Hype can kill a great moviegoing experience. And frankly, there was a lot of hype even before I stepped into David Leitch’s take on the classic series, The Fall Guy. Thankfully, this time, it’s beyond well warranted. Starring the ridiculously charismatic Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt, this love letter to the amazing world of stuntwork shines. The action is predictably glorious – it’s David Leitch, the man excels at this – and the performances are perfection. It’s that rare cinematic treat that manages to do nearly everything well, and it works. Whether or not you are familiar with the cool as hell Lee Majors series (1981-86), you will fall for Leitch’s amazing work.
A couple of weeks back, I had the incredible chance to step onto the sound stages of Universal Studios. I was there to speak with the cast and director about their latest. First up was Mr.

A certain actor has been taking over Hollywood as of late, and his name is Glen Powell.
The actor, hailing from Austin, Texas, has a long list of credits to his name, with various appearances on television series over the years. But, he reached movie star status after starring in two of the biggest films of the last two years.
Both Top Gun: Maverick and Anyone but You were bonafide commercial hits, but they are far from the only series and movies of Mr. Powell's you'll want to add to your must-watch list.
Powell's acting career started with a small role in Spy Kids 3-D Game, and a few years later, he went on to star in The Great Debaters alongside Hollywood heavy hitters Forest Whitaker and Denzel Washington, who also directed it.
More roles would follow that, including guest stints on CSI: Miami, Rizzoli & Isles, and NCIS.

Said to be a mix of Top Gun and Back To The Future, T-Minus will be an expensive-sounding action thriller based on a Philip K Dick short story. Michael B Jordan will co-produce.
Michael B Jordan, who’s currently working with Ryan Coogler on his currently untitled horror movie, now has another major project in the works. Called T-Minus, it’ll be produced by Jordan through his company, Outlier Society, in partnership with Amazon MGM Studios.
The script will be co-written by Drew Pearce, who wrote the upcoming The Fall Guy, and Nick Cuse, writer of TV’s Watchmen and Masters Of The Air.
What’s really intriguing about T-Minus – for this writer at least – is that it’s based on a Philip K Dick short story, A Little Something For Us Tempunauts.
First published in 1974, it’s about three time travellers (the Tempunauts of the title) whose mission to...

Luca Guadagnino’s tennis relationship drama “Challengers” (Amazon MGM) opens Friday amidst chatter that it represents the rarest of films — a wide-release American sex sizzler, an erotically charged story with young actors with sexual impulses central to its plot.
The marketing forebears for “Challengers” are akin to movies that we’ve not seen in a long time like “Carnal Knowledge,” “Body Heat,” “Don’t Look Now,” and “Fatal Attraction.” These films, where sex can be sweaty and dangerous, were elevated by big stars who dared to play off their images. Other examples include Kevin Costner (“No Way Out”), Debra Winger (“An Officer and a Gentleman”), Mel Gibson and Sigourney Weaver (“The Year of Living Dangerously”), Jane Fonda (“Klute”), and Warren Beatty.
In the “Challengers” press tour, Zendaya (also a producer here) — with six of her previous seven live-action theatrical releases having domestic grosses of $100 million or more — took pains to dispel...

Glen Powell has once again denied the rumors of him being involved with his Anyone But You co-star Sydney Sweeney. However, he revealed that both of them leaned on their chemistry off the screen to promote the film. The affair speculations arose after intimate set photos of the couple were shared online and they both flirted a little bit during the promotions of the film.

Sweeney, who also co-produced the film, was involved in the marketing of the film right from the beginning. Their efforts really paid off as the film went from a modest $6 million domestic debut to becoming one of the highest-grossing R-rated romantic comedies in a long time.

The opening scenes of Pirates of the Caribbean feature Jack Sparrow jumping off his skiing boat onto the harbor. That scene alone was enough to know that the franchise was going to be something iconic.
With Johnny Depp portraying the iconic role of Capt. Jack Sparrow, the franchise enjoyed its moment in the sun with five movies to its name. In a recent interview, an actor from the Pirates franchise feels that the film will be a success, even without the presence of Johnny Depp!

