It’s been a while since Tubi reported its user number, but it appears the company was just making sure it was counting all of its new users correctly. The free ad-supported streaming platform has announced that it now has 74 million monthly active users, up 10 million from the 64M it reported last.
Tubi has also seen its time spent streaming increase to nearly 4 billion hours in the first half of 2023. The announcement also cites data from Nielsen which shows that Tubi accounts for 1.4% of all TV viewing time in July, which was a channels. The 1.4% of total viewing time the service claims is another example of its growth, as Tubi cracked the 1% threshold in February and has continued to gain share since. A recent survey found that one out of every three streaming users is subscribed to a free platform like Tubi, so it’s likely it’s not done growing its customer base.

Tubi, Fox’s free, advertising-supported streaming service, now has more than 74 million monthly active users.
That’s up from the 64 million reported in February. And the streaming platform, which was launched in 2014, has recorded close to 4 billion streaming hours for the first half of 2023.
As of July, Tubi also reached 1.4 percent of total TV viewing time, according to Nielsen’s most recent Gauge report. The platform became the second Fast service to break into the rankings in November 2022, following Paramount’s Pluto TV. Pluto reported more than 80 million monthly active users as of the first quarter of 2023.
“Tubi is now watched as much as a top 5 cable network, as audiences continue to embrace our digital-first, 100 percent free streaming experience,” said Anjali Sud, CEO of Tubi. “The platform continues to scale with 47 percent growth in ad revenue and 65 percent growth in total viewing time [for the company’s fourth quarter over fourth quarter], and we are executing an ambitious strategy...

Vimeo‘s longtime CEO is moving on.
Anjali Sud, who joined Vimeo in 2014 as its director of marketing and was named chief executive officer in 2017, is exiting to become CEO of Tubi.
It’s not exactly surprising Sud is going elsewhere. Vimeo, founded in 2004, has had a tough last couple of years, with a disastrous IPO leading to significant layoffs. The most recent round of cuts, in January of this year, shaved off 11% of Vimeo’s workforce. Sud called it “a very hard decision that impacts each of us deeply.”
Now, she’s moving on to Fox Corp., where she’ll take over from Tubi’s former CEO, founder Farhad Massoudi. She’ll officially start Sept. 1, and will report to Tubi Media Group CEO Paul Cheesbrough.
“We are witnessing a seismic shift in where and how content will be consumed, and I believe that Tubi can become the destination for the next generation of audiences,...

Fox Corp.’s free streaming service Tubi and Fox Sports are teaming to launch “Sports on Tubi” in the U.S.
It will feature 10 live streaming channels spanning various sports as well as almost 700 hours of on-demand programming. Brands involved in the initiative include the NFL, MLB, NASCAR, Big Ten, Concacaf soccer, the Acc and the Pac-12 Conference, though premium, top-tier events will remain on Fox, FS1 and other linear platforms. Given how central sports has been to the development of Fox Corp., the new hub will initially serve as a cross-promotional arena for the company’s offerings.
In terms of distribution, Amazon Fire TV, Roku and Android will be the initial platforms hosting “Sports on Tubi,” with others to follow.
Fox Corp. paid $440 million to acquire Tubi in a deal that closed in early 2020. The company has continued to add originals and create synergies with other Fox properties since.

Tubi, which bills itself as the “world’s largest” ad-supported video on demand (Avod) service, said it reached 25 million monthly active users as of December 2019.
Total view time on the free platform by the end of last year reached 163 million hours, the company announced in a press release, an increase of 160% over 2018 levels.
The San Francisco-based company is in expansion mode. Its headcount increased 78% in 2019 to 229 full-time employees. As it continues its international rollout — adding Mexico, the UK and other territories this year to its existing footprint in the U.S., Canada and Australia — the company said it will continue to add workers, noting that view time on its platforms outside the U.S. rose 357% in 2019.
The Avod space, which Tubi helped establish initially in the U.S. after launching in 2014, has been growing more crowded. NBCUniversal will launch an Avod tier of Peacock, its new streaming service, in April.
