AMC Networks is developing a third series set in author Anne Rice’s literary world, hot on the heels of series “Anne Rice’s Interview with the Vampire” and “Anne Rice’s Mayfair Witches,” Deadline reports.
The currently untitled spinoff series will be set in the world of the Talamasca, also known as the Order of the Talamasca, a secret organization featured in Rice’s novels and both AMC series. Mr. Harrigan’s Phone screenwriter John Lee Hancock will serve as writer and showrunner.
Per Deadline, “It is a secret society set up to research, watch over and keep track of the paranormal including witches, spirits, werewolves and vampires. Rice calls them ‘psychic detectives.'”
The announcement comes shortly after the season renewal of “Anne Rice’s Mayfair Witches,” where AMC’s Mark Johnson previously said, “The success of both Mayfair Witches and Interview with the Vampire once again illustrates the strength and...

Jack Huston of “Boardwalk Empire” and “House of Gucci” has been cast as the pivotal and mysterious character Lasher in AMC’s “Mayfair Witches” series, the cabler announced on Friday. The series is based on the Mayfair trilogy by “Interview With the Vampire” author Anne Rice.
Lasher is a shape-shifting demon who has been linked to the family of witches for generations after being summoned in the 1600s. Rice described him as “a slim, pale, elegant figure with dark eyes and dark hair and a hypnotically seductive power over any of [the Mayfairs] reckless enough to entertain him.”
The character first appeared in Rice’s novel “The Witching Hour” in 1990, which was followed by 1993’s “Lasher” and 1994’s “Taltos.” He was voiced by Joe Morton in the 2000 audiobook.

I for one will never tire of them: those assorted candy boxes with always one or two disagreeable sorts to spit out, but overall filled with enjoyable treats. And so it goes in the movies as well; call them horror portmanteaus, omnibuses, or lotsashortstogether, they offer outrageous highs littered with occasional lows that offer a sugar rush once the box is done. Tales from the Crypt (1972) is one of my favorite examples of a horrific sampler.
This Amicus production was given a release by Twentieth Century Fox in its native UK, and by Cinerama Releasing Corporation in the US, and did quite well on both sides of the pond. Cinerama got the jump in March, with the UK afforded spookier seasonal vibes that September. Critics were kind to this latest from the studio that gave us Torture Garden and The House That Dripped Blood, and spotlit Peter Cushing in perhaps his most poignant role.

AMC Studios has opened a writers’ room for a potential series based on Anne Rice’s “Lives of the Mayfair Witches” for AMC+ and AMC, the company announced as part of its portion of TCA’s summer virtual press tour today. The project is being developed as part of AMC’s scripts-to-series model, which includes the commissioning of a writers’ room to develop additional material and produce backup scripts for handpicked projects which, in success, would move straight to a series order. This is one of three writers rooms opened by AMC Studios in this round; the other two potential series given the treatment are hourlong Invitation to a Bonfire and half-hour Demascus.
Lives of the Mayfair Witches would be the second series in AMC’s planned Anne Rice universe, following the recent greenlight of Interview with the Vampire, which is slated for a 2022 premiere.
Esta Spaulding and Michelle Ashford are set as writers and executive producers of the series. Spaulding, who has an overall deal with AMC Studios, would serve as showrunner if Lives of the Mayfair Witches is greenlit.
The series will focus on an intuitive young neurosurgeon who discovers that she is the unlikely heir to a family of witches. As she grapples with her newfound powers, she must contend with a sinister presence that has haunted her family for generations.
AMC Networks last year acquired the rights to Rice’s works, encompassing 18 titles including the Vampire Chronicles and Mayfair Witches series, with producer Mark Johnson, who also has an overall deal with AMC Studios, leading the development the full Anne Rice collection into a streaming and television universe.
“We have an enormous amount of ambition for these iconic works, which have captivated and entertained millions of fans around the world, so it is gratifying to be moving so quickly from the Interview greenlight to exploring a second series with such talented and accomplished writers and creators as Esta and Michelle,” said Dan McDermott, president of original programming for AMC Networks and AMC Studios. “We take our responsibility to deliver compelling television to both existing and new fans of this material incredibly seriously, as we move deliberately to develop these titles into a new franchise and universe for AMC+ and AMC.”
The Anne Rice catalog acquired by AMC includes:
The Vampire Chronicles Series: “Interview with the Vampire,” “The Vampire Lestat,” “The Queen of the Damned,” “The Tale of the Body Thief,” “Memnoch The Devil,” “The Vampire Armand,” “Pandora,” “Vittorio the Vampire,” “Blood and Gold,” “Prince Lestat,” “Prince Lestat and the Realms of Atlantis,” and “Blood Communion: A Tale of Prince Lestat;”
The Lives Of The Mayfair Witches Series : “The Witching Hour,” “Lasher,” “Taltos;”
The Vampire Chronicles/The Lives Of The Mayfair Witches- Crossover Novels: “Merrick,” “Blackwood Farm” and “Blood Canticle.” Together, The Vampire Chronicles and The Lives of the Mayfair series have sold more than 150 million copies worldwide.
