Cradle of Filth guitarist Marek “Ashok” Šmerda is getting married to the band’s keyboardist/vocalist Zoë M. Federoff.
Federoff joined Cradle of Filth in 2022 following the exit of Annabelle Iratni, while Ashok has been with the symphonic black metal act since 2014. Cradle of Filth are known for creating extreme metal, but the band does have gothic/romantic leanings with “love songs” such as “A Gothic Romance (Red Roses for The Devil’s Whore)” and “Dusk and Her Embrace.”
Federoff took to Instagram to share news of her engagement to the guitarist:
“Happy New Year from a Šmerda and a future Šmerda-2024 will be the last year the name ‘Zoë Federoff’ exists. Forever isn’t long enough. #HappyNewYear #AreWeThereYet”.
There have apparently been some misgivings about the engagement among the band’s fanbase. In separate follow-up post, Federoff addressed those who have been “speculating and spreading rumors” about the couple and...

The world of Doctor Who has changed greatly in the space of just 10 years. The cast and crew have almost completely been replaced since 2005, including a number of new actors to play the errant Time Lord and his companions.
But what has happened to the class of '05? Where are Rose and Mickey now? What is the writer of 'Dalek' up to? And where can you see more work from the director of 'Rose'?
Here it is then, your guide to the main players of Doctor Who series one.
The Cast
After his three-month on-screen stint as the Doctor, Christopher Eccleston's career continued in much the same vein, taking in theatre, interesting television roles and the odd blockbuster.
Post-2005, the Northern actor went Stateside to take on the role of invisible man Claude in the Us series Heroes. From there, he popped up in a very amusing Doctor Who-esque cameo as Dr.

Here's the first trailer for Utopia's highly promising second series, coming to Channel 4 in July...
Trailer
A brand new series of the darkly comic conspiracy thriller Utopia is coming to Channel Four this July, written by Dennis Kelly (Pulling, Matilda: The Musical) and lead-directed by visionary Marc Munden (The Devil's Whore, The Crimson Petal And The White).
Utopia series two reunites what's left of the gang to tackle the big, unanswerable questions of the first, with just as much style, just as many surprises and grimly comic moments, and - judging by episodes one and two - even more bloodshed. For fans of the first run, it's simply not to be missed.
Here's the first trailer for Utopia series two, or 'Utopia Squared' as the new logo would have it. Not a bad description, that.

Peter Flannery's ambitious follow-up to The Devil's Whore gets off to an uneven but promising start...
This review contains spoilers.
“We’ve not forgotten the Devil’s Whore” said villainous Judge Jeffreys in a much-needed exposition scene in the New Worlds opener. With any luck, neither will have the viewers because tonight’s hour cut little slack for anyone dozing at the back.
More historical water had passed under the bridge between the 2008 Civil War drama and its follow-up than could comfortably fit onto a single context-setting slide, hence New Worlds providing three of them (a ‘previously on’ montage of the original’s knobbing and beheadings, while useful, wouldn’t really have been the done thing). Two decades of Restoration wig-wearing, colonisation and prole-subjugation had gone on since Angelica Fanshawe was left holding Edward Sexby’s baby at the end of The Devil’s Whore,...

The actor's latest two films have earned her a Bafta nomination as a rising star. But she's determined not to let it go to her head
Andrea Riseborough is perched on her bags in the hallway of her hotel (no room key yet), rattling down the line about the honour of being nominated – for a Bafta rising star award – and how she fell in love with an American (for her sins) and moved to Idaho in the middle of nowhere, to a haven in the woods, which is beautiful. Kind of like a log cabin, where she likes to sit and see the elks and play the banjo.
Unashamedly, endearingly eccentric, she talks through questions, spinning off on tangents, excited to be home; she was raised in north Tyneside before decamping to Rada in London in 2005.
Riseborough's usual persona in interviews seems to be that of a luvvie who lives...

