His Pan-Asian cast includes former Chinese child actor and action star Xie Miao, Indonesia’s Joe Taslim (The Raid: Redemption), Thailand’s Jeeja Yanin (Chocolate), Yang Enyu and Indonesia’s Yayan Ruhian (The Raid: Redmeption). Producer Sam Raimi unleashed some gnarly cheese grater horror in last year’s Evil Dead Rise, and his next film as producer is armed with the very same skin-obliterating weapon.
I’m of course talking about Boy Kills World, which stars Bill Skarsgård as a deaf-mute action hero. The film from producers Sam Raimi and Roy Lee is described as “a one-of-a-kind action spectacle set in a dystopian fever dream reality,” and Lionsgate and Roadside Attractions are bringing it to theaters on April 26. How about a gory Red Band clip while you wait?!
Boy Kills World is rated “R” for “Strong bloody violence and gore throughout, language, some drug use and sexual references.” Preview some of the gory violence below…
Moritz Mohr directed Boy Kills World, which was written by Arend Remmers (Sløborn) and Tyler Burton Smith (Kung Fury: The Movie).

After playing Pennywise and before playing Nosferatu and Eric Draven, Bill Skarsgård takes on the role of a deaf-mute action hero in Boy Kills World, a one-of-a-kind action spectacle set in a dystopian fever dream reality. The film comes from producers Sam Raimi and Roy Lee, and Bloody Disgusting has got the Red Band trailer you’ve been waiting for.
The Boy Kills World Red Band trailer plays up the humor, manic energy and “kill fest” violence of the film, with one particular pull quote from Daily Beast referring to the bloody experience as “R-rated Looney Tunes on acid.” The film is indeed rated “R” for “Strong bloody violence and gore throughout, language, some drug use and sexual references.”

Bill Skarsgård has quickly become an actor whose very presence in a film suggests something twisted is about to go down -- that's what happens when you play a child-eating clown monster in two of the highest-grossing horror movies of all time. But where "Barbarian" cleverly used that foreknowledge to subvert audience expectations and "John Wick: Chapter 4" embraced it by casting the "It" star as the slimeball Marquis Vincent Bisset de Gramont, Moritz Mohr splits the difference in his feature directing debut, "Boy Kills World." Instead of casting Skarsgård as a blood-thirsty killer, the film casts him as a righteous killer in the vein of John Wick himself. And you know what? It might just work!
While it didn't exactly blow critics away last year during its premiere at the 2023 Toronto International Film Festival, "Boy Kills World" still managed to garner praise for its distinct blend of bloody slapstick action and irreverent comedy.

It's a new year, so it's time for a new Blu-ray round-up! Our first of 2024! Things are a little sparse here in at the start of the year, but there's still some great stuff to check out. We have Eli Roth's holiday slasher "Thanksgiving" to carve things up. Also, the fine folks at Kino Lorber have released John Woo's bonkers action extravaganza "Face/Off" on 4K! "Face/Off" is technically a December release, but we're including it now. Speaking of action, we also have a 4K release of Gareth Evans' "The Raid," aka "The Raid: Redemption." Finally, on the non-action movie front, we have the Criterion release of John Sayles' Western neo-noir character drama "Lone Star."
So let's get to it. And remember to keep spinning those discs.

XYZ Films knows a good thing when they see it, and that’s why the studio preemptively purchased the U.S. rights to Skyline: Warpath, a sequel in the Skyline universe starring Iko Uwais and Scott Adkins. Liam O’Donnell (Beyond Skyline) directs the threequel from his own script, with filming taking place in Indonesia. You can check out Uwais and Adkins in the first-look images from Skyline: Warpath above and below.
Joining Uwais and Adkins and cast members are Louis Mandylor, Randall J. Bacon, and Yayan Ruhain.

JoBlo’s own Chris Bumbray got to see director Moritz Mohr’s dystopian action thriller Boy Kills World, which stars Bill Skarsgard (It) and Jessica Rothe (Happy Death Day), at the Toronto International Film Festival last month, and you can read his 8/10 review of the film at This Link. While we wait to hear when the movie is going to receive a proper release, Empire has gotten their hands on a new image – which can be seen at the bottom of this article – and talked to Mohr about getting the legendary Sam Raimi on board as producer.
Boy Kills World was scripted by Arend Remmers (Sløborn) and Tyler Burton Smith (Kung Fury: The Movie). The story takes place in a bizarre, dark dystopian universe and centers on a deaf and mute character, Boy (Skarsgård), who navigates this depressing world with his otherworldly imagination. Tragedy strikes when Boy’s family is brutally murdered.

