Chicago – The year 2016 was a dangerous one to be a famous person. In the past twelve months, one dozen of my former photo subjects passed away, celebrities who at one time or another famously posed for my lens. However, on a positive note, at least photos are forever. Or to quote the immortal words of Pee Wee Herman – “Why don’t you take a picture, it will last longer!”
The ranking of the portraits are based on a combination of the star power wattage of the subjects, the artistic results and the difficulty of landing the quarry…for those budding smart-phone-celebrity-stalkers who may wish to play along at home. So without further adieu, I present my top 20 celebrity portraits of 2016.

Downton Abbey has come and gone for another year, but fear ye not, as we still have the Christmas special to look forward to!
Last week, ITV confirmed that Julian Fellowes's period drama will return for a sixth series in 2015.
The Christmas special is most likely to take place a year later in 1925, so chances are that the sixth series will travel to 1926 - the year of the General Strike, the first televisions, the first British Grand Prix and Winnie-the-Pooh.
While it is not currently known whether this could be the final series, we have picked eight things that we would definitely like to see happen next year.
1. A quick conclusion to the Anna storyline
This will hopefully be settled by the end of the Christmas special, but, if not, we hope that Anna (Joanne Froggatt) will be back safe and sound at Downton by the start of the sixth series.

New NBC comedies Bad Judge and A to Z, along with Fox’s Broadchurch adaptation Gracepoint, all got off to a slow start on Thursday night, but there was good news for at least one network: How to Get Away with Murder stayed strong for ABC in its second week. The Biggest Loser opened the night on NBC low with just 4.7 million viewers and a 1.3 in the 18-49 demographic. New comedies Bad Judge (5.8 million viewers, 1.3) and A to Z (4.8 million, 1.2) were both down 41% and 3 percent, respectively, from the one-hour premiere of The Michael J. Fox Show in the same time slot last year.

I have to admit that I’m a fan of ABC Family in general, and there aren’t many of their original shows that have let me down, but their holiday efforts are among my favorite television “events,” and it’s closing in on Halloween again. The 16th Annual 13 Nights of Halloween is starting in a month and a day, and you should make sure you have your calendar marked with all the opportunities.
It is slightly repetitive, and a little Tim Burton heavy (if there is such a thing for an event centered around Halloween), but the programming has become a real tradition, and there are three shows with Halloween specials, and a reality prank program in the mix. Plus, you’ve obviously got all your Halloween staples to enjoy, and a good mix of your favorites and new entries.

In 2012, CBS premiered a new show about two odd-couple male pals. It was called Partners, and on the surface, it seemed to have everything going for it—a prime slot following How I Met Your Mother, a great pedigree courtesy of two ’90s sitcom wizards (it was created by Max Mutchnick and David Kohan of Will & Grace fame), two charismatic stars (Michael Urie and David Krumholtz). Even so, Partners failed to gain traction. Critics griped that its old-fashioned jokes were tired rather than appealingly retro; just a few weeks into the 2012-2013 TV season, it became one of the first shows to get the ax.

I don’t want dampen the euphoria of the writers, producers and actors who just got their pilots picked up to series — big congrats to you all! — but let’s not forget the extremely high casualty rate of the broadcast business. NBC suffered a number of setbacks this year, with its original series Ironside, Welcome to the Family, The Michael J. Fox Show, Sean Saves the World, Dracula, Crisis and Believe all proving dead on arrival, and Revolution shedding viewers at an alarming rate in its second (and likely last) season. Only James Spader drama The Blacklist arrived as a modest hit, while perennial underdogs Community and Parks and Recreation have been holding their own in the comedy department. To put it simply, the Peacock network really needs a hit, and execs are now pinning their hopes and dreams on pirate drama Crossbones, which arrives next month.
Unfortunately, though Crossbones has been in development for a few years, the fact that Starz got their pirate drama Black Sails to air before Crossbones paints NBC in an unsavory light (not exactly a new position for the network behind ill-fated Revenge clone Deception,...

Syfy’s new “werewolf” series Bitten stars Laura Vandervoort and is based on the bestselling author Kelley Armstrong’s Women of the Otherworld series of novels. In anticipation of the shows Us debut tonight we sat down with the pair to discuss the show, its origins and state of genre television…
Kelley, I wondered – I noticed that the show runner, Daegon Frynklind — she wrote the pilot. I thought she did a really good job. I probably murdered her name there. But IMDb also gives you writing credits. I wondered if could confirm that and perhaps tell us how many and which episodes coming up that you wrote — if any.
Kelley Armstrong: And no. I have not written any. There was talk of that early on. They had asked if I wanted to. And I definitely did. Nothing came of it, but maybe at some point in the future.

Could there be a bright-and-shiny timeline in which Dan Harmon returns to the helm of Community…?
During a Sunday evening recording of his Harmontown podcast, the Community creator reportedly let slip that he has been invited back for the cult comedy’s somewhat surprisingly greenlit Season 5, says the website Hollywookie.com, which had a staffer in the audience at the taping.
As the story goes, Harmon at first asked the podcast crew to edit out that jawdropper, only to then shrug, “Ah, f–k it. I don’t care who knows!”

