Hayley Williams and her Paramore band members have a tape they’d like to play for you. Not long after parting ways with Atlantic Records to become an independent rock band, Paramore is teasing a partnership with A24 to release a 16-track Stop Making Sense tribute album inspired by the life-altering album and concert performance by the Talking Heads. While details remain a mystery, the project teases “16 tracks from 16 artists.”
Paramore is singer Hayley Williams, guitarist Taylor York, and drummer Zac Farro. Recently, the band created a panic among its fanbase when rumors about them breaking up circulated online. The nail-biting occurred when the band removed its website and scrubbed its social media platforms. However, the band has no intention of parting ways—quite the opposite. In addition to announcing the Stop Making Sense tribute album, Paramore will support Taylor Swift on her sold-out Eras arena tour in 2024.

Paul Reubens’ cause of death has been revealed months following his death in July.
The late actor died from acute hypoxic respiratory failure, according to his death certificate that People obtained and his rep confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter Saturday. The condition happens when the respiratory system cannot adequately provide oxygen to the body.
Reubens, the man behind the iconic character Pee-wee Herman, died in Los Angeles at the age of 70. He had also been battling two types of cancer for several years prior to his death, his rep said.
“Last night we said farewell to Paul Reubens, an iconic American actor, comedian, writer and producer whose beloved character Pee-wee Herman delighted generations of children and adults with his positivity, whimsy and belief in the importance of kindness,” a statement read at the time of his death. “Paul bravely and privately fought cancer for years with his trademark tenacity and wit.

"They made the greatest concert film of all time. This fall A24 invites you to see why." A24 has revealed the full official trailer for their 4K restoration re-release of this documentary Stop Making Sense, directed by Jonathan Demme and first released in 1984. Widely considered one of these best concert docs ever made, this classic is getting another chance to shine. "This year, we're bringing Demme's groundbreaking 1984 Talking Heads concert film Stop Making Sense (newly remastered in 4K!) back to theaters worldwide." The live performance was shot over three nights at Hollywood's Pantages Theatre in December of 1983, and features such memorable Talking Heads songs as "Burning Down the House," "Life During Wartime," "Take Me to the River," "Psycho Killer" and "Once in a Lifetime." The Talking Heads also adds: "There was a band. There was a concert. This must be the movie!" The band broke up in 1991 and played briefly...

Talking Heads have a tape they want to play — again. Ahead of its 4k re-release in theaters in September, A24 has shared a new trailer for the band’s indelible concert film Stop Making Sense. Check out the clip below.
Widely regarded as the greatest concert film of all time, director Jonathan Demme made Stop Making Sense from the footage of three shows Talking Heads played at the Pantages Theater in Hollywood in December 1983. Featuring all of the band’s biggest songs up until that point — “Psycho Killer,” “Burning Down the House,” and “Life During Wartime” among them — the concerts were highly choreographed and pioneered the use of digital audio, moving beyond a straightforward live recording. Backing members Lynn Mabry, Ednah Holt, Alex Weir, Bernie Worrell, and Steve Scales (and David Byrne’s oversized suit) added to the movie’s power as well.

Fresh off his appearance on IndieWire’s Best Performances of the 80s list, David Byrne will be bringing down the house — hopefully packed movie theater houses.
A24 is gearing up for its re-release of Jonathan Demme’s adored Talking Heads concert documentary “Stop Making Sense” at TIFF and in a Global IMAX Live event on September 11, with the film rolling out to the general public in the weeks after. Watch the trailer below.
The distributor had previously released a 40-second teaser that showed Byrne picking up his laundry and getting back… the big suit! The comically oversized, boxy suit the buttoned-down singer/songwriter wears during the latter part of the concert during songs like “Girlfriend Is Better.” In that teaser, he put it on again and did his trademark wiggle, the awkward-chic moves that, along with many other things, have endeared him to audiences the past four decades.

After 21 years of bitter estrangement, Talking Heads have agreed to come together for the first time since their induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. But don’t get overly excited. They aren’t booking a reunion tour or a headlining slot at Coachella next year. Instead, they will appear together at a 40th-anniversary screening of Stop Making Sense at the Toronto International Film Festival. Spike Lee will moderate a post-screening Q&a.

Stop Making Sense is returning to theaters later this year, and now, the Talking Heads concert film is getting a shiny new soundtrack to go along with it. Rhino is issuing an updated deluxe edition on August 18th, complete with the film’s full setlist as well as two previously unreleased songs.
Filmmaker Jonathan Demme conceived the idea of Stop Making Sense in 1983 when he caught Talking Heads on tour supporting new album at the time, Speaking in Tongues. By the end of that calendar year, the filmmaker shot three concerts at Hollywood’s Pantages Theater, and the final product was released the following year. For those of us who weren’t lucky enough to see it at the time, it’s set to arrive in theaters again via A24 sometime in 2023.

Here we go again...! A24 is planning a special 4K restoration re-release of this documentary Stop Making Sense, from Jonathan Demme and first released in 1984. Widely considered one of these best concert docs ever made, setting a precedent that others follow in its footsteps, this classic is getting another chance to shine. "If the suit still fits... This year, we're bringing Demme's groundbreaking 1984 Talking Heads concert film Stop Making Sense (newly remastered in 4K!) back to theaters worldwide." The live performance was shot over three nights at Hollywood's Pantages Theatre in December of 1983, and features such memorable Talking Heads songs as "Burning Down the House," "Life During Wartime," "Take Me to the River," "Psycho Killer" and "Once in a Lifetime." The Talking Heads released a statement as well: "There was a band. There was a concert. This must be the movie!" The band broke up in 1991 and played briefly at...

