The Power of a Symbol
GomezAddams66616 April 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This episode was packed heavily with symbols, and the power that comes with it, the legacy of them.

After all, it wasn't John Walker killing someone in cold blood what people saw, it was Captain America killing someone in cold blood.

I felt every character in this episode started to reflect on the power that the Captain America mantle brings, the legacy of it, and the significance of who should be bestowed with such a powerful symbol, as Doctor Erskine made Steve Rogers promise him many years ago that he would be "Not a perfect soldier, but a good man."

Elsewhere, the dice have been cast, and the final battle between the GRC and the Flag-Smashers is nearing its inevitable catharsis, and the lines have not been drawn that clear to unequivocally say who the bad guys really are.

The end is nigh.

About the "politics"
jtcahill-2948916 April 2021
This was a great episode, but I need to address something. For everyone complaining about "the politics", grow the hell up. This isn't a kid's show. They are going to tackle real issues, and if you're not mature enough to deal with that, then you shouldn't be watching this. If politics was genuinely the issue, you should have had the same reaction to the the Flag Smashers wanting a world without borders and the refugee crisis.

Comic book done right.
adumike16 April 2021
Reviews below dont add up. This is a comicbook story, so it is based on the comicbooks. Disney is not been woke, because in the comics isiah bradley actually goes through that situation, and falcon is actually discriminated against. This is not a random attribute disney just threw in there. Episode was great and comic accurate.

Didn't want it to end.
maxglen16 April 2021
A slower episode aside from it's intro but a far richer character study and nuanced portrayal than the rest of the season. Great to see Bucky and Sam finally becoming the people they were meant to be.

What's up with the bad rating?
ivanobevanda16 April 2021
Are people really that stubborn that they rate an episode based on politics? Like, what? Don't give an episode a lower rating just because you don't agree with the politics. It just feels, weird. I loved the episode. It was great, honestly, loved the cliffhanger!

Doesn't add up
Sb956718 April 2021
Warning: Spoilers
What doesn't make sense to me is that Sam is already a hero. He's already adored and idolised by many. He already has respect from most people. He's fought alongside Captain America and the Avengers for a long time. There's already a high-ranking black hero in the US Military: War Machine.

So the reason he never wanted to pick up the shield is because...he's black?

That aside, it was generally a good episode. Not as much action, but it's ok to have some slower paced episodes to focus on families, flesh out the characters and set up the finale.

But his reason for not wanting to become Captain America was weak, given his status as a much-loved world hero.

In the comics, when Steve was deprived of the super-soldier serum and started to age quickly, he handled the mantle to Falcon, who accepted it. It felt natural given their relationship and it made sense.

I feel like the writers are just trying to shoehorn the race thing due to the current climate in the real world today. Instead of thinking about what actually makes sense for Falcon who has been a well respected hero, army vet and Government agent for years already.

Best Episode so far!
benwatermeyer16 April 2021
Marvel and Disney have really pushed the boat out with this episode cleverly giving the audience an insight into "what it takes to be Captain America", the meaning of the shield and a contextual narrative that coincides with important topics in the real world.

Some unreal action, contextual narrative and humour leads to a very strong episode that is far from filler!

Feels like nothing of significance happened this episode
Pbwhy16 April 2021
Very slow. A lot of talking, nothing much has happened. Honestly the whole episode could have been 15 minutes long and would be sufficient. Feels like a Nike ad for like the last ten minutes.

Why do «captain America» kick the crap out of the falcon/winter soldier?
johanballestd16 April 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I understand this is a show, but how in the world do cap basically beat falcon and the winter soldier? The winter soldier has been a soldier for over 100 years and have been the most elite killing machine, but when the new whinny captain America gets the super serum, he becomes a half god.

be right back, we gonna fix the boat first
ArchilArjevanidze17 April 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I have no problem with filler episodes, but it should keep you interested, provide more context to things, but here this whole episode feels out of place. Those dangerous terrorists are out there planning attacks, and you just gonna sit there fix the boat and contemplate to have shield for yourself or not? I don't like the politics being such a huge topic, USA had black president for two terms, I don't see how black Captain America will be the issue, when in this universe, they have faced aliens and what not. I don't sympathise with those flagsmashers, I hate her blank face, no emotion whatsoever, I don't really see the world she's trying to create, half of the population is back, what now? What u gonna do? I see her as the villain but the show keeps pushing me to sympathise with her by making politicians seem more evil. So who's the villain here? We're five episodes in, one is left, is it New Cap, that curly girl with a poker face? The power broker? That girl with paintings? Or is she the Power Broker? What was that scene supposed to mean, I don't even know anymore. Sam can fly dodging rockets, into the canyons and out maneuver helicopters or jets, but trembles when catching a frisbee? Bucky is seriously nerfed, he was a badass, now he's just another supersoldier in this universe, who apparently remembers everything aside from his trainings.

