Blake Shelton is one lucky man. Many superstars of his caliber have difficulty finding the inspiration to to become superstars and to continue to be one. This is not the case for the “Boys ‘Round Here” singer. Blake Shelton was lucky enough to have been able to find his inspiration all around him. In fact, the inspiration for his career in country music was practically in his own backyard.

Plenty of actors have played Abraham Lincoln well, but the actor still most associated with the role is Raymond Massey, who starred in Robert E. Sherwood’s Pulitzer Prizewinning play. The film version was not a hit, as Sherwood’s aim is to capture the melancholy, even the foreboding, of a man who was a natural for politics. In this reading Lincoln tries to resist his ‘call to greatness’ knowing he’s letting himself in for an unhappy life. The Warner Archive’s restoration retrieves the film from old 16mm prints, restoring James Wong Howe’s handsome cinematography.

"Who are these people trying to protect themselves from?" Freestyle Digital Media has debuted the first trailer for the indie comedy A Bad Idea Gone Wrong, a goofy film about two wanna-be thieves who trap themselves in a house they just broke into. Yeah, it's pretty much one of those why-not, let's-try-it concepts that kind of works, but also kind of doesn't. This played at a few festivals this year to quite a bit of acclaim, like winning the Best Feature prize at the dead Center Film Festival. The cast of A Bad Idea Gone Wrong includes Matt Jones, Will Rogers, Eleanore Pienta, Sam Eidson, and Jonny Mars. This looks a bit odd, there's something weird about the trailer that doesn't feel quite right to me. But I do think this seems like the film would be worth seeing at a festival. There's something quirky about it that's appealing enough.

Writer/director Jason Headley’s debut feature represents the sort of unassuming, low-key comedy whose minor pleasures become magnified when showcased amid film festival dross. But it nonetheless signifies a talent to watch. A Bad Idea Gone Wrong should find appreciative audiences in home viewing formats thanks to its quirky humor, enhanced by terrific performances from its cast, who won a special jury prize for best ensemble cast at SXSW.

Good movies are rarer than we sometimes realize. If there’s one thing you can say for Steven Spielberg, he makes good movies. His films hold together with a solidity often missing in the more bloated, action and CGI- filled blockbusters that fill our multiplexes. His characters entertain while maintaining reality and depth; his plot arcs are well paced; and damn he knows how to create cinematic tension with a minimum of fuss. All of this is true for Bridge of Spies, Spielberg’s latest Academy Award-nominated Cold War thriller that has just hit Blu-ray and DVD.
Bridge of Spies introduces us to James Donovan (Tom Hanks), a successful insurance attorney in New York given the unenviable task of defending accused Soviet spy Rudolf Abel (Mark Rylance) in criminal court. The trial is meant to showcase the American justice system, proving to the Soviets and the American people that even...

Steven Spielberg's entertaining true life account of a chapter in the Cold War concerns a crucial negotiation by a brave attorney (Tom Hanks) who goes way out on a limb in East Berlin. The Cold War spy drama Bridge Of Spies is Steven Spielberg’s best film in years. This Oscar-bait film, based on the real events around the American U-2 pilot was shot down and captured over Soviet Russian airspace, features a script co-written by Joel and Ethan Coen, a cast headed by Tom Hanks and Mark Rylance, the renowned British actor some audiences might know from the BBC’s bloody historical drama series “Wolf Hall” that played on PBS, and photography by the Oscar-winning cinematographer Janusz Kaminski, whose past films include “Schindler’s List,” “Saving Private Ryan” and “The Diving Bell and the Butterfly.”
All that talent comes together in the perfect blend to create a highly entertaining film. The film is set in the late ’50s-early ’60s Cold War, the period between the Commie-hunting hysteria of the McCarthy era and the Cuba Missile Crisis. Bridge Of Spies dramatizes two interconnected spy cases,...

Bridge of Spies
Written by Matt Charman, Ethan Coen & Joel Coen
Directed by Steven Spielberg
USA, 2015
Governments and citizens have always been willing to overlook due process in times of panic or paranoia. In the new espionage epic, Bridge of Spies, director Steven Spielberg expertly ties modern-day security panic with Cold War paranoia. It’s Spielberg at his wonky best, aided by some first-rate cinematography and a predictably wonderful performance from Tom Hanks. Bridge of Spies may be awkward and clunky at times, but it still paints a vivid picture of the dangerous intersection between secrecy and security.
Russian nationalist Rudolf Abel (Mark Rylance) is clearly up to something. An exhilarating opening sequence tracks this mild-mannered painter as he makes his way around 1957 Brooklyn, New York. After evading CIA agents in a crowded subway, Abel is finally arrested in his modest studio, but not before he meticulously inspects a paper...

Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg re-team for Bridge of Spies, about a famous trade-off of captured spies between the Soviets and the United States during the Cold War. While Hanks portrayed James Donovan, the lawyer who facilitated the trade, Mark Rylance played captured Soviet spy Rudolph Abel, Austin Stowell played Gary Powers, and Will Rogers played the American graduate student caught in the crosshairs, Frederic Pryor. As it turns out, though, Spielberg wasn.t the first person to try and bring this story to life. During the press conference for Bridge of Spies during the New York Film Festival, the filmmaker relayed the tale of how Gregory Peck, renowned actor of films like Roman Holiday and To Kill A Mockingbird, tried to get this movie made. Spielberg said, I was meeting with the Donovan family . I was meeting with the two daughters and the son . this morning. And I found...

On Sunday, cast and filmmakers from DreamWorks Pictures dramatic thriller Bridge Of Spies celebrated the film’s world premiere at Alice Tully Hall as part of the 53rd Annual New York Film Festival where they received a standing ovation.
One of the best films this year, Bridge Of Spies stars Tom Hanks, Mark Rylance, Scott Shepherd, Amy Ryan, Sebastian Koch, Alan Alda, Austin Stowell, Mikhail Gorevoy and Will Rogers.
The first reviews came out this evening:
“It’s no small feat turning a shyster and a spy into national heroes, but that’s the unique achievement of Steven Spielberg’s “Bridge of Spies.” If Jimmy Stewart were alive today, the director surely would have asked him to play James Donovan, a noble New York insurance lawyer roped into providing an alleged Soviet agent with pro-bono legal representation, who later goes on to broker his exchange for two Americans held captive by Commies.

Relatively Media has announced that they will be developing a a biopic based on American business magnate and philanthropist John D. Rockefeller. They've hired Lasse Hallstrom (My Life as a Dog, Cider House Rules) to direct the movie, and Dallas Buyers Club screenwriter Craig Borten to write the script.
The film will be an adaptation of Ron Chernow’s 1998 book Titan: The Life Of John D. Rockefeller, Sr. In case you're not up to speed on your American history, Rockefeller co-founded Standard Oil Co. in 1870 and revolutionized the oil industry. It made him the world’s first billionaire. He also ended up giving away most of his fortune.
I strongly suggest you watch the History Channel event series The Men Who Built America if you want a solid and entertaining rundown of Rockefeller and several other men that took America to the next level of greatness in terms of business and industry.

Ah FrightFest how I love thee. Yes, my annual excursion to Scotland for Glasgow FrightFest continues this year, and I couldn’t be happier! This years line-up is strong, Very strong, with plenty of variety and some great film picks by Alan, Ian, Paul and Greg. Plus the appearance of Norwegian drama Hellsfjord! Of all the films showing this year there’s one that I most excited to see – Detention of the Dead… I’ve tried my hardest to cover the film as much as possible over the past year as it looks like my “cup of tea”, so for it to show at FrightFest is awesome (although to be fair I already knew that was in the line-up). However the real big surprise is the appearance of Neil Jordan’s Byzantium in the line-up – the Scottish crowd is notoriously “blood-thirtsy” so I hope Jordan’s film isn’t too sedate for the Glasgow crowd.

