Johnny Carson has arrived on Netflix. Or rather, a deepfake version of him has.
A scene in Jerry Seinfeld’s new movie for the streamer features the comic in a scene with Johnny Carson and Ed McMahon on a 1960s-era episode of The Tonight Show.
Unfrosted, which is Seinfeld’s directorial debut, follows the (highly fictionalized) creation of the Pop-Tart in the 1960s.
The scene in question features Seinfeld’s character, fictional Pop-Tarts mastermind Bob Cabana, appearing on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson in 1963. Since Carson passed away in 2005, creating the scene meant deepfaking Carson’s face while an actor delivered the lines in Carson’s voice. That role went to comedian Kyle Dunnigan.
In an interview with Comicbook.com, Unfrosted co-writer and producer (and former Fox late-night host) Spike Feresten revealed that Dunnigan insisted on finding new angles into a Carson impression.

For years various producers have pitched doing something like a zany It’s A Mad Mad Mad Mad World, only populated by an epic cast of contemporary comedy stars just like that Stanley Kramer supercomedy did during its time in 1963. So it is probably not a coincidence that Jerry Seinfeld selected that very year in which to set his live action filmmaking debut, Unfrosted, as a quadruple threat of star, director, co-writer, producer.
Placing it in Battle Creek, Michigan and taking the real life story of the rivalry of cereal kingpins Kellogg’s and Post in their race to create a revolutionary breakfast pastry, Seinfeld and his longtime writing partner Spike Feresten, along with their Bee Movie collaborators Andy Rubin & Barry Marder, have chosen to use some real life people, made up several others, salted it all with some basic truths, and basically let the laughs and comedy lead the way in the telling.

Steele will play the role of Deena, who is married to Mr. Birchum’s best friend Gage. The role was previously due to be played by Owens who exited The Daily Wire last month. Her exit followed clashes with co-founder Ben Shapiro over the Israel-Hamas war.

Bill Burr was in the middle of a standup set in the original room at The Comedy Cellar when his cell phone rang: It was Jerry Seinfeld. What do you do? Burr answered.
Seinfeld wanted Burr to play JFK in his Pop-Tarts (fake) origin story, “Unfrosted.” Burr immediately accepted the role — and then went back to telling jokes to the paying customers.
It was the fastest (and the most public) “yes” that Seinfeld and his writing partner Spike Feresten say they got from a tremendous ensemble comedy cast that includes Seinfeld himself, as well as Jim Gaffigan, Melissa McCarthy, Amy Poehler, Hugh Grant, Max Greenfield, Christian Slater, James Marsden, Jack McBrayer — there’s honestly just too many to list. That wasn’t always the case.

While speaking about his dating life, Dunnigan — who won an Emmy in 2015 for the song “Girl You Don’t Need Make Up,” written for Inside Amy Schumer — also broke the big news about his unique living arrangement.

Darren Criss (“The Assassination of Gianni Versace”), Aidy Bryant (“Saturday Night Live”) and Kenan Thompson (“SNL”) earned their first Emmy nominations for acting this year, but these aren’t their first nominations overall. All three of them recently contended for songwriting. And they’re far from the only ones who have crossed the threshold between music and other fields at the Emmys. Far from it.
Criss rose to fame as an actor on “Glee” before earning his first acting nomination, Best Movie/Mini Actor for playing killer Andrew Cunanan in the limited series “The Assassination of Gianni Versace.” But “Glee” is what brought him his very first Emmy recognition. He earned a nom for Best Music and Lyrics in 2015 for writing the song “This Time” from the series finale episode “Dreams Come True.” But he lost that prize to Kyle Dunnigan and Jim Roach, who wrote “Girl You Don’t...

No one loves a great scene more than the person who first dreamed it up -- the writer. We're asking iconic shows' creators and writers to tell Et all about getting to see their most cherished moment on their series make it from script to screen.
For Inside Amy Schumer co-creator and executive producer Dan Powell, it’s an Emmy-winning sketch, “Girl, You Don’t Need Makeup,” from season three. Dubbed by many as the “One Direction parody” -- for its similarities to the band’s hit song “What Makes You Beautiful” -- the sketch skewered the hypocrisy surrounding the "no makeup" movement. And what may have started as a “joke within a joke” for producer Jim Roach and the writers soon became the feminist satire of the year.
The sketch also came early in season three, which included celebrated episodes such as “Last F**kable Day” and “12 Angry Men Inside Amy Schumer.” The show itself...

The Writers Guild of America has just announced the nominations for their annual awards for Best Screenplays (by writers who are guild signatories). That’s right, before you get nervous thinking that your favorite may have been left off the list, you must remember that the WGA is the group that is not all-inclusive and leaves out several of the top contenders each year due to them not being part of the guild or not following their very specific rules. For this reason, you won’t see Inside Out, The Hateful Eight, and Ex Machina in the Original Screenplay category or Room, Brooklyn, or Anomalisa in the Adapted screenplay category.
Taking a look at what’s left over for the nominations, we find many that were expected to make a showing, including Spotlight and Bridge of Spies for Original Screenplay, though they apparently had to sink to really low depths...

