After tempting and then losing a couple of other Expendables, high-tech prison drama The Tomb has finally landed the top dog himself, Sylvester Stallone. The Tomb has been coming together at Summit Entertainment for some time. Early reports placed Antoine Fuqua in the director's chair, and reunited him with his Tears Of The Sun star Bruce Willis. Then there was talk of it as one of several potential post-Governator comeback roles for Arnold Schwarzenegger, before he opted for Last Stand instead. But clearly (possibly) Arnold and Bruce liked the project enough to egg Sly onto it during their shared Expendables 2 downtime. You know how it is. You're bored in your trailer, you allow yourself to get talked into another action extravaganza...The film involves a designer of supposedly impregnable prisons having to escape from one of his own maximum security stockades when he's framed for a crime he didn't commit...

After its sudden and expected delay in shooting, it’s now being reported that Wolverine 2 is being re-written by one of Fox’s regular scribes…
Last month, it emerged that The Wolverine, which at one point looked as though it was ready to begin shooting, had been abruptly delayed. The reason, we were told, was because Fox couldn’t find the right Japanese locations for the movie’s sideburn-filled action.
According to Us industry mag Variety, however, it seems that Fox is using the hiatus to rewrite the entire script. Originally written by Christopher McQuarrie, the chap behind The Usual Suspects and the forthcoming Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, the Wolverine script has been handed over to Mark Bomback for a reworking. Could it be that Fox were unhappy with the shooting script, and ceased production for a rewrite?

The Wolverine is getting a rewrite thanks to Mark Bomback. Variety reports tha Bomback (Jack the Giant Killer, Total Recall) has been hired to rewrite Christopher McQuarrie's script for 20th Century Fox's superhero sequel starring Hugh Jackman being directed by James Mangold.
The story follows Wolvie who is "suffering from amnesia and searching for answers about his past in the Japanese criminal underworld where he finds both love and tragedy." Japanese and Japanese-American actors make up the cast, except for a newly expanded character named Viper, who's the Caucasian secretary for Japan's Minister of Justice.
The project is being produced by Jackman along with John Palermo and Lauren Shuler Donner. Filming is slated to take place in Tokyo and Vancouver next year after Jackman wraps Tom Hooper's Les Miserables for Universal. Bomback wrote Live Free or Die Hard and Unstoppable for Fox. He also scripted the Deception, which also stars Jackman,...

Mr. Popper's Penguins arrives in theaters this weekend, and producer John Davis has been doing a lot of press lately. Davis recently spoke to Collider and revealed some details about his upcoming projects, including the action-thriller Protection, David Ayer’s Commando remake, and The Last Mission.
Here is what he had to say about Protection, which at one point had Dwayne Johnson attached to star:
Protection I have been developing for 5 or 6 years. It is this really great writer, who did 21 (Allan Loeb). He writes a lot of great scripts. It is a really great script. It is just going to be the right director, right actor, and the right time. But it is a fabulous script.
Davis talks about how different the new Commando is from the original, and confirms it will be a hard R. Here is what he had to say:
We have a really great script.

Paramount has optioned Ray Bradbury's "The Martian Chronicles," TheWrap has confirmed. John Davis is producing. "The Martian Chronicles" is a short-story collection published in 1950. It's about humans fleeing earth, which has been all but destroyed, for Mars. Humans attempt to colonize the Red Planet. Universal had owned rights to the book, but the company's option, which it acquired in 1997, have expired. Davis has two projects -- "Chronicle" and "Protection" -- in preproduction at Twentieth Century Fox and a third project, "Mr. Popper's Penguins" in postproduction at the studio. With the amount of trade news we write, there are certain screenwriters that we tend to see frequently -- on some days, it feels like every Hollywood studio project is being divided up among 15 men (there are sadly no women on this list; the few notable female screenwriters tend to be better known as directors, and I've excluded those known more for their directing work, as they are more recognizable).
Truth is, I had no idea what most of these guys looked like until I compiled this list. Most people who follow the industry probably know what John August looks like (the guy behind a lot of Tim Burton's films) and maybe William Monahan, but few would recognize many of those behind the movies that pollute our multiplexes look like.
So, for the curious among you, here are 13 currently prolific screenwriters whose faces you've probably never seen, but whose...

Mall cop Paul Blart, better known as Kevin James, is trading in his security uniform for boxing trunks. The actor is all set to go another round with Sony — after "Paul Blart: Mall Cop," "Grown-Ups" and 2011's "The Zookeeper" — for a mixed martial arts movie.
James will star in the as-yet-untitled feature as a physics teacher who decides to moonlight as a mixed martial arts fighter when the school he works for faces budget cuts, Deadline reports. Whatever his initial intentions are, the main character proves talented enough to land a gig as a fighter in the Ufc.
Sony is reportedly fast-tracking the film to shoot next year, presumably for a 2012 release. James will also produce with Todd Garner ("Blart" and "Knight and Day...

