For the love of god please stop cutting to future Sophie
kelvin-954251 February 2022
All the future scenes where Sophie is telling her son the story are so annoying, cringy and straight up ruined the mood. The episode itself was alright, not very funny but had some nice development for the cast. So far Sophie feels...too normal i guess, compare to Ted who is rather unique with his strong belief in finding his soulmate, Sophie feels more like a side character in her own story, watching this made me realize how good of a protagonist Ted was. The other characters were decent and overall fun to watch beside Ellen who haven't clicked yet for me like why is she here, what's her purpose? Imagine having one of Marshall's brother in the main crew of himym, that would be Ellen in this. Cid is way more interesting than her yet he disappeared most of the episode because the cast is too big.

4 episodes in - the cast is struggling and the writing isn't helping.
oddity942 February 2022
So, there is some potential, but not much - not without some major reworking. The dialogue is rough and unfortunately the cast isn't quiiiiite strong enough to overcome that obstable. At this point, Tom Ainsley as Charlie is the most consistently entertaining - the character is quite cartoonish, but Ainsley is charismatic and at LEAST there is a definable character. To work with The rest don't really have discernible personalities. Francia, Chris, and Suraj could definitely shine but their characters are quite .... bland? Few of them bring a specific point of view to any of ther scenes. Unfortunately, Hilary is really struggling as Sophie. She's likeable for sure, and you can't help but root for her - but Hilary undoubtedly has trouble in this format. She can't quite land a punchline and she doesn't posess the natural stage presence to lead the ensemble.

I do not even know why I'm watching this show
saaaraaa23v2 February 2022
Before the show starts, I really hope for something funny and delightful, but it really disappoints me.

The jokes don't make you laugh. I just have a poker face when I watch this show.

Missing humor
bemidanie1 February 2022
Wonderfully done. But writers needs to work on the humor area. Apart from that everything is good and loved it. And characters were really doing great with their given play.

It's just not funny
not_a_daisy1 February 2022
The biggest complaint I have is about humor. Four episodes in and I didn't like a single joke. They try to make funny situations but it doesn't really work. Characters are not that bad, bit I have this feeling that they gave them really vague personality and just adjust to where plot goes, but there's no consistency. Sophie is likable, but not enough to carry the show. I feel like there's potential and I really want to have such show, but I wish it did better job. Right now it's below average for me.

The show is finding its footing
jijigrignard1 February 2022
Once again this episode seems to top the others in term of quality and chemistry between the cast member. It was a very good episode to explore the different relationships between the character and so far it feels like the show have been improving for each episode, which is great news.

This episode was also the last one to appear in the trailer and to have been shown to critics, so the next episodes are total mysteries.

Can't wait to see where everything goes, the show has been going good so far and keeps getting better, I'm all for it.

hillary is just too fake..
pikablackpika2 February 2022
Hillary tries sooo hard to act.. like you know by every single act of her that she is just playing! Its not real.

Her facial expressions are so fake that reminds me of tiktokers and viners.

And the jokes.. not a single laugh after four episodes there is no Barney level , not even a Robin level character in this show.

I'll say it!
ronniewhitedx3 February 2022
I actually really like this show so far. The humor was kind of cringe during ep 1&2 but 3&4 are on par with HIMYM 1st season. I think it's got so much potential that's unfortunately overshadowed by the reality that this is the sequel to one of if not the best sitcoms ever produced.

I like this show a lot but not the best episode...
ameliaortega-880301 February 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This episode just felt all over the place. The character development didn't make any sense. I was getting the impression that Sophie was mature in the first three episodes even though she is still trying to figure her life out. So the dirrty thirty party seemed out of character. And Valentina and Charles' relationship doesn't make any sense. It seemed like she really wanted to be with him at the end of episode one but she keeps going back and forth too much. But the premise was interesting (exploring different maturity levels at 30 and how that plays into dating) and the TRL fangirling was fun. But hopefully it feels more grounded in the next episode.

It's getting there...
musicgirrl162 February 2022
I really, really love HIMYM. It was a new kind of sitcom. It had the feel of Friends and Seinfeld, but it also had the forethought of the future. And that is what drew people to it. That and the relationships that were developed throughout the show. This show does it's best to capture that phenomenon.... And it's getting there. I just hope everyone gives it the chance to grow.

4th Episode in and ...
ichhabenwill3 February 2022
... it's still all so flat and still feels forced and artificial. It's all over the place.

Having six! Main characters in a 20-something minutes show, with 10 episodes, how could there really be good character development? So the show mainly has to depend on the jokes, situations and gimmicks I'd guess ... which aren't taking off so far.

Perfect one for the start
iamkhannak2 February 2022
Perfect one for the start. Seems nice now. Episodes in the beginning weren't as good as it's supposed to be. But now, characters have made their improvements & the show is getting better and better.

