Sukhee (2023)
Cheesy, predictable and shallow, with a tiny saving grace
I understand that the movie is made for a certain audience, keeping that in mind I'm giving it a four even though it deserves maybe like a two. I could've given it a five I guess. The storyspace had some potential and they had a leading actress but It didn't really go anywhere or do anything fresh with it. There are small budget films that I have seen coming out of India that really do come up with fresh and new ideas and either are funny or give a unique perspective Such as Kathal, Do dooni chaar, nil batte sannaata. This Film didn't do any of that and it was boring for a slightly more sophisticated and younger audience. This is the equivalent of Christmas movies from the US that are thoroughly brain hurting and cheesy. If the audience is older and from a small place they might like it, I sat through it and now I want my 120 minutes back. To be fair, I am not at all a typical viewer for this kind of a movie so take what I'm saying with a pinch of salt.
Bombairiya (2019)
Very entertaining, gripping and funny - don't understand the bad reviews
The other reviews on imdb for Bombairiya were either extremely positive or negative. Nevertheless, I decided to give the movie a go as the premise seemed fairly intriguing. I'm so glad i did! The movie was very interesting from the beginning to the end. It was a good mix of thrills and laughs with endearing characters. Ofcourse there are a few areas that could have been improved upon to make the twists and turns in the plot more accessible to the lower denominator of the indian public, but then the movie would be less intriguing. I can thoroughly recommend the movie to people who liked films like Badla, do dooni chaar, dreamgirl, khosla ka ghosla, katthal.
They Cloned Tyrone (2023)
Great film. Trust me, stick through the first 15 minutes.
In the first fifteen minutes i wanted to switch it off as it was too ghetto and i was kind of bored with the conversations of the pimps, prostitutes and drug dealers. And then, bam, the film really started going somewhere. Thrill, action and suspense made the movie really take off. I'm glad i watched it. Was a good movie.
Even though the beginning of the story was not too my taste, the reason i didn't switch it off, was the very atmospheric cinematography and camera angles. You could see it was high quality filmmaking skills. The acting was really good and quite a few cameos.
The science fiction angle juxtaposed against a social examination within a known problematic mileue worked well.
Moon Knight (2022)
Brilliant story, acting and effects. Kept me engaged
Normally to watch Marvel productions, i have to become a child again and be open for a rather simplistic storytelling. This is different. I really am enjoying watching this series. The action packed plot with its twists and turns accompanied by brilliant direction and special effects has me hooked. The story is intriguing enough for me to watch it without feeling that i know what's coming next. There is a European touch to the series with a sprinkling of humour and pathos. I absolutely love it so far, and hope that the remaining episodes will be equally good. Would recommend it to anyone who likes to keep their brains on while getting entertained at the same time.
Star Trek: Discovery (2017)
Too much useless talk about feelings dominating screen space
The cgi effects are great and the finish is slick. The story has potential and there are a few interesting characters going through interesting psychological situations. However the excessive emoting and needles crying coupled with the whispered talking about feelings is sooooooo boring. If i had a cent for every time Michael Burnam cried i would be a millionaire by now. This should be called Star Trek Soap. I watched the show because I'ma great Star Trek fan however it was painful and i fast-forwarded most of unnecessary touchy-feely scenes due to their being so superficial. Fire the person who wrote these scenes in.
