Sukhee - A Humorous Journey of Self-Discovery
sanahashamkhan11 January 2024
Sukhee is a delightful slice-of-life film that intricately weaves humor, emotions, and relatable characters into the fabric of its narrative. The story revolves around Sukhpreet "Sukhee" Kalra, brilliantly portrayed by Shilpa Shetty Kundra, who embarks on a journey of self-discovery after growing tired of her monotonous routine.

The standout feature of Sukhee is the exceptional chemistry among the friends, particularly the characters played by Amit Sadh and Kusha Kapila. Amit Sadh's Vikram Verma adds depth to the storyline, while Kusha Kapila's Meher Chhibber injects the perfect dose of humor. The ensemble cast delivers commendable performances, creating a believable and engaging world.

The film beautifully captures the struggles of a housewife, shedding light on the challenges Sukhee faces in her everyday life. The portrayal of Sukhee's relationship with her grandfather, played by Vinod Nagpal, is heartwarming and adds a layer of emotional resonance to the narrative. The unconditional support provided by Sukhee's grandfather is a testament to the strength of familial bonds.

Sukhee's journey unfolds over seven days during her high school reunion in Delhi, allowing for a unique blend of nostalgia and self-discovery. Shilpa Shetty Kundra effortlessly carries the film, portraying Sukhee's transformation from a wife and mother to a woman rediscovering herself.

While the film successfully captures the essence of Sukhee's rejuvenation, it occasionally falters in pacing, with certain scenes feeling a bit rushed. Additionally, some subplots could have been further explored to enhance the overall depth of the storyline.

In conclusion, Sukhee is a refreshing take on the challenges faced by women, blending humor and heart in a captivating manner. The stellar performances make it a worthwhile watch. Despite minor pacing issues, Sukhee succeeds in delivering a poignant message about self-discovery and the importance of embracing one's true identity.

Nice movie

Nice movie. I apologize for any confusion, but as of my last knowledge update in January 2022, I don't have information on a movie titled "Sukhee." It's possible that it was released or became known after that date. If you have specific details or if "Sukhee" is a hypothetical title, let me know, and I can create a fictional movie review for you. Seems inspired by: "Romy and Michele's High School Reunion" (1997)
NewYorkDude21 November 2023
"Sukhee" and "Romy and Michele's High School Reunion" both revolve around the central theme of revisiting the past and redefining oneself. In both movies, the main characters attend their high school reunions, which act as catalysts for self-discovery and transformation. Sukhee, a housewife, and Romy and Michele, long-time friends, confront their pasts and the dissatisfaction with their current lives during these reunions. The experiences at these reunions allow them to rediscover aspects of themselves that were lost or forgotten over time, leading to significant personal growth and change. While Sukhee's journey is more about rediscovering her individuality beyond her roles as a wife and mother, Romy and Michele's adventure focuses on confronting their insecurities and the desire to impress others. Both stories highlight the impact of reconnecting with one's past and the importance of self-acceptance.

Sukhee is a thought-provoking Bollywood movie that sheds light on the struggles and aspirations of married women, emphasizing the importance of motivation and pursuing one's dreams even after marriage. Directed by a talented team, this film successfully captures the essence of a married woman's journey, delivering a powerful and relatable message.

The story revolves around the life of Sukhee, a married woman who finds herself trapped in the mundane routine of household chores and societal expectations. Through Sukhee's character, the movie beautifully portrays the challenges faced by many married women, who often sacrifice their own dreams and passions for the sake of their families.

What sets Sukhee apart is its ability to present a realistic portrayal of the complexities that married women face. The film delves deep into Sukhee's emotional turmoil, showcasing her internal conflicts and the yearning to pursue her own aspirations. This aspect resonates strongly with the audience, as it highlights the universal struggle of balancing personal desires with societal obligations.

The film's screenplay deserves special mention, as it skillfully weaves together Sukhee's personal journey with moments of inspiration and motivation. The narrative is engaging, keeping the viewers hooked throughout the movie. The pacing is well-managed, allowing the story to unfold gradually, while maintaining a consistent level of intrigue.