In an ideal world, Netflix's weekly Top 10 would make it easier for films that didn't deserve to flop at the box office to connect with viewers. That's not the case, of course. Instead, the streamer's weekly list of its most-watched films is typically dominated by oddities or forgettable genre movies from years past. Every once in a while, however, the Netflix algorithm gets it right and either breathes fresh life into a treasured gem or, in this week's case, further affirms a film's well-earned cult status.

Update: It looks like the Cannes trailer that went up earlier was in fact a leak so we had to take it down. Nonetheless, it did its job, which was to create a bit of buzz for this really cool looking epic. Hopefully the official release happens soon!
Original Post: A release date still hasn’t been announced for director Moritz Mohr’s dystopian action thriller Boy Kills World, which stars Bill Skarsgard (It) and Jessica Rothe (Happy Death Day) – but while we wait for that information, a mysterious “Cannes trailer” for the film has made its way online, and you can check it out in the embed above!
Boy Kills World has been rated R for strong bloody violence and gore throughout, language, some drug use and sexual references… and you can see some of the reasons for that rating in the Cannes trailer.

Musician-turned-director Flying Lotus (Kuso) recently directed a segment in Bloody Disgusting’s V/H/S/99, and his next project will be a sci-fi thriller titled Ash. Today, EW brings a first look at leads Eiza Gonzalez and Aaron Paul in the mysterious project.
Ash is said to center on ”a woman (Eiza González) who wakes up on a distant planet and finds the crew of her space station viciously killed, and must then decide if she can trust the man (Aaron Paul) sent to rescue her. But as their investigation into what happened sets in motion a terrifying chain of events, he begins to wonder how innocent she really is.”
Paranoia and trust issues in space? We’re in.
Gonzalez told EW, “We don’t wanna really give away too much, but I would consider it like a sci-fi/thriller horror movie.”
Neill Blomkamp (District 9) will be producing the upcoming feature.

From producers Sam Raimi (Evil Dead, Drag Me to Hell, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness) and Roy Lee (It, Doctor Sleep, Don’t Worry Darling) comes the upcoming action-thriller Boy Kills World. The film is said to be a “one-of-a-kind action spectacle set in a dystopian fever dream reality,” and it’s definitely releasing with a hard “R” rating.
Boy Kills World has been Rated “R” by the MPA this week for, “Strong bloody violence and gore throughout, language, some drug use and sexual references.”
Stay tuned for the official trailer, which is likely coming soon.
In Boy Kills World, “Boy (Bill Skarsgård) is a deaf-mute with a vibrant imagination. When his family is murdered, Boy escapes to the jungle and is trained by a mysterious shaman to repress his childish imagination and become an instrument of death.”

We’re waiting to hear news of a release date for director Moritz Mohr’s dystopian action thriller Boy Kills World, which stars Bill Skarsgard (It) and Jessica Rothe (Happy Death Day)… and it looks like that news might not be too far off at this point. It seems to be near because the movie has just secured its rating from the Motion Picture Association, and it’s a rating that makes the movie sound quite promising to me. Boy Kills World has been rated R for strong bloody violence and gore throughout, language, some drug use and sexual references.

(Welcome to Best Action Scene Ever, a column dedicated to breaking down the best, most effective action sequences throughout the genre. In this edition, it's time to take a look at the bone-crunching brutality of the extended hallway sequence in Gareth Evans' "The Raid: Redemption.")
There has never been one "right" way to film action. Hong Kong cinema has obviously made its mark on multiple generations of directors and 1980s filmmaking may have popularized the musclebound, quasi-superhero lead who can take even more punishment than they dish out. (Don't worry, we will absolutely get around to "Die Hard" in this column at some point.) In more recent vintage, you have the frenetic, shaky-cam chaos of the "Bourne" movies that somehow managed to coexist along with the almost balletic precision of "John Wick."

Action films of all types and budgets are coming out left and right. With all the streaming services, direct-to-vod, and smaller theater runs, films that may not even have gotten greenlit at all years ago are making it to our eyeballs fairly easily. With so many titles coming, which ones should everyone look forward to? Here are five action films that are coming out relatively soon that we’re looking forward to.
Darkness of Man (2023)
The new Jean-Claude Van Damme flick just wrapped and should be coming out later this year. It’s being labelled as a neo-noir action thriller. The story follows an Interpol operative played by Jcvd who ends up entangled in a gang turf war when he takes an informant’s son under his wing. Of course, things go from bad to worse, and some Jcvd heroics are needed to save the day. The film comes courtesy...

