ABC has ordered the drama pilot “The Company You Keep” with Milo Ventimiglia attached to star, Variety has learned.

It’s been awhile since the world has seen a new comedy from Greg Daniels, co-creator of The Office (U.S.) and Parks and Recreation. That all changes this month with Amazon Prime’s new releases for May 2020. That’s right, leading the pack of Amazon originals on May 1 is Daniels’ Upload, a comedy about digital afterlives. That should inject a healthy dose of sci-fi “middletopia” into our lives.
Also premiering in May is the second season of Amazon Prime’s twisty drama Homecoming. This season starts Janelle Monáe and premieres on May 22. After that, the rest of Amazon’s originals this month are fairly film-centric. The Goldfinch, Seberg, and The Vast of Night are the notable original films arriving in May.

There are few surefire successes in television. It just so happens that with its new releases for May 2020, Hulu almost certainly found itself one. May 8 sees the debut of all eight episodes of Solar Opposites, the latest sci-fi animated effort from Rick and Morty co-creator Justin Roiland. This is a brand new story featuring a family of aliens crashing to Earth and learning to live amongst the rest of us weirdos. But the animation style and sci-fi themes hew so closely to Rick and Morty that there’s no way this won’t be a hit.
On the off chance Solar Opposites doesn’t set the world ablaze, Hulu has some other intriguing content lottery tickets for May. The Great premieres on May 15 and is a comedic period piece about Catherine the Great starring Elle Fanning and Nicholas Hoult. You can’t accuse Hulu of not taking big swings this month!

It goes without saying that the pandemic is keeping everyone stuck inside with little to do besides watch television, play video games, and read. Here’s some great news, though: There’s plenty coming to Netflix, Hulu, Disney+, and Amazon Prime in May, so put away the books and the games, and get ready to binge some excellent shows and films.
On Netflix, you can catch some notable comedy entries next month like the Jim Carrey-led Ace Ventura: Pet Detective and Fun with Dick and Jane, while action-horror fans may be delighted to hear that multiple Underworld films will be dropping on the service. The lesser-known Jarhead trilogy will be available on the 1st, and the first two pics in the Back to the Future trilogy will join the third film for streaming. IFC Midnight has already picked up Clay Staub's Devil's Gate. The deal was brokered this past May. Recently, a trailer was released for the title, at the Uhm. The clip shows a decrepit house and a strange monster. Local officials face the creature. But, none is likely to survive. Devil's Gate stars: Milo Ventimiglia (Pathology, 2008), Bridget Regan, Amanda Schull and Shawn Ashmore. The film's official trailer can be found here. The long synopsis talks of a missing mother and son. Their father is searching for them, but he has found something sinister. Now, it is locked in a basement, with traps all around. An FBI agent and Deputy attend the scene. They have bitten off more than they can chew as the creature escapes its bonds. Devil's Gate is expected to release in late 2017 or early 2018. An official release date has not been announced. For now, horror fans can...

Before he became the object of TV fan crushes on Gilmore Girls, it turns out Milo Ventimiglia was on the other end of one aimed at Alyssa Milano.
In an interview with W Magazine, the 39-year-old actor revealed Who’s The Boss–era Milano as his childhood dream girl. “When I was a kid it was totally Alyssa Milano,” Ventimiglia told the magazine. “I think everybody had a crush on Alyssa Milano.”
Milano, 44 — who costarred with Ventimiglia in the 2008 horror film Pathology as his fiancée — remained oblivious to this infatuation, even after becoming close enough friends to name her first child after him.

The heavy metal group Slipknot and the cult action film “Crank” may not have much in common face, but creators from both entities have come together to adapt a hyper-violent graphic novel. Slipknot co-founder Shawn Crahan, a.k.a. “Clown,” and “Crank” co-director Mark Neveldine have brought Joe Casey’s “Officer Downe” to the big screen. Written by Casey himself, the film stars Kim Coates (“Sons of Anarchy”) as Officer Downe, a deceased police officer resurrected from the dead to keep fighting crime. Watch an exclusive clip from the film below.

It’s been 10 years since Neveldine/Taylor’s Crank was released. We look back at what might be Jason Statham’s best film...
Whenever we interview anyone for Den of Geek, we try to throw in a curveball of a final question by asking them, “What’s your favourite Jason Statham movie?” Obviously, there are plenty to choose from, but to date, the most common answer is Crank. Simon Pegg loves it. James McAvoy loves it. Rupert Grint loves it. The list goes on, and for good reason: it’s bonkers, and brilliant, and almost completely unique.
The contrivance that kickstarts Crank’s action is a great one: hitman Chev Chelios (The Statham, naturally) has been poisoned by a rival gangster, injected with a synthetic compound that blocks his adrenaline receptors. To stay alive, he’ll need to jack himself up with as many stimulants as possible.