When it comes to the classics of cinema—and sometimes the dregs—it’s always fun to think about what might’ve been. Casting especially can be a strange alchemy between actor and role, and when the formula is off, it’s easy to ponder whether the spell would work at all. Can you imagine Robert Redford as Michael Corleone? What about Tom Selleck as Indiana Jones? And it’s an interesting challenge to envision what Tim Burton’s Batman might’ve been if it starred Bill Murray versus Robin Williams.
The casting of Neo in The Matrix is another legendary “what if?” in movie history. The 1999 classic, which just turned 25 years old earlier this month, is now beloved for its reinvention of Keanu Reeves. He plays Neo in the film; a former sad sack hacker who discovers he’s actually a superpowered messiah sent to free us from a digital prison.

1986's "Top Gun" decidedly propelled Tom Cruise toward stardom, while the actor had already made his mark with "Risky Business" and "The Color of Money," two films that helped underline his dynamic range as a performer before his rise to fame. From this point on, Cruise would go on to star in a string of projects that cemented his superstar status, but like any performer, a few films failed to impress audiences and critics for many reasons. No, I am not talking about the disastrous "The Mummy" — the first and final entry in the doomed Dark Universe — but the lowest-rated Tom Cruise film, at least according to Rotten Tomatoes. I'm talking about Roger Donaldson's 1988 film about making drinks and money: "Cocktail," which currently sports an abysmal 9% on Rotten Tomatoes.
There is good reason for this overwhelmingly negative consensus, as "Cocktail" feels like an unsavory product of its time, what...

In case you’ve forgotten (I certainly did), Disney has been developing a Space Mountain movie based on the popular theme park attraction. It’s been a while since we last heard about the project, but THR reports that the studio has tapped Josh Appelbaum and André Nemec to pen the script.
Josh Appelbaum and André Nemec are best known for writing Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows. Plot details are being kept under wraps, but from what I understand, the Space Mountain ride doesn’t really have any memorable scenes or characters like those found in Pirates of the Caribbean, so the project could really go in any direction.

The Space Mountain movie was first announced close to four years ago, with Joby Harold (Obi-Wan Kenobi) set to write and produce.

Zack Snyder's "Watchmen," as it turns out, could have featured one of the biggest movie stars of all time -- Tom Cruise. The actor behind "Mission: Impossible" and "Top Gun," among many, many other hits, was said to be in the running for a role in the film dating back to several years before it even came out, which Snyder later personally confirmed. But now, the filmmaker has added a pretty interesting layer to the whole thing: Cruise would have starred in the movie, but he wanted to take on the role of Rorschach, which isn't exactly what Snyder had in mind.
Speaking to Josh Horowitz on the "Happy Sad Confused" podcast as part of the promotional tour for his new movie "Rebel Moon -- Part Two: The Scargiver" (which hits Netflix this weekend), Snyder touched on Cruise's potential casting in "Watchmen" all those years ago. The director explained...

Tom Cruise is easily one of the biggest Hollywood stars of all time. Even though he has been in the industry for over four decades, he is still sought after by the best directors to star in their projects. The actor himself exerts his influence too, often to bring out the best in him, and his decisions have always paid off.
However, he does not always get his way, as Zack Snyder recently revealed. The director confessed that he wanted the Mission: Impossible actor to play a certain character in one of his films, but Cruise sought a different role.

Zack Snyder is all set to release the second part of his space opera magnum opus Rebel Moon. The Netflix film is the follow-up to last year’s Chapter 1 – A Child of Fire. The filmmaker has had a busy few years after helming large-scale blockbusters such as Army of the Dead and Justice League.

The actor reportedly gave him a surprise call after the film opened big at the box office. Cruise was also reportedly Snyder’s first choice to play Ozymandias in his divisive Watchmen adaptation.

Sequels of a successful media franchise can turn out to be risky endeavors as we have witnessed in the past. The 1990s represented a golden epoch for action cinema. This was the time which saw VHS and its digitized successor DVD introduce a whole new generation of fans to the magic of stars like Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone. And those titans from the ‘80s still claimed big wins, too, at the box office and home media via the likes of Terminator 2: Judgement Day, Demolition Man, and Cliffhanger.

