In 2022, Netflix released The Grey Man, an action thriller film starring Ryan Gosling, Chris Evans, Ana de Armas, Jessica Henwick, Regé-Jean Page, Wagner Moura, Julia Butters, Dhanush (in his Hollywood debut), Alfre Woodard, and Billy Bob Thornton. The movie received mixed reviews, with critics praising the cast and action but criticizing the “clichéd script.” The movie was directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, with Joe Russo contributing to the script alongside Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely.
But, despite the mixed reviews, Netflix was seemingly satisfied with the movie as a sequel was ordered, and based on what the Russo Brothers recently said, The Grey Man sequel seems to be their top priority at this moment, although they do have a lot of upcoming projects.

Religious hysteria, family secrets and a tinge of the occult make hard times all the harder for protagonists in “Queen of Bones.” This Ontario-shot U.S. indie production is a rural gothic with echoes of both “Flowers in the Attic’s” dark YA melodrama and “Carrie’s” supernaturally vengeful coming of age. But it lacks the bold ideas and execution to approach those stories’ impact, winding up an underwhelming if watchable exploration of familiar themes and character types. Falling Forward Films plans a theatrical release for later this year, though this mild thriller would seem likelier to find an audience in home formats.
Its title oddly prefaced by “Folktales of the Great Depression…,” as if part of a series, Michael Burgner’s screenplay has a chaptered progress whose portentous divisions promise content considerably more shocking than we actually get. Quentin Tarantino has worked with a variety of actors in his career. This list of performers he’s collaborated with has also included child stars. But when it came to working with children, there were certain scenes in his own films he felt were perhaps too extreme.
Quentin Tarantino believed that movies can affect its audience Quentin Tarantino | Axelle/Bauer-Griffin/FilmMagic
Tarantino has always embraced violence in his movies. The director is not shy about being a violent filmmaker at his core. His films often involve characters in deadly shootouts or other dangerous situations that sometimes end in a lot of blood and dismembered body parts.
“As an artist, violence is part of my talent. If I start thinking about society, or what one person is doing to someone else, then I have on handcuffs,” Tarantino once said according to Channel 4.

AC Independent and The Veterans have teamed up on the film adaptation of William Sleator’s cult 1974 science fiction novel “House of Stairs.” The elevated genre movie will star Jacob Tremblay and will be directed by Wi Ding Ho, whose 2018 movie “Cities of Last Things” won a prize at Toronto in the competitive Platform section. “House of Stairs”‘s film adaptation is penned by Matthew McInerney-Lacombe (“Icbm”).
Set in a dystopian America in the near future, the high-concept film follows five 16-year-old orphans who wake up to find themselves in a strange building with no walls, no ceiling, and no floor: nothing but endless flights of stairs leading in every direction, seemingly infinite. To find an exit, the five teenagers must learn to deal with the others’ disparate personalities, the lack of privacy and comfort, their clear helplessness, and a machine that only feeds them under increasingly ominous situations.

People have strong opinions, both good and bad, about films directed by Quentin Tarantino.
Regardless of your opinion on the filmmaker, though there’s no denying his new releases demand to be seen – if only in order in order to debate whether they rank up there with Pulp Fiction (1994) or way down with The Hateful Eight (2017).
Even if viewers don't like a particular Tarantino film, there'll probably be a small part they do like, thanks to his knack for creating fantastic characters – not to mention casting the perfect people in those roles.
It's no surprise that actors including Samuel L Jackson, Uma Thurman and Leonardo DiCaprio rush to be in his films – all three of whom have delivered some of their best performances in Tarantino films.
Following news of Tarantino’s next film, which is expected to be the last before his retirement, we have ranked the director’s 30 greatest characters.

Steven Spielberg brings movie buffs behind the scenes of his life — and the upbringing that sparked his passion for filmmaking — in The Fabelmans, the Oscar-nominated drama he co-wrote with Tony Kushner.
The Fabelmans “is the first coming-of-age story I’ve ever told,” the 75-year-old director told The Hollywood Reporter. It stars Mateo Zoryon Francis-DeFord and Gabriel Labelle playing Sammy Fabelman as a child and a teen, respectively; and Michelle Williams and Paul Dano as Sammy’s mother and father, Mitzi and Burt (both based on Spielberg’s own parents, who divorced when he was a child). Seth Rogen, Judd Hirsch, Jeannie Berlin, Julia Butters, Keeley Karsten and Sophia Kopera round out the cast.