The performances in Sukhee are commendable, with the lead actress delivering a compelling portrayal of Sukhee's emotional journey. Her nuanced performance captures the frustration, determination, and eventual empowerment that Sukhee experiences. The supporting cast also shines, adding depth and authenticity to the overall narrative.

Another notable aspect of Sukhee is its cinematography and visual aesthetics. The film beautifully captures the contrasting worlds of Sukhee's personal aspirations and her domestic life. The use of colors and lighting effectively enhances the mood and atmosphere, adding a layer of visual storytelling to the film.

While Sukhee effectively addresses important themes and delivers a strong message, some parts of the movie could have been further explored and developed. Certain subplots and character arcs feel slightly rushed, leaving the audience wanting more depth and resolution.

Overall, Sukhee is an empowering and thought-provoking Bollywood film that highlights the struggles and aspirations of married women. With its relatable narrative, strong performances, and beautiful visual aesthetics, the movie successfully encourages viewers to reflect on the importance of motivation and pursuing dreams, even after marriage.

Nice women's self-respect movie. The Punjabi flavour in the tune might work for upper-northern audiences but not others. Sonal Joshi is more guilty of approving the story than directing it with her mediocre vision. More than Sonal, I'd blame Radhika Anand, Paulomi Dutta, and Rupinder Inderjit for not giving her a single new buck. Horrible
Sarah79719894 March 2024
Sukhee is about a couple that met in college and got married. So far so good. Here is why the story is horrifying: The man is the breadwinner, not because he's better educated or smarter but just because he is the MAN. He treats his wife terribly and his conversational skills towards her are very poor. They have a daughter together but he knows nothing about her. It's very hard to built any kind of sympathy towards the man. The woman is educated and has many skills but willingly underperforms in her own life.

Who writes a story like this in this age and time. Very outdated narrative. The writers have absolutely no clue what they are doing. They added all cliches of the 60s and 70s movie in this movie. The example the writers give to the young audience is not up to the current standards.

The actors did overall a decent job. They might be shy for money that they decided to sign for this movie.

To conclude, the movie is a major flop. I don't recommend watching it.

Sukhee's Fight For A Woman's Self-Respect Nears Almost Dukhee End
SAMTHEBESTEST22 September 2023
Sukhee (2023) : Movie Review:

After Ad-eing a few known films, Sonal Joshi makes her directorial debut with Sukhee, led by Shilpa Shetty. The subject of women's empowerment is becoming too mainstream nowadays, with at least one film made on it in a year. It seems like writers, directors, and artists are out of stories, and that's why they are running behind what's been done before, trying to redecorate the bygone formula. Bollywood has a glorious history of women-oriented classics like "Aurat" (1940), "Parineeta" (1953), "Mother India" (1957), "Sujatha" (1959), "Anuradha" (1960), and "Bandini" (1963), among many more wave-changing films made in the 70s and 90s. The definition of this theme was well defined by the genius filmmakers and well preserved by the audiences over the years. Frankly, today it has become a joke. Alankrita Srivastava thinks woman empowerment means freedom of sex, while Rhea Kapoor thought female private talks were taboo for today's urban generation. That's why those old classics have remained on top and so special that no one can touch them. Someone from down South thought about making a Tamil classic like "Gargi" (2002) that restored my faith in woman-empowering cinema. I felt like, "Yes, it's alive". Then we have had several Bollywood films in the last decade, but none of them has become memorable enough, except for Vikas Bahl's "Queen" (2013) and Gauri Shinde's "English Vinglish" (2012)-films that actually dealt with unique female problems without losing sanity and sophisticated values. Sukhee is far too outdated for the race. "Bedharak, Besharam, Beparwah!" That's the motto this film intends to carry, and it does it successfully too. It's only that it hasn't much to do with the main context of the film.