Let's be honest
SureCommaNot19 April 2021
Warning: Spoilers
After last week's spectacular one-off, the show gets back to the same old plot holes (on par with The Mandalorian) and bad acting. Why would Karli, supposedly an expert in "laying (sic) low," go back to the location where her followers had just been taken in? And why did Sam, after clearly having no trouble handling the shield, then get a montage showing him learning how to handle the shield? Why does the shield get lodged into trees but then bounce off a wooden dock? And why were there so many cheesy montages?

As for the terrible acting, I found Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Indya Bussey particularly egregious, but all the scenes with the kids, and the scenes with the Flag Smashers, also felt so very scripted. I was very aware I was watching a TV show.

Best part of the episode was the opening fight, and Wyatt Russell deserves an Emmy for his acting. But after the fight was over, it didn't make sense for Bucky to immediately walk away from Sam, nor for Sam to allow himself an elongated emotional moment with the shield, right in front of Walker, given that they didn't know for sure that Walker wasn't going to get right back up again.

I've had to suspend my disbelief way too often with this show.

Even so, last week sure was incredible.

Sigh.

Forget them negative reviewers!
jnatsnw16 April 2021
This episode was all about emotions and setting up the finale. I don't know how I entertained the idea of seeing what was in the box with Sam.

Now to you insecure reviewers, so people can't write stories of their own anymore with or without regard to social events, history and other aspects of our lives and our universe? Wow, we have a lot of pathetic people in our society.

"Truth" is; it's Great
twbond-0086716 April 2021
Warning: Spoilers
The Falcon and The Winter Soldier S1 E5: Truth, delivers like it did with the first episode. It's an explosive, action-packed experience that still brings great dramatic moments, and the necessity of being great.

The first scene before the opening credit is incredible. Falcon and Winter Soldier v Walker, was superbly well done. The showdown between the two against one was well acted. Wyatt Russell is great as U. S. Agent. The final few moments really sets up it's show's finale, and Sam Wilson is ready to kick some action. He is, and should be, the new Cap! However, Bucky is still holding that shield, so who knows?

The friendship between Bucky and Sam are still on point, and episode six is going to really bring the defying friendship together. Someone will own that shield! And I reckon it's Sam.

It's a 10/10 for me! Cannot wait for the series finale.

Strong episode with some memorable moments and performances
snoozejonc23 April 2021
Walker faces the consequences of his actions whilst Sam contemplates what kind of hero he wants to be.

I enjoyed this episode for the character moments, some strong performances, two good montages and a great fight sequence.

This is one of the more reflective episodes so far, that puts heroism in the spotlight and looks at it from different perspectives. There is a strong racial aspect to it. This could have been written with more subtlety, but in my opinion it makes the story a hundred times more interesting than some bland comic-book action adventure with a clearly defined goodies versus baddies structure.

For me this is the strongest character episode so far for Sam and Bucky. I have been critical in previous episodes of their ability to carry show and some of their 'buddy' dynamic has felt a bit forced. However, in this episode it clicks between them on screen together. The boat sequence went on a bit, but I liked it. You don't see enough of superheroes doing important things that are not violent or visually spectacular, so this for me is a breath of fresh air.

There are a number of memorable scenes. The opening fight sequence is one of the best I've seen in the MCU. All scenes involving John Walker are highly compelling. Sam's exchange with Isiah Bradley is excellent. I enjoyed the two montage sequences.

Most performances are great, but Carl Lumbly and Wyatt Russell easily stand out for me.

Aftermath, Forgiveness & Preparing.
wetmars17 April 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This is beautiful. Sam and Bucky got their backs together. I loved the action sequence in the beginning. They broke John's damn arm, holy smokes! It's kinda a shame that Zemo is no longer helping them, but I had a thought that he will probably betray them. Poor Sam got his wings damaged but, he might get some Wakandans wings by the final episode! I feel for Isaiah, poor guy. 30 years being experimented and tortured on, damn. The training montage was nice. Sam 'boutta maybe become the new Captain America! As I have average knowledge about the comics, Walker is preparing to be "U. S. Agent"

The character moments were nice. I quite like Sam more now as he has a stable relationship with my man, Buck. This is setting up the finale.

10/10.

What the cameo
burgerbloggerau16 April 2021
They've been hyping this cameo for weeks now and I had to google her to find out what she actually does in the mcu. They really should not be doing press and media while the show is going. Wandavision with that weak cameo and now this.

