Ten films that didn't live up to expectations
Ten Most Disappointing Films of 2009
This year I've decided I'm not going to write a "Worst of 2009" list. What's the point? If you must you can visit the review archives for 2009, sort by grade and find my reviews of Fanboys, The Last House on the Left, All About Steve and I Love You Beth Cooper and then fill in six of your choosing from the "D" section and be done with it. Instead, I'm going back to what I've done only one other time and going to take a look back at the films that ended up disappointing me on one lever or another.
This way I don't have to talk about The Marc Pease Experience or Bride Wars. Year One and Whiteout don't need further dicussion and neither does G.I. Joe: Rise of the Cobra of Fighting. Instead I can

This decade’s film: 2000-2004

Pottermania, Tolkein-mania, Twilight-mania…it’s fair to say that the noughties have been a strong one for different kinds of mania. Moreover, it’s also been the time for some pretty awesome movies.
2000 marked a particularly promising start: American Beauty, the directorial debut from Sam Mendes was a unique critique on the American dream that attracted widespread acclaim, being nominated for 8 Academy Awards and winning 5; including Best Picture. His next project, Road to Perdition proved this success to be no fluke. Apparently this was a good time for new directors, as further evidenced by Sofia Coppola’s The Virgin Suicides, and Spike Jonze’s Being John Malkovich.
Not that the decade was limited to low-budget concept flicks. Box office-smashing comic book adaptations became the name of the game; ranging from the great (Spider-Man, X-Men and Hellboy), to the not so much (Daredevil and Fantastic Four). It became (almost) socially acceptable

The cast continues to grow for John Regan's Sherwood Horror , a contemporary set reimagining of the Robin Hood legend with bite (aka vampires!), which we first told you about here .
Ex-con Rob Locksley (DJ Perry of Ghost Town , The 8th Plague , Blood Ties and Dog ) returns home after a six-year absence to find his town under the rule of vampires. He must join forces with his old roughneck hunting buddies to wage war against the evil Sheriff and his horde of blood-suckers.
Newcomer Mike Powers is set to join Taymour Ghazi as one of Locksley's merry men. Powers will play Will, Locksley's impulsive younger cousin, who fronts a punk band "Scarlet Fever" in a small southern town. He also happens to be quick-witted and deadly with a dagger.
Powers is co-host of

As Charred Walls Of The Damned prepare for their self-titled debut album out February 2nd 2010 – the group is gearing up for their official release by unleashing a “radio spot” created by Richard Christy himself. The “radio spot” that is now being streamed via the band's MySpace page features clips of the first single Ghost Town, taken from the band's debut album, Charred Walls of the Damned.
Christy, as some may recall is a frequent affiliate of the Fangoria crew, most recently appearing at our Trinity Of Terrors event in Las Vegas last month.
"I am beyond excited about how the Charred Walls of the Damned album turned out. Tim, Steve and Jason all did an amazing job and I can't wait for people to hear it! The songs are super heavy and melodic at the same time, and I think my fellow Metalheads will be pumped when they hear the

The greatest movie I have ever seen.
****Disclaimer**** This review is for entertainment purposes only. Do not be alarmed by my hands on your chest, Bella. I must feel your heartbeat in order to make sure you're still breathing. I also must check you for breast cancer. I know you're only 17. Just go with it.I have to admit, I hated Twilight. I thought it was one of the biggest pieces of trash I had ever seen. Director Catherine Hardwick couldn't handle a Viewmaster much less be able to handle the technical know how needed to make a full length motion picture. But that didn't stop the hordes of Twilight fans who read every book over and over, anxious to see their tale of teen vampire angst on screen. Twilight made over $380 million dollars worldwide, keeping the employees of Summit Entertainment from a future career at Starbucks. I must also

David Koepp To Direct Premium Rush

You may not know his name, but everyone in America has seen David Koepp's work. Remember that Spielberg movie about dinosaurs that came out in 1993? Koepp wrote it. Remember its sequel in 1997? Koepp wrote it. Remember that film about that superhero with spider powers from 2002? Koepp wrote it. Remember the most recent Indiana Jones movie and how it made you want to vomit blood? Koepp wrote that, too. He is the go-to man for blockbusters in Hollywood, but always gets overshadowed by the bigger name (Spielberg, Lucas) or the bigger character. He has also been directing since 1994, but has yet to have the same success that he has had as a writer. That, however, may change very soon.
Variety is reporting that Sony has tapped Koepp to direct Premium Rush, a big-budget action film scripted by John Kamps, whom Koepp previously worked with on Ghost Town and Zathura. The