As any one of his close collaborators will tell you, legendary filmmaker Steven Spielberg has another rare gift for, well, giving gifts.
“He’s thoughtful in every way,” says Michelle Williams, the Oscar-nominated star of The Fabelmans, who plays a character inspired by Spielberg’s mother. “I turned 41 on the set and he gave me a birthday cake from The Milky Way, his mother’s restaurant. There’s always beautiful meaning behind whatever he sends your way.”
Getting a cake from his mother’s shop for the woman playing his mother is a nice touch, and Williams, like many on Spielberg’s Fabelmans team, are finding out that it’s pretty much par for the course when it comes to working with him. Jeff Goldblum once confessed that when they wrapped the original Jurassic Park, Spielberg gifted the cast full-sized velociraptors.

As filmmaker Steven Speilberg’s film ‘The Fablemans’, which won Best Picture and Best Director awards at 80th Golden Globes, is all set to be released in India on February 10, Reliance Entertainment has re-released its trailer to excite the audiences.
The over-two-minutes-long trailer of the semi-autobiographical from the dream maker, which includes an homage to the Cecille DeMille film, ‘The Greatest Show on Earth’, shows a little boy’s obsession with cinema in small-town America, where Jews are still hated, and how his pianist mother takes him nearer to it.
The film is a semi-autobiographical story loosely based on Spielberg’s adolescence and first years as a filmmaker, told through an original story of the fictional Sammy Fabelman, who explores how the power of movies can help him see the truth about his dysfunctional family.

Although she’s just 13 years old, actor Julia Butters has already worked with Quentin Tarantino, Michael Bay, the Russo brothers and, most recently, Steven Spielberg. Her breakthrough came in Tarantino’s “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood,” in which she stole scenes as Trudi, a pint-sized thespian whose commitment to her craft shocks Leonardo DiCaprio’s Rick Dalton out of paycheck complacency. In Spielberg’s semi-autobiographical “The Fabelmans,” she again plays an actor, though this time a decided amateur: Reggie, protagonist Sammy’s younger sister whom he enlists to star in his adolescent filmmaking endeavors. Butters says her own approach to performing falls somewhere between the two characters.
“I’m a mixture of a bunch of different techniques,” she says. “Part of me is very serious and devoted. And part of me is there to make friends, and super excited to just be there.”

After a quiet time in Hollywood and elsewhere as celebrities and their families celebrated Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa and even Festivus, the New Year has arrived with some big bangs, especially at the 34th Annual Palm Springs International Film Festival Awards Gala, which has traditionally been the first stop on the party season ride into the Oscars (on March 12 this year). Earlier, the Rose Bowl Parade brought out “Yellowstone” breakout star and country singer Lainey Wilson riding on Louisiana’s award-winning float; and lots of beautiful people flocked to St. Barths for a Caribbean vacation and to help a worthy cause, too, at the LuisaViaRoma for Unicef Winter Gala.

After years of pandemic-necessary calendar shifts, outright cancellations, and toned-down events, awards season is back in full force. One dependably early season event that just made its triumphant return, more or less in business-as-usual mode: the Palm Springs International Film Festival’s annual Film Awards Gala.
Launching even before the Golden Globes (and following both the Gothams and the NYFCC gala), the annual event has long been considered as a friendly space for Oscar nomination frontrunners to work out their skills giving an acceptance speech in front of a large audience at the Palm Springs Convention Center — an audience that just so happens to include a sizable amount of Academy members.

Steven Spielberg focused a lens on his family history in The Fabelmans so it was fitting that Thursday’s Palm Springs Film Awards saw someone he loves like family take the stage to honor his team with a Vanguard Award.
Sally Field, who starred as Mary Todd Lincoln opposite Oscar winner Daniel Day-Lewis’ Abraham Lincoln in Spielberg’s 2012 film Lincoln, kicked off her tribute by attempting to recall the exact moment she met the filmmaker. “Somewhere in the ‘70s, I think — he’ll correct me,” Field admitted. (And Spielberg did, by revealing that their paths crossed at a party in 1968.)
The reason for their initial meeting? A potential date.