This week's gonzo teen nightmare Spring Breakers is trumpeting the fact that two of its leads - Vanessa Hudgens and Selena Gomez - traditionally play "good girls". But the whole "teen idol gone bad" strategy is a longstanding Hollywood tradition aimed to help transition pigeonholed teen stars into "serious" actors.
Here are a few fellas who tried the tactic, to varying degrees of success.
Jonathan Taylor Thomas in Speedway Junky
The squeaky-clean kid from Home Improvement took a step toward tarnishing his image by playing an evil, bisexual hooker in this gritty drama, giving a whole new meaning to "Tool Time"!

Harold And Maude (Criterion) Hal Ashby’s masterpiece of black humor centers on a wealthy young man (Bud Cort) who’s obsessed with death and the septuagenarian (Ruth Gordon) with whom he finds true love. As unabashedly romantic as it is quirky, with Cat Stevens supplying one of the great film scores of all-time. Fine support from Vivian Pickles, Cyril Cusack, Charles Tyner, and Ellen Geer. Fine screenplay by Colin Higgins. Also available on Blu-ray disc. Bonuses: Commentary by Hal Ashby biographer Nick Dawson, producer Charles Mulvehill; Illustrated audio excerpts from seminars by Ashby and Higgins; Interview with Cat Stevens. Widescreen. Dolby 2.0 stereo.
In Darkness (Sony) Agnieszka Holland’s Ww II epic tells the true story of a sewer worker and petty thief in Nazi-occupied Poland who single-handedly helped hide a group of Jews in the city’s labyrinthine sewer system for the duration of the war.

After a mid-season hiatus, everyone was speculating what would happen to the liars after getting jailed: would they be convicted of murder? Would ‘A’ finally win? Suddenly, the girls lay the ultimate trap by pretending to be enemies while ‘A’ preys on each of them, unaware that they’re stronger than ever. Religious leaders in Honduras want to bar Ricky Martin from entry to the country because he's a gay dad. They think keeping one of the world's biggest pop stars outside the border is necessary to "protect the moral and ethical principles of our society."
Meanwhile, in America, author Michael Brown says the ultimate goal of gay activists isn't equality, but to put all the Christians in jail. Darn, they're on to us! I wonder if they know it's only until we can get enough lions?
A military appeals court has ruled that a Marine didn't violate the uniform policy by wearing part of his uniform in a gay adult film (well, several) he appeared in. Evidently if you don't wear it all, you're fine.
The Supreme Court is expected to pick up several interesting cases this session, including the healthcare reform law, and whether Cher's potty mouth destroys the fabric of the universe.

In his forthcoming memoir, "Stories I Only Tell My Friends," Rob Lowe dishes on the early days of the "Brat Pack" (he used to hate the term, coined by a "scumbag" journalist), his friendship with Charlie Sheen (who used to wear a bulletproof vest under his clothes to school), and his many lovers (Demi Moore, Natassja Kinski, Princess Stephanie, Melissa Gilbert, and Fawn Hall, of Iran-Contra infamy).
Breezy and light, the book is a fun read, and Lowe drops enough names and reveals enough personal stories to keep you turning its pages. It's easy to imagine the young kid from Ohio landing in Malibu and pinching himself as his life is transformed -- at one point during his Teen Beat phase, young female fans used to sneak into his bedroom, waking up his parents -- though he has a big enough ego that he can't help putting himself at the center of major news events,...

I must have watched the 1985 Michael J. Fox version of Teen Wolf dozens of times. It was one of those movies I must have asked my mum to video off the telly to watch with my friend Steven when I was about 10 and would just continue to watch until the video tape wore out! I wasn’t too sure how I felt about a TV series of the movie being announced by MTV a while back but then I heard that director of Splinter & The Grudge 3 (and one of our first ever friends on Twitter, Toby Wilkins) would be co-directing so I jumped on board with the idea.
The TV series stars Linden Ashby, Tyler Hoechlin, Crystal Reed, Tyler Posey, Colton Haynes, Holland Roden, Robert Pralgo, Jr Bourne and Sharon Morris.

I was driving through Griffith Park, on my way to don my monkey puppet for the Los Angeles Haunted Hayride, when I went past the filming for Adam Sandler's Jack and Jill. In it, he plays both the brother and annoying sister of the title. As I went past, I saw Mr. Sandler decked out in his requisite fat suit and wig, spazzing around on a soccer field. I was the scariest thing I saw all night.
As an actor, I always wonder why certain folks feel the need to play several characters in the same film. I'm not talking about when actors have to play twin brothers or sisters or what have you, I mean that they play two separate characters entirely. It always seems odd to me. And it always seems like there are several actors who do this more frequently than most.
I think the record...

