I expected to see an interesting and engaging film, the summary looked good, nice scenery, Netflix hyped it a bit.
Well, it certainly was filmed in a beautiful place, but there's not much else going for it.
The female lead doesn't have the screen presence to carry the film, or so many scenes of her wandering the woods aimlessly. It goes like this: getting startled at everything and everyone, some wandering the woods, maybe getting startled in the forest, go back and look over some notes, back to the woods, "look, I found a glove!", more notes, back to the woods.
I'm usually really good at this suspension of disbelief and immersion thing, but this made me imagine the director bored of following around Catalina Zahri making scared faces.
It has the tone and feel of a thriller, and it also has a very weird transition when she visits the town museum which is never used again.
The narrative is confusing, there's some competent acting but no character is engaging or fleshed out and there's nothing happening instead of that development to cover it up.
We see a dead body from afar, we are told that there was a killer, the cop suspects that the writer of the books that resemble the killings in a vague way is the actual killer because he lives in the area. With the guy dead, he is convinced that Claudia, his ex/widow, was in on it or at least knew about it and he wants to crack the case, but there's no development or investigation other than that. He basically stalks Claudia and follows her around until the twist.
I'm not going to go into details about the final twist, but it comes off abruptly (which was unavoidable since there wasn't real development on the plot, the killings, investigation, etc) and it's just not satisfying in any way.
The final scene with Claudia even made me chuckle, and I'm sorry to say so because it wasn't the intended effect. I hope that the director/writers don't hold it too dearly and go on to better things.
There are some very few positive things that they can take from this first effort, but it's not a good movie, I don't recommend it and I don't plan to see it again.
