Hope for Andrew.
Sleepin_Dragon3 May 2020
Andrew receives some unlikely support, from someone who has experienced a similar story with Laura.

The story takes a real twist here, with Luke thrown into the mix, Laura shows a decent, caring side as a Teacher. You see a mixed side of the Police, they're trying to gather evidence, but there isn't any to be had.

Peter Davison was excellent as the sinister Norman, he's such a versatile actor, so often he plays the good guy, good to see him play a more sinister part.

It's a strong story, 7/10.

Unlikely

Warning: Spoilers
Why the complicated girl-from-immigrant-pregnancy scare? Is it normal for two teenagers to have to resort to the morning after pill and dad nor school blink an eye? Are we supposed to compare father and son in terms of sexual predator? (the son clearly didn't bother to use a condom) For the rest I like it so will continue watching

Episode 3
Prismark1026 September 2017
Warning: Spoilers
It is a soap opera. Denis and his allegations that Laura accused him of sexual assault previously and then withdrew them gives Andrew a shot in the arm.

Given Laura's behaviour it is no surprise that the police decide not to investigate further. Even when Tom confronts Andrew it is brushed aside after all he knows about Tom's relationship with one of his fellow worker's.

When one of her pupil tries to terminate her pregnancy at school with Andrew's son being the father, Laura has to confront Andrew and ask him for his help to stop her father finding out.

Yet somewhere in this episode, Andrew's mask slips a little when he asks Detective Harmon out for a drink when she informs him that the police would not take the matter further. Harmon seems not to be happy that there is no prosecution and she tells Laura that the Edinburgh police initially thought that his first wife's suicide was initially regarded as suspicious.

Well my concerns have been laid to rest. The did he/didn't he rape her angle is not going to drag out for six episodes as we are shown at the end that Andrew apparently did spike her drink. Then again after his talk with Detective Harmon we kind of guessed he was a predator. The rest of the series will turn into something else.

It looks like Andrew is planning to sue Laura for defamation while Laura will try to uncover the circumstances of his wife's death.

Too predictable

Warning: Spoilers
Instead of doing a mystery with clues here and there, they went the route of pointing all evidence at one person being crazy and the other being a good guy...even when he left as info was presented that someone else had groped her. It wasn't a balance of info. It was intended to create false perceptions so they could then have a twist, but the twist felt forced because of it.

On top of that, some of the evidence was convincing like the fact that she supposedly told him where the condoms were.

The biggest problem is there is no evidence supporting her story that the police were aware of...yet we have police who are breaking laws and outright dumb (presenting things they know aren't evidence yet) and accusing him of the rape even though everything pointed to his innocence. If there's some reason for them to make accusations, share it, but again it's part of that forced plot twist. In Law and Order True Crime, for example, she knows they did it because of the brutality of the crime - that only family can create that kind of hate. Experience and knowledge, but in this case there's no indication until the very end of episode 3 during a flashback.

I love the characters and the story, but the writing, the way it's presented, the forced twist, the attempts at manipulation. I didn't want it to be so obvious, but sure enough I had it predicted from the start because of the way they forced things. It could have been great. I hope some people enjoy it. I just wish it would have been handled different.
