Director Steven Spielberg, following up on his "Ready Player One" box office success, has added DC Comics' 1941 World War II action title "Blackhawk", to his feature film slate with Warner Bros.:
"It was wonderful working with the team at Warner Bros. to bring 'Ready Player One' to the screen", said Spielberg.
""They bring a blend of passion and professionalism to everything they do and have a tremendous history in this genre. I am excited to reunite with them on 'Blackhawk'..."
Created by Chuck Cuidera with input from both Bob Powell and "The Spirit" illustrator Will Eisner, 'Blackhawk' debuted in Quality Comics' "Military Comics" #1 (August 1941), with 'Blackhawk'. leading a 7-member team of World War II-era ace pilots of varied nationalities.

While the math is way off – there’s no more than one hundred, tops – The Night of a Thousand Cats (1972) offers 63 minutes (!) of outlandish fun, decadent behavior, and a proclivity towards the absurd. Just don’t expect a story from this Mexican release; it seems around thirty minutes were cut for the North American release, leaving behind a mess of the rest that is nevertheless very entertaining.
Released in Mexico in early August, Cats didn’t arrive stateside until November of ’74, where it came and went pretty quickly. Reviews were…well, what do you think? There still really hasn’t been a reconsideration of the film all these years later; it remains hanging out just below the surface of modern horror culture.
And by hanging out I mean mostly hiding from shame; Night has a couple moments where cats appear to be mishandled, and I’m pretty sure there weren...

In 2015 it was announced that Frightfest were set to bring us, under a “Frightfest Presents” banner, some of the horrific delights of their Glasgow and London festivals on DVD and VOD thanks to a partnership with Icon Film Distribution. And whilst that partnership did garner a number of releases – including the likes of Some Kind of Hate, Emelie, Night of the Living Deb and The Sand – the label went dark soon after, with not only the two-year deal coming to an end, but also likely due to the fact that Frightfest partner Icon had some financial woes in 2017, eventually been sold to Kaleidoscope in March of this year.
Skip forward to today and news reaches us that the Frightfest Presents label is reborn, this time in co-operation with Signature Entertainment – a label who we have supported since the early days of their direct to DVD B-movie start-up, with titles such as SnowBeast,...

By now you probably all know I have a soft spot for ridiculous shark movies, be they from Roger Corman, The Asylum, Syfy or anyone else… Which is why I always Have to subject myself to whatever treasures this disparate genre provide. Be it a Zombie Shark, Ghost Shark, Sharknado, Sharktopus, a 3-Head Shark, a Swamp Shark etc., etc…. whatever!?!
This time round we’ve got killer sharks and an environmental message in Ice Sharks. A Syfy channel originjal movie from The Asylum (so its a low-budget double-header) which sees a team of expert scientists are studying the effects of climate change on marine life at a research station deep in the Arctic. Suddenly, out of nowhere, hell breaks loose when a new breed of aggressive, ravenous sharks suddenly crack through...

Nope, you didn’t read that heading wrong. Despite sharing a similar title to That Indiana Jones film, Raiders of the Lost Shark is not a rip-roaring archaeological adventure, instead it’s the latest in a long line of creature-feature movies that have, for what seems like eons now, been a mainstay of the Syfy channel (see Mega Shark vs. Giant Octopus, Sharknado, Swamp Shark et al).
Four friends set out by boat for an idyllic vacation on a private, remote island. But unknown to them, a weaponized shark has escaped from a top secret military lab nearby, a shark that was genetically engineered with hate in its blood, and programmed to hunt any human within range. Now, these friends must band together to battle an all new brand of predator who will stop at nothing to remain at the top of the food chain.

Ghost Shark is not writer-director Griff Furst's first Syfy rodeo. Arachnoquake, Swamp Shark and Lake Placid 3 all bear his name as director. (He's also acted in quite a few Syfy movies.) Ghost Shark, though, is the first that gives him writing credit, for the story of a town haunted by the bloodthirsty phantom of a great white (airing Thursday, Aug. 22 at 9/8c). TV Guide Magazine spoke to Furst about the mechanics of a ghost shark kill, how one comes by the title of "Syfy original movie director," and the specter of Sharknado.