The 'special forces soldier versus Mexican gangs' action film Protection has gone through a lot of changes. Originally to be directed by Simon West, the film got a new director in District 13: Ultimatum helmer Patrick Alessandrin. Paul Walker was originally the lead, then he was replaced by Clive Owen. Now the film has a new lead and needs a new director. Dwayne Johnson is now attached to star in Protection, and Allessandrin has left the project, with no one yet replacing him. Brandon Noonan's script is still in play; it follows " a disgraced former Special Forces soldier who takes on a Mexican cartel in an attempt to rescue and protect a judge's 21 year-old daughter, who has been targeted by the cartel for agreeing to testify against one of its members after she witnesses her father's murder." Given all the movement on this one, it's hard to believe we'll...

Got a lot of big names sitting on the casting couch today. Chris Pine and Seth Rogen are lining up to pair together in a film but so are Leslie Mann and Kate Bosworth. Dwayne Johnson is putting his action hat on replacing Clive Owen for one of his latest projects.
Seth Rogen and Chris Pine Circling This Means War
According to The Wrap, it looks like Seth Rogen and Chris Pine are both in the running to star with Reese Witherspoon in This Means War. In the film is about two best friends, inseparable since childhood, who fall in love with the same woman (Witherspoon).
The two men’s bond disintegrates and their ensuing battle escalates to mammoth proportions with New York City demolished in their wake. The site goes on to say that Rogen might take over a role in the film that was originally offered to James Franco.

Maybe the one-two bombings of "Planet 51" and "The Tooth Fairy" shook him awake. Dwayne Johnson is attached to star in the action-thriller "Protection," replacing Clive Owen in the lead role, an individual familiar with the project told TheWrap. The script by Brandon Noonan follows a disgraced former Special Forces soldier who takes on a Mexican cartel in an attempt to rescue and protect a judge's 21 year-old daughter, who has been targeted by the cartel for agreeing to testify against one of its members after she witnesses her father's murder. The action will reportedly play out on both sides of the border."Protection" comes across as a potent mix of "Man on Fire" and "Taken" minus the kidnapping angle, which sounds like a promising combination. They honestly don't make 'em like they used to. I know that's a cliche, but it's an especially true cliche when it comes to action movies.

Dwayne Johnson is replacing Clive Owen in action-thriller Protection , according to The Wrap . Director Patrick Alessandrin has reportedly also left the project. The film is about a twenty-one-year-old daughter of a Mexican judge who's targeted by mob types (after she sees them kill her father and other family members), and must stay on the run through dodgy places on both sides of the border, while an agent (Johnson) tries to protect her and the bad guy is hot on her trail. Brandon Noonan wrote the script. No word yet on who is taking over the director's chair. Johnson can be seen in upcoming The Other Guys and Faster .

Dwayne Johnson is defintiely returning to action, and even though that's not the greatest news on the planet, it's still better than watch him embarrass himself in terribly stupid family comedies. According to The Wrap, Johnson will star in "Protection," a thriller that once had Paul Walker and Clive Owen attached.
Brandon Noonan penned the script, which follows a former solider trying to protect a judge's daughter, the target of a ruthless Mexican drug cartel. Patrick Alessandrin was supposed to helm this one, but word is he dropped the project as well. The reasons for all these departures are unknown at this point.

First Paul Walker was supposed to offer us protection, then Clive Owen replaced him, and now The Rock has taken over. Three’s the charm, perhaps? Maybe. Besides a switch in leading man, the actioner “Protection” has also switched director once again. The original director was Simon West, but he was eventually replaced by Patrick Alessandrin, and now The Wrap says Alessandrin has also left the project, though they don’t offer any replacement names. According to IMDb.com, Gary Fleder (“The Express”) is attached to direct. Apparently the plot has either changed a bit as well, or it’s been clarified: The script by Brandon Noonan follows a disgraced former Special Forces soldier who takes on a Mexican cartel in an attempt to rescue and protect a judge’s 21 year-old daughter, who has been targeted by the cartel for agreeing to testify against one of its members after she witnesses her father’s murder.

Weaving as Captain America Villain: Hugo Weaving is in talks to join the cast of Paramount's The First Avenger: Captain America as the film's villain, the Red Skull, Captain America's archenemy since 1941, when he engaged in espionage and sabotage as Hitler's right-hand man. In his final battle with the superhero, he was buried under the rubble of a bombed building but - as would occur later with Captain America - fell into a state of suspended animation. Both were revived in modern times. Apparently this isn't a done deal as of yet as Marvel "plays hardball in the negotiating process and also demands multi-movie commitments, though the latter usually applies to actors playing its heroes." Remember back to how easily Terrence Howard was replaced by Don Cheadle in Iron Man 2.

Last spring, there was word from Cannes that Paul Walker was going to star in a new action thriller written by Brandon Noonan called Protection. Simon West was slated to direct, and the film was scheduled to begin production last August. Obviously, that never happened, and both men are no longer with the project. Who could replace the man who directed Con Air and the star of The Fast in the Furious? The answer might surprise you.
According to Production Weekly's Twitter feed, Clive Owen will replace Walker in the feature, and Patrick Alessandrin will direct. That certainly makes for a different movie. You all know Owen, of course, and Alessandrin is the man who just helmed the parkour follow-up Banlieue 13: Ultimatum. Unless things have changed over the last year of development, the film follows a former Special Forces soldier who faces off against Mexican gangs in order...
