2009's Worst Sex Scenes

29 December 2009 9:38 AM, PST | newser.com | See recent newser news »

Sometimes on-screen sex scenes are just sex…not sexy. The Frisky points to a list on YourTango detailing the 10 worst sex scenes of 2009: The Watchmen: Two superheroes have sex on a spaceship…with Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah” playing in the background. Enough said. The Ugly Truth: Katherine Heigl’s orgasm-in-a-restaurant scene just can’t live up to the original from When Harry Met Sally . Bruno: Sacha Baron Cohen’s entire film is chock-full of awkward, cringe-inducing sex scenes—how can you choose just one? Grey’s Anatomy: Katherine Heigl scores a second spot on the list by having sex with a ghost—even if it »

Notice I didn't say best movies -- that territory has been well covered by far more passionate list makers than I am. (By the way, do you agree with me that a devotion to ranking is primarily a male urge?  Tell me three good reasons why I'm right or wrong. At any rate, I don't have the gene for it.) As the first decade of the 21st century comes to a close, though, here's fodder for your New Year's Eve party: A list, in no particular order, of 10 movie developments from the past 10 years that have impressed, depressed, excited, upset, »

Bazmann’s Christmas Address

25 December 2009 7:00 AM, PST | HeyUGuys.co.uk | See recent HeyUGuys news »

It’s been a great year for the British film industry. It kicked off with the British invasion of the Oscars, with notable wins for Kate Winslet, and Danny Boyle’s Slumdog Millionaire. The huge amount of British Actors plying their trade successfully in Hollywood continued to grow, with Scot Gerard Butler particularly in demand with parts in Gamer, The Ugly Truth and Law Abiding Citizen.

British filmmakers have been responsible for some of the more interesting films this year. Duncan Jone’s Moon was a brilliant yet under appreciated sci-fi drama. Fish Tank and Harry Brown lead the way for low budget drama. Terry Gilliam’s The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus finally found a distributor. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince became the highest grossing British movie of all time.

British film festivals Raindance and the BFI London Film Festival saw record attendances, and showcased some great films from home, »

2009 in Review: Worst Movies of the Year

23 December 2009 11:25 AM, PST | Huffington Post | See recent Huffington Post news »

Generally speaking, I rarely do worst-of lists, simply because I try to make a point to avoid movies that I probably won't enjoy. However, 2009 contained a number of surprise stinkers, as well as any number of bad films that I saw through work or in order to cover them for this site and my other outlets. So this year I saw enough genuinely unfortunate misses to make a plausible list. There are certainly allegedly terrible films that I haven't seen (The Ugly Truth, Alvin and the Chipmunks 2) and would-be losers that I probably won't see (All About Steve), so I can't promise that your least-favorite flick made the list. I chart the year's-worst not to gloat but to mourn. Here are ten misses in alphabetical order, plus the year's worst movie-going experience. Bride Wars This is the »

The Notable Films of 2010: Part Five

23 December 2009 10:10 AM, PST | Dark Horizons | See recent Dark Horizons news »

Hippie Hippie Shake

Opens: 2010

Cast: Cillian Murphy, Sienna Miller, Max Minghella, Emma Booth, Lee Ingleby

Director: Beeban Kidron

Summary: Follows the love story of Oz editor Richard Neville and Louise Ferrier. Neville and his cohorts launch the London edition of Oz amidst the 1960s counterculture and are subsequently put on trial for distributing a sexually explicit issue.

Analysis: One of the most troubled productions in Working Title's history, 'Hippie' began development back in 1998 but failed to get beyond script stage both in 1999 and in 2002 when "Elizabeth" helmer Shekhar Kapur was attached to direct. Filming finally got underway late 2007 with director Beeban Kidron in charge and shooting seemed to proceed without issue aside from feminist author Germaine Greer being vehemently unhappy about being depicted on film.

Actually the film scored quite a bit of free press for a skinny dipping scene where full-frontal shots of actress Sienna Miller shooting the sequence »

Boos! & Whoop-doos!: 12 Months of Toilet Plunkers and Dumpster Diamonds!

