Two decades and countless rewatches later, I'm still not sure if "Love, Actually" is a good Christmas movies or if it's just the most interesting one to talk about. If you've seen the movie — or even just been online around Christmastime in the past decade — you'll know all the familiar talking points. Fans can't believe that little kid ended up in "Game of Thrones," or that anyone could call Natalie fat. They think Laura Linney's character deserved better, but also, it's good to see a movie admitting that the holidays can be heartbreaking. The Colin Firth plot still makes romantics swoon (even though it has its faults), but Alan Rickman's character is a total snake.
Every subplot of Richard Curtis' ensemble film is worth talking about, but 21 years on, it seems clear that one gets discussed more than any other: the limply written love triangle between Andrew Lincoln's Mark,...

The Harry Potter films were absolutely magical and the cast members had a huge role in making them so. Every single character was so perfectly cast that it would often be difficult to know where the actor ends and where the character begins. From Maggie Smith’s Professor McGonagall to Emma Watson’s Hermione Granger, all these characters hold a special part in our hearts.

However, Maggie Smith once revealed that she didn’t find her role as Minerva McGonagall, the Transfiguration professor, to be satisfying. She simply didn’t feel as if she was really acting in Harry Potter as well as the historical drama, Downton Abbey. The actress also complained about having to wear huge and heavy hats for her role as Minerva.

Gary Oldman has a few regrets about playing Sirius Black in the “Harry Potter” film franchise. Oscar-winner Gary Oldman portrayed Harry’s fugitive godfather, Sirius Black, in four films, first appearing in the third Harry Potter movie, 2004’s “Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.” Gary Oldman later reprised his role in “Goblet of Fire” and “Order of the Phoenix.,” before making a final appearance in “Deathly Hallows — Part 2.”
During an interview with Josh Horowitz on the “Happy Sad Confused” podcast last year, Gary Oldman called his performance in the movies “mediocre” compared to the late Alan Rickman, who portrayed Severus Snape.

As the world eagerly anticipates a magical resurgence, Max’s Harry Potter TV series promises to cast a revitalizing charm on J.K. Rowling’s beloved Wizarding World. This comes after the spellbinding success of Warner Bros.’ eight-film juggernaut that captured our imaginations from 2001 to 2011, with Daniel Radcliffe’s portrayal of the boy wizard etching an indelible mark in cinematic history.

Gary Oldman said he did not mean to “disparage” any Harry Potter fans when he called his portrayal of Sirius Black in the film adaptations “mediocre” — he only meant to disparage himself.
“What I meant by that was, as any artist or any actor or painter, you are always hypercritical of your own work,” Oldman said when asked about his comments at a Cannes press conference promoting his new movie, Parthenope. “If you’re not, and you’re satisfied with what you’re doing — that would be death to me.

Gary Oldman has addressed some previous comments on the Harry Potter franchise whereby he called his performance as fan-favorite character Sirius Black “mediocre.”
Oldman spoke while at the Cannes press conference for Paolo Sorrentino’s Parthenope on Wednesday and wanted to ensure no fans of J.K. Rowling’s wizarding world adaptations were offended by his words.
“Not to disparage anyone out there who are fans of the Harry Potter films and the character who I think is much beloved … What I meant by that is I think as any artist, actor, painter, you are always hypercritical of your own work.
“If you’re not and you’re satisfied with what you’re doing, that would be death to me. If I had watched a performance of myself and thought: ‘My God, I’m fantastic in this,’ that would be a sad day. My best work is next year.” He attempted to clarify what he meant.

The Harry Potter franchise made worldwide stars of its main three actors, who portray Harry, Hermione and Ron. Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson seem to be in sight after the last Hp movie was released in 2011, while the fate of Rupert Grint, who played the most awkward and the youngest son of the Weasley family, is lesser known.
It turns out that after starring in Harry Potter, which was quite a challenge to Grint, he preferred to explore indie films and take the unexpectedly extravagant roles.
His first post-Potter project was the 2012 war drama Into the White, and the actor’s feisty character was definitely a far cry from Ron Weasley.
This trend continued in the 2013 biopic Cbgb, where Grint reunited with the Severus Snape actor, Alan Rickman, with them playing drastically different roles they had in Hp. Besides, that year is remarkable for the actor’s appearance in Charlie Countryman.

The decade of the 1990s can be considered the essential era of movie history, as it paved the way for all modern cinematography. We all know Tarantino and Lynch’s masterpieces, however, there are lots of films which gained unfairly less attention.
Here are 7 movies of that decade, picked by Reddit, claimed to be must-watches for all.
1. Go (1999)
Directed by the Road House filmmaker Doug Liman, this comedy thriller was considered to be even a “junior” Pulp Fiction. It tells four captivating interlinked stories over the course of one night in LA, narrated non-linearly and from several different viewpoints.
2. Sleepers (1996)
Next comes the star-studded crime drama, following a group of men, who are given a chance to perform revenge on a guard brutalizing them at a detention center. It stars such movie giants as Brad Pitt, Robert De Niro, Dustin Hoffman and Kevin Bacon.
3. Dark City (1998)

Hugh Grant is one of the most celebrated actors in Hollywood, and his perfect combination of wit and charm only makes it more understandable why. Needless to say, his very charming personality and physical features are also the reason why a lot of the roles he has donned have been in rom-coms. But even through those rom-coms, Grant has displayed quite a bit of action.

However, one time, this display of action in a similar ruthless manner as Tom Cruise almost ended up killing him. This happened in the iconic film that set him up as the King of rom-coms and is still regarded as a masterpiece, Four Weddings and a Funeral. But that isn’t the only surprising fact, because Grant was actually never the first choice to play the protagonist in that movie!

Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling felt very sorry that she had to kill off Professor Severus Snape. Played by the late Alan Rickman, Snape is a fan-favorite figure despite his stance as an anti-hero and a morally grey persona.

Hugh Grant’s remarkable ability to walk in the shoes of a hopeless romantic makes the audience swoon with every look and every dialogue that his characters convey. The British star has a lot of these characters in his old Hollywood roster to claim a credible authority over the genre of rom-coms as a whole.
However, it wasn’t until Four Weddings and a Funeral that he became the unofficial face of the charming lover boy that rom-com directors tripped head over heels for. Directed by the esteemed Richard Curtis, the 1994 film established Grant in Hollywood as the British counterpart of Tom Hanks, who was at the time equally famous for his rom-com films.

Kevin Costner starred in the title role in the 1991 blockbuster film, Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves. Costner was brutally trolled for his performance due to his accent, but the film still made huge bucks for the producers. Tom Felton has become an iconic figure through his work in the Harry Potter franchise. Playing a character that basically created the morally gray bad boy trope, his performance as Draco Malfoy is still influential. Delivering an excellent, yet incomplete arc, the part that he played in the eight films was significant, to say the least.

However, one dark fan theory about the franchise proposes the idea that Hogwarts doesn’t really exist, at least not as a safe haven for young wizards. Instead, the fan theory reimagines and recontextualizes the story as an extended metaphor for mental health issues. Alan Rickman could be an intimidating presence; by all accounts, though, he was one of the most gracious and encouraging actors in the business. But try telling that to a pre-teen who was about to star in his first movie. Yes, Daniel Radcliffe was scared stiff of Severus Snapes himself, Alan Rickman, during the making of Harry Potter.
As Radcliffe revealed on the Happy Sad Confused podcast (via Variety), “I was so intimidated by Alan Rickman [while making Harry Potter]. How can you not be by that voice? Even hearing that voice you forget quite how low it was until it echoes through you. I was so intimidated by him for the first three movies. I was terrified by him and was like, ‘This guy hates me.’” However, Radcliffe kept at his task, showing nothing but dedication to playing Harry Potter that “somewhere along the lines he saw that I really wanted to do this and work at it.

For countless fans of the romantic comedy, Hugh Grant will always be just a boy standing in front of a girl. There are some hardcore Trekkies in the world who consider Dean Parisot's 1999 comedy to be the best "Star Trek" movie. The main characters in Parisot's film are all struggling actors, still most fondly remembered for their work on a short-lived cult sci-fi series from decades prior. The in-universe show, called "Galaxy Quest," resembles "Star Trek" in several key ways, and the egotistical lead actor Jason Nesmith (Tim Allen), who played the captain of the starship Protector on "Galaxy Quest," was clearly modeled after William Shatner.
The plot of "Galaxy Quest" is amusing: a species of shapeshifting aliens, requiring defense from marauders, recruit the original "Galaxy Quest" actors to serve as their champions. The aliens assumed that rogue TV broadcasts they once saw were very real and have recreated "Galaxy Quest" in real life. Winslet went through two marriages before finding the current love of her life. She was married to filmmaker Jim Threapleton from 1998 to 2001. Afterwards, she was married to Revolutionary Road filmmaker Sam Mendes from 2003-2011. The actor’s chosen to keep the reasons for both of her divorces a secret for the sake of privacy.
“No one really knows what has happened in my life. No one really knows why my first marriage didn’t last; no one knows why my second didn’t. And I’m proud of those silences,” she once told the Wall Street Journal.
But she has confided that,...

(Welcome to Tales from the Box Office, our column that examines box office miracles, disasters, and everything in between, as well as what we can learn from them.)
"If you went into a movie called 'Ace Ventura: Pet Detective' and you were doing the stuff I was doing in that movie, would you be expecting while you were doing that movie that it was going to be huge?" Jim Carrey asked this to radio shock-jock Howard Stern in 1994 shortly after the actor's movie opened unexpectedly atop the box office. Stern bluntly responded with "No" but it was, in fact, a monster hit. It was one of three such hits that Carrey would be a part of that year, making it one of arguably the best years that any actor has had — from a commercial standpoint — in history.
Yet, it all started with a movie that, as Stern pointed out,...

A fresh set of actors are about to be enrolled in what the film series cast cheekily nicknamed ‘the Harry Potter Pension plan’. US streamer Max’s plan to re-adapt the Potter books into a TV show running for 10 consecutive years and starting in 2025/6 should keep the lucky new cast in greasepaint and copies of The Stage indefinitely.
But who will they be? Lead characters Harry, Ron and Hermione will almost certainly be played by unknowns, but the Hogwarts ensemble – Dumbledore, Snape, McGonagall, Hagrid and co. – will be picked from the current crop of British acting talent, just like their counterparts were over two decades ago. Who working today could follow in the footsteps of Sir Michael Gambon, Alan Rickman, Dame Maggie Smith, Robbie Coltrane and the rest?
While it’s too early for any solid cast news, there’s no harm in a bit of dream-casting at this point,...

"Galaxy Quest" isn't just a hilarious sci-fi riff on "Three Amigos," it's also respected by longtime fans of "Star Trek" as a loving parody of the original series created by Gene Roddenberry, not to mention a positive portrayal of passionate fandom. In the movie, Tim Allen, Alan Rickman, Sigourney Weaver, Tony Shalhoub, and Daryl Mitchell play the cast members of a cheesy sci-fi series called "Galaxy Quest" that looks eerily like the original iteration of "Star Trek" on the small screen. At this point in their careers, all the actors are washed up, relegated to appearing at sci-fi conventions and answering nerdy questions about the show from their most passionate fans. But they're about to get a chance to become real heroes.
