Brad Pitt may have cemented his legacy of a legendary Hollywood actor back in the 1990s, but one of his outstanding roles could’ve never been his if it had been given to another actor as it’d been supposed to.
And the second candidate for the role wasn’t inferior at all — with all his experience with action films and thrillers, Denzel Washington could’ve also made a great fit.
While talking to Jamie Foxx on Grey Goose Vodka, the actor revealed that he had almost landed David Mills’ role in David Fincher’s crime thriller Seven that worthily holds the status of one of the best thrillers of the 1990s.
Washington went further with explaining the reasons for turning the script down — with the main one being that the story had seemed too demonic compared to what he would have chosen to do on the screen.

Normally, the summer movie season would kick off with a Marvel superhero movie, but this May, we’re doing things a little differently. Read on for Gold Derby’s box office preview.
This year and for the first time since the pandemic, Marvel isn’t launching the month of May. Instead, Universal jumped on the date for its new action comedy “The Fall Guy,” loosely based on the popular ’80s series starring Lee Majors. Two of the Oscar-nominated stars from last year’s blockbuster “Barbenheimer” phenom unite for this new action rom-com from filmmaker David Leitch (“Bullet Train”). Those stars, of course, are Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt, who were nominated for Greta Gerwig‘s “Barbie” and Christopher Nolan‘s Best Picture-winning “Oppenheimer,” respectively, two of the biggest movies of 2023. “The Fall Guy” premiered at the SXSW Film and TV Festival and even played at the annual exhibitors’ convention, CinemaCon,...

This year’s lineup is made of 60% of filmmakers identifying as women or non-binary. There is no denying the fact that a Quentin Tarantino film almost always sparks debates. The maverick filmmaker has carved a niche for himself with his unique brand of writing and storytelling that has won him critical and commercial acclaim. But his work has also earned him criticism for the manner in which he has chosen to execute certain sensitive narratives on screen.

In 2012, Tarantino directed Django Unchained for which he earned an Oscar for Best Original Screenplay. The film is a fictionalized narrative set during the period of African slavery in the USA. While it received a lot of praise from audiences and critics, accomplished Black filmmaker Spike Lee was harshly critical of the film for the way in which it depicted his ancestry.

In 2011, Dawn Porter arrived at Hot Docs Pitch Forum in the hopes of securing funding for her first documentary feature, “Gideon’s Army.” Thirteen years later, Porter is back in Toronto with her 10th feature doc “Luther: Never Too Much,” which opened the 31st edition of Hot Docs.
The 101-minute film about the life and career of the late R&b singer Luther Vandross made its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival in January and has since become an audience favorite on the festival circuit. In addition to serving as Hot Docs’ opening night film, the movie will also launch the Hot Doc’s Pop/ Life sidebar of films about music and musicians.

When Tony Scott died in 2012, he left behind more than a few unfinished projects, including a remake of Sam Peckinpah’s iconic Western, The Wild Bunch.
L.A. Confidential screenwriter Brian Helgeland was attached to write the script for the remake of The Wild Bunch for Tony Scott, and he spilled a few details about the project while speaking with Inverse, including that it would have been set in the modern day.
“I also wrote 45 pages of The Wild Bunch for Tony to direct before he died. Sadly, I always say that I’m still on page 45 of that project,” Helgeland said. “It’s pretty violent and set in the modern day. The plot revolves around L.A. rampart cops that were being sent to prison, but during the trial, they’re still technically free. Quentin Tarantino’s career was supposed to be concluded with an epic tenth film pretty soon, but now it’s all obscure again since the proclaimed director dashed it all to pieces canceling his upcoming movie.
Numerous speculations about the never-happening project’s creation process and its plot have never stopped circulating ever since the news broke, but one recently emerged detail will surely absorb everyone’s attention again — mostly due to the fact that it looks pretty much similar to what the MCU has been up to recently.
According to The Hollywood Reporter’s thorough investigation, Tarantino initially had at least four different ideas for his final film The Movie Critic — starting from the one that would focus on real-life movie critic Pauline Kael and then going to the expansion of Once Upon a Time in Hollywood’s universe by telling the story of Cliff Booth portrayed by Brad Pitt.

Last week, Quentin Tarantino shocked the entertainment industry by ashcanning what was to have been his 10th film, “The Movie Critic.” The two-time Oscar-winner and highly influential auteur has yet to publicly comment on why this has all gone down, but the snoops at The Hollywood Reporter have dug up some details.
For starters, there’s ample evidence of Tarantino developing something and then pulling the plug in the past. You can look at the Wikipedia entry for the man’s unrealized projects and do a whole lot of imagining. It’s just rare that something gets this far along in the process—production was due to start at the end of this year, and a tax deal had already been set up with the California Film Commission. Although no distributor was officially on board, there was an understanding that Tarantino would work again with Sony, after the successful collaboration...