Jennifer Lawrence and Amy Schumer continued to prove they have the best friendship ever on Thursday when they got on stage at the Billy Joel concert in Chicago. The duo, who almost broke the Internet when they went on vacation together earlier this Summer, danced barefoot on stage as Billy sang his classic hit "Uptown Girl." Jennifer even kissed Amy's feet before they hopped on top of the singer's piano to show off their moves. Inside Amy Schumer writer Kyle Dunnigan posted a backstage video of the moment on his Instagram. Kim Caramele, who is Amy's sister as well as a writer and producer, also shared a video of the group doing the cancan in front of the excited audience. "Thursday's with @caramelodies @amyschumer @kyledunnigan1 Oh and jlaw," she captioned one video. The Writers Guild of America announced the TV nominees for the 2015 WGA Awards on Thursday (December 4) morning and several new shows broke into the fields in a big way. And, of course, there were a number of big WGA Award nomination head-scratchers. Specifically, where the heck was FX's "Fargo"? The answer is below. Making perhaps the biggest splash was "Transparent," which earned three nominations and, since "Orange Is The New Black" earned two nods and "House of Cards" pick up one, that meant that Amazon Prime and Netflix are, at least for one award-giving organization, on equal footing as creators of original programming. The Jill Soloway-created "Transparent" is nominated for New Series, where it will go against "The Affair," "The Knick," "Silicon Valley" and "True Detective." "Transparent" and "Silicon Valley" are also up for Comedy Series, going against "Louie," "Veep" and "Orange Is The New Black." Lest you panic...

Sarah Silverman was all jokes at the Comedy Central roast of James Franco, but she has been as genuine and heartfelt as possible to discuss the death of her dog, Duck. The comedian had to put down her 19-year-old pooch on Sept. 3 due to his deteriorating health, and wrote an "obituary type thing" in his honor.
"Duck 'Doug' Silverman came into my life about 14 years ago. He was picked up by the State running through South Central with no collar, tags or chip. Nobody claimed or adopted him so a no-kill shelter took him in. That's where I found him -- at that shelter, in Van Nuys. Since then we have slept most every night together (and many lazy afternoons)," she writes on her WhoSay account. "He was a happy dog, though serene. And stoic. And he loved love."
Silverman goes on to talk about how Duck became deaf, blind...

As my Televerse cohost Simon Howell and I discussed in our Top 10 TV Series of 2013 (So Far), this has been a spectacular year for television, with many shows delivering remarkably consistent seasons (or half-seasons) of memorable, moving television. A number of series were in contention for our Top 10 but didn’t quite make the cut, often because they lacked the week-in, week-out consistency of our final picks. Here is our list of the Best of the Rest, the standout episodes of 2013 from shows that didn’t make our Top 10. With so many choices, and because we’ve seen and are drawing from different series, Simon and I are offering more personalized picks here. As with our Top 10, the list is alphabetical. –Kate Kulzick

Comedian Tig Notaro is still basking in the glow of unexpectedly tragic yet triumphant 2012, a year that saw her lose her mom and get seriously ill but also perform a legendary set that became the basis for the year’s best comedy album. With that business firmly behind her, Notaro has been writing for Amy Schumer’s new comedy central show, Inside Amy Schumer, and recording her weekly podcast, Professor Blastoff. The former debuts next week (you should definitely watch it), and the latter is hitting the road. Notaro and co-hosts Kyle Dunnigan and David Huntsberger are hitting 15 ...

Building on the cult success of Portlandia and the impending debut of cult comedian Marc Maron’s sitcom, IFC announced a development slate of 11 scripted comedies today, which cumulatively show the Network Formerly Known As The Independent Film Channel continuing its efforts to rebrand itself as Alt-Comedy Central.
The network ordered three interesting-on-paper pilots. Garfunkel & Oates stars the titular comedy-folk duo Riki Lindholme and Kate Micucci playing fictionalized versions of themselves. International Plan stars Michael Blieden and Eric Ledgin, a pair of Late Night With Jimmy Fallon writers…who play fictionalized versions of themselves. (In this case, they’re...

IFC intends to grow its comedy programming, as evidenced by the cable channel's announcement that they ordered three pilots and eight scripts for 2014.
Highlights of the announcement are a pilot built around Garfunkel & Oates, the female musical comedy duo made of up actress/musicians Riki Lindhome and Kate Micucci, and a script written by Megan Mullally ("Will & Grace," "Party Down") called "Two Idiots," about "a pair of odd women raised in an old world Beverly Hills hotel."
Lindhome and Micucci previously had a web series on HBO Go as Garfunkel & Oates.
Other highlights include a pilot from "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon" alums Michael Blieden and Eric Ledgin called "International Plan," about two friends travelling around the world looking for love; the animated pilot "Timms Industrial Piping" featuring the voice talents of Maria Bamford, Nick Kroll and John Lithgow, among others; and a script order of "Stupid Life," an adaptation...

Chicago – The voice talents of Sarah Silverman nearly steal the animated film “Wreck-It Ralph,” which opened this weekend on November 2nd. Earlier this year, Silverman brought her “Sarah’s Pro-Choice” show to The Chicago Theater, part of the “Just for Laughs Chicago” Festival.
Besides Silverman’s unique take on the current scene, comedians Natasha Leggero, Hannibal Buress, Kyle Dunnigan, Marc Maron and Reggie Watts joined in at the stand-up comedy revue.

It looks like the new sketch comedy show from Jamie Foxx and Affion Crockett is shaping up to look more and more like Fox's former hit show In Living Color.
As with the new untitled project about to premiere from Fox, the new show- like In Living Color- is casting some sketch comedy vets for their new show. We hear that the new series regulars added Erica Ash (of MadTV fame), Eric Andre, Kyle Dunnigan (of Reno 911! fame) and Dana DeLorenzo.
As we previously reported, the show is the brainchild of Foxx, Crockett and MadTV creators Fax Bahr and Adam Small. As of this writing we also discovered that the cast should be rounded out in the next couple of days.
