Iconic and Classic Episode
sambase-3877316 November 2021
One of the most famous Brady Bunch episodes in the entire series. Some unscrupulous music agents are looking for a sucker that they can control and make famous. They set their sights on Greg Brady, eldest child of the Brady Bunch. But Greg is his own man and he has to make a very big decision to stay with the family group or sign a contract for a solo career.

This episode would have been better as a 2-part episode as there would have been much more time to develop the story. Crammed into one episode it feels too rushed. But it's still fun and it's still iconic.

Brady Bunch or Partridge Family?
gregorycanfield9 January 2023
This was a curious way to start off the fifth season. The prospect of the kids having a musical career hadn't been that firmly established in the series, but this episode plays as though it had. The episode opens with the Brady kids performing a song. Greg singing directly to Cindy was reminiscent of a Partridge Family episode. The two songs performed here are completely disposable, compared to better songs done in earlier episodes. Claudia Jennings was nice looking, but I still didn't like her character here. Her annoying male partner was even more of a drag. Greg was offered a solo career, but eventually stuck with his brothers and sisters. That was the only nice part of the episode. Also, what was with those terrible dresses the girls wore, in the closing musical performance? If they couldn't do a better songs, they could have at least let the LEGS show!

THE LEGEND OF JOHNNY BRAVO!
tcchelsey5 December 2023
I agree with the last reviewer, this episode should have been a two parter, because there was so many possibilities to this story. More over, how many Brady's get to be an overnight star?

This classic story may have been borrowed from an early PARTRIDGE FAMILY episode. In that case, it was Keith (David Cassidy) being discovered and seriously considered for movie stardom.

Here, Greg is discovered by talent agents Buddy (Paul Cavonis) and Tami (Claudia Jennings) to be the newest rock star, officially dubbed Johnny Bravo. And you have to admit, it's a cool name.

Actually, the gang was auditioning on a tv show (shades of the last season), but the agents want Greg.

The inside joke is that he is the "perfect" size and fit for the expensive costume! That seems to matter more than Greg's talent. Translation: not only are Buddy and Tammi full of baloney, they're really cheap!

This is a super episode, and a bit poignant at times, but again, could have been made even more interesting if it was longer. On a fascinating note, if Claudia Jennings looks familiar, she was a PLAYBOY model in 1969 and a PLAYMATE model in 1970, later to appear on many cop shows, such as KOJAK and CANNON. Tragically, she died in a car accident at age 29 in 1979. And she is remembered to this day.

Paul Cavonis (as Buddy) also appeared in cop shows, generally as a villain.

Recommended for all us teen superstars at heart. SEASON 5 EPISODE 1 remastered ABC/Paramount dvd box set.

Greg Wants To Go Solo

The kids audition their singing group on a TV show, a agent in the audience offers only Greg a record deal.

An OK episode for Greg. It is also the last and least of the Brady musical group shows. When he decides to accept the offer, the other kids at first are hurt but decide to support him. Things get silly when the agent and record producer try to recreate Greg's image into a fictional character called Johnny Bravo.