David Koepp Directing Bike Messenger Movie Premium Rush

David Koepp, who's probably better known as a screenwriter than a director, has set up his next directing project at Sony. Koepp will helm Premium Rush, a bike messenger action movie, being produced by Gavin Polone (who last worked on Zombieland). The story centers on a New York bike messenger who picks up an envelope at Columbia University to deliver. A dirty cop is desperate to get his hands on the envelope as well, and chases the bike messenger throughout the city. The screenplay was written by Koepp and his frequent collaborator John Kamps. I've got to admit, this sounds like it'll be awesome, I'm already excited to see it.
Koepp last directed Ghost Town as well as Secret Window, Stir of Echoes, and The Trigger Effect before that. His most recent screenplays include Angels & Demons, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, Zathura, and War of the

David Koepp Speeds Towards a Premium Rush

Apparently, David Koepp likes the directing chair. Although this year’s Ghost Town broke a four-year hiatus from directing, Koepp is getting behind the camera again, this time for Premium Rush. Unfortunately for music fans, it will not be a behind-the-music look at everyone’s favorite Canadian rockers. Instead, Premium Rush will tell the story of a twentysomething bike messenger who innocently picks up an envelope from Columbia University. Of course, a dirty cop wants the envelope and will stop at nothing to get it. Though Koepp has written fantastic movies like Jurassic Park and Spiderman he has directed bad films like Stir of Echoes and Secret Window. Which will Premium Rush be? It’s too soon to tell but Variety is reporting that it will be a big-budget action flick so at the least it will have things that go boom.

David Koepp Will Write/Direct That ‘Quicksilver’ Remake You’ve Been Wanting

That may not be technically accurate...
Per Variety, David Koepp will write and direct a new film called Premium Rush about a bike messenger with a valuable package who gets chased throughout New York City by a dirty cop. The film "is being conceived as a big-budget actioner, much like the films Koepp is known for penning, and will feature the kind of elaborate chases associated with a William Friedkin pic."
Koepp is "known for penning" quite a few films, but his big actioner ones include Angels & Demons, Indiana Jones & The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, War of the Worlds, Spider-Man, and The Lost World: Jurassic Park. That's an incredibly mixed bag quality-wise, so there's no telling if the new film will be any good. Koepp has directed before, but all of those films (including the under-rated Ghost Town) have been much lower-budgeted affairs.
It's obviously way too early in the process to seriously question Koepp's intention

Here’s an interesting thing: David Koepp, one of the most powerful screenwriters in Hollywood, is at last going to direct the kind of movie that he bangs out on a regular basis for his regular boss, Steven Spielberg.Which is to say that Koepp has signed to direct Premium Rush, sadly not a biopic about the greatest striker in Liverpool’s history but instead a high-concept, big-budget thriller about a bike messenger who picks up a parcel so important that he’s chased through a city by a corrupt cop, who’s desperate to get his mitts on it.So far, Koepp’s four directorial outings have all been relatively low-key affairs that have been based, to some degree or other, on a supernatural/fantastical premise, from Ghost Town to Stir Of Echoes to Secret Window to The Trigger Effect.Premium Rush, from the deliberately ridiculous title to the plot,

David Koepp will helm "Premium Rush" for Columbia Pictures, directing from a screenplay he wrote with frequent collaborator John Kamps.
Koepp last directed "Ghost Town" starring Ricky Gervas, Tea Leoni and Greg Kinnear for DreamWorks.
Gavin Polone ("Zombieland") produces. This marks the fifth time he has worked with Koepp. The story centers on a New York City bike messenger in his twenties who picks up an envelope at Columbia University. However, he's soon pursued by a dirty cop who is desperate to get the envelope and chases him throughout the city.
"Premium Rush" is being conceived as a big-budget actioner and is being fast-tracked by Sony who will be looking to cast their leading man soon.