The Bay will be released tomorrow and we have a new clip for you to watch. The found footage horror movie was directed by Barry Levinson and stars Will Rogers, Christopher Denham, and Kristen Connolly.
“Two million fish washed ashore. One thousand blackbirds dropped from the sky. On July 4, 2009 a deadly menace swept through the quaint seaside town of Claridge, Maryland, but the harrowing story of what happened that Independence Day has never been told – until now. From Oscar(r)-winning* director Barry Levinson and the producers of Paranormal Activity and Insidious comes this nerve-shredding tale of a small town plunged into absolute terror. Environmental catastrophe is back in the headlines this week, and The Bay delivers a doozy, a plague of fish-eating parasites mutated to the size of kittens courtesy of the steroid-soaked run-off from a factory farm.
Once fish stocks start dying off these creatures must seek another host species and Man is definitely the next best place to hide.
Academy Award™ regular Barry Levinson constructs a found footage narrative around this scenario that’s believably and consistently scary. It purports to represent the government-confiscated audio-visual material culled from the tiny Chesapeake Bay resort of Claridge, July 4th 2009. Phone cameras, CCTV, text messages, Skype and Face Time chats, actual news footage and 9-1-1 recordings are pieced together to form a chronological account of The Day The Town Died. With The Bay (review) hitting theatres and VOD this weekend we sat down with director Barry Levinson to talk horror, found footage, Isopods, and more!
"The Bay kind of evolved," says Levinson regarding the genesis of the project. "I was originally asked to do a documentary about the Chesapeake Bay because it is 40% dead. I started collecting the information and the facts, and they were quite frightening. Once everything was in front of me, I didn't think the subject would be best served by doing a documentary. So I thought to myself, 'What if we just told this story in a traditional narrative way?' So from there we brought all of the facts into it, and it just kept getting scarier. This led to the form that the film eventually took. We ended up shooting the film in eighteen days for two million dollars, and that's how it all happened.

Around these parts we're pretty stoked for you cats to see the upcoming flick The Bay (review). Why? Because it's hands down one of the most frightening flicks of the year.

Oh, my God, it’s disgusting! Well, what else to expect from a horror movie which deals with parasites, creepy creatures and… isopods like in this completely fresh clip from The Bay! As you already know, Barry Levinson‘s horror opens next month, and now is the perfect time to watch an exclusive fish preparation technique called – isofish! Ok, I just made that up, so what?
Anyway, The Bay story is set in the quaint seaside town of Chesapeake Bay thrives and centers on two biological researchers from France who find a staggering level of toxicity in the water.
As you already guess – they are the good guys who want to prevent natural disaster so they attempt to alert the mayor. He, on the other hand, refuses to create a panic in the docile town and that’s how this nightmare starts…

Title: The Bay Director: Barry Levinson Starring: Kether Donohue, Kristen Connolly, Anthony Reynolds, Andy Stahl, Jody Thompson, Stephen Kunken, Frank Deal, Will Rogers Typically a found footage film means one person just happens to be recording during a phenomenon and just so happens to be committed enough to risk his or her life to keep recording in order to tell the story from beginning to end in a format that just so happens to match a standard screenplay structure. Kudos to director Barry Levinson and writer Michael Wallach for making a movie that actually attempts to compile a more realistic version of found footage, but, in the end, doing so [ Read More ]

If you love some creature features, well, Barry Levinson’s The Bay seems to deliver the goods.
Another found footage nightmare have at least ‘paranormal’ horror movie pedigree as it’s produced by the team of Jason Blum and Steven Schneider (Paranormal Activity franchise, Insidious) and is directed by Academy Award-winner Levinson (Rain Man, The Natural, Good Morning, Vietnam, Sphere).
Will Rogers, Steven Kunken, Kether Donohue, Frank Deal, Christopher Denham and Kristin Connelly star in this very surprising film for the director of such classics.
Roadside Attractions has released the trailer and we can predict that some genuinely creepy moments are shouldered with some genuinely cliched ones.
Eco-horror The Bay hit limited theaters on November 2nd, 2012.

After directing classics like Diner, Rain Man and The Natural, director Barry Levinson is headed down a very different path for his next film, The Bay. Teaming with producers of Paranormal Activity and Insidious, the horror film, which is set to premiere as part of the Tiff Midnight Madness slate, tells the story of a toxic outbreak in Chesapeake Bay.
We’ve got the first trailer and poster today, which actually looks to be quite terrifying. I could give or take many of the recent found footage horror films, but considering this takes a slightly more realistic approach it seems to be more unsettling that most in the genre. Check it out below via Apple for the film also starring Will Rogers, Kristen Connolly, Kether Donohue, Frank Deal, Stephen Kunken, Christopher Denham and Nansi Aluka.

Josh Nussbaum, director of photography on Barry Levinson's The Bay, has posted a montage image of behind-the-scenes goodies from the set of the first-person alien sci-fi horror. What catches my eye is the corpse on the bottom right. Awesome. The found footage flick comes from the producers behind Paranormal Activity, Insidious and Rob Zombie's forthcoming The Lords of Salem.