23 December 2009 9:55 AM, PST | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

The End of 2009? Whoop-doo! This year has been one hellatious shit storm from the get-go. Pregnant ladies and babies, The Great Depression Part II, pig flu, more than a handful of horrible shootings, a balloon boy, Tiger's indiscretions, and our first black president. Not to mention more dead celebrities than I can shake a stick at. Every time I turned around, some other atrocious calamity was happening right before my eyes. Making 2009 one of the most interesting years of this entire decade. According to Michael Ruppert in his film Collapse its only going to get worse before it gets better. Yes, the Teens are going to see more than half of your friends and family dead. Take account of the folks around you. By the time 2020 rears its ugly head, most of these people will be gone. Turned to dust and painful memories. My advice to you this coming New Year? »

20 December 2009 7:37 AM, PST | Reelzchannel.com | See recent ReelzChannel news »

Gerard Butler captured Hollywood's attention by starring in the abdominal-laden action movie 300, but this year he stepped into romantic comedy territory with The Ugly Truth. Butler's at it again in The Bounty Hunter, Andy Tennant's latest romantic comedy after directing Fool's Gold and Hitch. Butler teams with Jennifer Aniston in a story about a bounty hunter whose next assignment is his ex-wife. Check out the first trailer below:

Trailer and Poster for The Bounty Hunter Starring Jennifer Aniston and Gerard Butler

18 December 2009 12:20 PM, PST | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

The first trailer and poster for The Bounty Hunter have come online and both have led me to two conclusions: 1) Someone wanted to top the awfulness of The Ugly Truth and B) Gerard Butler should’ve killed his agent a long time ago.  The “high-concept” comedy is about a bounty hunter (Butler) who’s tasked with bringing his ex-wife into custody.  I don’t even need to describe what happens from there because you already know what happens and that’s a bad sign.

You can check out the trailer after the jump along with the poster.  I’ve also included a spruced up version to make the film look more appealing and perhaps reach a wider demographic.

'The Bounty Hunter' Handcuffs a Trailer

18 December 2009 8:15 AM, PST | Cinematical | See recent Cinematical news »

The Bounty Hunter, a movie that sparked a million "Gerard Butler and Jennifer Aniston Sitting in a Tree!" tabloid covers now has a trailer. It debuted on Yahoo! Movies and wants desperately to be noticed among Iron Man 2, Alice in Wonderland and Clash of the Titans. So let's notice it!

I have to say this for The Bounty Hunter -- it's not The Ugly Truth. Hunter has guns! Guns that are being fired at people! Such glimpses of semi-automatic bliss are a promise of action beyond "Oh my God, I can't believe I ever married You" histrionics. The fact that people are waving guns and crashing cars hints that once upon a time, this may have been a script where the heroine had actually committed a crime (a "cool" crime like stealing cars or robbing banks), skipped bail, and crossed paths with a bounty hunter. Love ensued between two sleazy characters. »

Ryan Reynolds. Hugh Jackman. Mel Gibson. These are the names of men that can exist in both the realm of action and the realm of rom-com. Gerard Butler is sadly not a name that belongs on this list. After the atrocities that were P.S. I Love You and The Ugly Truth, Butler has ripped up and re-taped his man card so many times that he should just put it in a safety deposit box until he’s ready to use it for good.

Sr Pick [Video]: 2009 Movie Trailer Mash-Up

16 December 2009 9:03 AM, PST | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

Last week in one of our Screen Rant picks, we showcased a 4-minute long video highlighting a total of 50 movie trailers from the last couple of years. It wasn’t advertising any movies in particular but acted more like of a trailer for a singular movie all on its own – one that could give both Michael Bay and Roland Emmerich a run for their money!

Today we have another similar video, only this time it’s a mash-up of trailers for the movies of 2009. It’s a lot shorter – so for those of you slacking off work it won’t take long!   – but just as well put together. It highlights all kinds of movies (and their trailers), from Sherlock Holmes to The Ugly Truth, from Transformers 2 to The Men Who Stare At Goats – radically different movies all mashed together into one coherent piece.

So here’s the mash-up, courtesy of Hollywood. »

First Poster For Gerard Butler And Jennifer Aniston's 'The Bounty Hunter'

16 December 2009 6:54 AM, PST | AMC - Script to Screen | See recent AMC - Script to Screen news »

To say Gerard Butler has had a busy year would be a bit of an understatement.  In 2009 alone the actor (whose major break out role was the lead in "300") had no less than 3 major film releases ("Law Abiding Citizen", "Gamer" and "The Ugly Truth") and has 7 other projects already lined up.

His next appearance in your local AMC theater will be along side Jennifer Aniston in the new comedy "The Bounty Hunter ".

In the film, Butler plays a Bounty Hunter (betcha didn't see that coming) who takes on the job of hunting down his ex-wife (Aniston) who has skipped bail.

The first poster for the film has arrived online:

This will be Butler's second romantic comedy, and Aniston's... well... 500th.

