Twenty years ago this month, the fairy tale-like romantic comedy “13 Going on 30” starring Jennifer Garner made its way into cinemas. The actress played Jenna Rink, a socially awkward soon-to-be 13-year-old who quickly realizes that she “hates being 13.” She makes a birthday wish to be “thirty, flirty and thriving.” With the little help of some wishing dust, she wakes up the next morning to discover that her wish has come true.
It was a defining moment in Garner’s early career. Her role as Sydney Bristow in the television action thriller series “Alias” had made her a breakout star (including at awards shows) just a few years earlier. She won the Golden Globe for Best Drama Actress in 2002 and had competed again in 2003 and earlier in 2004. She had also been nominated for two Emmy Awards one Screen Actors Guild trophy.

American Pie still remains one of the greatest movies of the 1990s, having premiered right at the tail end of the decade in 1999. It’s known mostly for its silly humor and cast members who absolutely nailed their roles. Seann William Scott, who played Steve Stifler in the film, was just one example of an excellent casting, but if you thought he made millions from the role, think again: Stifler recently revealed just how much of a paycheck he took home for his acting, and it’s not at all what you probably thought.
Jason Biggs (left) and Seann William Scott | Eduardo Parra/WireImage Steve Stifler only made ‘less than $8,000’ for ‘American Pie’
These days, we often hear about movie stars raking in millions of dollars for their big-screen appearances; people like Tom Cruise are often guaranteed upward of $20 million to appear in a film. But such was not the case for Steve Stifler,...

In the year 2000, two of the big rising names in teen movies partnered up for a stoner buddy comedy in the vein of Bill & Ted and Dumb and Dumber. Ashton Kutcher, hot off the popularity of That 70’s Show, and American Pie‘s scene-stealing star Seann William Scott, would play the simple-minded but lovable Jesse and Chester in Dude, Where’s My Car? In Dude, Where’s My Car?, the duo would embark on a mystery after one morning, they discover their car is missing.
Seann William Scott is currently making a villainous turn in the horror film The Wrath of Becky, and the star sits down to talk the film with ScreenRant when he’s asked about what happened to a sequel to Dude, Where’s my Car? and if there could still be a chance of one.
Scott replies,

The Walt Disney Company has been synonymous with animation ever since Mickey Mouse's debut in 1928's "Steamboat Willie." Almost 100 years later and Disney is not so much a little mouse but an enormous whale lunging through the media landscape and devouring properties such as Marvel, Pixar, and 20th Century Studios.Disney's holdings are so vast that its catalog ranges from "Bambi" and "A Bug's Life" to "Predator," "Die Hard," "Family Guy," and "The Simpsons," but that doesn't mean the company hasn't tripped up. On the contrary -- many Disney films have been financial blunders, even beloved works such as "Pinocchio," the initial failure of which caused Walt Disney to be, according to his friend and colleague Joe Grant, "very, very depressed."
The fortunes of "Pinocchio" have changed since its release in 1940 -- numerous rereleases pulled its lifetime grosses to over $120 million -- but that can't be said of other Disney productions.

It’s April 20th, and that means it’s the holiday for all marijuana smokers and consumers, 4/20!
Who would have guessed that a ritual between high schoolers would become a national and nearly-global celebration? Four-twenty and the Thc-carrying plant itself have impacted many aspects of society, including the entertainment industry. The widespread love and culture of marijuana became so influential that Hollywood gave movies centered on weed its own genre called “stoner movies.”
From Dave Chappelle’s “Half Baked” to the Ashton Kutcher-led “Dude, Where’s My Car?” here’s a list of stoner movies that should be high on your watch list…whether you’re high watching or just want to watch a movie about folks being high.

Ashton Kutcher wears a lot of hats these days. He’s a producer, entrepreneur, husband, and father. But most know him for his acting in comedies like That 70s Show and Two and a Half Men. His latest film Your Place or Mine is currently streaming on Netflix. Actor Ashton Kutcher was desperate to “reclaim his health” after losing his vision when he was diagnosed with a rare autoimmune disease. The 44-year-old star waged a year-long battle with the autoimmune disease vasculitis in 2019 which left him unable to see, hear or walk and explained that he just “woke up one day” with an array of problems, reports femalefirst.co.uk.
He said: “I woke up one day and was having vision issues, could hardly see. Knocked out my hearing, which threw off my equilibrium, my balance and I couldn’t walk. I had vasculitis that you’re very well aware. There’s a standard you become accustomed to in your life, like being able to see clearly. And then suddenly you can’t see, like you have this occlusion, and you can’t see. And then, like, ‘Why are you not f****** talking louder because I can’t hear you?...