Outstanding in the Madonna-directed W.E., the Rada graduate may just be the best and brightest actor of her generation
Andrea Riseborough does not so much walk into a room as float through it; a fragrant, other-worldly presence who seems to appear out of nowhere like a shimmering will-o'-the-wisp. Her physical presence is slight – translucent skin and tiny, fine-boned fingers – and she gives the impression of operating on a different plane from the rest of us, as though earthly concerns are something of a mystery to her.
We are seated upstairs in the studio where the 30-year-old Riseborough has just finished the Observer photoshoot. On the table is a tray of baked apples. She peers at them detachedly, as though they are a strange piece of sculpture she cannot quite understand. Would she like one? "Oh no, I can't eat them," Riseborough says, smoothing down her floral tea dress. Why not?...

From a young Margaret Thatcher to Wallis Simpson, Andrea Riseborough has managed to hide inside her roles. Is she ready for the fame Madonna will thrust upon her?
Andrea Riseborough in person is utterly unlike herself on screen. Even from film to film, Riseborough barely registers as the same person. In last year's remake of Brighton Rock she was timid and gawky, hidden behind National Health spectacles and long, mousy hair. In Made in Dagenham she was a mouthy, beehived cockney, while as the young Margaret Thatcher in TV drama The Long Walk to Finchley, she was faux-plummy and primly professional – and far sexier than most left-leaning viewers were comfortable with. Some actors have their own brand identity that is always flashing in the corner of the screen like a TV channel logo, whatever role they play; others can disappear to the extent we don't realise we've been watching them...

From an unflinching portrayal of the life of a Victorian prostitute in The Crimson Petal to a comically dreadful wife in the film adaptation of One Day, Romola Garai is set for stardom. But while she is uninhibited in her work, don't try asking about her private life...
Ker-flunk, ker-flunk. Romola Garai thumps across the wooden floor of the photography studio with the grace of a flat-footed Cyberman. She seems unable to control her shoes – a pair of Christian Louboutin platform heels. She looks so elegantly beautiful from the ankle up that her clod-hopping progress is particularly amusing. In the end the photographer comments.
"Yeah," says Garai and stares dispassionately at her feet. "I can't really do shoes."
Garai, it transpires, has very firm ideas about what she does and doesn't do; the way life should be lived, what's important and what she can really do without, thank you very much.

From Margaret Thatcher to a Dagenham factory worker, Andrea Riseborough has earned a name for herself portraying headstrong women on stage and screen. But her next role will be the most challenging yet – Mrs Simpson, directed by Madonna
As a child, Andrea Riseborough spent a lot of time watching people. "I used to stare at them in restaurants, open-mouthed until my little brother said 'Er, Andrea, don't do that,'" she says, emitting a short burst of self-mocking laughter. She recalls being particularly in awe of the way her friend Chloe drank juice from her cup. "I used to think she was so cool, so exciting and so I copied the way she drank because I wanted to be closer to her. I don't know whether that's exploration or voyeurism or what that is."
Whatever it was, those formative experiences served her well in her chosen career as an actress.

Simon Cowell has topped a list of TV's most talented entertainers. The Britain's Got Talent and X Factor judge beat off competition from stars such as Ant and Dec and Jamie Oliver to win the accolade. The Devil's Whore actress Maxine Peaks took second place in the listing, while Dr Who star Russell Tovey came third. Fourth place went to presenting duo And & Dec, (more)...

London – Channel 4 chief executive Andy Duncan announced his resignation Wednesday morning, following a board meeting in which he told Channel 4 bosses that he would leave the broadcaster before the year-end.
The move brings to an end Duncan's five-year tenure atop the broadcaster behind such shows as "Death of a President" and multi Oscar winner "Slumdog Millionaire," and marks a likely end to merger talks between Channel 4 and BBC Worldwide that had been under discussion for almost a year.
It also mean that Channel 4 will be without a chairman and a chief executive by the end of the year, when current chairman Luke Johnson steps down, with speculation that ITV director of channels Peter Fincham, Talkback Thames chief executive Lorraine Heggessey, Channel 4 director of programs Kevin Lygo and BBC director of vision Jana Bennett could all pitch for the CEO job.