The "Sharknado" storm continues to build: the third time proved to be the charm for the made-for-tv movie about a tornado full o' sharks over the weekend with 2.1 million. In fact, Saturday night's third airing of "Sharknado" was the most-watched original movie encore in Syfy history. The movie aired during an all-day "Sharkathon" festival which also featured "Sharktopus," "Two-Headed Shark Attack" and "Swamp Shark." Syfy is riding high on "Shark-Mentum" in the wake of its Sharknado phenomenon, and on August 22nd they're going back to the well with Ghost Shark. Curious? Check out these three new sneak peeks.
But first, all day today (July 27th), Syfy is airing a #Sharkathon movie festival that will include such classics as Sharktopus, Two-Headed Shark Attack, Dinoshark, and Swamp Shark along with, of course, the aforementioned Sharknado (click here for the full schedule). Below the trio of Ghost Shark clips, you'll find a dozen "Shark Bites" promoting the event.
Griff Furst directs Ghost Shark. Mackenzie Rosman, Richard Moll, Dave Davis, and Sloane Coe star.

Just when you thought it was safe to go back to the theatre... in an unprecedented move by the Syfy Channel, the madness of their surprise juggernaut hit Sharknado is going theatrical. Yes, you read that right. Somewhere out there right now... angels are high-fiving!
Variety reports that the flick is getting a one-night-only cinema replay, with Regal Entertainment Group set to stage midnight showings of the creature feature on about 200 screens next Friday night, August 2nd. Madness! Madness, I say!
Tickets are priced at $12.50 apiece. Will you be there? Gotta say, we're really thinking about going! If only for the lunacy of the occasion.

"That's some bad hat, Harry."
Anyone who half-ironically tuned into the Syfy original movie/meme-generator "Sharknado," we're blaming you. Thanks to the shocking success of grade-z creature feature "Sharknado," we're now perched on the toothy edge of a "ridiculous shark movie" boom, one that could gobble up Hollywood whole. Because, as we've learned from "The Social Network," the only thing cooler than a million shark movies is a billion shark movies.
According to a report in The Hollywood Reporter, Syfy is planning a string of new shark-related movies, and on July 27 will have an all-day Sharkathon that includes a repeat of "Sharknado" (its third airing on the network), Roger Corman's moderately funnier and better produced "Sharktopus," "Swamp Shark," and "2-Headed Shark Attack" (a movie that came on right after the initial "Sharknado" airing).
In August, the channel will premiere "Ghost Shark," from the humanitarians that brought us "Swamp Shark,...

The Sharknado Feeding Frenzy continued on Syfy when the film's encore telecast on July 18 jumped 38% in total viewers, 29% in Adults 25-54, and 24% in Adults 18-49 versus the premiere on July 11. If you missed it once again, you have two more chances to right that wrong!
The movie also delivered 313K Adults 18-34, up 50% from the premiere, and was the most watched Original Movie in that demographic since Zombie Apocalypse in October 2011. (In the battle of zombies vs. sharks begun by Fulci, it's good to see the undead remain on top!)
From 7-9Pm (Et/Pt), Sharknado averaged 1.9 million total viewers, 797K Adults 25-54, and 701K Adults 18-49. Fueling the unprecedented social media buzz, the movie was the #1 most tweeted program on cable Thursday night (excluding sports and special events).

