"Justice League Unlimited" is a pinnacle of superhero cartoons. Had its airing not intersected with my childhood, my fascination with comics probably wouldn't have blossomed the way it did.
The terrific final product wasn't a sign of the creators always working under ideal conditions, however. In the 2000s, Warner Bros. was quite particular about letting DC Comics characters appear in more than one show at a time, apparently out of concern that audiences would be confused by multiple versions of the same character -- hence the infamous "Bat-Embargo." 2004, the year that "Justice League Unlimited" began, also saw the premiere of "The Batman," a solo cartoon about, well, Batman, but set in a different continuity. Batman's villains and supporting cast were therefore off-limits to the "Justice League" team.
Gotham City wasn't the only corner of the DC Universe hit by this embargo. Aquaman and his associated characters were also made verboten...

Reacher's Alan Ritchson 'Not Mad at All' About Justin Hartley Replacing Him as Aquaman in 2006 Pilot
Being replaced as TV’s Aquaman is water under the bridge for Alan Ritchson.
Back in Fall 2005, Ritchson guest-starred in multiple Smallville episodes as Arthur “A.C.” Curry, the first of which gave The WB its highest-rated Thursday night ever. As such, an Aquaman pilot, ultimately titled Mercy Reef, was promptly put into development.

With production due to begin on the Aquaman movie in May, we revisit the 2006 TV series pilot for The WB...
We live in times where superhero stories have been told from every possible perspective. There’s the gritty, Dark Knight-style reboot in Arrow, buoyant yet thoughtful fun in The Flash, a daft workplace sitcom in Powerless. The inundation of superhero stories contributes immensely to the juncture we’re in known as ‘peak TV’, and network execs are spending a great deal of money and time trying to locate any untapped angle. While Arrow effectively set the ball rolling when it came to the DC TV universe, it would be remiss not to mention Smallville.

Think about this for a moment: we almost had a Justice League TV series from Steven DeKnight, who worked as showrunner/executive producer on one of the finest pieces of superhero television ever with Marvel's Daredevil season one on Netflix. The Justice League TV series would have been a Smallville spinoff, featuring the team that we met in season 6, episode 11, the appropriately titled Justice. That episode teamed Clark with Bart Allen (The Flash), Arthur Curry (Aquaman), Victor Stone (Cyborg), and Oliver Queen (Green Arrow...played by Justin Hartley, not Stephen Amell).

With Aquaman finally coming to the big screen, a mere 75 years after his comic debut, DC now has to make the Atlantean hero interesting and entertaining to casual fans, as well as comic readers. They have a lot of damage to undo since Aquaman’s image has suffered over the years. Here are 5 ways that Zack Snyder and Jason Momoa can make the King of the Seas cool again.
Aquaman, Aka Arthur Curry, was created in More Fun Comics #73 in 1941. Since then, he’s been seen in several animated series, most notably the Filmation studios Superman/Aquaman Adventure Hour in 1967, and the Super Friends (1973-82). He’s also appeared in live-action form in Smallville, and the pilot film for a TV series, Aquaman: Mercy Reef, starring Justin Hartley. Now he’s making his way to the big-screen.

The Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice trailer hit and I know most people are going to focus on the Batman and Superman part, and for sure there are some easter eggs and tidbits I want to get into at a later date but as a person who is definitely going to watch the movie but wasn’t really moved by the teaser released earlier in the year, it was really Wonder Woman that stole the trailer for me.
I guess it’s not exactly shocking that a guy would zero in on Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, and while she’s sexy as hell, and that’s part of it, but I’m more coming at it from a perspective of I’ve never seen Wonder Woman in a movie before and, like everyone else, seen a ton, maybe too many Superman and Batman movies. For this reason I...

With the current comic book boom under way, you’d expect Marvel to show some love for their first-ever character—Prince Namor, the Sub-Mariner. Since legal entanglements prevent Namor from showing up in a film, why not allow the king of the seas to meet the Agents of Shield?
Last year, it was reported that Marvel has ‘mostly’ regained the rights to the character of the Sub-Mariner, but with some confusing legal hurdles. Marvel’s big boss Kevin Feige has said, “There are entanglements that make it less easy. There are older contracts that still involve other parties that mean we need to work things out before we move forward on it.” So for the time being, Prince Namor languishes in limbo, while less popular characters like Ant-Man and the Black Panther beat him to the screen. This is ironic because the Sub-Mariner is the first character the company ever made,...

Former "Friday Night Lights" star Adrianne Palicki has had multiple brushes with superhero fame -- she appeared in that weird "Aquaman" pilot thing, and played Wonder Woman herself in the David E. Kelley pilot a few years back. Now, Palicki is ready to show off her latest alter ego on "Marvel's Agents of Shield," where her character Bobbi Morse has been revealed as the secret identity of super spy Mockingbird. New photos have appeared over at Marvel.com which show off Palicki's new hi-tech espionage duds. It may look different from the comic book versions, but costume designer Ann Foley had her reasons for changing the template. See Bobbi Morse in her full tactical suit in action in next week's "Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.," airing Tuesday, October 28 at 9:00 p.m. Et on ABC. But that's not all. Next week's episode of "Agents of Shield" will also include a teaser...

