Earlier today, we took a look back the Wes Craven-directed 2005 thriller Red Eye… so we figured, why not follow that up by taking a look at a remake of a Craven horror film that was released the year after Red Eye reached theatres? The movie we’re taking about is the 2006 version of The Hills Have Eyes (watch it Here), a remake of Craven’s 1977 classic. It’s time for this one to be revisited, and you can hear all about it in the embed above.
While the original film was written and directed by Craven, Alexandre Aja directed the remake from a screenplay he wrote with Grégory Levasseur. Here’s the synopsis: Bob Carter and his wife Ethel, along with five other members of the family, are heading for San Diego with their camper van. An accident strands them in the desert and while two of the men go for help,...

Ebon Moss-Bachrach is cast as Marvel’s new Ben Grimm / The Thing in the upcoming film, The Fantastic Four. Before The Bear actor was tasked with the role in the MCU, Michael Bailey Smith, Carl Ciarfalio, Michael Chiklis, and Jamie Bell played the role in earlier live-action movies. However, Marvel did one thing right with Moss-Bachrach’s casting from the earlier iterations, as they appropriately cast a Jewish actor in the role.
The Bear actor Ebon Moss-Bachrach is cast as Ben Grimm / The Thing in the MCU’s The Fantastic Four
In Marvel Comics, Benjamin Grimm is Jewish and first revealed his identity in an emotional moment. Jack Kirby, who created the character, modeled Ben after himself and named him after his father Benjamin Kurtzberg.

Film fans love to speculate on what canceled movie productions would have become. What would it have been like to see Steven Spielberg's science fiction epic "Robopocalypse," Quentin Tarantino's Vega Brothers movie, Stanley Kubrick's ambitious "Napoleon" biopic, or Alejandro Jodorowsky's "Dune" adaptation? Would they be everything fans imagined them to be? Or crushing disappointments? While it's fun to speculate, we can't put our faith into something that doesn't exist. Likely, these films wouldn't have lived up to fans' massive expectations.
Intriguing projects often never see the light of day in today's world of blockbuster-focused cinema. If a project becomes stuck in "development hell" for too long, its participants may lose interest. Marvel's "First Family" has had a rocky road to the big screen. Although the characters of Reed Richards, Sue Storm, Johnny Storm, and Ben Grimm have delighted Marvel comic book fans for generations, the "Fantastic Four" has never received the cinematic adaptation that they deserve. Unfortunately, these great characters have never been properly utilized. The "Fantastic Four" comics show what it's like to balance superhero responsibilities with familial duties.
Mr. Fantastic, the Invisible Woman, the Human Torch, and the Thing were brought to life in 1994's "The Fantastic Four," a low-budget film that never received a theatrical release. It wasn't until 2005 that they made it to the big screen when Ioan Gruffudd, Jessica Alba, Chris Evans, and Michael Chiklis were cast in Tim Story's "Fantastic Four." While the cast has strong chemistry, the film did not strike the right tone. 2007's "Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer" at...

When Warner Bros. Discovery announced its much-anticipated Batgirl movie would be shelved, the news sent shockwaves through Hollywood. While the studio eventually expressed concerns the work done by directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah failed to live up to “spectacle that audiences have come to expect from DC fare,” the final decision to leave the film unreleased, despite reportedly having spent upwards of 90 million on it, felt unprecedented in the ever-expanding age of superhero movies.
It was heartbreaking on multiple levels. Adil & Bilall had already proven themselves adept big budget filmmakers on the brilliant Bad Boys for Life while the eye-catching cast included J.K. Simmons getting another go as Commissioner Gordon, Brendan Fraser continuing the “Franaissance” as villain Firefly, and Michael Keaton donning the Batsuit for the first time in nearly two decades. Last year, 20th Century Fox released a “Fantastic Four” reboot directed by Josh Trank. Starring Miles Teller (“Whiplash”), Michael B. Jordan (“Creed”), Kate Mara (“The Martian”), Jamie Bell (“Snowpiercer”), the film was a critical and commercial disaster. The reboot tried to jumpstart the franchise after the original 2005 series underperformed with its 2007 sequel. But in 1994, Bernd Eichinger of Constantin Film and director Roger Corman teamed up to make their own “Fantastic Four” film that never saw the light of day.