No other country can hold a candle to South Korea at present when it comes to the production of violent thrillers, and despite its bargain basement title, Project Wolf Hunting will have you on the edge of your seat. Like Con Air but on a cargo ship, with the addition of a genetically engineered monster and a body count to rival The Raid, it’s an all-action spectacular with some smart ideas which sustains itself surprisingly well over a full two hours.
The prisoners, who are a mixed bunch but include some notoriously violent individuals, are being transported on the cargo ship ‘to minimise danger to the public,’ or so we are told. The journey takes three days during which they are kept shackled, with one toilet break each per day – which means that, aside from anything else, it’s soon going to smell pretty bad in there. Male and female.

Filmmaker Michael Bay is facing charges in Italy related to the killing of a pigeon on the 2018 set of the Netflix blockbuster “6 Underground,” TheWrap has exclusively learned.
Bay, who has made several attempts to clear the case with Italian authorities — to no avail — categorically denied the allegations Thursday.
“I am a well-known animal lover and major animal activist,” Bay said in a statement to TheWrap. “No animal involved in the production was injured or harmed. Or on any other production I’ve worked on

A new image from first-time feature director Moritz Mohr’s dystopian action thriller Boy Kills World has started making the social media rounds. "If this isn't hell… I don't know what is." This looks extra crazy!! Project Wolf Hunting is written and directed by Hong-seon Kim, and it first premiered at the Toronto Film Festival a few months ago, opening in theaters in the US in October. The gory, hyper violent, extremely bloody action film follows dangerous criminals on a cargo ship who are being transported from the Philippines to South Korea, as they unleash a sinister force after an escape attempt leads to a riot. The cast features Seo In-guk, Jang Dong-yoon, Sung Dong-il, & Jung So-min. If this trailer doesn't get your attention, the reviews say: "Project Wolf Hunting is pure insanity! If you grew up in a small Welsh village and studied for a career in documentary filmmaking, what would be the logical next step? Make a string of high-intensity Indonesian action movies, of course. And that's exactly what director Gareth Evans did after becoming captivated by the martial art of Pencak silat. His breakthrough effort, "The Raid" or in the US "The Raid: Redemption" gained widespread recognition for its non-stop action and brutal fight scenes. The movie showcased Pencak silat, and relative newcomer Iko Uwais as rookie cop Rama, in a way that hadn't really been seen before — at least in the west. And the plot? As simple as 20 cops fighting their way through 30 floors of a tower block to bring down one drug dealer.
And it was a winning formula, with reviews for the movie proving as bombastic as the film itself. The Hollywood Reporter called it a "hard-driving,...

It goes the same every year; the holidays are a time for joy and renewal, and the new year is a time to throw it all away, recover emotionally, and ignore real life until February (at least). We’re talking peak winter, existential angst — the kind of things you can’t face down without a warm blanket and a weekend TV marathon.

Following a series of films that are quite brutal or horrific (or both), Timo Tjahjanto decided to change his style a bit, by implementing intense comic elements in his narrative in a distinctly comic-book style, retaining, though, the aforementioned aspects. The result is “The Big 4”, which has now started to stream on Netflix.
The intro scene of the movie sets the tone for what is about to follow, as it starts inside an orphanage whose owners use the kids in order to harvest organs. Enter the titular Big 4, leader Topan, sniper Jenggo, tempered Alpha, the only woman of the group, and youngster Pelor, who save the children there while creating mayhem in their path, killing the bad guys in the most brutal, to the point of funny, ways. A bit later on, it is revealed that the group also has a leader, Petrus, who coordinates their efforts, while retaining a father-children relationship with them.

For fans of action TV and martial arts cinema, "Gangs of London" is one of the greatest series of the modern era. Created by Matt Flannery and "The Raid" director Gareth Evans, series director Corin Hardy has crafted a high-octane gangland thriller with the kind of stunts you don't typically see on TV. Season 1 ended with the series' mysterious Investors achieving apparent victory in their efforts to eliminate Sean Wallace (Joe Cole), replace him as head of the Wallace Organization, and get back to business as usual. Meanwhile, undercover cop Elliot (Ṣọpẹ́ Dìrísù) finds himself in a bind that only changing alliances can solve. Now working for the villainous Investors, Elliot has to get himself free from their grasp.

