The Falcon and the Winter Soldier: Truth (2021)
Season 1, Episode 5
Let's be honest
19 April 2021
Warning: Spoilers
After last week's spectacular one-off, the show gets back to the same old plot holes (on par with The Mandalorian) and bad acting. Why would Karli, supposedly an expert in "laying (sic) low," go back to the location where her followers had just been taken in? And why did Sam, after clearly having no trouble handling the shield, then get a montage showing him learning how to handle the shield? Why does the shield get lodged into trees but then bounce off a wooden dock? And why were there so many cheesy montages?

As for the terrible acting, I found Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Indya Bussey particularly egregious, but all the scenes with the kids, and the scenes with the Flag Smashers, also felt so very scripted. I was very aware I was watching a TV show.

Best part of the episode was the opening fight, and Wyatt Russell deserves an Emmy for his acting. But after the fight was over, it didn't make sense for Bucky to immediately walk away from Sam, nor for Sam to allow himself an elongated emotional moment with the shield, right in front of Walker, given that they didn't know for sure that Walker wasn't going to get right back up again.

I've had to suspend my disbelief way too often with this show.

Even so, last week sure was incredible.

Sigh.