Top Gun was a major banner film in 1986. It catapulted Tom Cruise into the stratosphere of film stardom. Tony Scott became the go-to director for a lot of action films. The film would also make a star out of Maverick’s rival-turned-wingman, Val Kilmer. Also Jerry Bruckheimer and Don Simpson became a huge powerhouse producing team in Hollywood. Paramount had an enormous hit on their hands, but this property didn’t actually become a franchise until 2022, when after careful planning and a treatment of love, they finally gave audiences the follow-up Top Gun: Maverick, which became a massive hit at the box office.
The story of Top Gun dates back to a magazine article from May 1983 from California Magazine. The article was titled Top Guns (which sounds like the title of an upcoming sequel in the franchise), and it was written by the late author Ehud Yonay. Yonay’s family,...

Adam Wingard's monster mash movie "Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire" is first-rate hooey, and that is meant as a compliment. It rolls with its kaiju mayhem with the sugared-up enthusiasm of a wiggly eight-year-old, inserting little thoughtfulness, emotion, or meaning into the proceedings. Many years ago, Godzilla stood as a symbol for nuclear devastation, and then later, a symbol of Japanese national pride. King Kong, meanwhile, was clearly a symbol for slavery and the perpetuation of colonialist entitlement. Wingard doesn't engage with either monster, seeing them instead as giant action figures that are real real good at knockin' s*** over. These are sentiments repeated from Wingard's glorious 2021 film "Godzilla vs. Kong," the film that cracked the code on Warner Bros. ever-growing MonsterVerse movies.
As with any film to feature King Kong, "GvK" featured scenes of human pilots taking to the air to battle the encroaching titans. Because this...

A court has ruled that Paramount Studios didn’t infringe any copyright laws when it made Top Gun: Maverick.
For the past two years, Paramount Studios has been embroiled in a legal case over Top Gun: Maverick. In 2022, the family of late journalist Ehud Yonay filed a lawsuit against the studio, alleging that it had broken copyright laws when it made the highwire action sequel.
In 1983, Paramount bought the rights to Yonay’s article Top Guns, originally published in California magazine. That feature formed the basis for director Tony Scott’s Top Gun, which helped turn Tom Cruise into a superstar in 1986.
Decades later, Paramount finally embarked on a sequel, but didn’t re-acquire the rights to Yonay’s article. Yonay’s family, who owned the rights after the author passed away in 2012, filed their suit in May 2022 – a matter of weeks before Top Gun: Maverick appeared in cinemas.

Paramount Global’s beleaguered stock faltered Monday as investors fretted over the ongoing talks between controlling shareholder National Amusements Inc. and Skydance Media.
As the moon blocked out the sun across a swath of the U.S. in a total eclipse, the stock behaved accordingly, falling almost 8% on heavier-than-average trading volume to finish at $11.06. The shares, which have lost nearly half their value over the past year, retreated amid numerous reports about how a tentative deal between David Ellison’s Skydance and Shari Redstone’s National Amusements would be structured.
While Nai controls more than three-quarters of Paramount’s voting shares, it has only about 10% of the company’s equity, posing a risk of dilution for a number of other shareholders. During their 30-day exclusive negotiating window, Skydance and Nai are said to have established a framework for an all-stock transaction valued in the range of $5 billion. An initial step...

Paramount has prevailed in the lower courts in a copyright infringement case over Top Gun: Maverick.
In a decision handed down last Friday, April 5, a district judge dismissed the case, brought by the family of Ehud Yonay, a journalist whose 1983 story for California magazine, “Top Guns,” inspired the original 1986 film. At the time, Paramount secured the exclusive movie rights to the story and Yonay received a “based on” credit.

A judge has ruled that “Top Gun: Maverick” did not infringe on an article about Navy fighter pilots that inspired the original 1986 film.
Paramount bought the rights to the article, “Top Guns,” from author Ehud Yonay in May 1983. But the studio did not re-acquire the rights, which had reverted to Yonay’s widow and son, before releasing the sequel in 2022. “Top Gun: Maverick” grossed $1.5 billion at the box office.
The heirs sued, alleging that the sequel infringed on the copyright in Yonay’s original work. But in a ruling on Friday, Judge Percy Anderson found that any similarities are not protected creative expression under copyright law.
“To the extent Plaintiffs contend that the Works are similar because they depict or describe fighter pilots landing on an aircraft carrier, being shot down while flying, and carousing at a bar, those are unprotected facts, familiar stock scenes, or scènes à faire,” the judge wrote.

