, Fox's new comedy was topped in its time slot by the second half-hour of ABC's Extreme Makeover (9.8 million, 4.0/11), which soared from an average of 7.3 million viewers and 2.8/7 in the demo in its first half-hour to 12.3 million, 5.2/14 from 9:30-10 p.m. after Idol got out of the way.

Jason Schwartzman has been tapped to star opposite Molly Shannon and Chris McDonald in Fox Broadcasting Co.'s midseason comedy Cracking Up, from writer-producer Mike White, 20th Century Fox TV and Brad Grey TV. The actor, known for his starring role in 1998's Rushmore, had been in talks for the role for several months, following the network's decision to release Nick D'Agosto, who played Schwartzman's part in the pilot. Sources said the main difficulty in negotiating the deal was accommodating the production schedule for the series to Schwartzman's commitment to star opposite Steve Martin and Claire Danes in the feature Shopgirl, which is slated to begin production shortly.