Andrea Riseborough has joined Sam Riley in Brighton Rock, BBC Films' adaptation of the Graham Greene novel. This is, of course, the second time Greene's crime classic has been brought to the screen, with Richard Attenborough making such a memorable turn as sinewy, sinister small-town hoodlum Pinkie Brown in the 1947 version. This time around hoodlum honours go to Riley, with Riseborough (best known for Mike Leigh's Happy-Go-Lucky and telly period drama The Devil's Whore) playing the waitress who blackmails him into marrying her.Brighton Rock marks the directorial debut of Rowan (son of Roland) Joffé, up until now best known for his 28 Weeks Later screenplay. Filming starts this autumn.Riseborough, meanwhile, is next up in another literary adaption, appearing alongside Keira Knightley in Mark Romanek's adaptation of Kazuo Ishiguro's Never Let Me Go. She follows that with a turn in the not-as-saucy-as-it-sounds We Want Sex, a...

I'm currently overseas right now, but I prepared this earlier so y'all can be kept abreast of all the goings-on in my corner of the globe.
Cinema Releases for the Week 02/04/09
Inkheart - Brendan Fraser stars in this fantasy adventure movie. Or, I think that's what it is. Somehow Helen Mirren got herself involved with this. Somehow.
Monsters vs Aliens - I am hoping that Monsters vs Aliens becomes only the third Dreamworks Animation title that I actually like (after Antz and Over the Hedge - everything else is garbage). I think I will like it, but I've been proven wrong before plenty of times.
The Pink Panther 2 - Even Beyonce knew when to jump ship on this one. Just say no!
Summer Hours - The latest from Olivier Assayas (Clean, demonlover) stars Juliette Binoche. The only person I know to have seen it, Paul at MelbFilmBlog, really liked it.

London -- Controversial talk show host Jonathan Ross has been nominated for a BAFTA TV award for his weekly BBC1 entertainment show "Friday Night With Jonathan Ross."
The nomination comes despite Ross being suspended by BBC bosses for three months at the beginning of the year for his role in making obscene phone calls that were broadcast on BBC Radio Two.
Ross, who returned to TV screens in January and who recently presented the British Academy film awards, is nominated in the best entertainment performance category. He will compete alongside Stephen Fry for BBC2 quiz show "Qi," comedian Harry Hill for ITV1's satirical show "Harry Hill's TV Burp," and Ant and Dec, hosts of ITV1's "I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here." "Burp" and "Qi" are also nominated in the best entertainment program category alongside ITV1's "X factor" and Channel 4's "Friday Night Project."

This tasty treat, just released in Region 2, is wending its way to me from across the pond as we speak. Oh, do I love my region-free DVD player, which gives me freedom from my own impatience -- I don’t have to wait for this to be released in Region 1, which might not happen for years. For not only can I not resist a historical costume action drama with a title like The Devil’s Whore, I cannot resist anything starring John Simm. *sigh* Of course, had I truly been incapable of coping with my own impatience, I would have already watched the files I downloaded months ago, but they’re still sitting on my hard drive virtually unseen...

One-off documentary Jack: A Soldier's Story received little interest on Wednesday night, according to early ratings figures. The piece - first shown on BBC Three - followed 24-year-old soldier Jack Mizon as he returned from fighting in Afghanistan and attempted to readjust to regular life in the UK. Broadcast in the prime 9pm slot on BBC One on Wednesday, it managed just 2.19m (10.1%). ITV1 comfortably triumphed in the slot with 4.73m (21.7%) for Cops With Cameras, while on BBC Two, Heroes brought in 2.11m (9.6%). Spinoff show Heroes Unmasked had 1.2m (5.7%) at 9.45pm, then BBC Three's premiere of the next episode had the best multichannel audience of the day with 919k (5.6%). The concluding part of civil war drama The Devil's Whore put in 1.83m (8.4%) for Channel 4 at 9pm. Over four weeks, the programme, which stars John Simm and Dominic (more)...