There are concert films, and then there's Jonathan Demme's "Stop Making Sense," incorporating footage from the final shows of Talking Heads' 1983 "Speaking in Tongues" tour. There are only a handful of concert documentaries that even come close to the intense brilliance of "Stop Making Sense," among them Martin Scorsese's "The Last Waltz," Saul Swimmer's "The Concert for Bangladesh," and Spike Lee's "David Byrne's American Utopia." Now, 40 years after the concert and 39 years after the film released, A24 will be bringing "Stop Making Sense" back to theaters with a glorious 4K restoration, which is just about the best news for music fans because it's the ultimate concert movie.
"Stop Making Sense" takes the concert experience and gives audiences a closer look at the performances without ever showing the behind-the-scenes magic that makes those performances come alive. While many concert docs focus on personal turmoil in the...

After sweeping the 95th Academy Awards with seven monumental wins for Everything Everywhere All At Once, A24 plans to release the Talking Heads concert film Stop Making Sense in 4K for a theatrical release! Director Jonathan Demme’s first concert film is my favorite concert experience ever captured on film. The phenomenal performance by the Talking Heads changed how I listen to music. I’ll never forget the first time I watched Stop Making Sense on my way to All Tomorrow’s Parties 2008, curated by My Bloody Valentine.
Stop Making Sense stars core band members David Byrne, Tina Weymouth, Chris Frantz, Jerry Harrison, P-Funk Bernie Worrell, Alex Weir, Steve Scales, Lynn Mabry, and Edna Holt. Talking Heads’ classic 1984 concert film Stop Making Sense — Number Four on Rolling Stone’s List of the Best Music Documentaries — will return to theaters later this year with a new 4K restoration courtesy of A24.

A24 will give the director Jonathan Demme’s first concert pic a 4K restoration. If the company can polish this up in time, boy, this would be a fun midnight film for Cannes. The news comes off the heels of A24 acquiring and re-releasing Darren Aronofsky’s Pi.

David Byrne knows where he’s going and he knows where he’s been, and the former Talking Heads band leader and near Egot winner is on his way to the Oscars again, 35 years after taking home the original score Academy Award for Bernardo Bertolucci’s The Last Emperor (which he shared with Ryuichi Sakamoto and Cong Su) with a song nomination for “This Is a Life” from A24’s 11x Oscar nominated Everything Everywhere All at Once which he co-wrote with the pic’s composers Son Lux and Mitski. If Byrne wins a second Oscar next Sunday, it doesn’t bring him closer to an Egot; he needs an Emmy win to do that after two Grammys and a special Tony award for his Broadway showstopper American Utopia.

Alice Glass has released new song “Suffer and Swallow,” the first single from her upcoming debut album, due out later this year.
The glitchy track deals in themes of reclaiming power over someone or something that seemingly held the control. “Suffer and swallow (suffer and swallow)/You know there’s no tomorrow (you know there’s no tomorrow)/I did this for you,” Glass ethereally sings on the chorus with a harsh contrasting backing vocal echoing her lyrics. “Suffer and swallow (suffer and swallow)/I know what you are/I know what you are.

David Byrne is one of the most resilient musical artists in modern history, and his talent for satisfying audiences while leading them into unexpected places has shown no signs of wear. As recently as February, Byrne was throwing a party on Broadway every night with “American Utopia,” resurrecting and refashioning some of his greatest hits alongside new compositions into a visually dazzling meditation on how a troubled nation can harbor greater potential. At some point, the Spike Lee-directed version of “American Utopia” announced earlier this year may give more audiences a chance to hang with Byrne’s latest euphoric sensation; until then, there is still “Stop Making Sense,” which still delivers all the joy you need to get through the day.

Stephen Colbert was going over the aftermath of President Donald Trump’s Senate acquittal, focusing on the gathering at the White House, which some called a victory lap. Colbert referred to it as a “Presidential pity party,” and said that the President claimed everyone had it in for him from the very beginning, “…from the day we rode down the elevator.”
Colbert had just one problem with that statement. “It wasn’t an elevator. Everyone knows it was an escalator! You were riding on it. We gotcha now, Mr. President!”
Everyone seemed confused on just what the event was at the White House. Even President Trump conceded, “It’s not a news conference. It’s not a speech. It’s not anything.” Colbert thought that was a little too close to Life During Wartime by Talking Heads, where “this ain’t no party. This ain’t no disco. This ain’t no foolin’ around.

Self-described “old homeboy” Bruce Springsteen was on hand Monday night (June 18) to usher in a new era at the grand reopening of Asbury Lanes, the combination bowling alley, bar and live music venue, in Asbury Park, New Jersey.
“We didn’t know if we would ever see Asbury come back or not, in our lifetime, so it’s been a joy watching what’s been happening in town over the past 10, 15 or 20 years,” he told a crowd of less than 800 people. “I walk down the boardwalk now, I feel like the Ghost of Christmas Past,” he said, praising the art and Lgbtq communities for the rebirth of the seaside community that nurtured his own artistic growth. “But that’s okay. It’s fun to watch Asbury’s future unfold in front of me.”
With that, Springsteen introduced the evening’s entertainment, which included photographer Danny Clinch’s Tangiers Blues Band and Portland,...
