The first of the two films, Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum, will be directed by and star Andy Serkis, with Walsh and Boyens set to write the screenplay, along with Phoebe Gittins and Arty Papageorgiou (Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim). After "The Hobbit" trilogy got a mixed reception (despite being a commercial success) and "The Rings of Power" improved upon the feature films and even turned war from a cool source of thrills into the horror Tolkien described, the "Lord of the Rings" franchise is going back on the big screen where it belongs.
Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav has been threatening new live-action "Lord of the Rings" movies in his quest to just mine every piece of intellectual property the studio owns, but in the meantime, we are getting a brand new story set in Tolkien's legendarium, and there are many reasons to be excited about it. "The War of the Rohirrim" is a brand-new story set in Middle-earth, and it's one of our most anticipated movies of the year. But what exactly is this movie? Exclusive: Coming off directing and executive producing the first two episodes of FX’s Shōgun, Jonathan van Tulleken has been tapped to direct and executive produce the first two episodes of another high-profile limited series, Prime Video’s Blade Runner 2099.
Tulleken replaces Jeremy Podeswa, who was originally set to direct the first two episodes but had to step away due to scheduling conflicts as the Blade Runner 2099 production schedule was altered by the WGA strike.
The series was originally slated to film in Belfast last summer. In May, a couple of weeks into the writers strike, it was revealed that, due to the work stoppage, production on Blade Runner 2099 was delayed, likely until spring 2024. Northern Ireland Screen said at the time the project had “been prepping on the ground in Belfast for many months now.”
In October, it was reported that Blade Runner 2099 was moving away from Belfast.

Since Metallic Rouge was announced at Fuji TV Anime Lineup Presentation 2023, it was clear that the new anime series from the prestigious Bones studio would be an emotive way to commemorate the first 25 years of the company made by ex-key members of Sunrise Studio (now Bandai Namco Filmworks). Most anime enthusiasts know Bones for series like My Hero Academia , Fullmetal Alchemist (both adaptations), Bungo Stray Dogs , Mob Psycho 100 and movies like Escaflowne, Cowboy Bebop and Josee, the Tiger and the Fish . But true fans of the studio’s vast filmography know that their original works had an important impact on the anime industry since their beginning. So, why is Metallic Rouge so perfect to celebrate Bones’ first 25 years? Impressive Original Stories As a futuristic mystery thriller, the strongest element of the story is how Toshizo Nemoto ( Log Horizon ) and Yutaka Izubuchi ( Space Battleship Yamato 2199 ) tell the story of...

Whoever wins, we lose. When Disney wins, however, everyone loses.
/Film reported back in May of 2023 that Disney, as part of its massive acquisition of 20th Century Fox in 2019, had inherited an already-complete 10-episode anime TV series based on the nerd-sating "Alien vs. Predator" series. The show's existence was confirmed by Joshua Izzo, the former director of licensing at 20th Century Fox, on the "Perfect Organism" podcast. Izzo said that the 10-episode series was complete, but that it was locked in a vault at Disney, hidden from public view. This is a common practice during mergers and management changes. The new administration as a film studio or record label, wanting to work solely on their own projects, will often shelve the previous administration's projects as a mode of keeping the slate clean. This means a lot of excellent art has never seen the light of day, or was released with so little fanfare,...