Horror movies like Deep Fear take place underground, and they are often the most effective as far as compelling scares go. They evoke a fear that everyone can understand. Trap someone in a confined, dark space below ground, then have them be pursued by someone (or something) — it’s a simple but winning formula.
Screambox‘s latest release Deep Fear, as well as the nine other movies below, reinforce feelings of claustrophobia and remind you of what possible evils could be hiding below the surface. As Above, So Below, The Descent, C.H.U.D., Creep and The Midnight Meat Train are all familiar examples of this subgenre, but this list focuses on underseen movies set underground.

Joel Kinnaman (The Suicide Squad) recently wrapped working on John Woo’s Christmas Eve action movie Silent Night, which is said to play out entirely without dialogue. Now he has signed on to star in the action thriller The Silent Hour, which is set to be directed by Brad Anderson (The Call). Deadline reports that the project is being funded by AGC Studios. AGC is also producing the film and will be presenting The Silent Hour to potential distributors at the upcoming American Film Market.
Anderson will be directing The Silent Hour from a screenplay by Dan Hall. Spoilers for season 1 of Gangs of London
An action-packed crime drama from the mind of The Raid’s Gareth Evans, Gangs of London thrilled viewers during the 2020 lockdown with its sprawling, complex first season. Centred around the death of London crime kingpin Finn Wallace and the power vacuum it creates, the show introduced us to a variety of international criminal factions all vying to be the city’s top dogs.
With many of season one’s dangling threads likely to be picked up in season two (now in the hands of regular series director Corin Hardy), what better time to revisit the shadowy goings-on of the show’s alt-universe London? If you don’t have 10 hours to spare though, don’t worry… Join us as we boil down the complexities of season one’s key plot points – including the major players, rivalries and revelations…

Sequel to the great Satan’s Slaves, “Communion” is the first Indonesian film to be released in IMAX format, and a huge box office success which has already become the third highest-grossing Indonesian film of all time, with 6.3 million viewers.
Satan’s Slaves 2: Communion is available from Shudder
The film begins in the 50’s actually, when a photographer is “invited” by a friend into a truly hellish setting, where a number of bodies have been exhumed and used for some sort of satanic ritual, with the friend asking the photographer to do everything in his power to let people know about what is happening. Back in the 80s, several years after they managed to save themselves from the terrible events that resulted in the death of their mother and the youngest sibling, Ian, the family are now living in a block of flats. As recently reported, Marvel Studios has tweaked a good-sized chunk of its upcoming release schedule, shifting the release dates of five confirmed movies and taking one unannounced one off the calendar for now. The films that are moving include some biggies like Fantastic Four and Avengers: Secret Wars, but the whole thing – because any MCU moves tend to have a domino effect – seemed to start with the studio’s reboot of Blade being shot out of its November 2023 berth all the way to September 2024.
That was precipitated by the departure of director Bassim Tariq from the project, less than two months before production was scheduled to start, along with reports that the film’s screenplay needed quite a bit of work. Clearly Blade – which was first announced way back in July 2019 when star Mahershala Ali walked onstage wearing a hat bearing the movie’s title – is in a bit of a rough spot right now.

This Civil War thriller has so much truth to say about War, Patriotism and combatant-vs.-civilian terror that we can hardly believe it was released in 1954. It’s based on a true event from 1864, a daring undercover mission that hit the Union far away from the conventional fighting. Van Heflin is the vengeance-seeking advance agent, Anne Bancroft a war widow, Richard Boone a maimed Union veteran and Lee Marvin a loose cannon with a hair trigger. The anti-war message is stronger than anything from the Vietnam years! The 20th-Fox release is not on quality home video, and is in great need of restoration.

Tis the season to be spooky! Halloween, or ‘weird kid Christmas’ is coming soon, along with the shortening of days, darkening of nights and encrappening of the weather. All the long dark evenings are all the better to hunker down and catch up on your horror movie watching. We have scoured Netflix back catalogue to pick out the best horror movies. Weirdly, the streamer hasn’t actually added any great new horror content this month (unless you count Hotel Transylvania 2) but fortunately there’s a great selection on the service already to choose from. There’s something for every horror hound!
47 Meters Down
UK Only
Amidst the many modern shark movies, 47 Meters Down happens to be one of the best. This is partly because the premise is extremely simple and extremely effective. Two sisters (Claire Holt and Mandy Moore) are stuck in a shark cage at the bottom of the ocean.

“The Raid” director Gareth Evans struck gold in 2020 with “Gangs Of London.” Based on the 2006 video game of the same name, the show was a fast favorite in the UK on Sky Atlantic before AMC picks up the US broadcast rights; then the show really took off. Now, the show returns with its much-anticipated second season, with London’s soul hanging in the balance.