Paramount has prevailed in a copyright lawsuit, brought by the heirs to the author of a 1983 magazine story that inspired the original Top Gun, accusing the studio of forging ahead with the blockbuster sequel without renegotiating a new license.
U.S. District Judge Percy Anderson, in an order dismissing the case on Friday, found that several elements from the film — including plot, theme, setting and dialogue — are “largely dissimilar” from Ehud Yonay’s article. And to the extent both works revolve around a fighter pilot training school, the court concluded that any overlapping factual similarities aren’t protected by copyright law.
In a statement, copyright termination heavyweight Marc Toberoff, representing the plaintiffs, said the court’s ruling dismissing the lawsuit on summary judgment will be appealed. He added, “Once Yonay’s widow and son exercised their rights under the Copyright Act to reclaim his exhilarating Story, Paramount hand-waved them away exclaiming ‘What copyright?...

The nearly two-year old dogfight between Paramount and the family of the writer of the 1983 article that inspired the franchise is over, at least for now.
In an order released late on April 5, U.S. District Judge Percy Anderson grounded the copyright infringement, breach of contract, and declaratory relief action by the Israeli-based widow and son of Ehud Yonay
“Defendant is entitled to summary judgment on plaintiffs Shosh Yonay and Yuval Yonay’s claims for breach of contract, declaratory relief, and copyright infringement,” he wrote in a the one-page judgment in favor of Paramount Pictures (read it here). “Plaintiffs shall take nothing and Defendant shall have its costs of suit.”

Tom Cruise is renowned for his work in the action genre throughout his career. What started with Top Gun (1986), began to expand with the actor gaining widespread acclaim for performing his own risky stunts in movies, including the Mission: Impossible franchise.
Tom Cruise in a still from Mission: Impossible- Dead Reckoning
With the franchise surging past the $4 billion benchmark (as per the Numbers), thanks to its intriguing storylines, Cruise’s star power, and iconic action stunts among others, it will be quite interesting to witness what the next installment has to offer. And it seems like the actor can take inspiration from Red Bull’s daredevil stunt.
Red Bull’s A Door In The Sky Stunt!
While risky stunts are no longer a pipe dream in the entertainment world thanks to several iconic action stars and stuntpeople who are ready to face it all, Red Bull’s 2017 story was mind-blowing.

Paramount Pictures had good reason to believe Adrian Lyne's "Fatal Attraction" would be another box office smash for the hit-making studio (which had just dominated 1986 with five of the ten highest-grossing movies of that year — including the top two in "Top Gun" and "Crocodile Dundee"), but they couldn't have anticipated the film becoming a full-blown, adult-skewing blockbuster. Nevertheless, the erotic thriller about an extramarital fling that turns into a waking nightmare for the happily married Dan Gallagher (Michael Douglas) outperformed such heavy hitters as "Beverly Hills Cop II," "The Untouchables," and "Lethal Weapon" to become the second highest-grossing film of 1987 (behind the four-quadrant behemoth "Three Men and a Baby").
Why was the film such a pop cultural sensation? Every single element clicked perfectly into place. Lyne brought the sensual heat, James Dearden's screenplay tightened the screws with nerve-jangling precision, and the stars absolutely smoldered. Douglas and Glenn Close...

Lewis Hamilton is producing a Formula 1 movie with Joseph Kosinski starring Brad Pitt.
The British racing star could have worked with the filmmaker on Top Gun: Maverick had it not been for his conflicting work schedule.
In a new interview, Hamilton revealed he lobbied Tom Cruise to star in a possible Top Gun sequel before the 2022 film was made.
“I will even be a janitor,” Hamilton recalled in a GQ interview talking about his conversation with Cruise. “Just let me be in it.”
When Maverick entered the casting stage, Cruise remembered Hamilton and offered him a role as a pilot, but the racer had to decline due to his schedule, something he now regrets.

The bridge between Indian and American action cinema has unfortunately yet to be built. There are throughlines between the two industries, that's for sure; recently, Siddharth Anand's “Fighter” borrowed the luscious aesthetics and jingoistic tone of the “Top Gun” franchise, and the work of Lokesh Kanagaraj wouldn't quite be the way it is without his trusty, robust list of North American favorites. But there has yet to be a film that solidly unifies the nations with an equal balance of what makes each industries' take on high-octane thrills so heady. That is perhaps until now, with Dev Patel's American-produced, Mumbai-set one-man-army action-extravaganza “Monkey Man” that pounds its chest onto screens around the world with unparalleled levels of energy, swagger and savagery.