Because no media story of the ’90s is complete without a streaming documentary about it, a docuseries examining a court case over an infamous Pepsi commercial is heading to Netflix. Four-part docuseries “Pepsi, Where’s My Jet?” will touch down onto the streamer November 17.
The series, which cheekily takes its name from stoner comedy “Dude, Where’s My Car?,” revolves around John Leonard, a college student who, in 1996, went on an ambitious quest to obtain 7 million “Pepsi Points,” a loyalty program that offered merchandise for customers who bought enough Pepsi cans. In a commercial for the program, Pepsi advertised that 7 million points (equivalent to about 4.3 million in Pepsi cases) could be redeemed for an Av-8 Harrier II jet.
The Coke competitor made it even easier via some fine print in the catalog that allowed one to buy Pepsi Points for just 10 cents apiece. In this case, 15 legitimate Pepsi Points plus a...

October is here, which means a bevy of new titles available to watch on HBO and HBO Max. First and foremost, however, we have the highly anticipated “The White Lotus” Season 2, which debuts on Oct. 30 on HBO and will be streaming on HBO Max at the same time. New location, new characters (save for Jennifer Coolidge from Season 1), same music.
Also new this month is the docuseries follow-up “The Vow: Part Two,” further exploring the inner sanctum of Nxivm, which debuts on Oct. 17 on HBO and is streaming on HBO Max the same night. There’s also “Avenue 5” Season 2 on Oct. 10 and the new Chip and Joanna Gaines series “Fixer Upper: The Castle” on Oct. 14 (that one will also debut on Magnolia Network and discovery+ at the same time).
Other noteworthy additions this month include library titles like “Nightcrawler,” “The Witch,” “Terms of Endearment” and the underseen comedy gem “Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping.

Things are going pretty, pretty well for HBO and HBO Max at the moment thanks to the smashing success of Game of Thrones prequel House of the Dragon. With its list of new releases for October 2022 though, HBO Max appears ready to up the ante even more.
The headlining title on HBO Max this month is undoubtedly The White Lotus season 2 on Oct. 30. Mike White’s freshly-Emmy-winning comedy looked to be a one-off after season 1. But cooler heads prevailed and the series is now returning in an anthology format. What will season 2 look like? Guess we’ll find out when the show checks in to Sicily later this month.
Aside from The White Lotus, HBO also has a few other TV shows of note this month. The torturously titled Pennyworth: The Origin of Batman’s Butler debuts its third season on Oct. 6. That will be followed by Avenue 5 season 2 on Oct.

Two is the magic number when it comes to Prime Video’s list of new releases for July 2022. While Amazon’s streamer is bringing many library titles to the mix this month, it has two original TV shows and two original movies of note.
Prime Video kicks off the month with The Terminal List on July 1. Though everything about that name screams “Movie” to me for some reason, the Chris Pratt-starring action property is actually a series. Pratt will portray James Reece, a Navy Seal who returns home after his team is ambushed on a covert mission only to discover that the threat might still persist. Then Prime Video closes out the month with Paper Girls on July 29. This adaptation of a Brian K. Vaughan comic is a sci-fi yarn about a group of young paper delivery girls confronting a temporal anomaly.

There are diverse streaming releases slates and then there is Hulu’s list of new releases for May 2022. There are no big franchises here, no big themes – just a whole bunch of original and library titles for everyone to enjoy.
Hulu’s major original releases in May come in the middle of the month. Candy premieres on May 9 and stars Jessica Biel as your friendly neighborhood axe murderer. If that sounds a bit outlandish, bear in mind that this limited series is based on the real life story of Candy Montgomery and her victim, the tragically named Betty Gore. On May 15, Hulu will play host to Conversations with Friends. This is the latest adaptation of the works of Sally Rooney. After the breakaway success of Normal People, Hulu is undoubtedly hoping for more lightning in a bottle.

Quentin Dupieux, also known in some circles by his musical stage name of Mr. Oizo, has a cult following for his deadpan, dry-as-a-bone comedies about oddball corners of humanity. They’ve so far included films like “Rubber,” “Reality,” and most recently “Deerskin.” Now he’s back with “Mandibles,” a droll lowlife comedy about two simple-minded friends who discover a giant fly in the trunk of a car and decide to domesticate it to earn money. The cast includes Gregoire Ludig, David Marsais, Adele Exarchopoulos (in a reportedly scene-stealing role as a brain-damaged woman who can only speak at screaming volume), India Hair, Romeo Elvis, Coralie Russier, and Bruno Lochet. Dupieux also wrote the film in addition to directing it.