Mark Neveldine, best known for his wild collaborations with Brian Taylor (Crank/Gamer), is one of the most lovably renegade filmmakers in the game today. His daredevil dedication to achieving the perfect shot has been detailed by curious paparazzi members on numerous occasions, because when you see a director holding onto a motorcycle while wearing rollerblades, you tend to get a little curious. But his latest film, The Vatican Tapes, is a solo departure from those typically outrageous action stylings. There’s no need for high-speed filming techniques in this barely-found-footage exorcism thriller, as this religious shocker calls for a much more restrained lens. Possession plotlines require a low-and-slow handling – something Neveldine isn’t exactly used to doing.

Special Mention: The Fake Trailers from Grindhouse (2007, USA): The four fake trailers featured in the otherwise disappointing Robert Rodriguez/Quentin Tarantino double-feature: Machete by Robert Rodriguez, Werewolf Women of the SS by Rob Zombie, Thanksgiving by Eli Roth and Don’t by Edgar Wright-are all very entertaining trips down horror/exploitation film memory lane and are easily the best part of the film.

Democracy is a flawed concept. Here are 50 films that the IMDb voters would unfairly have you believe are worth no more than 5.9/10…
Six out of ten isn’t a very good score, really. It’s barely over half marks. 60 per cent. It’s alright, but it’s not great. You wouldn’t be proud of getting six out of ten on most kinds of tests, would you? So you might assume that any film that scores under six stars out of ten on the IMDb isn’t very good – possibly even terrible.
But that’s not always the case. Averages don’t tell the whole story; anything that’s potentially controversial or divisive will end up with a score that suggests most people weren’t that bothered about it, since high and low scores will be averaged – and IMDb users often exaggerate their scores anyway, giving a film one star...

If heroes are only as good as their villains, Ghost Rider must be doing something right. In Sony's 2007 feature film Ghost Rider, a cursed Johnny Blaze (Nicolas Cage) barely survived an encounter with Blackheart, and his elemental minions. Now in the new Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance, he must contend with an even greater threat, namely Blackout, whose mere touch decays and destroys. FEARnet spoke exclusively with actor Johnny Whitworth (Pathology, Limitless, 3:10 to Yuma) about playing the movie's big bad, channelling his anger and what makes Spirit of Vengeance a balls-to-the-wall sequel. Had you previously auditioned for a comic book role? That's a good question. Yeah, I auditioned for...

In anticipation of Ghost Rider: Spirit Of Vengeance, we had a chat to Mark Neveldine, one half of the writing/directing team who brought you Crank…
You probably didn’t know Mark Neveldine’s first name before you decided to read this interview. Neveldine/Taylor are usually referred to as, well, Neveldine and Taylor, the filmmaking team known for their over-the-top, frenetic directorial style and super-edgy subject matter.
They’re the team who brought us the Crank franchise (and thus many of Jason Statham’s finest moments); they tackled the weird world of online gaming in the wonderfully crazy Gamer; and they also wrote Pathology, one of the darkest and most disturbing horror movies of the past few years.
So it’s really, really exciting that they’re about to unleash their vision of Marvel’s darkest antihero in Ghost Rider: Spirit Of Vengeance this month. We grabbed Mark Neveldine for a chat about it…...

When I watched 2007’s film adaptation of the graphic novel Ghost Rider my thoughts on the subject were severely affected by the state of catatonic boredom that I slowly slipped into throughout it’s less than riveting running time.
When I heard that its sequel Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance was to be directed by Hollywood upstarts Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor I slipped back into consciousness. Dare I say that I was mildly excited?
Well I shan’t because I wasn’t. But that doesn’t mean I wasn’t optimistic. Despite what much of the film world might say, despite all of the reviews and the criticism, I maintain that Neveldine and Taylor are very talented directors. The fact that they can only do one thing doesn’t mean that they don’t do it extremely well. Think of them like Hugh Grant but behind the camera, and a lot less loveably bumbling.

Fancy a scare of the unfamiliar variety? Then check out some of the finest horror movies you've never seen...
There are a lot of terrible horror movies out there. Possibly more than any other genre, horror seems to appeal to wannabe filmmakers who figure it’s easy and cheap to pull off a scary movie – and thanks to the success of many low budget horror movies, distributors seem to be putting out an awful lot of them. So I’d understand if you didn’t want to trawl through an endless sea of crap to find the few real gems amongst the cinematic slurry.