If you thought Lewis Hamilton’s ambitions were only about dominating the Formula One world, think again. Not only is Stevenage-born a master behind the wheel of a racing car, but he also aspires to conquer the silver screen.
During a recent GQ interview, the seven-time Formula One World Drivers’ Championship winner (joint-record) expressed a desire to focus on “film and fashion” after retiring from racing. And it now appears that his dream of co-starring in Top Gun 3 with Tom Cruise, who made his name as the hotshot pilot Maverick in the first Top Gun flick, may come true.

Apart from the aviators of the Air Force and Navy’s fighter jets, Formula One is the only sport where the athletes experience match-level speeds daily in training and on the track. Tom Cruise in a still from Top Gun: Maverick
This was an opportunity of a lifetime that anyone would’ve taken up in a heartbeat, especially when it came from a Hollywood icon. Despite this, Hamilton had to decline the offer as he wasn’t a well-trained actor, which is why he didn’t want the film to suffer because of him. But naturally, he also regretted making that decision as he wished he was better suited to be a part of the project.

Fallout is the most exciting Amazon Original dropping this month. From Westworld creators Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy, this long-awaited adaptation of the popular video game franchise looks incredible, and is bound to be a hit among video game fans and newcomers alike. The series stars Ella Purnell (Yellowjackets), Walton Goggins (The Righteous Gemstones), and Aaron Clifton Moten (Disjointed).
Prime Video doesn’t have much else in the way of original offerings this month, aside from the return of Alex Rider on Freevee a few other films and TV series, but there are plenty of popular films joining the streaming service’s library. Cloverfield, Batman & Robin, Titanic, and The Notebook are just a few of the notable movies coming to Prime this month.
Here’s everything coming to Prime Video and Freevee in April – Amazon originals are designated with an asterisk.

In the past, fans have seen many video game franchises getting adapted into a TV show or movie. These expansions are often ways to capitalize through these franchises and that’s exactly what rapper Eminem tried to do with the Grand Theft Auto video game series. During his prime years, the rapper was reportedly keen on making a movie based on the franchise with director Tony Scott after the release of Grand Theft Auto III.

Kirk Ewing, a popular name in the gaming industry, explained in a podcast how Eminem was ready to invest in this idea in the mid-2000s. However, the co-creator of the GTA series, Sam Houser, rejected the idea. After all these years, there hasn’t been much information about a GTA movie but Strauss Zelnick, the CEO of Take-Two Interactive, explained in 2019 that they could create a movie based on the...

Moviegoers had to wait 36 years between “Top Gun” and “Top Gun: Maverick,” but the third film in the franchise might be coming much sooner. Paramount announced plans to proceed with “Top Gun 3” in January 2024, with Tom Cruise expected to return alongside Glen Powell and Miles Teller.
Cruise’s busy schedule, which includes a sequel to “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning” and an untitled English language feature from Alejandro González Iñárritu, makes it unlikely that he’ll be able to start production on “Top Gun 3” in the immediate future. But according to franchise producer Jerry Bruckheimer, “Maverick” director Joseph Kosinski’s new script is coming along smoothly.
“It will be Tom Cruise,” Bruckheimer said of the hypothetical third movie in a recent interview with Screen Rant. “Tom is amazing. We spent time with him. We have a story. Joe Kosinski had a wonderful story idea for it, and he said,...

For over thirty years, I would have said that director Tony Scott’s 1986 classic Top Gun should be left as a standalone movie… but then the sequel Top Gun: Maverick came along in 2022 and turned out to be surprisingly awesome, proving that the story of Pete “Maverick” Mitchell (played by Tom Cruise in both films) was worth returning to after all. Continuing his story also paid off at the box office, with the film pulling in almost $1.5 billion at the box office. So it’s no surprise to hear that Cruise, producer Jerry Bruckheimer, Top Gun: Maverick director Joseph Kosinski, and Paramount Pictures are already moving forward with a Top Gun 3. While talking to Screen Rant about the upcoming release of his spy action comedy The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, Bruckheimer gave a small update on the sequel, saying there’s a “wonderful story idea” in place.
