Prep for season 6

Well let's be honest - that wasn't the wittiest episode in the series. But I think we all kind of agreed on the fact Madam Secretary had moved from political drama more into the territory of family show. And in this area the episode was just perfectly sweet with handsome Henry, beautiful Elisabeth and smiley kids (who in my opinion behaved a little bit to young for their age; but hey, the episode had to be sweet so adult kids are forgiven to behave like teenagers).

Plus we're almost at the end of the series so it's high time to set Elisabeth agenda for her presidential run in series 6. And it will be the mix of modern social care for middle/lower classes and liberal believe in democracy and its rights.

Those opposing last few episodes and screaming about liberal propaganda I say, calm down. Elisabeth has always been a bit lefty. And I'm not only talking about her support for LGBT. Maybe a few years ago you haven't seen it as it is always much easier to notice things in perspective. And right now you have a huge, tremendously orange sun highlighting the show and its agenda.

Ignore the haters and supporters of Donald J. Trump
darkthunder848 January 2019
This was a brilliant 2-part storyline, which cleverly shone a light on a real problem that exists today.

To the haters who came before this review, if you were real "conservatives" you wouldn't have voted for the Clown Chief in the White House, to begin with.

One of my Favorites

This show is easily one of my favorites and this episode helped to cement it. I'll admit I'm squishier than most when it cones to this kind of thing but I have no problem admitting that I cried. Beautiful work writers and amazing acting to everyone.

Ignore the 45 supporting haters, this was brilliant TV in a fraught political climate right now. I sure hope it changed a few hateful minds. We need a bit of that these days.

A Tragic Reminder....
wiccanrebel21 July 2021
This subject is so hard to deal with. The conservatives in here whining that everybody needs to hear the other side? I'm pretty sure most people don't want to hear any of the pathetic and weak justifications for the immoral, un-American and degrading treatment of immigrants... So many people seem to forget that America was built on the backs of immigrants. I think this episode very sensitively and openly portrayed this subject....

The writing just keeps getting better!

Warning: Spoilers
I'm a late-comer to Madam Secretary but once I started watching it upon the recommendation of a friend, I've been hooked. I love how the episodes blend fictional characters with actual characters like when former Secretaries of State Hillary Clinton, Madeline Albright, and Colin Powell all made cameo appearances to meet with Secretary Elizabeth McCord. I live in Arizona and today I watched Season 5, Episodes 10-11. The two-parter is about the heinous deterrent to illegal immigration when the US/Mexico border states took children from their parents during the Trump administration. The fictional Arizona Governor's name was Barker who authorized the arrest of the Secretary when she exposed the despicable reality of kids from babies on up shut in cages, sleeping on the floor, and being neglected. Children were sent all over the country in real life and the government authorities insisted it wasn't their job to track the identities of the children, many of whom were too young to say their names, so parents or other family members could find them again. The episode ended well when both the Secretary was released from jail and the children were reunited with their parents. One fun "blooper" (?) was when older daughter Stevie was telling her mother, the Secretary, about a phone call from the White House reporting the release of the children. Stevie started to say, "Governor Duc...." and quickly corrected the line to, "Governor Barker". Republican Doug Ducey was the actual Arizona Governor at the time of these events.

Worst episode ever

What really demands a response is the propanda, lies, and statement arguments of this episode. How about if you want to do an episode to have a national conversation about something maybe you fairly represent the different arguments.

Just so you terrible writers know in international law family separation is not inhumane or even illegal. A little research and realism to make the episode remotely plausible would be nice.

That's one side of the problem...
LittleStorpingInTheSwuff9 January 2019
This was a 2 part politically correct side of the immigration problem, now let's see the other side of it. Let's see a 2 part episode showing the affects and suffering that U.S. citizens have had to endure as victims of crimes at the hands of illegal immigrants.

Blatant Attack On President Trump
hurstpj7 January 2019
Paper thinly disguised attack on our POTUS in these two episodes. Stop alienating your conservative viewers, or you will find yourself without an audience.

One Of The Most Stupid Episodes Ever
jsi-211 June 2019
I gave this episode two stars instead of one because I'm a fan of the show. But wow, what a dumb, ridiculous episode that was nothing more than propaganda for liberal, Trump-hating Hollywood. Big thumbs down.

Still Hysterical!
donktamblyn25 September 2019
As I wrote in my review of Part One, this episode brought the series fully into the realm of fantasy farce and satire. They dropped all sense of reality with this one. Granted previous episodes have gone there too, just that this one went further. Attempting to make a serious commentary and failing with such a tunnel vision point of view.

Barbara Hall and David Grae really went off the rails when writing these episodes. There was so little of truth in what they created. What truth there was they muddled with nonsense. Whether writing drama or comedy there needs to be some grain of fact to bounce off of. I'm sure they believed they were using a factual political issue, but they were grossly mistaken. The only fact this was bouncing off of was the immigration issue, after that it was utter garbage espousing fantastical biased hopes and dreams.

They did achieve one thing, for me, at least. This is now my favorite comedy on television. I should have known from the beginning with Tim Daly's character being a former pilot.

One-sided
thebenstrongbs19 March 2024
Obviously, this is a work of fiction that is not written by constitutional nor legal scholars.

I think many on both sides of the given issues forget that this very much fiction, and the writers can deem "right" and "righteous" whatever their hearts see fit whether or not it actually parallels reality.

You always win- you're always correct when you write the story.

For many of us, this is just another episode to grit teeth because it is so polarized and steaming with self-righteousness.

While given lip service, these episodes greatly downplay some issues that were mentioned such as state rights and sovereignty. There were even pieces of information and stats that were given that were half-truths or blatantly wrong... often completely dismissing the conservative side's actual arguments and talking points but rather just color the right as evil, backwards, or stupid.

It'd just be nice if there could be some kind of occasional nod to the fact that (while the Dalton admin is independent) the liberal side of the isle is not the high and mighty figures and points that they so claim, and that there are decent people on the other side of the issue that are correct as well or sometimes more so.

They are suppose to be independent. In what way are they not representing leftist dreaming every step of the way?
