Call of Duty and Battlefield are no Need For Speed games, but the involvement of Electronic Arts with the latter proves why vehicle mechanics are so fluid in Bf games. It’s been a hard time for both the video games as the fans aren’t happy with the franchises’ latest installments. While MW3 could’ve been better but chose to accompany Bf 2042 in its worst time.
Coincidently, both video games are the latest in their respective franchises and deemed by fans as worst, in their respective franchises of course. It wouldn’t be a surprise if fans were surprised to think about what is happening with the major video game franchises right now. Bf really needs a different strategy if they are to outshine CoD in the gaming arena.

With its upcoming narrative racing game Heading Out, developer Serious Sim seems to be putting its own fresh spin on the vehicular genre. When one usually thinks of racing titles, iconic franchises such as Need for Speed instantly come to mind, but there’s not much else to do other than drive the car around and win races in those games.
Fortunately, developers like Serious Sim and Ironwood, the latter being the development team behind Pacific Drive, a survival title released last month, are making sure that they try something new with the genre and possibly end up creating sub-branches of it to keep them interesting in today’s landscape.

EA Sports Fc 24 had a lot riding on its shoulders considering how it was responsible for kickstarting a revamping of the FIFA series. Naturally, since it became known that Electronic Arts’ partnership with FIFA had ended, fans’ skepticism started to grow, with players worried that the rebrand wouldn’t be able to live up to the franchise that preceded it.
However, it wasn’t that disastrous of a launch for EA Sports Fc 24, although the reviews were mixed. As enough time has passed since its release, one player has realized that the game is much worse than the community initially thought.

Call of Duty and Battlefield are two of the biggest names when it comes to online multiplayer Fps games. However, while Call of Duty is growing even today by adding new games to the franchise, Battlefield has hit a bit of a roadblock. The last installment of the latter was released back in 2021, Battlefield 2042, and was met with a lukewarm welcome by the community. Fans who are now eagerly awaiting a new Battlefield game will be waiting quite a bit longer as a studio closure leaves the game’s future in limbo.
EA Announces Closure of Ridgeline Games The new single-player Battlefield project will now be handled by Criterion Games.
The information comes from Andy Robinson on X, who tweeted out saying EA has closed Ridgeline Games, the studio handling a future Battlefield single-player game. This title was supposedly going to be a counterpart to Battlefield 2042, which was designed exclusively for online play.

Santa Claus won’t be the only mythical figure sliding down chimneys this holiday season! John Woo is getting in on the home invasion action now that Lionsgate is bringing Silent Night to PVOD on December 19. Please buy extra milk and cookies this year. I hear Woo likes Macaroons and Snickerdoodles. While that’s probably inaccurate, he strikes me as a man of taste. It’s been 20 years since Woo’s last American movie, so this is a big deal.

Rami Malek Once Saved Mr. Robot From A Potential Rewrite! ( Photo Credit – Flickr )
Rami Malek received his due credit with a Best Actor win at the Academy Awards for Bohemian Rhapsody (2018). However, one venture that helped him grow and explore his potential as an actor was Mr. Robot (2015–2019). The Expendables 4 is coming to physical media in time for Christmas.
The Expendables 4 – or The Expend4bles, if you really must – wasn’t quite the franchise resurrection that its backers had been hoping for. Arriving nine years after somebody decided that a PG-13 version of The Expendables 3 was a good idea, the sequel at least didn’t make that mistake again. Instead, it made some new ones.
Still, if you missed the movie in cinemas and want to catch up on the series, then the fourth film, with its clunky title, is heading to DVD, Blu-ray and 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray in the UK this December.
December 11th 2023, to be exact, with a 15 certificate on the box. No confirmation yet of any extra features though, although in fairness, we’re long past the days where we tend to get a press release or anything about the majority of physical media releases.

Over the years, Hollywood has made some very bad movies on a huge budget but Director Scott Waugh has topped all that. Expendables 4 (known as “Expend4bles“) has a $100 million budget but as you start watching the film you begin to realize that the movie has a predictable story, action that looks fake, CGI that is bad and actors who are just going through the motions of making a film and collecting a paycheck. So, then the question anyone would ask is how expensive can a movie like this be? There is a huge mismatch as a $100 million budget movie should be way better in terms of quality. Expend4bles is the kind of movie that leaves a bad taste in your mouth and you hope against hope that a 5th film never gets made.