A Fantastic Character Episode
denverbaughman16 April 2021
Sure, lets start complaining because a marvel show actually has good writing and takes some time to slow down (something that marvel never does) and actually focus on character growth because now they can because of the longer runtime of shows then movie. Sure, lets complain about the racial issues that were originally brought up in the old comics and are being done here now and call them woke and shoving down our thoughts even though it was handled with tack and respect. Sure, lets complain just like Wandavision when there isn't as much action even though there was an awesome fight scene in the beginning. This all makes sense to me....complete sarcasm by the way.

My favourite episode so far.
stephen_loftus16 April 2021
Warning: Spoilers
So far so good.

This episode to me was the best so far. It touched on real world problems and Marvel are not shying away from these issues. It's refreshing to see.

Bucky has come so far as a character, it's good to see part of the old Bucky we saw leaving Steve(pre serum) at the Stark Expo.

I cannot wait to see Sam's new suit,Fresh from Wakanda. That and the shield will be an iconic moment. And yes......Sam Wilson is our New Captain America.

I really hope that we get a season two. Captain America and The White Wolf sounds good to me.

I personally hope to see Isaiah Bradley in combat.

The loss of BattleStar before we got to see more of this character was a big big loss but it was the catalyst to John Walker(bad cap arch).

P.s Bucky eying up Sarah was a nice touch too.

Letdown
yonatantar16 April 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This episode feels stretched - 10 minutes were spent on just fixing a boat. Another 5 minutes spent listening to a monologue about racism from Isaiah. Gender & Race politics are very obvious in this episode. This is a filler episode with little plot, that sets up the finale.

yurilima-8981019 April 2021
Warning: Spoilers
They literally spend a whole ep fixing a boat, something that has absolutely nothing to do with the storyline, is like he worked for the avengers and went running with Steve for years, but they didn't make any money and he had to to ask for the whole city to go help fixing a bloody boat also war machine has been a "hero" for years and he's black, Sam has been falcon for years too, but now they decided to talk about this? Please just boring boring boring.

People mad bcz show draws real life issue and history!! its not politics, its called reality that conservatives are blind to
buntybc16 April 2021
People be made at show by saying its political, first of all whats wrong wid that and this show does not force you any political agenda down to your throat, so chill conservatives, its not KIDS show, its suppose to make you uncomfortable, bcz all those removing black history for past 500 years, thats 100% true, and here in reviews and comments shows that a fictional show representating some realism and you complain, thats right there folks tryna remove the black history!!. AND THE SHOW ITSELF IS GOOD, WRITING HAS MANY LAYERS WHICH IF YOU DONT LIKE AND SAY ITS POLITICS, ITS NOT POLITICAL SHOW AT ALL, ITS JUST YOU ARE NOT CAPABLE TO UNDERSTAND PEOPLE'S PAIN AND HOW THEY SUFFER AND HOW THEIR STRUGGLE SHAPE THEM WHO THEY ARE, HERE SAM just WANTS TO DO RIGHT BY EVERY SIDE, SAM WANTS TO HEAR EACH SIDE AND UNDERSTANDS EVERYONES PERSEPECTIVE AND UNDERSTANDS WHERE EVERYONE IS COMING FROM, ITS CALLED EMPATHY AND KINDNESS!! HUMAN CHARACTER WHICH NOT MANY PEOPLE POSES! Even Flagsmasher were not bad people, its their reaction to other peoples action which made them homeless and kids suffering from low food and study resources which were given regularly before the bleep/thanos snap !! John walker also they did not made him completely white supremacists, He had his own reason in which their methods were also not correct with flag smasher, John walker was just a toll for government and he made himself a TOOL!! ...... GREAT ACTING, GREAT DIRECTION, CHECK OUT BEYOND THE TRAILER by grace EPISODE 5 BREAKDOWN TO UNDERSTAND HIDDEN DETAILS AND DEEPER LAYERS OF THE SHOW WHICH SOME FOOLS COMPLETELY MISSED. And the cameo was good if you know what it was, it never was big superhero cameo, it was more of a grounded and played by incredible actress from veep and seinfeld. ---------- extended thoughts ---> And Hey today we found out 13yr old kid shot dead on street and police tried to justify it by saying kid is gangster and had gun and fired 8 bullets and non of them were true and they TRY TO HIDE IT, JSUT LIKE SHOW SAID THEY HAVE BEEN REMOVING HISTORY FOR 500 YEARS AND ITS STILL GOING ON, ACCOUNTABILITY IS MUST, OTHERWISE PEOPLE WILL KEEP MAKING MISTAKES AND THEY GET NO KIND OF PUNISHMENTS!!