Sukhee (Shilpa Shetty) has been married for 20 years (never looked so old anyway) and is unhappy with her broken life. She is being treated disrespectfully by her husband and her teenage daughter. After the demise of the only person who cared for her, her father-in-law, she decides to go back to New Delhi for a reunion with her college-time girlfriends. The gang of 4 reunites and has a gala time, and these two days make Sukhee actually sukhee (happy). However, this happy period makes her relationship with her husband and daughter strained. She learns about her mistakes and how she wasn't thinking about her self-respect for the sake of her husband, daughter, and society. Her decision to go free and enjoy life turns the tide for her and her loved ones. Will she realise where to draw the line, and will her husband and daughter understand their mistakes?

Sukhee has the same old plot you see in at least one film every year, and the count might be two or three in today's OTT era. In the trailer and in the film, there is a dialogue by one of the characters, saying, "Har woman-oriented film ki kahaani same hi hoti hai". Well, the writer of this dialogue has already reviewed the film before us critics and audiences. It's so typical and outdated now that even writing this outdated word here looks so outdated to me. Sukhee just doesn't understand the modernization process at all. You could have seen it a decade ago and yet feel it's too mainstream and dated. We are almost a decade ahead now, and yet they are stuck to old ideas and traditional methods of storytelling. Every single scene reminds you of a certain Bollywood film from the last decade or two, and you feel like, "Is it a mash-up?" I don't understand this "sabki life imperfect nahi hoti" formula at all. Come on, we all know it, but we don't say it. That's too freaking cliche! The daughter talking about her mother, the husband overreacting to almost every action of her, the old wannabe boyfriend, the girls gang with no character graph, the same old no-talking father, and the same old neighbours-what's not there that isn't copied or seen before? Why can't we see at least one sensible character who is intelligent and smart enough about its behaviour and its language? It seems that Bimal Roy and Mehboob Khan took that talent with them to heaven. Today's filmmakers are making films only to go to Narak (as Sukhee tells her father-in-law).

Shilpa Shetty's attempt at character-driven films is somewhat successful, but she needs to surrender to the character instead of trying to be glamorous. Nikamma went horribly wrong in the climax, Hungama 2 is not even discussable, and Sukhee is half-baked cake for her. She does look good in some scenes, especially the emotional ones. But what a terrible mismatch she is to the young part. Those prosthetics, hairdos, and all that transfer you to a low-grade cinema from a PVR multiplex. The tinder fame Kusha Kapila is looking to settle in Bollywood nowadays, but she needs to be better at acting to hold the ground here. Just good looks, a few abusive dialogues (with perfect dialogue delivery, mind you), and a wannabe sensational attitude would take her nowhere. Amit Sadh joins the party late, and I was expecting him to end my wait for the first sensible character, but even he went wrong. Pavleen Gujral and Dilnaz Irani's characters are too stretched, but they have been able to pull off a decent show. Chaitanya Choudhry, Kiran Kumar, Vinod Nagpal, Purnima Rathod, Sejal Gupta, Komal Sachdeva, and others offer nothing impressive in the supporting roles.

Sukhee isn't placed on a heavy budget, so it's quite understandable why it has some issues with the production design. The cinematography and editing are better than expected, while the background score could have been better. I wish Sukhee had at least one wild, go-crazy type of song to explore the madness of feminism. The opportunity is missed, though. Why don't we have some kind of demonization in Bollywood that will force filmmakers and writers to use only new ideas? Sukhee is not a fully Dukhee film, and that's its biggest achievement. But why waste 135 minutes on that? The film was almost nearing a dukhee end by the time it was over. Sorry, but feminism deserves better stories.

man vs women equality
herbsidhu15 December 2023
Another bollywood movie where they showed men not treating well their partner but missing major parts what her husband have to do to bring food and happiness on table. No one talk about that in movie man haven't taken any vacations but continues towards hustling for family. Suddenly his have to go on vacation because she is tired from household work, why she didn't thought that her husband also need time off. Moreover she fell in love with her schoolmate , on the other side husband making food and doing his job as well. Wife loves the time she spending with her flirted. No wonder, bollywood never take side of man. Her husband tries best but still he is not enough. Bollywood writers are joke, hense proved in this movie .

