Annette Andre v Alexandra Bastedo
powellrobert3112 March 2010
This is another fabulous episode for many reasons. The wit and humour of our 'dynamic duo' is in full throttle, as Marty is threatened with the possibility of being invisible to Jeff for good. Hopkirk actually looks ill in several scenes, but eventually Jeff comes to his rescue at his own exorcism. The episode is also memorable for the cat fight between Annette Andre (Jeannie),and Alexandra Bastedo (Carol Latimer) in the final graveyard scene. 'Good girl, Jeannie' shouts Marty, as she gets the better of the evil Carol and holds her for the police to arrest. So many great actors have appeared in individual episodes of Randall and Hopkirk, and have then gone on to star in other not so memorable TV series. Bastedo was an exception of course. She was one of the Champions too!

Not so Hale and Hearty Marty
Lejink18 March 2023
One of the best episodes of the series and one I definitely remember watching and enjoying hugely as a kid when the show first aired back in 1969.

In it, Marty is imperilled by a cranky old psychic who can actually see him and in a roundabout way uses him to inveigle Jeff into misleading the police about a bunch of expensive burglaries carried out by the criminal gang the professor works for.

All through the episode, the prof's malign influence is upsetting our white-suited friend's metabolism, making Marty feel progressively worse as time goes by, culminating in an attempt to exorcise him out of existence, which he seeks to implement with Jeanie's innocent, unknowing assistance. Thankfully, Jeff lays out the long suffering police commissioner en-route to saving the day at Marty's graveside ensuring our favourite phantom investigator can return for the next episode.

Beautifully and cleverly written from start to finish, it's well played as always by Messrs Pratt and Cope, plus there was an added bonus for me when my other childhood crush, besides Annette Andre, in the form of future Champion Alexandra Bastedo showed up as the professor's assistant.

Definitely a fans' favourite and definitely one of this fan's favourites.

That Good Ol' English Foot Shuffle
richard.fuller111 August 2006
Warning: Spoilers
In this episode, an exorcist is able to see Marty and the bad guys use his knowledge to trick Randall into giving false information to the police.

Wonderful banter between our two stars, and very amusingly unique ending to the drama. Very unique episode in this series.

But in that one crucial scene, we see Jeff (Mike Pratt) hurrying to the library or study, where he finds the bound and gagged master of the manor. The emeralds are stolen.

Watch Pratt hurry.

How many times have I seen an Englishman from the mod 1960s, with long-lengthed hair, straight legged pants and wearing a suit, as well as the dress shoes, do that little foot slide that Mike does here? I would surmise it has something to do with keeping your foot down so you can kick the ball, a la soccer (which is what we Americans call football for the rest of the world).

A good episode all the way round.
