Unlocked: A Jail Experiment (2024)
Experimenting With Human Beings Is Not Good
I found this series interesting, but if I was a Pulaski County taxpayer, I'd be concerned about what the sheriff might be putting me and the rest of taxpayers on the hook for. When the government takes a man's freedom from him, the government then becomes responsible for his wellbeing. That prisoner has to be fed, housed and cared for in a humane manner, and he has a civil right to not be subjected to cruel and unusual punishment, and the sheriff has a duty to keep the prisoners from harm. If one prisoner had attacked another prisoner during their little experiment and severely injured, maimed, or even worse, killed a prisoner before officers could get in there and stop it? Well, the county would writing the prisoner and/or his family a big, fat check. I can't believe the county legal department would've signed off on this experiment. Locking people up; taking their freedom away, is a very expensive business if done right, and even more expensive if done wrong.
Yellowstone: Cigarettes, Whiskey, a Meadow and You (2022)
Idiotic Depiction of Secret Service
I've been loving this show until this episode. I'm retired Federal law enforcement, and the depiction of the Secret Service coming to the rez in Black Hawks, in preparation for a presidential visit, all swatted up, shooting the residents' dogs just because they were running loose is SO stupid. I know Taylor Sheridan was trying to create drama with that, but at least try to give it a smidge of realism. The Secret Service is notorious for going out of its way to NOT needlessly antagonize local officials with heavy handed moves, because it relies so much on their cooperation and commitment of manpower to accomplish its mission. Hire a damn technical consultant, for Christ's sake.
New Amsterdam: Domino Effect (2018)
Enjoyable and compelling medical drama, but . . .
I'd like to know if the ease of finding a living partial lung donor is anywhere as close in real life as it was in this episode. I know it's TV, but viewers should know the actors playing the Guatemalan father and daughter do not well represent actual Guatemalans. Most Guatemalans who come to the US illegally are extremely poor and uneducated. Most have never been to a real medical doctor in their lives. If they've ever received medical care in Guatemala, it was probably from a village medicine man with no actual formal medical training. Consequently, most Guatemalans we see in the US are very afraid of medical personnel here, they have no knowledge of the good that trained medical doctors can do, and they would, therefore, never set foot in a modern hospital. Also, this isn't meant as any kind of slight towards the Guatemalans who make their way here illegally, but most are very small in stature; kind of like Oompa Loompas. But God bless them.
The Good Fight: The End of Playing Games (2022)
Leftist BS
I've been a big fan of The Good Wife and then of The Good Fight. But this manufactured BS that there is a sophisticated white supremacy/neo-nazi cabal out there targeting black law firms or whatever else is just too much. Are there idiots out there who fashion themselves as such? Sure. And are they dangerous? Yes. But are there sophisticated, well-funded such groups out there who're plotting to overthrow the government? No. Robert and Michelle King missed an opportunity to create a great ending to this series and instead fell into the Trump derangement syndrome cesspool, creating this unbelievable yarn.
The Good Fight: And the Fight Had a Détente... (2021)
Amazing television
The challenges are many for orchestral musicians playing together, whether it's a community orchestra, a professional chamber group or the LA Phil: playing in time, playing with a level of intonation that seemingly blends.the timbre of a section into a single instrument, all while the musicians are communicating to the listener what the piece is saying to them as a group.
When television series writers, producers, directors, the cast and crew can come together in a similar fashion with great subject matter, timely topics, humor, drama, wonderful casting and great acting, you get superb television like what I watched in this episode. It was belly-laughing funny and extremely thought provoking. Just great stuff.
I gotta say, Sarah Steele.is one of my new favorite actors. She's the complete package. She, Mandy Patinkin and Wayne Brady have great chemistry together.
A Million Little Things: Listen (2021)
Horrible episode. Pandering to BLM
When Rome told Tyrell to watch himself at the protest over George Floyd's death, because there will be police officers there looking for any reason to kill Tyrell because he's black, I about lost it. What an outrageous BS lie based on nothing in real life. I was a fan of this show, but I'm done with it now.
Madam Secretary: Family Separation: Part 2 (2019)
One Of The Most Stupid Episodes Ever
I gave this episode two stars instead of one because I'm a fan of the show. But wow, what a dumb, ridiculous episode that was nothing more than propaganda for liberal, Trump-hating Hollywood. Big thumbs down.
The Haunting of Hill House (2018)
Excellent show. Watch it!
Just watch it. It's a great, well-made series. The casting of the young Crain children was brilliant. I especially like the performance of Julian Hilliard as young Luke Crain. He is so interesting to listen to and watch.
My only dislike was using two different actors for Hugh Crain. Henry Thomas and Timothy Hutton are fine actors, but pick one or the other and use whatever movie magic they do to make them appear older or younger. That switch between the two kind of breaks my imagination while watching.
The Resident: Comrades in Arms (2018)
Hollywood's skewed view of ICE agents
Was it really necessary to depict ICE agents walking into the hospital like grim reapers? What a load. ICE agents actually do have beating hearts and don't really chew the heads off of live baby bunnies.
As a former ICE agent, there's no way ICE would take custody of an alien with the medical condition depicted. Why? Because it then become the government's responsibility to take care of her.
It frequently happens that ICE does have custody of gravely ill aliens. They get sent to the hospital to get whatever level of care is appropriate, to include any necessary surgeries and/or chemo therapy or radiation. The government frequently pays hundreds of thousands of dollars in medical costs, USING YOUR TAX DOLLARS!!!, for individual detainees.
Yearly, for all detainees in custody, the government pays hundreds of millions in tax dollars to make sure they all receive adequate medical care. So in actuality, if the writers wanted to come up with a solution to make sure Louisa Rodriguez got the care she needed, they should have written a scene where the doctors instruct her to sit on a bus bench outside of the hospital, then call in an anonymous tip to ICE that there is an illegal alien out there, and let ICE pick her up. Once she's in custody, all of her medical issues are the responsibility of the government. And if you think, "Yeah, right, they just deport her so they don't have to take care of her." Nope. There's strict rules about that. They're required to provide whatever medical care the detainee needs until it can be determined he or she is safe to travel and is not suffering a grave illness that can't be adequately addressed in their native country.
It (2017)
Lost Opportunity to Make a Great Scary Movie
I was so disappointed. Bill Skarsgård was a great depiction of a scary clown, but, as another reviewer noted, the movie itself was scary--if you were a 10 year-old. There was just a lot of silliness that caused me to quickly lose interest.
On a side note, it's been a while since I've been to the movies. I've been reading about how movie attendance is down. Maybe it's because of the morons who pay $11 a ticket and then spend the entire movie talking out loud or otherwise making noises they might do at home in front of their own TV.