"Sharknado" may be the ultimate Syfy Original Movie. It's about sharks. Sharks caught up in a tornado. Ian Ziering, once of "Beverly Hills 90210," and Tara Reid are in charge of saving the world from the killer flying fish-monsters.
Could anything be better?
Syfy obviously thinks that "more" equals "better." Because of this, the cable network will surround "Sharknado" with seven other shark-themed disaster films. Yes, Syfy has seven more shark-themed disaster films.
Actually, the original movie-loving network has way more than seven ("Jersey Shore Shark Attack" anyone?), but that's the number getting airtime on Thursday, July 8. In all, Syfy will present an eight-movie marathon of shark destruction throughout the day.
The insanity begins at 9am on Thursday with the aptly named "Mega Shark vs. Giant Octopus." Following that, we get "Malibu Shark Attack," "Sharktopus," "Swamp Shark" and "Super Shark." The main event, "Sharknado," takes the prime-time position at 9pm, and...

Signature Entertainment re-release three of their Tesco-exclusive creature features in a special three pack which is now available at all good retailers. Last week we reviewed Dragon Wasps, a Syfy channel produced creature feature released by Chelseas Films and this week we have Arachnoquake, a Syfy channel produced creature feature released by our friends at Signature Entertainment. I think I see a trend forming… Not that I’m complaining, I love the cheesy Syfy channel TV movies – mainly because unlike big-budget Hollywood flicks, these movies know exactly what they are and their limitations and have fun with it! This time round it’s the story of an earthquake in the Deep South that, besides making a mess of the roads, unleashes a swarm of albino spiders of all shapes and sizes who, as they do in these types of movies, converge on New Orleans to reek havoc on the locals.

Syfy's "Bigfoot," starring Danny Bonaduce and Barry Williams airs June 30th. June on Syfy means it's time for escapist popcorn fare, over-the top-summer flicks for families; the big, special-effects-driven movies you have come to love. So far we have seen Arachnoquake, Jersey Shore Shark Attack, Swamp Shark and SwampVolcano. CGI B-Movie masterpieces that really have the creatures jumping out at you. The Partridge Family-Brady Bunch history of the actors just makes it all the more delicious. In the Fall, Syfy will offer darker original films including American Horror House, with Morgan Fairchild and Alessandra Torresani, and Dead Walking, with LeVar Burton and Mariel Hemingway.

Okay, I’ll admit it. I used to be an anti-Original Movie snob. Then one day I was lucky enough to be on a conference call with Jewel Staite (Firefly), who basically said that the Syfy Original Movies are meant to be enjoyed on a couch with a giant bowl of popcorn. I’ve been enjoying them ever since. Two new movies will be coming our way this year that continue in that great tradition. Syfy have just sent us an email announcing the latest in their long-running line of Syfy Original Movies, Arachnoquake, and this one comes from Griff Furst who also directed Swamp Shark, one of the highest-rated Syfy Saturday Original Movies of 2011 (and a film I reviewed here). The film is set to star Tracey Gold (Growing Pains), Bug Hall (The Little Rascals), Ethan Phillips (Star Trek: Voyager) and Edward Furlong (Terminator 2: Judgment Day).
In Arachnoquake, massive earthquakes unleash giant albino spiders. Freed from their ancient subterranean prison, the spiders go on a murderous rampage through New Orleans.

New Orleans survived the worst hurricane of a generation, but can it survive an Arachnoquake? Not just an earthquake... an earthquake that unleashes giant albino spiders from deep within the bowels of the earth. Can Carol Seaver, John Connor, and Alfalfa save the Big Easy from an earth-rattling, eight-legged apocalypse?

What kind of high school would you find Danny Trejo as a bad ass janitor, Charisma Carpenter as a sexy librarian, and M.C. Gainey as its headmaster? My kind of high school, that’s what. Too bad it’s haunted.
Haunted High is a new Syfy original starring major bad ass Danny Trejo, major babe Charisma Carpenter, and another bad ass not to be trifled with, “Lost” heavy M.C. Gainey.
Obviously, they are a little too old to be playing students. Key members of the student body will be played by Marc Donato of “Degrassi: Next Generation” and newcomer Jonathan Baron.
The Hollywood Reporter’s “Heat Vision” blog brings us word of the premise:
The story, by Paul A. Birkett and Anthony C. Ferrante, is set at the fictional Holloman Academy, a New England private school that is visited by a demonic dead headmaster (Gainey).