Could have been great but falls back on average by the end
nidhikakaty4 December 2023
Sukhee started off as a very relatable movie but it is again time travelling back to the same character of shilpa shetty in life in a metro. End of the day, nothing changes and what could have been a very strong storyline falls back to the same old story line of going back to your husband at the end of the day because he came and said a few lines about being sorry 1 fine day. Don't get me wrong, please. I understand the importance of family but for someone to make a story of this sort and to show women are not just door mats for their husband and children to walk over I guess it would have made much more sense if she actually did end up living in her own terms and actually choosing the green flag in her life but I guess, this is it and this is Bollywood taking 1 step towards being safer and a 100 steps from being an awesome storyline.

Cheesy, predictable and shallow, with a tiny saving grace
al202319 November 2023
I understand that the movie is made for a certain audience, keeping that in mind I'm giving it a four even though it deserves maybe like a two. I could've given it a five I guess. The storyspace had some potential and they had a leading actress but It didn't really go anywhere or do anything fresh with it. There are small budget films that I have seen coming out of India that really do come up with fresh and new ideas and either are funny or give a unique perspective Such as Kathal, Do dooni chaar, nil batte sannaata. This Film didn't do any of that and it was boring for a slightly more sophisticated and younger audience. This is the equivalent of Christmas movies from the US that are thoroughly brain hurting and cheesy. If the audience is older and from a small place they might like it, I sat through it and now I want my 120 minutes back. To be fair, I am not at all a typical viewer for this kind of a movie so take what I'm saying with a pinch of salt.

Great Movie!
navaneethkp-9687721 November 2023
From the relatable saga of dealing with nosy neighbors to the profound moments of childbirth and the dynamics with a spouse, the movie encapsulates the essence of married life. It eloquently portrays the complexities of maintaining relationships, rekindling friendships, coping with parental loss, and even the exhilarating yet tumultuous journey of falling in love once more.

What sets this film apart is its nuanced approach. It doesn't lay blame on a single factor for the challenges faced in the marriage. Instead, it beautifully illustrates the transformative power of understanding the worth of a partner, realigning priorities, and embracing a fresh start surrounded by the warmth of close family members.

Personally, I found it incredibly moving and resonant. The way it portrays the evolution of relationships and the protagonist's journey towards self-realization is simply captivating. It's a testament to the film's depth and authenticity that it touches upon such a wide array of emotions and life moments without losing its poignancy.

In essence, I adored every moment of it. The way it delicately wove together these intricate threads of life's tapestry left me utterly captivated and deeply touched. This kind of storytelling is what truly enriches the cinematic experience.

I adored it, totally and utterly.

Just couldn't bear this movie!
jayamukherjee-1408619 November 2023
I just couldn't bear this movie after 20 mins! Is the definition of an independent and happy woman is smoking cigarette (as shown in the movie)??!! Calling a Bengali lady and her kid as "Khadus Bangalan"??!!! I mean really??? Tired of seeing Women in every single movie and web series smoking, drinking and what not in the name of "Freedom"!!!! If a woman takes care of her house so does a Man by earning money he also deals with the world every single day!! So BIG DEAL!!! On the basis of what I saw in first 20-25 mins, calling a Bengali lady kadus, is just so wrong!! Just so done with Bollywood!!!