Back before Hollywood studios like Warner Bros., Sony, Paramount, Universal and 20th Century Fox realized that you could actually make money off of adapting silly comic books into movies, there was a German producer by the name of Bernd Eichinger. He had the vision to see that comic books could become blockbusters and had his company purchase the film rights to the Fantastic Four from Stan Lee. One issue, his company didn't have the money to actually make a big-budget Hollywood film. So, in order to keep the film rights his company hired Roger Corman to produce it, as he was well known for making films on the cheap. The cast included: Alex Hyde-White as Reed Richards / Mr. Fantastic, Jay Underwood as Johnny Storm / Human Torch, Rebecca Staab as Sue Storm / Invisible Woman, Michael Bailey Smith as Ben Grimm, Carl Ciarfalio as the Thing and Joseph Culp as...

Aside from all the new ideas to be found on crowdfunding websites such as Kickstarter - including a new variety of beef jerky made from posh Japanese cows - there are all sorts of opportunities to indulge our sense of nostalgia.
Through sheer coincidence, the projects that caught my eye this week all have a retro theme; there's a documentary about a forgotten adaptation of a Marvel comic book, a timely revival of one of the most innovative computer games of the 1980s, and a special English language edition of a classic Japanese manga. Although very different, each of these crowdfunding projects is worthy of support, since they're all niche interests that simply couldn't find financial backing through other means.

2012 was a mega year for superhero movies. Not only did Nolan bring his third and final Dark Knight movie to the screen, to the collected hysteria of almost the entire world, but the Avengers made their first collective appearance and a new Spider-Man showed up with an edgier attitude and wicked skateboard skills that anyone over the age of 25 probably groaned at a little bit.
And the tide of good will to all comic book adaptations shows no signs of stopping, with a whole new phase for Marvel, but a hotly anticipated attempt to make a Jla movie from DC, plus new X-Men, Antman, Wolverine, Guardians Of The Galaxy and many, many more incoming. It’s good to be a comic book movie fan at the minute.
But it wasn’t always so, and dirtying the mostly very impressive relationship between comics and movies are those repugnant, terrible early efforts...

It seems that the director was apparently unaware that producer Roger Corman was filming the $1 million flick just to keep the license to the franchise, which he would later sell to Fox for millions more. Since then, Sassone has gone on to direct a number of action television series (She Spies and Mutant X among them) and relatively low budget featues, but this conversation -- again, conducted in 1994 -- is strictly on the Ff, which starred Alex Hyde-White as Reed Richards, Rebecca Staab as Sue Storm, Jay Underwood as Johnny Storm and Michael Bailey Smith as Ben Grimm. Retrovision: Upon hearing that Roger Corman was doing the Fantastic Four, an eyebrow can't help but be raised. Oley Sassone: It's kind of cheesy, but the other partner in this is Constantine Film Development. That's who brought me into the project, because I didn't want to do a movie with Roger Corman.

Deon Taylor’s Chain Letter wishes it was everything a horror fan would want in a movie. Good looking teens on the run and looking over their shoulder with every step they take with a crazed mysterious killer chasing after them. Chain Letter has lot’s of blood and gore with inventive kills from a guy who they simply call the Chain Man, but there's not much story to this.
Jessie Campbell (Nikki Reed ) leads the teen charge when they all start receiving a certain chain letter through email, which warns them to not stop the chain letter. When they do stop bad things start to happen.
There are some familiar genre faces in this film including a weird performance by Brad Dourif (Child’s Play) playing school teacher Mr. Smirker and Betsy Russell (Saw The Final Chapter) portraying Sergeant Hamill. There are a few more familiar faces you’ll recognize too.

Despite having only several titles released this week in our beloved genre, some of them are deemed very worthy of our hard-earned dollars.
While there were strong initial feelings about a Us remake of a damn near perfect foreign film, the end result is hauntingly accessible to fans of both the book as well as its film adaptation, Let the Right One In. How will you feel about it? Decide for yourself this week. Once you're done with your decision making, raise your Hatchets high and get ready to have a bloody good time because the movie they didn't want you to see is finally here! It's short, but it packs a helluva kick. We've got the first clip from Deon Taylor's Chain Letter for you. I can't explain the context of the preview, where it fits in, or why this poor sap would be chained to two cars pulling out of the driveway, but it sure is damn amusing. Nikki Reed, Noah Segan, Keith David, Betsy Russell and Michael Bailey Smith star in the film which opens on October 1.

"When high school senior Jessie Campbell (Nikki Taylor) and her tight-knit group of friends begin to receive a series of foreboding email chain letters, they have no idea the terror that awaits them. With a warning that if they break the chain, they will lose a life, the seemingly harmless email turns deadly when one-by-one the friends that do not forward the chain letter are hunted down and gruesomely killed by horror's newest villain, the Chain Man."...