Marc Forster & Gerard Butler Taking on Machine Gun Preacher?

16 December 2009 12:20 AM, PST | firstshowing.net | See recent FirstShowing.net news »

Once Gerard Butler fought for Sparta in 300 his career took off from what was previously spotted with brief appearances in films, to starring roles in blockbusters. His recent bouts in romantic comedies like The Ugly Truth show that Butler isn't ready to be pigeonholed into one genre just yet, and it looks like he might be  diversifying even more as the gossip blog Oh No They Didn't snagged a story from a local Pennsylvania website about Butler potentially starring in a film called Machine Gun Preacher. Said to be directed by Marc Forster the story chronicles the life of real life minister, biker and soldier Sam Childers. Read on! After time spent riding his Harley-Davidson, doing drugs, and enjoying women, somehow Childers found comfort in God, and now he spends his time helping oppressed and threatened children in African countries like Sudan. Female Critics Weigh In on 2009's Best

14 December 2009 4:02 PM, PST | Cinematical | See recent Cinematical news »

The Alliance of Women Film Journalists has weighed in on their picks for the best of 2009. And if the Oscars plays out anything like this list, early next year should be a great time for women in Hollywood. Kathryn Bigelow and The Hurt Locker picked up 6 nods from the association, including the top spots of Best Film and Best Director. Anne Thompson has since weighed in on that pick, sure that the female director will win the Best Director Oscar this year, becoming the first woman to ever receive that honor. But Bigelow wasn't the only winning woman the Awfj picked out of the crowd.

Screenplay nods went to (500) Days of Summer and Up in the Air -- two of my favorite scripts of the year, An Education won Carey Mulligan some acting love, Inglorious Basterds won a handful of awards including Best Editing for Sally Menke, and Meryl Streep »

Fashion fix: Emporio Armani black dress from The Ugly Truth

14 December 2009 3:02 AM, PST | Boxwish.com | See recent BoxWish news »

There are dresses, there are nice dresses and then there are little black dresses. When dressing to impress, nothing beats the Lbd. It’s the ultimate fashion weapon, capable of fusing sophistication with sexiness, mystery with mischief and more besides. Audrey Hepburn wore hers with pearls and opera gloves in Breakfast at Tiffany’s, Anita Ekberg frolicked in a fountain in hers in La Dolce Vita and Grace Kelly tempted the wheelchair-bound James Stewart in hers in Rear Window (one of the late princess’s many adored wardrobe items to go on exhibition next year, see Related Content). And now we have a new contender to add to this list of legendary LBDs – the Emporio Armani one as worn by Katherine Heigl’s Abby Ritchter in rom-com, The Ugly Truth. »

It’s The 80’s Again: Romancing The Stone & Overboard Remakes

11 December 2009 12:46 PM, PST | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

Almost exactly a year ago, we brought you news that 20th Century Fox was remaking the Michael Douglas adventure film, Romancing The Stone ,with Eagle Eye’s Daniel McDermott penning the script. Now the film has a director in the form of  The Ugly Truth’s Robert Luketic (insert personal opinion here).

To make matters worse, it also seems like Hollywood is about to remake the 1987 Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn romantic team-up, Overboard!

It looks like the Romancing The Stone remake will hit the big-screen first, as the producer of the film, Emma Watts, was recently named  President of Production at 20th Century Fox. With Luketic involved, one would imagine that the comedy quota of the remake will be ramped up and the adventure angle will be … er… god knows, really!

In the original Rts, Douglas played a fortune-hunter who becomes involved with Katheleen Turner’s romance novelist in »

Katherine Heigel To Star In Two 80's Remake

9 December 2009 6:40 AM, PST | LatinoReview | See recent LatinoReview news »

With every one of these remake posts, a little part of me dies violently. Well, it looks like Robert Luketic ("The Ugly Truth," "Monster-in-Law") may direct the in-development "Romancing the Stone" remake. Is it me, or does that seem like a step down?  Granted, Robert Zemeckis wasn't big yet at the time he made his version, but I just can't see Luketic following the same path. Maybe in ten years he'll be remaking Zemeckis' own "Polar Express" using motion capture again. I kid, but also, how true does that seem? Also, Sony wants Katherine Heigl to star in a remake of "Overboard," which starred Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russel back in 1987. Shoot that is a long time ago, it needs to be updated! What is the connection here? Word on the street is that Robert Luketic, who directed Heigl in "The Ugly Truth," may want her to star in the "Stone" remake, »