While Expend4bles underperformed at the box office this weekend, the movie might find more of an audience once it hits streaming in the next few months. While I didn’t love the film, I still had a decent enough time with it. Director Scott Waugh, who previously directed Act of Valor and Need for Speed, kept the movie moving quickly and packed it with some good action, including a big fight between bad guy Iko Uwais and Jason Statham’s Lee Christmas. In our exclusive interview, Waugh explains how he made sure the fight was more two-sided than usual for a Statham scrap. Waugh also explains what it was like making an Expend4bles movie where Stallone’s role is pretty small. He also tells us about an Arnold Schwarzenegger movie he’s making, Breakout. He reacts to the surprising success of Hidden Strike, a Jackie Chan/ John Cena movie he...

Before John Wick ushered in a new era of stuntmen turned directors, Expend4bles director Scott Waugh was one of the few exceptions to pull off the feat. Following in the footsteps of his older brother Ric Roman Waugh, the younger Waugh made his own luck by funding 2012’s Act of Valor and co-directing the action film alongside Mouse McCoy. The film starred active-duty Navy Seals, and its success then opened the door for Waugh to direct Need for Speed for Disney, as well as DreamWorks head Steven Spielberg.
Expend4bles is now Waugh’s fifth feature film, and he managed to cross off a major bucket-list item in working with Sylvester Stallone. The duo were supposed to join forces with Jackie Chan on Waugh’s other 2023 film, Hidden Strike, but the volatility of Hollywood schedules led to Stallone’s exit. For a movie with a tagline that literally (and hilariously) states, "They'll die when they're dead," perhaps it's only fitting that "Expendables 4" feels like a last gasp for star-driven action blockbusters. In a noticeable shift in historic trends, audiences seem to have increasingly flocked to theaters less out of a desire to see specific movie stars, and more to catch the latest event-sized movie based on a recognizable brand. Tom Cruise may be on the frontlines fighting back against this rising tide with everything that he's got, but surely there's enough evidence to suggest that IP is what's selling tickets these days, not actors. Even A-listers like Chris Evans have begun to accept this, as he recently told GQ, "That was the beauty of working on Marvel films. You never really had to be front and center. The character is the star."
Just don't try telling any of this to the "Expendables" franchise.

When "The Expendables" first exploded into theaters back in 2010, the cast of aging action icons were already getting a little long in the tooth. Seeing Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Bruce Willis in the same scene together was still worth the price of admission, however. Incredibly, it's already been 10 years since "Expendables 3" came out as the weakest entry in the series, as it proved to be a marketing mistake to give the third installment a PG-13 rating. Part of the fun of this throwback franchise is seeing outlandish sequences of graphic violence. The audience for this wants to feel the arterial blood spray hitting the screen. As a result, the series has made the right course correction by making "Expendables 4" (aka "Expend4bles") R-rated.
Opening this weekend, it will be interesting to see if "Expendables 4" can recapture the box office glory it once enjoyed by putting old faces...

Expend4bles is looking to end the action franchise on a high note at the UK-Ireland box office this weekend, opening in 577 cinemas through Lionsgate.

Jason Statham, Sylvester Stallone, Dolph Lundgren and Randy Couture all reprise their roles, with Curtis ’50 Cent’ Jackson, Megan Fox, Tony Jaa, Iko Uwais, Jacob Scipio, Levy Tran and Andy Garcia all joining the cast.

Plot: The Expendables go after a team of mercenaries connected to a legendary arms dealer whose identity is unknown.
Review: Millennium Media has taken nine years to develop a fourth entry into the Expendables series. Things have changed in the near-decade since the last movie, which is reflected in the fact that this series instalment is much smaller scale than the ones that came before it. It’s primarily a spin-off entry for Jason Statham’s Lee Christmas, with the titular Expendables only supporting our hero on a personal mission, with Sylvester Stallone’s Barney Ross contributing little more than a cameo.
While that’s undeniably disappointing, Expend4bles is still a fun enough action flick if you keep your expectations in check. The budget seems much smaller than it was for the previous films, with abysmal CGI. Most of the action is confined to a cargo ship, as the Expendables...