During San Diego Comic-Con last month, Marvel revealed that fan-favorite character Bobbi Morse a.k.a. Mockingbird would be showing up in the second season of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Now we know not only when she’s expected to make her small screen debut, but also who will bring her to life.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Friday Night Lights actress Adrianne Palicki has been tapped to guest star as Mockingbird in the fifth episode of the upcoming season. Though she’s an Avenger in the comics (and the future wife of Hawkeye), she will debut on the series “not as an ally to Coulson and his team,” with the possibility of more appearances in the future.
This marks Palicki’s third attempt at joining a superhero TV show, as she infamously played Wonder Woman in a failed NBC pilot in 2011 and, before that, portrayed the character Nadia in a...

Former "Friday Night Lights" star Adrianne Palicki has scored the guest starring role of super spy Bobbi Morse (aka. Mockingbird) in the upcoming second season of Marvel's "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." for ABC.
Palicki will appear in the fifth episode of the new season with the potential to return, and at first may not be an ally of Agent Coulson and his team.
The actress joins an impressive line-up of guest stars for the series in the new season including Kyle MacLachlan as Skye's father, Lucy Lawless as Shield veteran Isabelle Hartly, Reed Diamond as Hydra villain Daniel Whitehall, Nick Blood as a mercenary and Henry Simmons as agent Alphonso "Mac" Mackenzie.

If you’re not a comic book fan, chances are that the only place you’ve seen Aquaman will be in shows like Family Guy and The Big Bang Theory where he has been mercilessly ridiculed. It’s not hard to understand why, especially as on the surface it appears as if the aquatic superhero does little more than talk to fish.
However, there’s a lot more to Aquaman than that, perhaps explaining why he’s set to make an appearance in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice before taking on a leading role in both Justice League and his own solo movie. Of course, none of those will mark the character’s first live-action appearance as Alan Ritchson played him in Superman TV show Smallville and he was at one point set to have his own series starring Justin Hartley.

Welcome to Issue 51 of The Marvelous DA7E!
What Is This? If this is your first time, know that Da7e is a crazy fan of comic book movie franchises. He's less a fan of coherent sentences. He thinks being a fan of something is the greatest way of loving it.
This week: So much happened, let's speculate about our main 3 universes (sorry Fox, try harder)
Oh man, it feels like it’s been a long time since we’ve talked some superhero movie news and rumors. And there’s all this Star Wars stuff happening. While I often feel Bad Robot is laughing at me, I don't always feel that way about my Marvelous Speculations. I get my fandoms a little mixed up like a sweet-sweet cocktail. Other times I wonder if Disney is just my emotional counterpoint, gripping all the franchises I love in their Mickey Mouse gloves without really caring.

Jason Momoa will play Aquaman in Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, according to multiple reports. Warner Bros. and reps for Momoa declined to comment on the Game of Thrones star's rumored casting. Mamoa has been in talks to play the DC Comics character since December, The Hollywood Reporter says. Momoa downplayed his alleged involvement in January, telling MTV News, "It's just a rumor. I swear!" The character has previously been played by Alan Ritchson in The WB/The CW's Smallville, Justin Hartley in The CW's Aquaman ill-fated pilot and Adrian Grenier (as Vinnie Chase) in HBO's Entourage. We first noticed Justin Hartley when he starred for four years on the cuckoobananas daytime soap Passions, and we were disappointed when his Aquaman pilot Mercy Reef wasn’t picked up. We could have submerged with him every week.
He didn’t leave superheroes behind, though, as he portrayed the first TV Oliver Queen, aka Green Arrow, on Smallville, and we’re thrilled that he can currently be seen as the shady and mysterious gay son of Victoria on Revenge.
Today is his 37th birthday, so let’s take a look back at some highlights … blond highlights … from his career.

It's been over a year and a half, but it seems as though the "Booster Gold" live action series is finally in motion. Earlier this week, "Arrow" producer Andrew Kreisberg announced, via Twitter, that the "Booster Gold" pilot he wrote for SyFy is finally making its way over to the television network next week. While SyFy initially ordered a pilot script from Kreisberg back in November 2011, it's likely that their decision to move ahead with the pilot was heavily influenced by the success of the CW's "Arrow."
Now it still may be a ways away, but we can't help but think of what the next steps would be towards producing an actual "Booster Gold" pilot episode. With a script from a proven successful producer in hand, all SyFy needs now is a brilliant lead actor to portray Booster Gold on the small screen. So what are our options here?...

Along with Al Gough and Miles Millar, Greg Beeman was one of the defining voices of Smallville, doing his part to enrich the journey of Clark Kent from angst-ridden teenager to his eventual destiny as Superman. And while in 2006 the producer/ director left Smallville to segue over to NBC and Tim Kring’s drama Heroes, he did manage to squeeze in the directing of the $7 million Aquaman pilot, Mercy Reef, which seemed destined to go to series, though it ultimately did not. Particularly noteworthy about the pilot is that it saw Justin Hartley in the role of Arthur Curry, prior to his being cast as Oliver Queen/Green Arrow on Smallville. Several years ago, Voices From Krypton editor Ed Gross sat down with Beeman for an exclusive interview to discuss the making of the pilot. Voices From Krypton: Overall, what’s your feeling about having directed the Aquaman pilot? Greg Beeman...

