Protests from climate activists, against festival sponsor Uber, and against a German cinema chain took place.
A ten-minute address from Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky headlined the opening ceremony of the 73rd Berlin International Film Festival, as multiple protests took place outside the Berlinale Palast venue.
Appearing via a live video link, Zelensky made an analogy between the Berlin Wall that used to divide Potsdamer Platz, and the wall that “Russia wants to build in Ukraine – a wall between us and Europe.”
“It is not only about state borders on the map; the wall divided world views, philosophies, different realms,” said Zelensky.

Killer Collectibles highlights five of the most exciting new horror products released each and every week, from toys and apparel to artwork, records, and much more.
Here are the coolest horror collectibles unveiled this week!
Universal Monsters Bobbleheads from Neca
Neca will add four Universal Monsters to its Head Knockers line of bobbleheads in August. Priced at 34.99, Dracula, Frankenstein, Bride of Dracula, and The Wolf Man are made of hand-painted resin and stand 8″ tall.
The sculpts are pretty fun on these, although I’m not sure why the necks are comically long when Neca’s other bobbleheads don’t have that issue. The prototypes are pictured, so maybe they’ll iron that out before production.
B’Twixt Now and Sunrise: The Authentic Cut Blu-ray from Lionsgate
2011’s Twixt was an ambitious, if flawed, Gothic horror film from the great Francis Ford Coppola that failed to land with critics and audiences alike.

Authorities eventually discovered that Galloway’s slaying was linked to the sexual assault of a second woman in the area — and that both crimes bore strange similarities to those described in a crime thriller novel that the main suspect owned.
Here are five things you need to know about the case, which will be featured on the next episode of People Magazine Investigates, airing Monday night on Investigation Discovery.

Jessica Rabbit kidnapped by Nazis. Costner rescuing Princess Diana. We look back at a few strange movie sequels that were never made…
The multi-million dollar success of any movie will inevitably leave Hollywood executives clamouring for a sequel. And while there are plenty of movies whose stories are open-ended enough to warrant a return to the creative well, there are many times when coming up with a follow-up idea requires all sorts of imaginative leaps. Just look at something like Alien: Resurrection, which had to come up an elaborate reason why Ripley had (spoiler alert) managed to survive a swan-dive into a lead foundry in Alien 3.
Which brings us to this list, which is devoted to a few of the weirder sequel ideas that never made it to the big screen. An E.T. sequel in which little Elliott gets tortured by aliens? Forrest Gump dancing with Princess Diana?...

That's the question that starts any new season of Penny Dreadful, Showtime's darkly sumptuous, richly silly horror fantasy about the damned, the monstrous and the sexually alluring (which often encompasses the first two) in 19th-century London.

Mr. Hyde, presumably, will come tootling along soon, generating additional the violence and depravity – and at that point Shazad Latif's performance will lose its rather abstract gloominess. Jokers, circus masters and demonic dolls. Which TV characters terrify you? Den Of Geek asked its writers that very question…
The subconscious is a terrible place; dark, mysterious and peopled by spectres from the past. As a bit of a laugh then, we sent our writers journeying into theirs and asked them to drag out any TV terrors they found lurking in the shadows.
Some television fears had been ensconced there since childhood, others were more recent tenants. Some were morally terrifying; human beings with icy hearts capable of atrocities, others were simply… atrocities.

Part I.
1971 was an incredibly violent year for movies. That year saw, among others, Tom Laughlin’s Billy Jack, with its half-Indian hero karate-chopping rednecks; William Friedkin’s The French Connection, its dogged cops stymied by well-heeled drug runners; Stanley Kubrick’s A Clockwork Orange, banned for the copycat crimes it reportedly inspired; and Sam Peckinpah’s Straw Dogs, featuring the most controversial rape in cinema history. Every bloody shooting, sexual assault and death by penis statue reflected a world gone mad.
It seemed a reaction to America’s skyrocketing crime. Between 1963 and 1975, violent crimes tripled; riots, robberies and assassinations racked major cities. The antiwar and Civil Rights movements generated violent offshoots like the Weathermen and Black Panthers. Citizens blamed politicians like New York Mayor John Lindsay (the original “limousine liberal”), who proclaimed “Peace cannot be imposed on our cities by force of arms,” and Earl Warren’s Supreme Court,...

If you’re anything like me, you went into Monday’s Scorpion finale feeling a little skeptical.
Even though the CBS drama was taking on its most extravagant case yet, it also involved Walter clinging to life on the edge of a cliff. Never mind The Terminator and Ed-209, what about Eve, Hector or Warbeast? Here's a pick of 15 less famous killer robots from the movies...
"They say Zapp Brannigan single-handedly saved the Octillion system from a horde of rampaging killbots!" enthused Leela in classic the Futurama episode, Love's Labour's Lost In Space.

Killer robots are a longstanding staple of science fiction cinema, and if we were to compile the list of the best and most celebrated, it would probably read pretty much like everyone else's - The Terminator, 2001: A Space Odyssey and the Sentinels from X-Men: Days Of Future Past would all get a mention.

There was a moment during A Good Marriage, adapted by Stephen King from his own novella and directed by Peter Askin (Company Man), where I thought to myself, you know, I'm kind of digging this. In the aforementioned scene, gas station lights and a restaurant sign in the background provide a cool ambience as an unidentified woman walks out to her car, the screen fading in from black to reveal a noirish gray color palette. A dull, eerie piano score kicks in as the woman gets into her car and drives away, unknowingly tailed by another vehicle from which the action is captured. Unfortunately this is the opening shot of the film, and it is followed shortly by a cliched opening monologue, a generic party sequence, an uncomfortable sex scene, and some seriously hokey dialogue. I'm not sure either King or Askin had terribly lofty ambitions for the film anyway,...

Rachael returns to Haven for the eventful season 4 premiere. Here's her excited review of Fallout...
This review contains spoilers.
4.1 Fallout
Welcome back to Haven - where the news is made up and the law of physics don’t matter. We do and don’t come back exactly where we left off - with Duke in the barn, right up until he gets spit out like a cherry pit into the Boston aquarium six months later. Whoops - from magical farm structures to near drownings that land him in the hospital. Oh Duke, I love your face, and your mouthiness, and everything except your hair. It’s almost as bad as Sam Winchester’s. Cut it for all our sakes.

4.1 Fallout
Welcome back to Haven - where the news is made up and the law of physics don’t matter. At Texas Frightmare Weekend 2012, I stumbled across a little movie called Jacob (review here), and it completely blew me away. For a completely independent picture made for extremely little money, it packed an emotional punch that few mainstream horror films can pull off.
Truth be told, I've paid to see movies in the theater that display less skill and power than Jacob, and that's a damn shame, but finally someone was wise enough to pick up this gem for distribution, and as of April 16th, Jacob is out on DVD and Blu-ray for your viewing pleasure courtesy of Kino Lorber's Horizon Movies.
Jacob had a return performance at this year's Texas Frightmare Weekend to celebrate its release, and I sat down with main man Larry Carrell to chat about writing, directing, and acting in the film.
Mr. Dark: Give us the background on yourself, and what you've done so far.