For 4n utterly braindead and 4rtlessly cr4fted movie th4t feels like 4 fe4ture-length Fmv cut-scene from 4 Sega CD g4me, “Expend4bles” would be a lot more p4inful if not for the fact that it’s so 4t pe4ce with its gener4l shittiness. Don’t get me wrong, the creative and aesthetic indifference behind this long-gestating action sequel — which arrives nine years after “Expendables 3,” but still well before people had time to get nostalgic for this already reheated ’80s revival junk — is remarkable even by the standards of a series that has always prided itself on being cinema’s most glorified direct-to-video project, the “Avengers” of Cialis.

On another sleepy autumn weekend at the box office when actors can’t promote their movies due to the strikes, Millennium Media and Lionsgate are rolling out the latest in their long-in-the-tooth Sylvester Stallone-Jason Statham franchise, Expendables 4, to a weekend take between $15 million-$17 million.
That range is right around where 2014’s Expendables 3 opened –$15.8M– and not far from where Stallone’s last Rambo film resided pre-pandemic, 2019’s Rambo: Last Blood, which bowed to $18.8M. Expendables 3 ended its stateside run at $39.3M while Rambo: Last Blood finaled at $44.8M.
Guys over 25 are the grab with the fourth movie about over-the-hill action heroes booked in 3,400 theaters. The R-rated movie is also playing at 700 Plf screens including Xd, Rpx, Dolby and D Box. Previews start at 6 p.m. Thursday.
Similar to other Lionsgate pics with Millennium, the former is handling North America and UK. Again, all these meat-and-potatoes...

"Need for Speed" tends to get unceremoniously left out of the conversation about video game movies. Released in 2014, the film debuted at the height of Aaron Paul's post-"Breaking Bad" fame. Paul stars as Tobey Marshall, a former race car driver turned working-class mechanic from New York whose friend is killed by Tobey's wealthy rival Dino Brewster (Dominic Cooper) during an illegal street race -- a crime that Tobey is wrongly arrested and convicted for. Upon his release from prison, Tobey sets out to defeat Dino in a San Francisco race. However, for reasons that are too complicated to get into here, he must do so by first driving across the country in a rare Mustang he helped restore in less than 48 hours. Also, Imogen Poots is riding shotgun with him.

The first reviews are in from Thursday night’s Venice Film Festival world premiere of the Michael Mann-directed major Oscar contender “Ferrari,” the action-packed Neon study of the Italian racer and sports car entrepreneur Enzo Ferrari starring Adam Driver as Ferrari, Penelope Cruz as his wife Laura and Shailene Woodley as his mistress Lina Lardi. It focuses on three pivotal months in the life of Ferrari back in 1957, casting its focus on that year’s grueling Mille Miglia endurance race and the love triangle between Enzo and his women. While the early critiques are mixed with some lukewarm ones, the majority are uniformly positive and include a few outright raves.
Here is a sampling:
Owen Gleiberman of Variety raves, “In Michael Mann’s heady, intricately dark, raptly absorbing ‘Ferrari,’ it isn’t just the action that’s fraught with thrilling danger. Every moment of the drama moves with a sense of high-stakes dread,...

"Gran Turismo" has been revving its engines for a while, landing in a large number of overseas markets a couple of weeks ago and grossing $22.7 million internationally as of last weekend. Now, it's off to the races at the domestic box office and headed for an estimated $16 million dollar opening weekend, per The Hollywood Reporter. There are a couple of caveats to that number, starting with the fact that it includes $3.9 million in grosses from ten days of previews, rather than just the usual Thursday previews that get rolled into a movie's opening day box office. Secondly, it's hard to be sure of any estimate due to the wild card of National Cinema Day.