OBVS Written by Older People
rbernardo20102 February 2022
This show has messed up a lot so far, but this episode was extra bad. What did it for me, was when these characters who are supposed to be turning 30 in the year 2022 are referencing Christina Aguilera's song "Dirrty" as their "dirty 30 party theme."

The characters would have been 10 when the song came out in 2002. So while they would've heard it, they absolutely would not have understood it, and their discovery of sexual songs to reference coming-of-age would not have happened for another 3 to 4 years.

Not to mention how the sheer term "dirty 30" is 95% exclusively heard by elder millennials (such as the actors in the show who are almost going on 40).

Honestly, the writers of the show are utterly terrible. They should just all give up and let some Gen Z kids write it. Hell, at least they would make it realistic and contemporary.

Lacking play call
ericlindros-297573 February 2022
Why I'm watching HIMYF?

Well, good question.

Perhaps it's the only way, to see Hilary Duff doing "her thing" nowadays. Even tho I have to conclude, that she is not on par with her performance in "Younger". Here, she is, kind of like Mahomes not finding Hill, to make the big points, because of a lacking play call.

Episode 4
bobcobb30114 February 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Still trying to figure out which character is supposed to be the "funny" character on this show.

Right now it is hard to really root for any of these people. The casting is turning out to be wrong for this series.

Okay this was bad
agastyasingh-783992 February 2022
Warning: Spoilers
The last episode was a decent episode. It wasn't as good as a normal How I Met Your Mother episode, but it seemed like a run of the mill episode for any sitcom. This episode however - is BAD.

The Plot: Sophie is 30. She goes on a date with drew, he's sophisticated and she likes it. She wants him bad. So she invites him to his party and completely turns it on its head.

Let's look at the plotlines from smallest to biggest:

Sid: He has a mangagement ring. They try to give him a catchphrase with it called "Trademark". Yup. After Legen-wait for it- Dary, Awesome, Suit Up, Lawyered, Son of a B, Haaaaave you met Ted, and countless others from How I Met Your Mother we have come to this. Trademark. Awful. It isn't funny and its hard to look at because they are trying so hard to emulate the anachronisms of HIMYM without asking the original writers for any help. Sid is supposed to be the funny guy in the group and its just not working.

Ellen and Jesse: So we get some depth to Ellen and Jesse's relationship which is nice. We learn about how they were forced to grow up separately, because of their mom being an a-hole. Jesse wants them to have fun together at Sophie's party because its their first party together in 20-22 years. So he tries to set her up with a girl and he uses "Hi have you met Ellen". I like that, like his iteration of it was definitely not as charismatic or entertaining as Barney but its alright. Then the things don't work out between the girl or whatever, Ellen leaves, Jesse rushes after her and she tells him that he does not know her at all, it's difficult for them to reconnect, how he disappeared. Its all sad, so Jesse teachers her how to use the Subway which is a cute moment. One problem I have with this is that compared to the first two episodes of the show, Ellen is really miserable and somber in episodes 3 and 4. And I don't like that because she was supposed to be my favorite. Jesse still seems to be a nothing character and remains my least favorite.

Valentina and Charlie: Charlie is my favorite character in the show. He's charismatic, funny, and eccentric. I liked Valentina in the last episode but again, in this episode, she's not it. I think whenever she's paired up with Charlie she gets worse. She does not have good chemistry with this man. They want us to believe so badly that she had this promiscuous past but they never show it, they just expect us to believe it and its garbage. Her whole thing this episode was "I like it when you flirt with girls". Thats nonsense. So, that plotline was abhorrent.

Sophie and Drew: Now, the main plotline. Sophie and Drew go on a date, and she finds him charming and mature and sophisticated. She likes him. Okay. She likes him so much that she invites him to her 30th birthday party. She planned on everyone looking like Christina Aguilera from the Dirty video, but she doesn't believe that Drew would vibe with it so she flips the party on its head and tries to make it sophisticated, and its not good. Even though this is the major plotline of the episode its unsurprisingly uneventful. I think Drew is supposed to be to Sophie, what Victoria was to Ted but it does not work because both of these new characters are completely charmless.

Its really boring, there are very few laughs, and zero good laughs. The show is backpaddling into an abyss. The show isn't setting a grand romantic story they are still trying to understand the dynamics of this group. It's bad and I think it's hopeless now.

Books are just out of fashion for this bunch of people
dianah7911 July 2022
I know we are living in a fast, digital era, but to hear all these characters in their 30's saying that books are making them be afraid of getting old and look to a book shelf like it's an anthic piece of museum is just stupid and sad. Sophie seems just like a random stupid bimbo saying that she just bought those books to impress Drew. And their addiction to tiktok and selfie already became outdated.