David Koepp is best known as one of Hollywood's highest paid screenwriters (and one of Spielberg's scribes). His screenwriting credits include everything from Toy Soldiers, Jurassic Park, and Carlito's Way, to Panic Room, Spider-Man, War of the Worlds and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.
For the last decade he's been trying to make the transition into feature film directing. He made his debut with the promising Stir of Echoes, but has since followed up with some lackluster efforts, the 2004 Stephen King adaptation Secret Window and the 2008 Ricky Gervais supernatural romantic comedy Ghost Town. Honestly, I think Koepp is a much better screenwriter than he is a filmmaker, and that's not saying much considering the abundance of lackluster screenplays he's been involved with in the last 10-12 years. With that kind of intro, you must be really interested in his next directorial effort (yes, that was

Bangarang for Casting Tidbits! First up, THR reports Keir Gilchrist (of Showtime's "United States of Tara") has joined Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck's coming'-of-age film It's Kind of a Funny Story based on Ned Vizzini's novel. Also joining the cast are Zoe Kravitz (Assassination of a High School Presient), Aasif Mandavi (Ghost Town), Lauren Graham (Flash of Genius) and Jim Gaffigan (Away We Go) in the story of a 16-year-old (Gilchrist) who, stressed out from the demands of being a teenager, checks himself into a mental health clinic where he finds the youth ward to be full, forcing him into the adult ward.
THR also reports that Owen Wilson has signed on to play the titular dog Marmaduke in the feature film adaptation of the classic newspaper comic strip created in 1954 and is still running in papers to this day. The strip revolves around the Winslow family and

Ricky Gervais to host Golden Globes

Ricky Gervais will be the first person to host the Golden Globe Awards since 1995.
The creator of the British version of “The Office” and star of films The Invention of Lying and Ghost Town will be the man of the hour (or hours) on January 17, 2010 on NBC.
The 67th Annual Golden Globe Awards are clearly doing something a little different and the timing couldn’t be better. Last year the Academy Awards went away from a comedy with Hugh Jackman (aka the Wolverine song-and-dance man) as a host. While they called it a success, it now opens the door for another awards show to be the one to make fun of Hollywood while honoring it as well. It doesn’t hurt that there’s an open bar at the event as well.
Gervais released this statement:
Not only is this the biggest Hollywood celebration of the industry which includes both film and TV,

Today NBC, the broadcaster of the Golden Globe Awards, has annoucced that British comedian Ricky Gervais will host the awards ceremony on Sunday, January 17, 2010.
I understand that he's not universally loved, but I find Gervais to be very funny. I had the opportunity to meet him very briefly this year at the Toronto International Film Festival, where he premiered The Invention of Lying. He was super-nice and stopped to take a picture with a friend of mine. My friend Cindy think he's "offensively hillarious".
Unlike the Oscars, the Golden Globes have not had a host since 1995, but NBC and the Hollywood Foreign Press Association have decided to change things up:
"Not only is this the biggest Hollywood celebration of the industry which includes both film and TV, but also an environment where I feel I can get free reign as a host. I have resisted many other offers like this,

British comedian Ricky Gervais is no stranger to laughter, making his way from the hit BBC series "The Office" all the way to leading roles in films like Ghost Town and more recently The Invention of Lying (you can check out Brandon's review here). Now Gervais will finally get a job that I've been hoping he'd get for a few years now, as he's been named the host of the 67th Annual Golden Globe Awards, which will be broadcast live on the evening of January 17th, 2010 on NBC. This marks the first time that the Hollywood Foreign Press Association's yearly gala has had a real host since 1995! No pressure whatsoever, Mr. Gervais.
I've wanted to Gervais to host a gig like this for some time now because whenever he's presented at these awards shows, he brings a motherload of hilarity (click either of those for examples). Apparently he's been asked

Oscar-watchers have been furtively hoping for years now that Ricky Gervais might bring some of his special dry humor to the awards ceremony one of these days, but it's those blasted Golden Globes that have won him in the end. Variety is reporting that Gervais has been chosen to host this year's Golden Globes broadcast, for reasons evident to anyone who watches the various clips below.
Really, the only thing about this that's bad news is that Gervais won't be hosting the Oscars, though that probably wasn't going to happen with musicals-guy Adam Shankman behind it. And give how unwatchable the Globes can be sometimes-- all the awards for miniseries!-- Gervais is likely to make things a lot more entertaining. Especially if he brings Steve Carella along to continue their epic feud.
Of course, there are some theories that Gervais's movies thus far-- Ghost Town and The Invention of
