Yoshihiro Togashi will go down in history as one of the most underrated mangaka ever. He had a glorious career but never reached his peak due to his recurring back pain. In the early 1990s, Yu Yu Hakusho was a pretty popular anime, but due to back pain, Togashi sensei had to wrap up his manga hurriedly, thus ending on a different note than he desired.
Hunter x Hunter almost reached the same popularity as the Big Three of anime. Unfortunately, it also suffered the same fate. Gon Freecs’ journey is most likely to remain unfinished. Fans can doubt whether he will reach the end of his journey, but they cannot doubt that he is Ging Freecs’ son. In an interview, Yoshihiro Togashi confirmed a horrifying aspect about Hunter x Hunter’s protagonist.

Hunter x Hunter never followed any morals as such. Yoshihiro Togashi always did what was best for his magnum opus, and he felt that including a moral code with the protagonist would make it like any other Shonen Jump series. Hunter x Hunter follows the journey of a young boy named Gon Freecs, who sets out on a journey to become a hunter and find his father, Ging Freecs.
Gon’s journey took several turns as he made new friends as well as enemies. Yoshihiro Togashi never doubted his protagonist and their decision to change Gon proved to be a massive step for the anime’s popularity. Even popular names like Naruto and One Piece were left behind by Hunter x Hunter after the latter discarded the concept of ‘right proper lad.’

Contains spoilers for Pieces of Her episodes one to four
Netflix’s thriller Pieces of Her is based on a novel by the aptly named best selling author Karin Slaughter. Though it’s set in America, the whole of the series was shot in Australia with the majority of filming taking place in 2021, and many of the cast are Antipodeans and Brits as well as Americans.
It’s a twisty tale of a mother who carries out an act of bravery which suddenly exposes her to a world she had long since left behind, and a daughter who discovers she really doesn’t know her mum at all. Pay attention! But in case you’re distracted by the niggling sense of ‘where do a recognise them from?’ we’re here to remind you.

Netflix has released the trailer for their Star Trek-inspired episode from Black Mirror Season 4. It's called "U.S.S. Callister" and it's the episode that a lot of people are excited about. This definitely looks like it's going to be an interesting episode as it looks like a full-on comedic Star Trek parody. But with this being part of the Black Mirror series, we know that there is something more dark and sinister underneath what we are seeing in this trailer. Here's a brief plot summary:
Join Captain Daly and his trusty crew as they explore the galaxy and the dangers of unknown alien planets.
“USS Callister” was directed by Toby Haynes (Dr Who, Sherlock) and stars Jesse Plemons (Black Mass, Fargo), Cristin Milioti (The Wolf of Wall Street, Fargo), Jimmi Simpson (Westworld, House of Cards), and Michaela Coel (Chewing Gum, Monsters: Dark Continent).

‘Black Mirror‘ is a show that I absolutely love. In what is the closest thing to a modern day ‘Twilight Zone‘, creator/show runner Charlie Booker‘s hypnotic series has managed to captivate audiences in it’s first three seasons. The show – which was originally aired on BBC – was expanded to a six episode format after Netflix picked up the show for it’s third, and now fourth season, and is highly anticipated to say the least.
Season 3 was backed by some incredible talent, and based on the trailer for season 4, this trend seems to be continuing. In particular, this upcoming season provides a hefty dose of talent in the director’s chair that includes: Jodie Foster, John Hillcoat (The Road, Lawless), David Slade (Hannibal), Colm McCarthy(Peaky Blinders) and Toby Haynes (Dr Who), Tim Van Patten(The Sopranos, Game of Thrones, Boardwalk Empire).

If you're a fan of Black Mirror drop what you're doing and watch the first teaser trailer for Season 4 now! Hell, it looks like there's a Star Trek inspired episode! The promo basically gives us the titles of the episodes in Season 4 and offers a little snippet of footage from each one. I'm definitely intrigued by what I'm seeing! It looks like we've got a great new season of greatness ahead of us.
Black Mirror taps into the collective unease of the modern world, with each standalone episode delivering a sharp, suspenseful tale of the myriad of ways technology has transformed all aspects of human life — in every home, on every desk, in every palm; on a plasma screen, monitor or Smartphone.

