Fear Itself (DVD Review)

When a TV series whose broadcast run got nipped in the bud re-emerges on DVD in its entirety, the hope is always that it will allow for the discovery of buried treasures. This is particularly so in the case of Fear Itself, since each of its 13 episodes was helmed by a different director, and only eight got aired before NBC quietly dropped it from the schedule in summer 2008.

Lionsgate’s new four-disc set, however, reveals that Fear Itself’s best stuff actually did make it to the tube the first time around, most notably the contributions by genre faves Stuart Gordon and Larry Fessenden. You can check out our previous reviews of the original eight via these links:

Unaired Fear Itself Episodes Hitting FEARnet in September

"Fear Itself" should be pretty fresh in your minds considering it's hitting DVD soon with some very bitchin' artwork. The short-lived show was like the unofficial third season of "Masters of Horror". For various reasons it was pulled before it could run its final five episodes. FEARnet is out to fix all that.

Starting on September 2nd the final five will begin being aired. Below you'll find a synopsis of each episode and when you can tune in to see them.

Fear Itself, the unofficial 3rd season of Masters Of Horror is finally coming to DVD on September 15th courtesy of Lionsgate. And with the boxed sets release, we'll finally get to see 5 episodes that were never aired during the show's initial run on NBC. Well, we just got the exclusive word that you'll get a chance to see those 5 episodes even earlier now.

Holy Terror: The Catholic Church in Modern Horror Cinema

The Roman Catholic Church has been an inspiration for the macabre and terrifying for, well, centuries. Most recently there was a revival in interest in the religious, supernatural horror film in the early to mid 2000's in a cycle that ran from Stigmata to The Exorcism of Emily Rose.

Horror rose to prominence and box office success in the 1970's with a long running series of films peppered with deeply religious themes. The church was under scrutiny in The Omen. a willing participant in the phenomenon that was The Exorcist. Beyond the obvious possession, Antichrist, and exorcism themed ripoffs there was the unique and internationally successful Blind Dead series with this undead crusading Templar Knights.