When Quentin Tarantino makes a film, critics and audiences sit up and take notice. The quirky genius has carved a niche for himself with his unique brand of writing and storytelling that has won him a lot of acclaim. With his seamless blending of genres coupled with the ability to incorporate heavy dialogue with stylized entertainment, Tarantino has proved that there is no one like him in the industry.

It is apparently official: Quentin Tarantino's 10th and final film will not be "The Movie Critic." I say "apparently" because Tarantino briefly abandoned "The Hateful Eight" when the screenplay leaked to the internet, so maybe "The Movie Critic" still has a shot at going before a camera. But this feels final. It sounds like the concept got away from him, and he would've done the one thing he's talked about but avoided his entire career: he was going to make a sequel.
If The Hollywood Reporter has their story straight, "The Movie Critic" began life as a 1970s character study that was, in Tarantino's words, "based on a guy who really lived but was never really famous, and he used to write movie reviews for a porno rag" before expanding into a Hollywood yarn that involved Brad Pitt's Hollywood stuntman Cliff Booth from "Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood.

“I trust myself as a writer, I trust my process,” Quentin Tarantino declared onstage at the Adobe Max creative conference in 2016. “I never try to take anything out too soon. If I do, I realize it, and I put it back.” The acclaimed filmmaker added: “Not every film needs to be made. Not every movie should be made.”
And one of those movies that will not be made — as the world learned April 17 — is The Movie Critic, which was billed as Tarantino’s 10th and final film. The project initially focused on a writer working for a fictional porn magazine in the late 1970s and then it quietly evolved, amid a flurry of rewrites, into something resembling a spinoff of his ninth film, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood (with some potential meta twists, as we’ll explain later).

When it comes to the Marvel Cinematic Universe's approach to the multiverse on the big screen, "Spider-Man: No Way Home" is the only movie that realizes the potential of franchise crossovers between the old guard of Marvel movies and the interconnected films of Kevin Feige's Marvel Studios. That's right, not even "Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness" properly delivered on the promise of a multiverse truly full of madness, opting instead for hollow fan service, even though director Sam Raimi had fun tearing all those alternate Marvel superheroes apart at the hands of the Scarlet Witch. Quentin Tarantino loves film. Few filmmakers can boast such a wide knowledge of movies, especially the B-films and grindhouse works that have inspired his greatest cinematic accomplishments. Tarantino also loves to talk about future projects. Put those two passions together and you get a guy who often teases movies he never actually ends up making.
Of course, it’s not always talk. Many of his best movies, including Kill Bill and Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood started as ideas that he blabbed about to anyone who would listen. But while that approach builds excitement, it also sets up fans for disappointment, such as when it was revealed that he had abandoned The Movie Critic, which for months was teased as the director’s 10th and final film.
Now including The Movie Critic, here are the most intriguing Tarantino projects that never got made.

In the time leading up to the release of Spider-Man: No Way Home, it was known that Marvel Studios would be exploring the possibilities of the multiverse. After the casting news of actors like Jamie Foxx and Alfred Molina returning to reprise their roles as former Spider-Man villains, many fans went into further speculation about who else may show up. While the studio had done a pretty bang-up job of keeping the secret of Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield sealed, there was a certain leaked picture of Garfield on the set, which led to a debate of its validity as it threw fuel onto the speculation fires.
However, the rumor mill would be overrun with theories about what characters may make an appearance in the 2021 film. One obvious candidate for a rumored return was Dane DeHaan, who portrayed Harry Osborne in The Amazing Spider-Man 2. In that film, Osborne would...

Mama said knock you out! Well, LL Cool J did at least. Look, we all know egos and testosterone can be a dangerous combination in the locker room, but when you put that locker room on the set of a major motion picture, things can really blow up. And that’s just what happened during the making of Any Given Sunday, when Jamie Foxx – then trying to make a name as a dramatic actor – and LL Cool J – the hero of Deep Blue Sea – got into it, with the rapper trying to get ahead of an entirely different kind of shark.
In the Any Given Sunday scene in question, Foxx’s Willie Beaman and LL Cool J’s Julian Washington were to get into it over mishandling the ball. With tensions building apparently just from being on the same field as one other, LL Cool J reached over star Al Pacino...

You may recall that this January, Sir Elton John became the 19th person ever to win the coveted Egot by claiming his first Emmy. But what you may be less familiar with is the fact that Emma Stone can become just the 20th actress (and the 25th entertainer overall) to claim an Eggocc if she triumphs in the race for the Best Drama Actress prize at this year’s Emmy Awards for her performance in the Paramount+/Showtime series “The Curse.” Too, Robert Downey Jr. is poised to be only the sixth actor to claim an Eggocc should he take home the Emmy prize in September for Best Movie/Limited Series Supporting Actor for his work in the HBO limited series “The Sympathizer.”
What is an Eggocc, you ask? Why, it’s Emmy, Golden Globe, Oscar and Critics Choice statuettes, of course. And as just alluded to, winning all four...