Gone are the days of spending weekends having endless fun with the steering wheel and pedals of racing video games. For me personally, the Need for Speed saga was the one that marked my childhood and teen years, so if I ever played Gran Turismo, that experience has been forgotten in the past. Ironically, I was never a fan of the sport of racing and its many variants, in addition to being completely unaware of the true story on which this film is based. So, partly due to zero expectations going in, this movie turned out to be one of the most surprising, satisfying viewings of the year. Produced by Playstation, sci-fi filmmaker Neill Blomkamp directs this big screen adaptation of the Gran Turismo video games and the story of one driver. // Continue Reading ›...

The Expendables III concluded with new blood joining the team. Then rising action star Jason Statham played the right-hand man to Stallone’s Barney Ross, Lee Christmas. Statham gets promoted to the star in this entry, although Stallone will still make an appearance. Lionsgate has just released the newest trailer for the franchise that celebrates the action movies of old.

Director Neill Blomkamp burst onto the scene all the way back in 2009 with "District 9." 14 years later, it remains one of the most beloved feature directorial debuts in recent memory — if not ever. The problem for Blomkamp is that he's yet to have an unqualified hit ever since his first film became a smash, taking in $210 million worldwide against a $30 million budget, en route to a Best Picture Oscar nomination. But Blomkamp is getting another shot at the big time with his latest film, "Gran Turismo." Part video game adaptation, part biopic, the filmmaker is looking to break his mixed bag of a streak. Can this be the movie to get the job done?

In Scott Waugh's "Hidden Strike," two former special forces veterans — Dragon (Jackie Chan) and Chris (John Cena) — band together to carry out a dangerous mission with massive stakes. The Chan x Cena combination is certainly an interesting one, as both stars bring their specific brand of humor to their roles, and perform in tandem during action scenes that highlight their strengths as leading stars in the action genre. This chemistry is integral to the success of "Hidden Strike," which has been sitting comfortably in the global Top 10 Netflix charts for the past few weeks, thanks to its buddy-cop premise and a plot that doesn't require serious investment for it to be entertaining.
While the Chan-Cena element of the film is a no-brainer in terms of its success, "Hidden Strike" underwent a long gestation period before release, spending five years in post-production before seeing the light of day. Any other...

Although a few movies have been dominating Netflix’s film charts for weeks, the Top 10 English film chart for the week of July 24 had a new entry in the action-comedy “Hidden Strike,” starring Jackie Chan and John Cena. Meanwhile, “The Witcher” returned to first place for TV. Read on for this week’s analysis.
Directed by Scott Waugh (“Need for Speed”), “Hidden Strike” was produced independently and sold to Netflix for worldwide streaming rights, a wise purchase considering that the film received 22 million views since quietly hitting the streamer last Friday. It was the #1 watched movie in roughly 50 territories worldwide, and made the Top 10 in 73 countries. Oddly, the United States was not one of them, since that honor went to “They Cloned Tyrone,” which received 11.1 million views worldwide in its first full week on Netflix, enough for third place.

Twenty minutes into Scott Waugh’s Hidden Strike, we get a sandstorm. By then, the movie has successfully established an intriguing premise and is heading towards Mad Max: Fury Road territory. In fact, one of the main leads, the living legend Jackie Chan, drives a bus toward the storm, which essentially adds to the thrill quotient of the movie. Considering how the action genre has been reinvigorated lately thanks to the likes of John Wick 4 and Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning, it is not surprising to see a movie like Hidden Strike trying to be innovative.
Despite having John Cena and Jackie Chan, two actors you wouldn’t usually associate with the new breed of action movies, Hidden Strike takes off in a fantastic manner. Megan Fox is the newest mercenary joining Sylvester Stallone to stop nuclear armed terrorists aboard a cargo ship in the first trailer to “The Expendables 4” trailer (aka “EXPEND4BLES”). The ensemble action film opens in theaters on Sept. 22.
Along with Fox, a new generation of stars join the world’s top action stars for an adrenaline-fueled adventure in “EXPEND4BLES.” Reuniting as the team of elite mercenaries, Jason Statham, Dolph Lundgren, Randy Couture and Stallone are joined for the first time by Fox, Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, Tony Jaa, Iko Uwais, Jacob Scipio, Levy Tran and Andy Garcia.
Armed with every weapon they can get their hands on and the skills to use them, the Expendables are the world’s last line of defense and the team that gets called when all other options are off the table. But new team members with new styles and tactics are going to give “new blood” a whole new meaning.