As much as I despised "Heroes," I'm a big fan of actor Milo Ventimiglia, who also starred in Pathology, Rocky Balboa and Anchor Bay's forthcoming post-apocalyptic thriller The Divide. Next up he'll be starring alongside "The L Word's" Sarah Shahi in Static, a 3D thriller, TheWrap reports. Sara Paxton (The Last House on the Left, Truth or Dare, Shark Night 3D, The Innkeepers) also stars. Being helmed by music video director Todd Levin, "The movie is about a young couple, played by Ventimiglia and Shahi, on the verge of divorce after losing their child. Their world changes when a young visitor arrives, bringing supernatural implications to the household."...

Johnny Whitworth is no stranger to the Neveldine/Taylor team - the guys who gave us crank. The actor starred in Pathology which Mark (Neveldine) and Brian (Taylor) produced, and he appeared in Gamer . Next up, Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance and Shock Till You Drop's Scott Huver caught up to the actor to chat a bit about his villainous role in the upcoming sequel. Question: After 'Limitless' what are we going to see you in? What's coming up? Johnny Whitworth: Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance . I just wrapped that four days ago. In Romania. In Turkey. Question: I got asked to go there but I couldn't go. Whitworth: Oh, man. And I was totally in this character blackout makeup and I didn't get to go to that. I had to bow out. I was like, 'I'm not going to do...

The Western genre meshes well with horror and dark fantasy when done carefully. The Burrowers, Stephen Kings Wasteland series and Ravenous are all marvelous examples. They take both of their genre sources seriously and do more than combine the conventions of each. In short they are good movies, good novels, good stories. Jonah Hex is lifelessly adapted from solid source material but does not tell a good story. In fact it barely tells a story at all.
Hex (Josh Brolin) is a civil war veteran turned bounty recruited by the government to track down renegade terrorist Quentin Turnbull (John Malkovich) also the murderer of Hexs wife and son. Turnbull plans to unleash a nation killer weapon during the centennial celebration in Washington and Hex, together with his prostitute lover Lila (Megan Fox) is the only one who can stop him.

Xavier Gens' (Frontier(s), Hitman) latest, The Divide (formerly The Fallout), is finally in production outside the Millennium Centre building on Main Street in Winnipeg, Canada. The Divide stars Michael Biehn (James Cameron's The Terminator and Aliens) and Milo Ventimiglia (Pathology, "Heroes"). The two may not be playing the heroes, says the Winnipeg Free Press. The films include a post-apocalyptic thriller set mostly in an apartment building fallout shelter, a serial-killer thriller about a woman afflicted with "face blindness" and a coming-of-age story about a young girl seeking out her birth mother. The film also stars Rosanna Arquette (David Cronenberg's Crash), Courtney B. Vance and Lauren German (The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Hostel 2). German's character is at the centre of the film, set in New York, which is virtually destroyed in a mysterious explosion in the first act. More...

Cliff Dorfman, a staff writer on "Entourage" who also penned the upcoming Tom Hardy film "Warrior", will make his feature directorial debut on the film from his own script.
Michael Roban, Dave Brown, Greg Hadjarowicz and Paul Schiff will produce. Shooting kicks off late March in New Orleans.

Earlier this week, Peter from SlashFilm mentioned to me that Crank directors Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor had a brand new official website that is apparently quite badass and definitely worth checking out. I did just that and he's right, it is pretty badass, especially since these guys are crazy and they love going all out (just look at their movies). Not only do they have info and photos on all of their movies (Crank, Crank 2, Gamer, Pathology) but you can also look at some never-before-seen concept art from their version of Jonah Hex and also buy old drafts of scripts and posters and so much more. Even if you're not fans, check it out. Okay, I know, you're probably wondering why the hell you should care about this, and if you're not fans of Neveldine/Taylor, it doesn't really matter anyway. But it is a cool website with...

The Fall season always means two things -- it's time to wrap up marathon training and start planning Halloween costumes. Edward Norton and Paris Hilton are on top of those tasks, respectively. Norton's planning on running with some Kenyans in New York on November 1st, while Paris is hard a work costume hunting, but you'll have click on down to see where she's shopping.
Also today, Alyssa Milano emphatically denied that she is pregnant, so rumor-mongers back off. Read on to check out what she said, as well as where John Hodgman has been reading about Juggalos, what the weather is like on the "Eclipse" set and what Paul Reubens would have looked like in your high school yearbook. With Paranormal Activity performing well and Eli Roth's Cotton going into production soon, it looks as if Blair Witch inspired films are still hotter than ever (shocking considering it's been 10 years already). Bloody Disgusting got exclusive word on a new horror film in development over at Lionsgate entitled The Vatican Tapes. From a screenplay by Chris Borrelli, a tape is leaked from the Vatican that displays an exorcism that goes horribly wrong. It's said to take on attributes from Blair Witch and Rec. Gary Lucchesi (the Underworld franchise, The Exorcism of Emily Rose, Pathology, The Midnight Meat Train) is producing.