Beat Shazam wasn’t the first time Foxx was on TV. He was the lead of his own sitcom, The Jamie Foxx Show, for several years before successfully transitioning into movies. Mario Van Peebles has been tapped to direct “That’ll Be the Day,” the story of how Buddy Holly and other musicians of the late 1950s helped give birth to rock ‘n’ roll and influence the wider societal and cultural landscape, including the civil rights movement.
Music has been central to much of Van Peebles’ work, from his 1991 gangster movie “New Jack City” to his work on “Wu-Tang: An American Saga,” which he co-executive produced for Hulu. Van Peebles is currently writing a musical stage tribute to his father Melvin Van Peebles, to be performed at New York City’s Lincoln Center later this year.

Spider-Man: No Way Home was an immaculate experience for fans. It was surprising, and the hammer on the nail to lift Tom Holland to an engrossing height as Spider-Man. Also, remarkably, the nostalgia the movie created fascinated Marvel fans as the movie went on to receive immense accolades from both fans and critics.

With the surprising comeback of the previous Spider-Man actors Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield creating the union of the live-action Spider-Man trio, the movie also marks the reappearances of the iconic villains. Born in 1963, Quentin Tarantino redefined independent cinema with his pulpy mix of violence, dark humor and pop culture, crafting several modern classics. But before he made history, he made a living as a video store clerk while penning spec scripts. He made his directorial debut with “Reservoir Dogs” (1992), a “Rashomon”-esque crime drama about a botched jewel heist. Two more of his scripts, “True Romance” (1993) and “Natural Born Killers” (1994), were later produced by Tony Scott and Oliver Stone, respectively.
He hit the Oscar jackpot just two years after his filmmaking debut with “Pulp Fiction” (1994), a multi-narrative, self-referential pastiche about a group of criminals whose lives intersect in surprising ways. After winning the Palme d’Or at Cannes, the indie hit went on to collect a screenwriting prize for Tarantino and Roger Avery, earning nominations in Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor (John Travolta), Best Supporting Actor (Samuel L. Sydney Sweeney’s second collaboration with director Michael Mohan, Immaculate, recently premiered at the SXSW Festival. Horror film fans are in for a treat as this film is filled with its share of blood and gore. During the filming of one of the particularly ‘bloody’ scenes, Sweeney suffered an ocular injury from fake blood flowing into her eyes. The Euphoria actress pulled off a Leonardo DiCaprio move and continued filming the scene with her hurt eyes.

2023 was a miraculous year for German actress Sandra Huller. Jurnee Smollett (“Lovecraft Country”) has joined the cast of Apple TV+’s “Firebug,” in which she’ll star opposite Taron Egerton. Smollett will play Michelle, a “rising star detective.”
“Firebug,” loosely based on true events and inspired by a podcast of the same name, stars Egerton as an “enigmatic arson investigator.” The two characters pursue two serial arsonists. Egerton is also an exec producer on the Apple original series (from Apple Studios), from creator Dennis Lehane.
Lehane also developed and executive produces “Firebug,” which reps a reunion of the team behind Apple TV+’s “Black Bird.” Other exec producers include Richard Plepler (via Eden Productions), Dan Friedkin and Bradley Thomas (through Imperative Entertainment), and Kary Antholis.
Apple points out that the series, set in the contemporary Pacific Northwest, is fictional — although it does take some of the events included in in truth.media’s “Firebug” podcast, which was hosted by Antholis,...

Kate Beckinsale has put her fans and followers into high alert, posting on Instagram this week honoring Mother’s Day in the United Kingdom. But what has caught our attention isn’t the tribute to her own mother but photos that show her in the hospital with tears in her eyes.
Here is the text Kate Beckinsale wrote in her original post: “Happy birthday and UK Mother’s Day this last week to my incredible mother. Thank you to those that love us and support us when it’s shit and try to make sure there are some bits that aren’t. And for looking after our dogs when we can’t, and lead us to remember happy things when we can’t. And turn up when we are sick and sit with us . . And send balloons and check in and pull us out of wells with love. Thank you for loving us,...

Since the Academy Awards were first handed out in 1929, only 23 Oscars have been awarded to performances given by Black actresses and actors. Hattie McDaniel made history for Black performers by winning for “Gone With the Wind” (supporting in 1939), while Sidney Poitier was the first male actor to prevail for “Lilies of the Field” (lead in 1963). Denzel Washington became the first two-time Black acting champion when he claimed victory for “Glory” (supporting in 1989) and “Training Day” (lead in 2001), with Mahershala Ali joining him years later for “Moonlight” (supporting in 2016) and “Green Book” (supporting in 2018). Halle Berry was the first, and so far only, Black Best Actress thanks to “Monster’s Ball” (2001). The acting category with the most Black winners is Best Supporting Actress, with 10 including recent champ Da’Vine Joy Randolph for “The Holdovers” (2023). Tour our photo gallery above of every Black actress and actor who won Academy Awards.