While the first day of spring technically belongs to March, everyone knows that it kicks into high gear in April. To celebrate the changing of the seasons, Hulu is finally bringing back its signature original series for April 2021.
Season 4 of the multiple Emmy award-winning The Handmaid’s Tale premieres on April 28. It’s been awhile since we’ve seen June and her dystopian world. In fact, it’s been so long that our own world decided to endure its own dystopian pandemic in the meantime. Hopefully this series’ return will mean we can keep our political and social collapses on television where they belong.
Aside from The Handmaid’s Tale, Hulu isn’t brining much else to the table in terms of originals this month. Thankfully, the one other original that Hulu has in store for April sounds completely righteous. Sasquatch, the latest docuseries from the Duplass brothers producing team, will cover exactly what the title promises.

If you thought the Dardenne brothers were the only game in town when it comes to fraternal auteur duos making unvarnished studies of life on the skids in working-class Belgium, newcomers Harpo and Lenny Guit have at least one surprise in store for you. If you’re thinking of the Dardenne brothers at all, however, the Guits’ blithely grotesque debut feature “Mother Schmuckers” will likely deliver several more.
Attempting to bring a stinky shot of John Waters recklessness to a national cinema that has rarely behaved this badly since “Man Bites Dog,” this mayonnaise-dipped gross-out exercise references “Pink Flamingos” straight off the bat with its opening scene of two adult brothers cooking up a fecal feast in the kitchen. Yet as it hobbles along from one knowingly stupid setpiece to the next, “Mother Schmuckers” mellows out into something more akin to “Dude, Where’s My Car?” — if “mellow” is the word...

Between the tail end of the 1990s and the beginning of the 2000s, moviegoers had a high tolerance for pairs of male friends with more breezy optimism than brains. These dopey man-children included Wayne and Garth in “Wayne’s World”, Lloyd and Harry in “Dumb and Dumber”, and two happy-go-lucky doofuses called Bill and Ted, Jules and Vincent in “Pulp Fiction” (a more dangerous species of this genus), and “Romy and Michelle’s High School Reunion” as the female alternative. The idiots played by Ashton Kutcher and Seann William Scott in “Dude, Where’s My Car?” killed off the trend in 2000 — temporarily, at least.
Now two such dumb chums return in a meandering and often hilarious lowlife comedy written, directed, shot, and edited by Quentin Dupieux, who made last year’s “Deerskin” with Jean Dujardin. . It lasts just 77 minutes, as “Deerskin” did, and one of its central characters is a horsefly the size of a Yorkshire Terrier.

Danny Leiner, the director of stoner comedies including “Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle” and “Dude, Where’s My Car?,” has died.
Leiner passed away late Thursday night, an individual close to Leiner told TheWrap.
Producer Ross Putman, who produced the 2014 “The Young Kieslowski” with Leiner, announced Leiner’s passing on Facebook.

The Hangover hit the jackpot over the weekend, narrowly edging out Up for the top spot. The ribald comedy had been projected to trail the Pixar adventure in Sunday's studio estimates, but was revised upward once actual grosses poured in. Hangover's Friday dominance combined with a better-than-expected Sunday haul cinched its position, despite Up soaring past it on Saturday as well as being marginally ahead on Sunday. Both pictures were highly successful for their genres and wound up less than two percent apart. Less fortunate was Land of the Lost, which debuted at a distant third. The weekend as a whole came in at $165.5 million, off six percent from the same period last year when Kung Fu Panda opened. The Hangover packed a much greater wallop than the norm for its genre, taking in $45 million on around 4,500 screens at 3,269 sites. It was hyped as the preordained raunchy comedy hit of the season,...

NEW YORK -- A video-sharing site is taking on an unusual role -- as investor, producer and marketer of an independent film starring Danny DeVito and Katey Sagal.
Vidshadow.com will produce two scenes in the film, No Place Like Home, that will feature the site and its content, and it will create an innovative online marketing campaign that seeks to build an audience and find a distributor for the film.
The deal is a potentially groundbreaking one for video-sharing sites, independent film and integrated marketing partnerships.
The indie comedy Home is being produced by Wayne Rice (Dude, Where's My Car) and was written and directed by Sam Harper, who wrote and co-wrote Just Married and Cheaper by the Dozen. It's about a father (DeVito) who in order to enjoy his retirement takes drastic measures to get his twentysomething slacker sons to move out and fend for themselves.
As part of the marketing campaign for the film, producers from Vidshadow will create 12 weekly video segments featuring footage shot during each week of filming. The segments will include interviews with talent and behind-the-scenes footage on how the movie was made, all captured by a Vidshadow crew that will shoot daily b-roll.
Starting the first week of September, the Home videos will be featured on a specially created microsite on Vidshadow.com as well as on 16,200 other Web sites that are part of Vidshadow's syndication network. Vidshadow CEO Jordan Hudgens said the goal is to have more than 10 million people view the content before the movie opens in hopes that the hype will help secure a distribution partner.

