Plucky filmmaking sadly makes for poor watch
info-942-7793777 March 2014
I caught this at the London Sci-Fi Festival with high expectations. It was the opening film and the stills looked interesting. Sadly the film was seriously poor, like it had been made out of old milk cartons and stitched together for an audience's benefit. It wasn't clear whether it was a comedy, or a mystery film, or a family drama. The script was really poor - very confusing and unsure what it was. The camera work was often OK but not the acting. Poor special effects belied no budget. A weird cast which seemed to lean towards ample-busomed ladies over acting skills. How anyone could give this 10 star I do not know. I give it 2 stars for putting the film together independently, but none for the watch. Hopefully the filmmakers will have learned from their experience and do something better in future. If not they should stick with the dayjobs.

Great movie by a great director

This is a story about a weird house and the weird family, two parents, two boys and two girls, who grew up there. It's a large, beautiful, but run down country house with acres of land. Their dead dad - James Jones, was an inventor who made something that made him a lot of money, so he bought a big house and had a big family. Unfortunately, although he invented many more things, nothing ever made any money after the first big payoff. His inventions became more and more weird and imaginative, but he just couldn't get it right. The family come together for the bereavement and this is where the intriguing plot happens. Great film

Strange and hard to review movie
Angel_Peter6 July 2020
A dysfunctional group of siblings gather at their childhood home after their dads death. All their old conflicts resurface and they try handling each other and their own past and try to find out how to move on.

The ghost of the dead brother also takes an active role in the movie. But not in a scary way. But really much a movie about coming to terms with what happened and their own reactions.

Would I recommend this movie? That is a hard one to answer. I did enjoy it a lot and I think it was a refreshing and sweet movie.. But if you are not to slow movies then stay away. Also a movie that is not really too serious even though serious subjects like loss. If you have an open mind and some imagination I think you can enjoy this movie a lot. I am not sure it really is a good movie for younger people though.