The long-in-development, at least from a post-production point-of-view, action comedy “Hidden Strike” has its first trailer, which you can watch above. That means the Jackie Chan/John Cena team-up flick, which was shot back in 2018, may finally reach cinemas or at least VOD. The film, initially titled “Snafu,” became a consistent victim of changing circumstances but external and internal.
The film was green-lit and shot amid a resurgence specifically in China for Jackie Chan-fronted actioners like “Kung Fu Yoga” and “Skiptrace.” The latter was also a (partially) English-language romp starring Johnny Knoxville in a clear attempt to recapture some of that “Rush Hour” or “Shanghai Knights” magic from the late 1990s and early 2000s.
“Skiptrace” earned $131 million in 2016 while the former globe-trotting adventure film “Kung Fu Yoga” earned $256 million in 2017. “Since then, “The Climbers” earned $174 million in 2019, but Covid obviously put a damper on such robust earnings for a moment.

Fresh off the $1 billion-plus success of “The Super Mario Bros. Movie,” the next big-deal video game adaptation has dropped its first trailer and poster. Rather than attempt to make a workable fictional narrative from a series of racing video games, the filmmakers have opted to adapt a true story connected to the games.
The film, penned by Jason Hall and Zach Baylin, and helmed by “District 11” director Neil Blomkamp, is based on the true story of Jann Mardenborough (played by Archie Madekwe in the film) whose video game skills won a series of Nissan competitions and allowed him a shot at being an actual race car driver. “From Gamer to Racer,” the tagline states and it’s an interesting narrative that would be intriguing even sans the IP surrounding it.

If I had a nickel for every time Hollywood developed a video game movie that isn't technically a video game movie, I'd have two nickels -- which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it's happened twice recently.
Yes, "Tetris" isn't the only 2023 movie that focuses more on a video game's real-world impact than the game itself. The other one is Neill Blomkamp's "Gran Turismo," a true story drama about Jann Mardenborough (played by "Midsommar" and "Beau Is Afraid" actor Archie Madekwe) and how he went from a kid playing "Gran Turismo" video games to becoming a professional race car driver. The footage shown at Sony's CinemaCon panel presented the film -- which was penned by "American Sniper" scribe Jason Hall and "King Richard" writer Zach Baylin -- as a "Top Gun"-styled rah-rah depiction of a U.S. institution crossed with a real-life underdog sports biopic. That certainly tracks,...

Hey jabronis — listen up! "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" is returning for season 16 this summer, and series creator and star Rob McElhenney has teased a very special crossover via social media. The gang from "Always Sunny" broke bad long ago, so it only makes sense that Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul of "Breaking Bad" stopped by the "It's Always Sunny" set. McElhenney posted a photo of the gang hanging out at Paddy's Pub with Cranston and Paul, who played the meth kingpins of Albuquerque on the hit AMC series and in the well-executed but unnecessary Netflix follow-up film, "El Camino." There are no details about the episode yet, and it's entirely possible that the guys only appear for one scene and McElhenney is just messing with us, but there are plenty of possibilities for this incredible crossover.

Arnold Schwarzenegger is finally returning to the action genre four years after his last film. "Breakout," a prison escape thriller from director Scott Waugh, is currently set to begin shooting later this year, according to Deadline. The film will end up marking the first time Schwarzenegger has appeared on the big screen since 2019, when he starred in the legacy sequel "Terminator: Dark Fate." Although the former action superstar and ex-governor of California has a number of additional projects in the works, "Breakout" seems to be the most classically Schwarzenegger-ian action movie on his docket and places the actor in the lead role.
Schwarzenegger famously stepped away from the limelight to pursue his political career for several years, prior to returning to acting. He made a small cameo in 2010's "The Expendables," which released near the end of his governorship, before becoming part of the main cast in the next two sequels.