Columbia Pictures has attached Danny Leiner to direct the romantic comedy Fetch, which Jeff Lowell is writing and Neal Moritz is producing for his Original Film. Leiner most recently directed Great New Wonderful, a tale of five, interwoven stories set in New York in the wake of Sept. 11. The film, whose cast includes Maggie Gyllenhaal, Edie Falco, Tony Shalhoub and Olympia Dukakis, premiered at the recent Tribeca Film Festival. Leiner's other directing credits include Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle and Dude, Where's My Car?...
Actor Erik Aude returned home to California on Sunday after spending almost three years in a Pakistani jail for drug trafficking. The Dude, Where's My Car? star was arrested and jailed in February 2002 after Pakistani authorities found opium in the lining of a suitcase Aude believed contained leather jackets he was taking to America for a business colleague. The actor admits his jail spell was a living hell of beatings and death threats that made him realize how privileged he is as an American. He told friends, family and press at Los Angeles' Lax airport, "You really have no idea how lucky we are. As Americans we live like kings."...

LAS VEGAS -- If one were able to toss the American Pie trilogy, the John Hughes brat pack pictures and the Cheech & Chong screen oeuvre into a cultural blender and then press the pulse button a few times, the result would probably have the flavor and consistency of Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle, a blissfully silly, character-driven road movie with impressive laugh-per-minute performance specs.
Screened at the CineVegas Film Festival (and shown a day later at the Los Angeles Film Festival), this inspired entry in the generally languid stoner comedy genre is a comparative breath of fresh, if herb-scented, air.
Effectively carried by a pair of relative newcomers, the New Line release should satisfy the cravings of laugh-starved young-adult audiences and will likely hang around well past Labor Day.
Meanwhile, the folks at White Castle would be wise to ensure their burger inventories can withstand an inevitable late-summer onslaught from copycat customers.
Making like a multicultural Bill and Ted, Harold Lee (John Cho), a socially reserved, somewhat-anal accountant, and his outspoken, would-be med student roommate, Kumar Patel (Kal Penn), are, ahem, chronic overachievers when it comes to partaking of one of their favorite weekend activities.
Overcome with a particularly insistent case of the munchies while watching a seductive White Castle commercial, they rise to the challenge and embark on a nocturnal quest across the backwoods of New Jersey in search of the cute little burgers.
But the road to fast-food riches is paved with considerable peril in the form of potentially rabid raccoons, escaped cheetahs, corrupt cops, a boil-infested tow-truck driver named Freakshow (Christopher Meloni) and even a horny Doogie Howser (a funny Neil Patrick Harris).
Working from a lively script by rewrite specialists Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg that manages to find a place for animation, puppetry and some light CGI, director Danny Leiner keeps it all chugging agreeably forward, while his cast, which also includes cameos from Fred Willard, Anthony Anderson and Ryan Reynolds, join in the goofiness.
But it's Indian-American Penn, who is a welcome burst of comic energy, and Korean-American Cho, as his hapless foil, who keep the proceedings anchored in a real-world reality too-seldom represented in contemporary comedies. It's nice to see characters who are usually relegated to stock, stereotypical supporting roles finally allowed to carry the entire picture.
That alone is almost enough to forgive director Leiner for Dude, Where's My Car?
Maybe not.