If you need a periodic reminder that Steven Spielberg is one of our greatest living filmmakers, look no further than "The Fabelmans," which /Film's Chris Evangelista raves about in his review. It could have been really easy for Spielberg to construct another half-hearted love letter to the movies, but there's so much more going on under the surface than its saccharine marketing would lead you to believe. The semi-autobiographical feature is less about how his fictional childhood counterpart grew up to become a filmmaking wizard, and more about how a gifted child builds his cinematic language around his parent's deteriorating marriage.
"The Fabelmans" is not only one of the best films of the year, but a personal favorite as well. It plays like Spielberg confronting a series of complicated feelings throughout his childhood, while on his way to becoming the blockbuster legend we know today. The film is stacked with...

Tonight’s MPTF’s telethon on Ktla raised 858,493 for Hollywood’s 101-year-old charitable organization – exceeding the 750,000 that it had targeted. Jeff Bridges, who was one of the many stars who appeared on the show, noted that the MPTF is in “dire straits” due to the extraordinary Covid expenses it’s racked up over the last three years.
MPTF said in October that it’s facing its “imminent demise” unless it raises 10 million-12 million in cash donations by the end of this year in order to meet its bank line compliance and continue ongoing operations.

The Motion Picture & Television Fund’s star-packed telethon Lights, Camera, Take Action! airs live Saturday on Ktla beginning at 7 p.m. It hopes to raise at least 750,000 to defray some of the 9 million in direct Covid expenses it’s racked up over the past three years – and to help keep more than 250 residents of the retirement village from having to move out.

This post contains spoilers for "The Fabelmans."
Steven Spielberg's semi-autobiographical film "The Fabelmans" recasts his childhood and memories through the lens of the titular family. His avatar is Sammy Fabelman (Gabriel Labelle), a kid coming of age while simultaneously learning that he has a deep love of — and aptitude for — filmmaking. Sadly, his growing obsession with cinema coincides with the breakdown of his family. As Sammy becomes more aware of the world around him, we watch his father and mother inevitably split. The film deftly handles its delicate balancing act. Overall, "The Fablemans" is an impressive feat of self-mythologizing that pushes for earnest sentimentality while letting its characters be messy and complicated.
Thanks to both the screenplay (by Spielberg and "West Side Story" collaborator Tony Kushner) and a talented cast, "The Fabelmans" is full of memorable characters who populate Sammy's world. Read on for every main character in "The Fabelmans,...

There was something particularly nerve-racking about playing a young Steven Spielberg in The Fabelmans, the director’s semi-autobiographical movie base on his own family and upbringing. For starters, star Gabriel Labelle said during an appearance at Deadline’s Contenders Film: Los Angeles awards-season event that he never actually sat down with the director to get the 411 on what Spielberg was like as a young kid.
“He didn’t really tell me anything. That made me nervous. He didn’t sit down and say ‘when I was 5….'” recalled Labelle, who was joined onstage at the DGA Theater by Judd Hirsch, who plays Uncle Boris in the Universal Pictures/Amblin film. “I had to track him down.”

Hirsch said it was actually a testament to the trust Spielberg had in his cast, which includes Michelle Williams, Paul Dano and Seth Rogen.

While streaming services take their place in the realm of the movie viewing experience, a new Steven Spielberg film is still an event picture worth going to the cinema for. Today, we have our first look at the trailer for Steven Spielberg’s latest, The Fabelmans, a semi-autobiographical tale that is positioned to be a favorite at the Academy Awards.
“Movies are a dream that you never forget,” The Fabelmans’ trailer opens. From there, we see a young boy named Sammy creating a film clip at home of a toy train crash. Next, Sammy and his family go to the movies to see The Greatest Show on Earth, which has its own spectacular train crash and is often cited as the first film Spielberg ever saw. Tired of superhero origin stories? How about a superdirector origin story instead.
"The Fabelmans," which premiered at Toronto International Film Festival this week to rapturous reviews, is Steven Spielberg's semi-autobiographical story of his own childhood and how he fell in love with making movies. Rather than being a straightforward biopic, however, Spielberg is consciously viewing his own life through a Hollywood lens. As the opening line of the first trailer for "The Fabelmans" puts it: "Movies are dreams that you never forget."
As such, there's a dreamlike quality to this first look at "The Fabelmans," which stars Gabriel Labelle as 16-year-old aspiring filmmaker Sammy Fabelman (Mateo Zoryon Francis-DeFord plays the younger version of Sammy). The cast is stacked with talent, including Paul Dano as Sammy's scientifically-minded father, Burt, and Michelle Williams as his artistic, piano-playing mother, Mitzi. Also co-starring are Seth Rogen, Judd Hirsch, Jeannie Berlin, Hadassah Fabelman, Julia Butters,...