Back in early 2020, we heard mention of an Alien vs. Predator anime series that had been made before the 20th Century Fox / Disney merger and never released. Now the folks at the Perfect Organism podcast have scored an interview with Joshua Izzo, who made Alien Day an official event while working at Fox. During this interview, Izzo confirmed that an Alien vs. Predator anime series was produced, all ten episodes were completed… and now they’ve just been sitting on a shelf (a shelf that is now inside the Disney vault) for years.
Izzo said (with thanks to Avp Galaxy for the transcript), “One thing that did not happen during Alien Day in 2016 was – there is sitting at Disney now, at 20th [Studios], 10 episodes of a fully completed Alien vs. Predator anime series that I produced. No matter how much time passes, "Blade Runner" consistently holds up as not just one of Harrison Ford's best films, but one of the greatest sci-fi movies of all time. Forty years after Ridley Scott's 1982 masterpiece debuted, it still feels fresh, relevant, and looks incredible.
Which is why you'd think Hollywood would have milked it for all its worth in the age of the legacy sequel and rampant nostalgia bait. The thing is, "Blade Runner" didn't make that much money at the box office, bringing in just shy of $40 million globally. In the decades since, the film gained a significant cult following, to the extent that Warner Bros. was tempted to try a "Blade Runner" revival with 2017's "Blade Runner 2049," — a movie far too good to be a box office hit. Which it wasn't. It underperformed, bringing in a respectable $258 million at the global box office but...

Blade Runner was a 1982 cinematic adaptation of Philip K. Dick’s novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? It featured the quest of an officer, referred to as a “blade runner” in the film, where he had to kill some bioengineered humanoids called replicants. The movie’s ending also produced one of the most memorable and sad final words in the history of movies. A sequel, Blade Runner 2049, was released in 2017, and then an anime series, Blade Runner: Black Lotus, in 2021. The Blade Runner The movie was set in Los Angeles in the year 2019. A

Over the course of its five-season run, "Schitt's Creek" grew from a quiet sitcom with a sizable following to a full-blown cultural phenomenon. It's become impossible to remember life before Annie Murphy first uttered the words "Ew, David" and hardly a day goes by that I don't see a gif of Dan Levy looking absolutely disgusted as David. While the series will no doubt hold up as a heartwarming and hilarious rewatch until the end of time, the door has (mostly) closed on the Rose family hijinks, leaving audiences to wonder: what comes next for writer, co-creator, and star Dan Levy?
The answer is, unsurprisingly, a lot. Given the massive success of "Schitt's Creek" — which includes setting the Emmy record for most wins in a single season for a comedy series — the rush to produce Levy's next project was very real. He was courted and eventually signed a TV and movie deal with Netflix.

Adult Swim is an icon of animation. The programming block turned cable TV channel is responsible for introducing American adult animation as we know it today — from "Sealab 2021" and "Aqua Teen Hunger Force" to "Rick and Morty" — while helping introduce anime to American audiences in a bigger way than before, turning shows like "Dragon Ball Z," "Sailor Moon" and "Mobile Suit Gundam Wing" into cultural phenomena stateside.
In recent years, Adult Swim has taken things a step further by co-producing original anime shows with Japanese studios, co-producing shows like "Flcl Alternative" and the recent "Blade Runner: Black Lotus," the latter being a co-production between Adult Swim and Crunchyroll.

After the early success of “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power,” Amazon is doubling down on its strategy of mining the mythology of iconic science fiction and fantasy franchises to create new shows. Earlier this year, the streaming service began developing “Blade Runner 2099,” a mysterious series set in Ridley Scott’s sci-fi universe that takes place 50 years after the events of “Blade Runner 2049.” Now, Amazon has officially decided to move forward with the project, ordering 10 episodes of the series from showrunner Silka Luisa and executive producers Ridley Scott, Michael Green, and Alcon Entertainment co-founders Andrew Kosove and Broderick Johnson.
Though little is currently known about the show’s plot, it is part of Kosove and Johnson’s larger efforts to expand the “Blade Runner” universe since acquiring the property in 2011. In addition to producing “Blade Runner 2049,” they also backed the anime series “Blade Runner: Black Lotus.

Since 1979, the TV academy has honored the field of animation by awarding the Best Animated Program Emmy on an annual basis. In its current form, this primetime category allows submissions targeted at audiences aged 13 and above, with series and specials made for younger viewers being relegated to the Children’s and Family Emmys. Since the creation of a separate short form category in 2008, submissions here have also been required to have runtimes in excess of 15 minutes.
The 2022 Best Animated Program ballot list below consists of 42 entries. Per category rules, all are either one-off specials or single episodes of continuing series. Seeking their dozenth victory and first since 2019 is the team behind “The Simpsons,” who just wrapped their 33rd season. Other shows hoping for repeat wins this year include “Archer,” “Bob’s Burgers,” “Rick and Morty,” and “South Park.”