Fede Alvarez was reminded of the babe. What babe? The babe with the power. What power? The power of the voodoo. Who do? You do. What? If you're actually confused right now, you might not be familiar with the 1986 fantasy classic Labyrinth. Those are lyrics to the start of a song sung by David Bowie in the movie. Well, except the Fede Alvarez part. He's a new addition. To the property, anyway. According to The Hollywood Reporter, a sequel of sorts is in development to be helmed by Alvarez, who is best known for directing the Evil Dead reboot and last year's hit thriller Don't Breathe. He will actually co-write the follow-up, too, with Jay Basu (Monsters: Dark Continent), meaning they're either taking over from Nicole Perlman...

Soon after the death of music legend David Bowie, it was revealed that TriStar was planning to reboot Labyrinth, a film that had been the cornerstone of many a childhood for the past few decades. Directed by Jim Henson, the film starred Bowie as Jareth, the Goblin King.
To many fans, this was a reveal that was in poor taste, as it seemed like the studio was trying to capitalize on Bowie’s passing. However, Nicole Perlman, one of the film’s writers, stated that they had started talking about this film as early as 2014. She also stated that it would not be a “reboot,” implying that it would be more of a continuation, which is what we’re here to talk about today.
Deadline is now reporting that Don’t Breathe helmer Fede Alvarez is set to direct this Labyrinth film, and that Monsters: Dark Continent writer Jay Basu will be penning the script.

How would you program this year's newest, most interesting films into double features with movies of the past you saw in 2015?Looking back over the year at what films moved and impressed us, it is clear that watching old films is a crucial part of making new films meaningful. Thus, the annual tradition of our end of year poll, which calls upon our writers to pick both a new and an old film: they were challenged to choose a new film they saw in 2015—in theatres or at a festival—and creatively pair it with an old film they also saw in 2015 to create a unique double feature. All the contributors were given the option to write some text explaining their 2015 fantasy double feature. What's more, each writer was given the option to list more pairings, with or without explanation, as further imaginative film programming we'd be lucky to catch...

Latest update: Uncharted delayed.
In the years since Den Of Geek first sprung into existence, we’ve consistently kept an eye on the videogames that have been touted for the big screen treatment. We’ve tried to list them all in a big article a few times before, and it feels like the time has come to pull a new version together.
If we haven’t heard anything about a certain videogame movie in two years or more, it seems safe to assume that it’s quietly been binned. That’s why you won’t find the likes of BioShock, Devil May Cry, Far Cry, Gears Of War, Halo, Heavy Rain and Rollercoaster Tycoon on this list. If we get proven wrong on any of those, we’ll update this article as more information comes to light.

I’m “biast” (con): nothing
(what is this about? see my critic’s minifesto)
You haven’t seen a movie like this before. Even a wild label like “revisionist feminist postapocalyptic historical western home-invasion horror drama” doesn’t quite do it justice. The Keeping Room is a thrilling experience in how it defies categorization even as it pulls in bits and pieces from various genres in a way that shakes them all up, and in how it finds a fresh perspective on a scenario that is familiar in many of its aspects via the simple yet radical approach of telling its tale through the eyes of women.
This isn’t quite a western: we are not on the untamed frontier but,...

Ray Winstone ("The Departed), Michael Smiley ("Kill List") and Johnny Harris ("Monsters: Dark Continent") have joined an untitled British boxing drama project set up at Independent and BBC Films.
Thomas Napper helms the project in which Harris will play a man at the end of his rope who turns to his childhood boxing club and the only family he has left - gym owner Bill (Winstone) and cornerman Eddie (Smiley). Back in training, he will risk his life to stand tall and regain his place in the world.
The project is based on the experiences of Harris who penned the script. The Jam frontman Paul Weller is set to score the feature (his first) and filming begins February/March.