Jennifer Garner will be honored as Female Star of Tomorrow at ShoWest 2004, which takes place March 22-25 in Las Vegas. A Golden Globe-winning actress for her role as a high-tech spy on ABC's Alias, Garner next stars in the comedy 13 Going on 30 from Revolution Studios and Columbia Pictures. "Jennifer Garner has already taken the world by storm on the small screen, and we can only imagine what great success lies in store as she begins to conquer the excitement and glamour of the silver screen," said Mitch Neuhauser, co-managing director of the event, in announcing the honor. In 13, directed by Gary Winick and opening April 23, Garner stars opposite Mark Ruffalo as a 13-year-old girl trapped in a woman's body. Garner's big-screen credits also include Daredevil, in which she starred opposite Ben Affleck, Pearl Harbor and Dude, Where's My Car? Her role in Alias has earned her two Emmy noms and two Golden Globe noms in addition to her 2001 Globe for best performance in a television drama. Celebrating its 30th anniversary, ShoWest is the world's largest motion picture industry convention. The 2004 edition of ShoWest will be held at Bally's and Paris hotels in Las Vegas. Founded by the National Association of Theatre Owners of California and Nevada, ShoWest is managed by the VNU Expositions Film Group, a division of VNU Business Media.
The media have already dubbed this weekend's boxoffice showdown as the Battle of the That '70s Show Stars. But despite the fact that two of that sitcom's regulars, Ashton Kutcher and Topher Grace, headline the two new wide releases, the contest is really one between vastly different genres. Kutcher's The Butterfly Effect is a spooky, time-traveling, psychological thriller, and Grace's Win a Date With Tad Hamilton! is a lighter-than-air, teen-centric romantic comedy. Kutcher is, of course, much more of a proven boxoffice commodity than Grace. Although Grace has appeared in such ensemble films as Traffic and Mona Lisa Smile, his individual appeal has yet to be tested. Kutcher can boast of the unforgettable Dude, Where's My Car? ($46.7 million) and January 2003's surprise hit Just Married ($56 million). (The August release My Boss's Daughter, which flatlined at $15.5 million, is best forgotten.) Still, it's the genre, not the stars, that may determine this weekend's returns.

I already had a pretty good career before I met my current significant other and I think I'll have a pretty good one after. I don't think it's all because of who I'm dating."...

Movie hunk Ashton Kutcher had fans in stitches in Dude, Where's My Car? - but there's no way he'll consider returning for a sequel unless it's seriously star-studded. The Hollywood heart-throb, currently dating resurrected superstar Demi Moore, made his name in sitcom That 70's Show, and then starred opposite Seann William Scott for the wacky comedy. But though reports had claimed a sequel entitled Seriously Dude, Where's My Car? was in the pipeline, Kutcher's not keen to take it to the screen. He says, "Well, if Seann's in it, I'd do it. And Brad Pitt. And Meryl Streep, Robert De Niro and Tom Cruise - and then only if it's directed by Martin Scorsese and Cameron Crowe. Actually, it's not likely at the moment."...

His feature career is just starting to take off, but Ashton Kutcher isn't giving up his day job on the Fox sitcom That '70s Show anytime soon. The actor has struck a new deal with '70s Show producer Carsey-Werner-Mandabach that will keep him on the comedy set in the Me Decade through the 2004-05 season. Kutcher already was under contract for the upcoming 2003-04 season. The new pact for the '04-'05 season is said to bump Kutcher's per-episode salary to the $250,000-$300,000 range, which puts the total value of the one-season, 25-episode deal in the $6 million-$8 million range. Kutcher has played the gullible Michael Kelso on the durable Fox series since it bowed in 1998. He's also creator/executive producer/star of MTV's latest reality sensation, the hidden-camera prankster series Punk'd. In recent months, Kutcher emerged as Hollywood's "It" dude, garnering headlines and paparazzi attention because of his budding romance with Demi Moore. But he's also in demand as a leading man in a range of features. Kutcher is attached to co-star opposite Bernie Mac in Columbia Pictures' The Dinner Party, loosely based on 1967's Guess Who's Coming to Dinner? He also is in talks to star in M. The 40-year-old Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle stunner reportedly lifted her skirt in front of the Dude, Where's My Car? hunk, 25, at the poolside event. A source tells Britain's The Sun newspaper, "Demi was pulling up her skirt to show her swimsuit. Ashton then began hugging and kissing Demi." Rapper Sean 'P Diddy' Combs - who was also at the Beverly Hills party - couldn't resist viewing the titillating spectacle, so he slid into the action by sandwiching Demi between himself and Ashton.

Following the high-profile refusals of the lead character's role in the planned trilogy of superhero movies and reports of unrest on set between director Brett Ratner and producer Jon Peters, Kutcher's views adds further strain to the troubled project. The Dude, Where's My Car? star explains, "There's a couple of things - my television show, it would interfere with the schedule. So I don't think I'm gonna do it, because I'll have to sign up for another year of the show in order to get out on time. It would just kinda set me back more than it would do for me. Also I think there's a bit of a curse behind that role - the things that have happened to people. Also, I think once you've played that role then you're just forever known as Superman. It's kind of hard to play other thing. I have a lot of other characters I'd rather play."...