Directorial double act Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor seem to have an alarming amount of artistic control over their films. Their body of work to date (Crank, Pathology, Crank: High Voltage) contains some of the most brutally violent and sexually explicit scenes in contemporary cinema. They create chaotic worlds full of visual and aural excess, and up to a point I am a firm supporter of their cause. 2006’s Crank, for example, has the violent sensibilities of an 80s action picture combined with a frenetic and unique style of editing and shooting that sets it apart from the gritty, realistic action movies made since The Bourne Identity. They also created in Chev Chelios (played by Jason Statham) a pseudo-superhero who is truly invincible and completely devoid of Spidermanesque angst. Their latest film is Gamer, another completely insane action picture that gorges you on worrying images. But is there any enjoyment...

Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor have made careers for themselves by making action films. Films with little plot but loads of heart pounding, non-stop, balls-to-the-wall action. They're sometimes rude, sometimes crude and always unapologetic. Pathology was a deviation. Though the duo didn't direct, their story had more thought crammed into ten minutes than both Crank films put together. Gamer is an all together different beast which attempts to marry ideas with the Neveldine/Taylor style of action and the result is sometimes messy but also smart while never forgetting to be a whole lot of fun.
The near future is a crazy place. Advertisements are found everywhere, including the pyramids, and among the familiar brand names is a new beast: “Slayers.” In a world that features advanced and...

Few directors produce a body of work that syncs with a decade as well as John Hughes' work did with the 1980s. From "Sixteen Candles" to "Ferris Bueller's " and "The Breakfast Club," he gave everyone who ever lived through high school someone to relate to. His power wasn't lost on on filmgoers or today's filmmakers, both of whom inhabit the Twitter-Wood follow list.
Filmmakers including Kevin Smith and Diablo Cody, who both picked up the plight of the high school misanthrope from Hughes, as well as other stars like Rainn Wilson and Eliza Dushku tweeted in with their memories of Hughes' movies this afternoon, and many of them recalled what it was like come to his movies in the middle of the same kinds of real-life melodramas that he tackled.

Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor are not known for quiet, thoughtful dramas, taylor made for the Lifetime channel. Crank 2 can easily be described as an all out orgy of carnage and psychotic behavior, but Gamer is a whole different animal. This is a near future in an alternate universe where gamers log on and pilot a living, breathing human being in a life or death struggle. The winner ... well .. .they get to live ... and if they live long enough they might just go free! See, the human beings are also convicts. Plot Twist!!
To prepare Gerard Butler for his marathon of gunfire, the Neveldine/ Taylor connection employed the usual acupuncture needles and actors aflame they used for Pathology, adding a full on Navy Seal training camp to wuup Butler's body back into prime 300 shape. All of that is a joke of course. Don't sue me ... but they did say it!

You just can't turn your back on the Twitter-Wood feed. I stepped away for a couple of days to leave things in MTV Movies Blog editor Adam Rosenberg's capable hands, and "Eclipse" director David Slade activated a new account. He hit the ground tweeting, too, commenting about notes he just received from Stephenie Meyer about the next "Twilight" film. (Editor's note: Clearly my hands are not terribly capable.)
Meanwhile, Jon Favreau was partying down this weekend, celebrating an end to principal photography for "Iron Man 2." It looks like Dan Aykroyd better work fast if he wants to get Alyssa Milano in the upcoming Ghostbusters sequel -- she's starting to line up the feature gigs. Following her horror stint in Pathology, The Hollywood Reporter posts that Milano is grabbing a rom-com. She'll star and produce My Girlfriend's Boyfriend, which might sound like a sexuality-bending role for the actress, but really it's just typical. She'll play a woman who meets two perfect men and must decide between them. One (played by Christopher Gorham) is a struggling novelist, while the other (Michael Landes) is an ad exec. Where the girlfriend fits in is anyone's guess. However, the pic does have Beau Bridges and Carol Kane in additional roles, so there's that going for it.
Meanwhile, remembering the tough women I was asking for? We're getting at least one on the big screens soon with Elisabeth Shue. TMZ posted...