It was probably inevitable that a critical and commercial success like Monsters would spawn a sequel. The general concern upon announcement was that it would fail to live up to the spirit of the original film, and would become just another generic alien shoot ‘em up. There was also a concern that there isn’t really an obvious way to continue the story in the original film. Monsters: Dark Continent - note the lack of a numeric designation in the film’s title — doesn’t really try to be a direct sequel. It’s a second offering in the universe created by the original film, and if the first film was a romance or road trip set against the backdrop of mysterious alien creatures,...

Director: Tom Green. Writers: Tom Green and Jay Basu. Cast: Johnny Harris, Sam Keeley, Joe Dempsie, Parker Sawyers. Monsters: Dark Continent is the sequel to Gareth Edwards' 2010 film, Monsters. The sequel takes place ten years after the first, when the threat has reached a global scale. The only thing the two films share is the fact that the monsters themselves play a minor role, and that they lack entertainment value. Other than that, the two films are essentially unrelated. In Dark Continent, writer/director Tom Green (not of "The Tom Green Show") revolves his story around a group of infantile roughneck soldiers from the ruins of Detroit who have been recruited to head to the Middle East for a special mission. Unfortunately, Green's own mission is not clear—is this a sci-fi action flick, a creature-feature, or a war film? Whatever the case, neither was executed well. Furthermore, the...

Jupiter Ascending Like pretty much everything from the Wachowskis as of late, the word "ambitious" applies, but the end result is not so good.
Focus Another new release and another movie I gave a "D+" review. Will Smith and Margot Robbie will be reteaming on Suicide Squad, let's hope the end result is better than Focus.
The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water I didn't see it, though I'll admit to a couple chuckles seeing the trailers for this new release on TV.
McFarland, USA Another one I didn't see, looked like your standard, inspirational feature. This isn't to say it's probably bad, but just a movie that didn't necessarily inspire me to make a trip to the theater.
The Wire: The Complete Series I received this set about two or three weeks ago and have been making my way through. It's my first time seeing "The Wire" and, unsurprisingly,...

The first week of June is looking to be excellent for those horror and sci-fi fans looking to add some new titles to their home entertainment collections. Two great cult classics—Scarecrows and Wolfen—are coming to high-definition, and we have Monsters: Dark Continent to look forward to as well. Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead’s genre-bending Spring is coming to DVD and Blu-ray (the latter being a Best Buy exclusive) and, for those of you waiting for WolfCop on Blu-ray, you’ll finally be able to bring the furry fiend home in HD.
A bevy of indie horror movies are also making their way onto DVD this week and the Wachowski’s Jupiter Ascending is arriving on 3D Blu-ray and standard DVD for those of you who may have missed the sci-fi actioner in theaters. And for all you Pitchfork fans out there, Hayride 2 will also be available on Tuesday.

There is very little to discuss in terms of new releases this week, especially since I haven't seen the two new Costa-Gravas titles or Rainer Werner Fassbinder title from Criterion, which lead off the "Even More" section below. I have, however, updated the upcoming release schedule with several new titles including Ex Machina, the "Rogue Cut" of X-Men: Days of Future Past, Insurgent and Slow West. Hopefully there's something that catches your eye. The Loft I never saw this, but the way Universal treated it pretty much said all I needed to know. Then I talked to someone that did see it and I know to stay away for good.
Seventh Son This one I did see and it is quite the trainwreck.

They've entertained millions with their 5 live film review show and Wittertainment podcast off-shoot, but now Mark Kermode and Simon Mayo are in full-vision thanks to new online offering The Film Thing.
Available through the duo's YouTube channel and the BBC website, the first episode of The Film Thing brings Kermode and Mayo's movie debates to the screen with reviews of Unfriended, Two By Two, Monsters: Dark Continent and Far from the Madding Crowd.
The 23-minute show also features a cameo appearance from Jason Isaacs*, Countdown's Susie Dent explaining Wittertainment term 'Brechtian Alienation Device' and an extended interview with Carey Mulligan.
The Film Thing is made by Somethin' Else, who also produce the 5 live show and the podcast.
Somethin' Else CEO and Film Thing exec producer Jez Nelson told Digital Spy that the format is an "extension of the podcast", and serves as a one-off to test the water for a longer series.