HeyUGuys recently caught up with Hollywood A-list filmmaker Edward Zwick to chat to him about his new feature Love and Other Drugs – a romantic comedy drama starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Anne Hathaway which see’s the director abandon his big-budget, socially conscious action epics and return to a smaller, intimate character piece in the style of his earlier work.
HeyUGuys: Did you encounter any struggles in combining the themes of sex, love, illness, and drugs into one movie?
Edward Zwick: It’s been my experience of life that there are always conflicting and competing themes happening at any one moment – that there’s something going on with your family, something happening at work, something going on with your health and part of the juggling act of life is to reconcile all the chaos of that and I was hoping to capture some of that in a film. Some films,...

The duo will be responsible for opening the recently-formed company's West Coast offices. Ghouls and goblins... Fanboys and freaks... Not to mention, huge stars including Halle Berry, Kristen Stewart, James Cameron, Megan Fox, Mickey Rourke and Michael J. Fox... They all were out in full force for Spike TV's 5th Annual "Scream 2010" awards on Saturday night at the Greek Theatre nestled deep in the woods of La's Griffith Park.

In the issue of EW that came out 20 years ago this week (cover story: Elvis Presley!), I gave negative reviews to a pair of movies that both arrived on the scene to a kind of instant cachet: Whit Stillman’s insect-under- glass preppy drawing-room comedy Metropolitan and the Christian Slater midnight-radio- outlaw fable Pump Up the Volume. I wasn’t with the pack on either one; both had legions of fans, and critics, behind them. So I thought I’d go back and take another look at both movies to see if I still agreed with my original reviews. I...

Greetings, PopSasquatchers! The 2010 Vancouver Olympics closing ceremonies are still raging on, but I no longer recognize the Canadian musicians, and Joannie Rochette just rushed through the same interview she's probably recited a billion times. It's time to say goodbye. In honor of Team U.S.A.'s medal count, here are 37 of my favorite moments from tonight's closing ceremonies. 1. O Canada! Your tongue-in-cheek humor delights us early on as only three arms of the Olympic torch raise -- and this time, it's intentional. 2. Some crazy mime/mechanic "fixed it" through the power of facial expression and "dance." He is an Olympic hero for the ages,...

Being typecast as a certain kind of actor is a bitch, particularly for younger actors (especially those on long-running television shows) who are identified with certain characters or types of roles. Unfortunately, there's usually an expiration date on those types of characters/roles, so an actor is faced with one of two options: Ride it out as long as you can (see The Olson Twins and Michael J. Fox, to an extent) or do something dramatic to redefine yourself. Sometimes, however, you can overshoot when you're attempting to redefine yourself -- look at Elizabeth Berkeley (Showgirls) and Lindsay Lohan (I Know Who Killed Me), who essentially flushed their movie careers down the toilet by showing us too much. Of course, people like Adam Sandler (Punch-Drunk Love), Jim Carrey (The Truman Show), and Will Ferrell (Stranger than Fiction) have also made these dramatic career movies, but in doing so, they didn't...

Although Family Guy: Volume Seven (20th Century Fox, $39.98) came out a few weeks ago (June 16), I wasn’t able to get my review done until now. But, like a school kid not handing in his homework, I have an excuse: My dog ate my DVD review. No, actually, what happened was 1) I didn’t get the DVD from Fox until the day of its release; 2) I was away on a Last Airbender set visit (check out our first coverage of that upcoming M. Night Shyamalan film on this site) and didn’t get back to the office until later; and 3) The friggin’ DVD set has 305 minutes of episodes that I had to listen to twice (!) because I also had to check out the audio commentaries. Throw in the special features (including three more animatic audio tracks), and the final tally to watch Everything on Volume Seven is around 12 hours.

[TV] 2009 Nickelodeon Kca Or Better Known As Disney's Free Publicity And How It Destroys Our Culture
Ok, before I go off on my tangent I want you to know that I am aware this is a kids show and that is it meant for kids between the ages of 0 to 15 or so, but it still is becoming just like a lot of "award" shows, a big publicity sham. Disney ran away with award after award from their T.V. and movie and music section all while continuously promoting their own stuff throughout the commercials and during the show even. What I have the real problem with is some of the "winners" and how repulsive these "role models" have become. The goal of these programs nowadays is to market themselves while doing it on their own show and getting paid for it, it's like porn, we all love it and we all do it so why not get paid for it eh? Although porn is a funny...

Mission accomplished! Ryan Reynolds completed the Ing New York City Marathon on Sunday – and lived to tell about it. "I'm still standing. I'm very excited about that," he told reporters after crossing the finish line in 3 hours and 50 minutes, faster than he anticipated. "It was an incredible experience." Reynolds says in the last leg of the race, he was motivated to keep going by one special spectator. "When I saw Michael J. Fox on Fifth Avenue, I gained about 15 pounds in goose bumps," said Reynolds. "It kind of pushed me through the last six miles or so."Reynolds ran for...