Blade Runner is a sci-fi classic that forever has a place in cinema history. Though the film and its sequel, Blade Runner 2049, failed to be a success at the box office, it’s a feature that was very insightful as it tackled its themes about oppression and corporate power with intelligence. The world is incredibly rich with unique characters and environments so naturally, Blade Runner feels like a world that deserves to be explored in more depth. Enter Blade Runner: Black Lotus, which follows a young woman with amnesia who searches for the truth about her brutal and bloody past.

1982’s Blade Runner is often regarded as the greatest earthbound science fiction film of all time. The Ridley Scott and Harrison Ford cult classic certainly makes a very good case.
While you can argue for all sorts of great sci-fi movies without space travel (Back to the Future?), it’s tough to find a grounded sci-fi movie quite like Blade Runner in which space travel exists but is never actually depicted. In other words, although space travel is essential to the story of Blade Runner and its fugitive Replicants, we never actually witness it on screen. But could all of that change? Could a new iteration of live-action Blade Runner finally take us to space?

Amazon Studios is developing a live-action “Blade Runner” TV series with Ridley Scott as an executive producer, TheWrap has learned.
Scott directed the seminal 1982 film starring Harrison Ford, which was based on Philip K. Dick’s short story, “Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?” The potential series, titled “Blade Runner 2099,” would be a sequel to 2017’s “Blade Runner 2049,” the follow-up directed by Denis Villeneuve, in which Ryan Gosling co-starred alongside a returning Ford.
Silka Luisa, who is showrunning Starz’s upcoming drama “Shining Girls,” is writing and executive producing the project.
“Blade Runner” takes place in a dystopian Los Angeles. The first film was set in 2019 and featured Ford as Blade Runner Rick Deckard, a cop who hunts down replicants (androids). Silka Luisa, showrunner of Starz’s upcoming Elisabeth Moss-fronted drama series Shining Girls, is writing and exec producing Blade Runner 2099, which comes from Scott Free Productions in association with Alcon Entertainment and Amazon Studios.
The project, which would mark the first Blade Runner live-action series, is in priority development at Amazon Studios, which is fast tracking scripts and eyeing potential production dates. Staffing is currently underway for writers to join a room. Scott may direct if the series moves forward, sources said.

“Alien” isn’t the only iconic Ridley Scott franchise getting a buzzy live-action television series. Speaking to the BBC on Monday (via Variety), Scott revealed that “Blade Runner” is getting the live-action TV treatment. Specifics of the project were not revealed, other than the following: “We [have already] written the pilot for ‘Blade Runner’ and the bible. So, we’re already presenting ‘Blade Runner’ as a TV show, the first 10 hours.” Whether or not the series takes place after the Denis Villeneuve-directed sequel “Blade Runner 2049” or is set at another point on the “Blade Runner timeline remains to be seen.

Ridley Scott has confirmed that live-action TV series of two of his most enduring movies, “Blade Runner” and “Alien,” are fast progressing, with pilots written for both shows.
Speaking with the BBC on Monday, the “House of Gucci” helmer suggested the “Blade Runner” adaptation is being plotted as a 10-episode series: “We [have already] written the pilot for ‘Blade Runner’ and the bible. So, we’re already presenting ‘Blade Runner’ as a TV show, the first 10 hours.”
Scott said “Alien” was getting a “similar” treatment. A pilot is being written along with a bible of what transpires in 8-10 hours of the show.
News of an “Alien” series was first announced in December 2020. The show is being set up at cabler FX, with Noah Hawley attached as showrunner. FX boss John Landgraf described the project last year as “the first ‘Alien’ story set on Earth — and by blending both the timeless horror...