Hours after the film had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival to largely positive reviews, Steven Spielberg has just revealed the first trailer for “The Fabelmans,” a film about his own childhood, his parents and learning to love the movies.
The film premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival on Saturday night, where Spielberg said that you shouldn’t believe the rumors that this movie marks his swan song or his retirement.
“The Fabelmans” stars Gabriel Labelle as 16-year-old aspiring filmmaker by the name Sammy Fabelman alongside his mother played by Michelle Williams and his father played by Paul Dano. While the film takes some creative liberties, Spielberg based the film quite closely on his parents and his childhood, even co-writing the screenplay with playwright and “West Side Story” screenwriter Tony Kushner.

Steven Spielberg has amassed one of the most eclectic filmographies in cinema history, with films ranging from “E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial” to “Schindler’s List.” From Civil War period pieces to sci-fi blockbusters where dinosaurs roam the Earth again, the two-time Oscar winner has tackled just about every subject imaginable. Sometimes it seems as if all that’s left to do is to make a movie about himself.
Which is exactly what he did with “The Fabelmans.” Spielberg’s latest directorial effort is a fictionalized account of his own childhood in Arizona after World War II, focusing on the formative years that led to him developing an interest in filmmaking. “The Fabelmans” is also one of the only Spielberg movies that he wrote himself, making the project even more personal for the director.

Spielberg based the film on his own early years in Arizona and co-wrote the script with “Lincoln,” “Munich” and “West Side Story” screenwriter Tony Kushner.

Spielberg introduced the film, saying, “75 years of life experience went into this.”

"You can't just love something, you also have to take care of it." Universal Pictures has revealed the first official trailer for Steven Spielberg's The Fabelmans, right after the world premiere at the 2022 Toronto Film Festival last night. This is the most personal movie that Spielberg has ever made, reflecting on the experiences that made him the filmmaker we know and love, in a story based on his childhood in Arizona. Growing up in post-World War II era Arizona, a young man named Sammy Fabelman discovers a shattering family secret and explores how the power of films can help him see the truth. No surprise, everyone at TIFF loved this. The film stars Gabriel Labelle as 16-year-old aspiring filmmaker Sammy Fabelman; Michelle Williams as his artistic mother, Mitzi; Paul Dano as his successful, scientific father, Burt; Seth Rogen as Bennie Loewy, Burt's best friend & honorary "uncle" to the Fabelman children,...

Steven Spielberg’s “The Fabelmans” earned a roaring standing ovation at the Toronto International Film Festival on Saturday, as the crowd of movie lovers cheered loudly for the Oscar-winning auteur as he made his first appearance at the gathering.
“I’m really glad we came to Toronto,” a visibly moved Spielberg said after taking the stage as the credits rolled.
The director said he was inspired by the Covid pandemic to tell his most personal story yet, a look at his early filmmaking efforts, his childhood in Arizona and Northern California, and the dissolution of his family.
“As things got worse and worse, I felt that if I was going to leave anything behind, what was the thing that I really need to resolve and unpack about my mom, my dad,” Spielberg said.
However, he reassured the crowd at TIFF that despite having made peace with his past, “The Fabelmans...

Over his nearly 50 years of filmmaking, Steven Spielberg has walked down too many red carpets to count.
From “Raiders of the Lost Ark” to “Bridge of Spies,” the legendary director’s PR-heavy vocation requires he trade in his characteristic baseball cap for a snappy suit just a few nights per year to strut his stuff in front of the press. He’s been the recognizable — if understated — centerpiece in countless iconic cast photos, boasting as many award winners as box-office dynamos.
But on Saturday night, Spielberg did something a bit new. He appeared at the Toronto International Film Festival to promote “The Fabelmans”: a semi-autobiographical coming-of-age drama that’s mainly about him.
“When we were making ‘Munich’ together 20 years ago, [Spielberg] told me the story that is the core of ‘The Fabelmans,'” screenwriter Tony Kushner told IndieWire. “I said, ‘You’re going to have to make a movie about that someday.
