On October 24th, The Terror Film Festival Claw Awards took place at the Ethical Society Building on the famous Rittenhouse Square of Philadelphia.

Spielberg Honored by Sound Editors

Steven Spielberg, whose films have led to 10 Academy Awards in the sound categories, has been named recipient of the 2010 Filmmakers Award from the Motion Picture Sound Editors.  

"Steven Spielberg's evolution of the sound experience and collaboration with the sound and music editors has helped to shape new dimensions in sound," said Mpse president Bobbi Banks in a press release announcing the award, which will be given to Spielberg on February 20 at the Westin Bonaventure Hotel in Los Angeles.

Director Races To Complete Scheider's Last Film

Moviemaker Joshua Newton is racing to complete the film that has become Jaws star Roy Scheider's final project, so the actor can be considered for a posthumous Best Actor Oscar.

Scheider was twice nominated for an Academy Award during his life, and Newton is determined to do what he can to make sure his late star lands a third nod.

The director must screen his unfinished movie at least once before Christmas for it to meet consideration deadlines.

Roy Scheider, who earned his nominations for All That Jazz and The French Connection, died after losing his battle with cancer in 2007.

Newton tells the Los Angeles Times he has turned his Beverly Hills home into a 24/7 production house with teams of editors and sound mixers working in shifts to complete the drama, in which Scheider plays a Holocaust survivor and retired cop who travels to Nuremberg to reconcile with his son, and unexpectedly encounters a man he suspects is the the Nazi commander responsible for his family's deaths during World War Two.

The director says, "This is what Roy would have wanted. Battling with cancer, Roy put every ounce of effort into his performance. His performance is magnificent, but obviously it's up to other people to decide that. We are honouring Roy Scheider by putting this up for the academy." »

The folks over at Bloody-Disgusting unearthed some photos from the forthcoming 3-D remake of Piranha, while at the American Film Market. The images give us our first look at cast member Richard Dreyfuss. 'Paranormal Activity' Director Oren Peli Calls Steven Spielberg's Praise 'Amazing'

"Paranormal Activity" wouldn't have been shown in mainstream theaters if not for movie fans demanding it. But we can also thank one particular movie lover for getting it distributed: Steven Spielberg. A widely circulated part of the film's backstory involves Spielberg viewing — and being terrified by — the low-budget horror flick.

And "Paranormal Activity" writer/director Oren Peli couldn't be happier about his idol's reaction.

"It was amazing," he told MTV News of Spielberg's interest in the film. "One of the most shocking moments of my life was to hear that not only he saw the movie, but he loved it and was frightened by it."

A giant shark believed to be up to 6m long almost bit a great white shark in half off the coast of an Australian island. Two bites were taken out of the 3m white pointer by another great white, which is believed to be 1.5m longer than the creature at the centre of Steven Spielberg's Jaws, Australia's Daily Telegraph reports.