Klanshark: The Great White Supremacist … Whoops! I mean Swamp Shark is the Syfy original movie about a shark loose in the Louisiana bayou that mostly eats black actors and the white women that love them. If you think my alternate title is dubious, read on and I’ll unveil the film’s hilarious Japanese release title.
Kristy Swanson, D.B. Sweeney, and Robert Davi star in this Syfy original about an illegal animal smuggler who mistakenly frees a voracious deep sea predator in a backwater Cajun swamp. As I noted in my review, this shark spends two thirds of the film curiously only eating African-Americans and white women involved in interracial romances and then tries to make amends for its prejudiced ways by only eating douchebags the world would be better off without.

One of the biggest surprises of Syfy's campy fun flick "Swamp Shark" was seeing the performance of actor Jason Rogel (Splinterheads), cast as Martin the bus boy in this Louisiana potboiler of ridiculous premise and effects. Rogel joined Kristy Swanson (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) and Db Sweeney (The Event, The Cutting Edge) on a mission to save the people of Gator Fest from being shredded to death by a beastly shark. "Swamp Shark" aired this past Saturday, June 25th at 9pm (Pst) on the SyFy channel. Martin worked in the funky waterside restaurant for the Broussard clan led by Kristy Swanson, and had an unrequited love crush on her baby sister Krystal (Sophie Sinise), who he worked with.

It feels like it has been too long since Syfy has uncorked some new man-eating monster movies for us to sink our teeth into. That'll change come June when the network unleashes a pair of toothy monstrosities: Ice Road Terror and Swamp Shark. Syfy has posted a trio of bloody scenes from each monster mash.
The carnage begins on June 11th at 9/8 Central when Ice Road Terror reaches its destination on your television dial. Dylan Neal ("Dawson's Creek", "Blood Ties") and Brea Grant (Halloween II, "Heroes") star in this creature feature about Alaskan ice road truckers and a research analyst tangling with an unearthed prehistoric monster. The director (Terry Ingram) and writer (Keith Shaw) of Syfy's Phantom Racer reteam for this creature feature inspired by the popular reality series "Ice Road Truckers". Curiously, though, one thing you will not actually see in these clips is any actual ice road trucking.

The second season of Haven (based on a Stephen King story) starts up Friday, July 15 at 10 p.m. (Et/Pt). Last season, when FBI agent Audrey Parker (Emily Rose) arrived in the town of Haven, Maine on a routine case, her knack for unraveling mysteries proved an asset when she discovered that the seemingly sleepy town was, in fact, a longtime refuge for people with supernatural afflictions. Now, in Season Two, Audrey must not only stay on top of Haven’s many afflictions, but also solve her most challenging case yet: the secret of her own lost past and its ties to Haven. SyFy has set a June 25 premiere date for Swamp Shark , the latest in its string of nature-run-amok thrillers. Kristy Swanson, Db Sweeney and Robert Davi star in this cheap-o fodder directed by Griff Furst, the man who gave us Lake Placid 3 . In the film, a great white shark mutates and adapts to freshwater when a Us Government bio-terrorism research facility spills its radioactive chemicals into the ocean. As the shark wreaks havoc on Mississippi River towns and threatens the freshwater system of the country, an embattled local fisherman and his hillbilly crew become destined to kill it.

Director Griff Furst understands what makes SyFy original movies work. You take a handful of marginally recognizable actors, toss in a giant blood-thirsty creature, and mix them together in a location that consists mostly of water. The end result generally looks something along the lines of “Swamp Shark”, a film that is currently slated to debut on the aforementioned channel sometime this February. Below you’ll find the official trailer for the flick, as well as some artwork that should, in theory, get you just as jazzed as I am about the project. How can you go wrong with a movie that features Robert Davi battling a giant shark in a swamp? Even my wildest dreams aren’t as dazzling and awe-inspiring as what you’re about to watch. If nothing else, there’s a strong possibility Kristy Swanson will show some skin. Once the film hits DVD, that is.