An attempt in vain, The Stars are only for Shilpa&Amit !
smkaur-752251 January 2024
Expectation was that it will be a fresh representation of a long standing societal issue. With a Good starcast which is the biggest resource for a movie like this , this movie fails to add a compelling feel to it due to a poorly written story. English Vinglish for an instance felt fresh, compelling, demanded urgent attention from the viewers, But Sukhee with a topic dealing with a similar genre utterly disappoints you with how it progresses and at a point it stands far away from reality, becomes shamingly predictable to a point that you just want to drag and finish it ASAP . Also the costume of the lead role dint quite fit into the storyline, which could have acted as a glue for viewers as well, Shilpa shetty could have been realistically represented as a Home Maker with a more authentic touch, She still looked plain gorgeous and at all not bored of life!!!! More work was required in bringing out the mundanity of the character as the entire story was rooted around it, Why am i adding this element in review is because the filmakers have chosen to speak via this angle also , unfortunately they subtly failed at this as well.

Special note: Kusha Kapila is plain annoying!! ! Maybe its the way her character is written or the way she has represented it it just made her unbearable.

Watch it 4 Shilpa Shetty's superb performance!
atiyauthmani26 November 2023
Not since Life in a Metro have we been able to catch a glimpse of Shilpa's superb acting skills. She should really consider returning to movies full-time and doing more meaty roles. She certainly has the acting chops for it.

Yes, it's a well-written, family comedy movie. Everyone's acting is up-to-par. The down-to-earth, everyday, comedic dialogues and the 4 best friends' banter feels really natural and well-written (there may even be some improv/ ad-lib bits, I'm not sure). Kausha Kapila, in particular, shines here. Though, it does get a bit preachy in the end, but kudos to the director for pulling everyone and everything together seamlessly. The star of the movie was, without a doubt, Shilpa Shetty. Take a bow, queen. A worthy come-back indeed!

Good first half and boring second half.
manish-4598120 November 2023
The first half of the movie was good. It was very gripping and well directed along with good acting. Then the second half ruined it for me. It got all over the place with Bollywood version of social issues portrayed by people who have never experienced them. The young CGI version of the actress was laughable and was taking the focus off off the movie- It was bad. Father daughter relationship was laughable and pretentious towards the end. Mother daughter relationship looked fake and laughable. The daughter's speech towards the end of the movie was utter nonsense and did not touch my heart like people's heart in the movie who were giving her standing ovation.

All about a human being
simaliroutray27 September 2023
Absolutely lovely movie with an amazing second half followed by a lil boring first half...It clearly highlights the natural shortcomings of being a human being irrespective of their gender veiling the gender disparity and breaking all pre conceived notions that people automatically associate with gender.... But sadly some people would neither appreciate not get inspired by this calling it a feminist movie for women empowerment. No one else other than Shilpa shetty would have been able to do justice with the character of sukhee. Worth watching, highly recommended and a must watch movie for multiple times.

Overkill
zaintariqmirza5 December 2023
Blown out of proportion. A woman gets mad at her husband and does EVERYTHING right. Gets back all her skills and everything overnight and everything goes right for her. The movie is all about how she was too cool to marry and yet she did and now she is suffering because the everyday married life is "boring".

The film's portrayal of women empowerment is not just heavy-handed; it's an egregious overkill that transforms a potentially relevant theme into a caricature. The narrative beats the audience over the head with its agenda, sacrificing any semblance of nuance or authenticity in the process. It seems more concerned with scoring points for a superficial feminist stance than with genuinely exploring the complexities of empowerment. This forced and exaggerated approach not only diminishes the impact of the message but also risks alienating viewers who might have appreciated a more thoughtful and balanced take on the subject. The film's relentless pursuit of empowerment becomes a self-defeating spectacle, drowning any meaningful conversation in a sea of theatrical and disconnected moments.

English Vinglish plot 50%
ishan-5042028 November 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Tried copying plot of English Vinglish but fails miserably. They have tried creating a movie with the feeling of English Vinglish story line where a common house wife struggles for her pride and importance and enjoys her life more after leaving her core family for some time. Just little twist is they had a love marriage and heroine was well educated. Otherwise point on point copy of English Vinglish. They should not have made this movie. Unnecessarily repeating of the plot which was having only one time success chance and it already got it in English Vinglish. So I felt it very boring and stretched a little.
