With Negan’s life in his hands, Rick had a character-defining choice in front of him. By making the unilateral decision to spare Negan, Rick upheld the values his late son, Carl, championed in order to build for the future, but created conflict within his group.

Steve Michaels, whose production company Asylum Entertainment was sold to Legendary in early 2014, has bought the company back and is its sole owner, I have learned. No financial terms are being disclosed but I hear that the purchase price was lower than the more than $100 million Legendary reportedly paid for Asylum as the marketplace has changed dramatically in the past several years and Asylum, bought by Legendary’s previous regime, does not fit into the company’s new strategy.
Michaels has launched a new company, The Content Group, using the Asylum slate, staff and infrastructure as a backbone. Michaels will serve as CEO, and has named longtime associate and former Asylum executive Ryann Lauckner as president. Michaels’ longtime partner in Asylum, Jonathan Koch, will serve as chief strategic advisor as the seasoned executive continues to recover from a life-threatening illness and hand transplant.

Spike TV has given a 10-episode series order to Urban Tarzan, a half-hour show starring extreme animal handler known as “UrbanTarzan” (formerly John Brennan who legally changed his name to the one word UrbanTarzan) who rescues, captures, and relocates dangerous and exotic animals. The series, a rare venture for Spike into Animal Planet/National Geographic territory, follows UrbanTarzan as he runs the Urban Tarzan Animal Relocation team, a privately-owned exotic and dangerous animal relocation service whose missions run the gamut from capturing a deadly python on the loose in a residential neighborhood to tracking down a lion who escaped from an animal sanctuary. Urban Tarzan is produced by Asylum Entertainment and will debut on Spike in the spring of 2013. Steve Michaels and Jonathan Koch serve as executive producers. The original concept for the show was created by UrbanTarzan, Lorraine Yarde and Mark Basile.

We all know Dylan Baker as one of this generation’s finest character actors — turns in Happiness, Spider-Man 2 and 3, Trick r’ Treat are the first things that come to mind for yours truly — and now he’s extending his talents to another department. According to Variety, Baker will make his first stab at directing with the indie drama 23 Blast, a film which will star himself, Justin Long, Stephen Lang, Mark Hapka (Days at Our Lives), and Max Adler (Glee).
Written by Toni and Bram Hoover, 23 Blast centers on “a high school football star (Hapka) who’s suddenly stricken with irreversible blindness and the choice he’s forced to make regarding whether he should return to the sport.” Adler, meanwhile, plays a fellow member of the team; the other roles have not been discussed, but that great lineup has me itching to learn more. Production kicks off next month.

The PGA website provides the list. In each case I've left the full slate of nominees, and winners are bolded. I'm happy to see the excellent A Tribe Calle Quest doc, Beats, Rhymes and Life, picking up the award for best documentary. The Darryl F. hollywoodnews.com: It’s beginning to look a bit like a landslide. The Producers Guild of America is the latest group to reward Michel Hazanavicius’ “The Artist” with its year-end Best Picture honors, paving the way for what could be Oscar domination next month.
The black-and-white and predominantly silent film has been picking up top prizes throughout the season, winning Best Picture awards at the Critics’ Choice Movie Awards and the Golden Globes. On accepting the PGA distinction, producer Thomas Langmann said that when they “dreamed of making ‘The Artist,’ we knew we were dreaming of writing a love letter to American cinema.”
Oscar nominations arrive on Tuesday morning, and “The Artist” is expected to lead all films with the most nominations. It’s best to caution against landslide victories in what amounts to “the primaries.” Last year, David Fincher’s “The Social Network” did very...

The Producers Guild of America has announced their nominations for the PGA Awards and it's hard not to agree with every movie on the list. All of the ones I've seen are great films, and the ones I haven't seen I've heard are amazing. The only two on the list I haven't watched are The Artist and The Descendants, both of which I'm looking forward to seeing. I'd love Hugo or War Horse to take home the top prize though. Those were my two favorite movies of 2011. The winners will be announced on January 21st, 2012; check out the full press released with the list of nominations below and tell us what you think! What would you like to see win?
