The Mexican (2001)
Horrible, but should be expected from the most overrated actress of all time...
Julia Roberts stinks --- bad. This movie stinks --- bad. Don't waste your time. I'm still trying to figure out why, other than being the latest Hollywood fad, that Gandolfini's character is gay. I guess Hollywood can't green light a movie these days without some sympathy for the gays.
This movie is so bad........I'll let someone else finish the sentence...
Almost Famous (2000)
Best Screenplay of 2000
Crowe continues to amaze with his brilliant writing and directing. The script is so good, it's hard to imagine any director not making a good movie out of it, but Crowe has a keen sense of creating the right feel and mood. Terrific coming of age story, acting terrific and as a writer, if this doesn't get you motivated to go out and write, nothing will.
Traffic (2000)
Oscar nom for Soderbergh!
A great job with a complex script. Soderbergh's use of different colors and tones to set locations and mood was terrific. Definitely deserves an Oscar nom for Best Director and probably Best Picture. Brilliantly acted across the board with a possible Supporting Actor Oscar noms for Benicio Del Toro and Don Cheadle. Also nice to see Steven Bauer back on the big screen in a significant role. Great actor, hope to see more of him in the future.
While certainly not glorifying drug use, the story's truth lies in the fact that this 'war on drugs' is ridiculous and a complete waste of the taxpayer's money. Highly recommended and a good movie for parents with teenagers.
Reach the Rock (1998)
Complete Surprise - Definitely worth the time
I was really surprised I didn't hear anything about this when in theaters, it being from John Hughes and all. Typical Hughes - good story, heartfelt, funny - it has everything a good movie should have.
The Usual Suspects (1995)
Maybe the best script I have ever read. Easily Top Ten of All Time Movie...
During the Chicago Cubs pennant drive during the MLB resurgent 1998 Season, a game was broadcast nationally and after Sammy Sosa hit a Home Run (in HR race against Mark McGuire), someone held up a sign in crowd that read, "Kieyser Sosa." That said it all. This movie is so well written and directed, I actually watched it twice in one day. It's that good! Two thumbs up, All fingers, all toes, all up!