Titled "Southside With You" - I suppose referring to South Side, Chicago, home to some of the most significant figures in the history of American politics, including Obama - the project is being pitched as a "Before Sunset"-style type of movie (in short, man, woman, lots of mostly profound conversation over a period of time), which will take place entirely in one day during the summer of...

Giant alien creatures spread to the Middle East in the sequel Monsters: Dark Continent. Here's Ryan's review...
Giant bioluminescent space creatures dominated the horizon but not the plot in Gareth Edwards’ breakthrough film, Monsters. Shot run-and-gun style by Edwards and a tiny crew, Monsters was an unusual blend of road-trip drama with light touches of sci-fi; its focus was the growing friendship between a photograph journalist (Scoot McNairy) and his boss's daughter (Whitney Able) travelling across a Central America ravaged not so much by the title’s Lovecraftian kaiju but by a military intent on keeping them well away from American soil.
Monsters’ success saw Edwards move to Hollywood, where he’s so far headlined the daddy of all kaiju movies, Godzilla, and now set to head up another pop culture giant - the Star Wars spin-off, Rogue One. This left production company Vertigo with a potential franchise on its hands,...

With Monsters: Dark Continent out in UK cinemas this weekend, director Tom Green talks to us about filming in the desert, Misfits and more.
In 2010, British director Gareth Edwards made a huge splash with his feature debut Monsters, a road trip drama with giant monsters stalking around in the background. It was an atmospheric movie that made ingenious use of its low budget; Monsters' success led to Edwards departing for Hollywood, where coveted franchises like Godzilla and Star Wars awaited.
Five years later, and director Tom Green brings us Monsters: Dark Continent, an entirely new story set in the same world as the first movie. A decade after a Nasa probe crashed in Mexico, bringing the giant monsters to Earth, their lumbering threat has spread to the Middle East. The Us Airforce is dispatched to bomb the creatures to prevent their spread, while on the ground, American troops try...

Even grading on the “Women exist only to support men’s stories” curve, women are treated abysmally here.
Click here for the ongoing ranking of 2015’s films for female representation.
Note: This is not a “review” of Monsters: Dark Continent! It is simply an examination of how well or how poorly it represents women. (A movie that represents women well can still be a terrible film; a movie that represents women poorly can still be a great film.) Read my review of Monsters: Dark Continent.
See the full rating criteria. (Criteria that do not apply to this film have been deleted in this rating for maximum readability.)
This rating is brought to you without paywall restrictions by my generous Kickstarter supporters. If you missed out on the Kickstarter and would like to support this project, you may:

Suffers from a terrible case of cinematic aphasia. Clearly thinks it’s saying something important and deep, but makes no damn sense at all. I’m “biast” (pro): loved the first movie
I’m “biast” (con): nothing
(what is this about? see my critic’s minifesto)
Congratulations to Monsters: Dark Continent for making history with perhaps the worst case ever of cinematic aphasia. This is a film that clearly thinks it’s saying something important and deep, but it makes no damn sense at all. The scenes and the dialogue and the plot and the subtext (which bits I can guess at): none of them connect up in any meaningful way, not on a small scale and not in the big picture. None of it communicates anything other than the fact that director and cowriter (with Jay Basu: Fast Girls) Tom Green (British TV director, not...

Before he helmed 2014's Godzilla, Gareth Edwards wrote and directed the 2010 cult film, Monsters. A character-driven love story with its titular alien entities effectively placed in the background for most of the movie's runtime, Monsters takes a unique approach to the creature feature subgenre, as does its sequel, Monsters: Dark Continent. With the follow-up film to Monsters now out in theaters and available on VOD from RADiUS, we had a chance to talk with the movie's co-writer and director, Tom Green, who discussed shooting in the Jordanian desert, realistically portraying military life, the large potential of the Monsters franchise, and much more.
Reminiscent of real life recent events (minus the creatures), Monsters: Dark Continent follows an American Army unit fighting both humans and monsters in the sands of the Middle East. The result is a gut-punch of a picture that unflinchingly explores the horrors of combat, the haunting psychological effects of war,...