Marvel Films are sitting pretty at the moment. Their co-productions, dating back from 1998 with Blade to The Amazing Spiderman, the current reincarnation of the web-slinging hero, have dominated box-offices worldwide and reintroduced comic book superheroes to a new generation.
In June 2012, Warner Bros. announced their intention to release a film based on DC Comics’ premier superhero team – the Justice League; featuring Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman and Green Lantern. This announcement comes a month after The Avengers reaches $1 billion mark in worldwide box office takings.
The original development for a live-action Justice League movie started in 2007, when Warner Bros. had brought on scriptwriters Kieran and Michele Mulroney (best known as the scriptwriters for Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows) as well as George Miller to direct the project. Amongst the problems brought on by the 2007-08 Writers Guild of America strike and dubious casting choices, the project was put on hold.

After last year's fiasco that found NBC passing on a Wonder Woman TV series, it would seem that network execs still haven't learned that superheroes generally just won't work on the small screen. The CW has reportedly ordered a pilot for a live action Green Arrow series with Greg Berlanti and Marc Guggenheim on board to write and executive produce. The duo wrote the script for last year's Green Lantern movie so at least they have some experience with the colour green. They also worked on the short-lived TV series No Ordinary Family, which was also about a family of superheroes. Although Green Arrow appeared in quite a few episodes of Smallville, Entertainment Weekly notes that Justin Hartley, the actor who played Oliver Queen / Green Arrow on that show, will not be involved. There has been no word on the approach they might be taking for the show, but the...

The CW and Warner Bros. Television are readying a pilot order for "Arrow", a show based on the DC Comics character Green Arrow says The Live Feed.
Greg Berlanti and Marc Guggenheim ("Green Lantern") are writing and executive producing the project with their "Eli Stone" cohort Andrew Kreisberg.
The network wrapped up its young Superman series "Smallville" last May after a ten year run. In that show Justin Hartley played Green Arrow as a wealthy playboy by day and crime fighting archer by night. Hartley is not attached to this version.
The CW previously produced a pilot for an "Aquaman" TV series which wasn't picked up. That show also starred Hartley in the role of the amphibious superhero.

Television viewers still mourning the loss of "Smallville" may soon have cause to rejoice. Deadline reports that The CW is close to ordering a pilot episode of live-action superhero series "Arrow," based on DC Comics' Justice League alum, Green Arrow.
The creative minds reported to be behind the project have impeccable genre credentials. The executive producers and writers are none other than "Green Lantern" movie creators Greg Berlanti and Marc Guggenheim, plus "Fringe" vet Andrew Kreisberg.
Veteran pilot director David Nutter ("X Files," "Smallville," "Supernatural") is likely to direct.
Berlanti and Guggenheim worked with Kreisberg on "Eli Stone," and it's not the first time the trio has been linked with a rumored superhero television project. Back in November they were reported to be shopping a "Booster Gold" pilot script to Syfy.
Plus, Kreisberg has a history with the crime-busting archer, having written several issues of Green Arrow and Black Canary comics for DC.

Here's a fan made movie poster for a live-action film adaptation of Justice League directed by Christopher Nolan. We all know something like this would never happen, but it's cool to see what it might actually look like. As for the cast the poster shows Henry Cavill as Superman, Christian Bale as Batman, Bridget Regan as Wonder Woman, Ryan Reynolds as Green Lantern, Bradley Cooper as Flash, Justin Hartley as Aquaman, and Doug Jones as Jonn Jonn'z.
According to the artist Daniel Morpheus "this poster is too a tribute to the cover of Jla Gallery (1997) made by Frank Quitely." What are your thoughts on the poster design?

It Wasn't very long after Tom Welling first appeared on our televisions as the teenage Clark Kent that fans started campaigning for him to play the next big-screen Superman.
Since then, Brandon Routh ended up taking the role in Bryan Singer's Superman Returns and Henry Cavill is starring in Zack Snyder's Man of Steel, now filming and due out in June 2013.
Ten years later, in Smallville's 10th season, Welling has at last had his chance to put on the red and blue costume and take to the skies.
It means the journey is finally over for Tom's self-doubting young hero - and for the audience who have watched for a decade as he gradually embraced his powers and his purpose to become Superman.

Clark (Tom Welling) takes another look at the engagement ring, when waiting for Lois (Erica Durance). He's made reservations for dinner at an expensive restaurant, but she prefers to just have dessert at home. He promises her dessert even if he he has to fly to Madrid for cherries and hot chocolate. Lois wants to spend time with him, yet she was stopping him at every opportunity when he was coming up with all the suggestions and having booked a busy restaurant too. She'd like to pretend for one night that the world isn't crazy. The government has updated their status from vigilantes to terrorists. Clark calls Lois at the phonebox and tells her to look up, he throws petals from the sky and then proposes on bended knee. Now that's how a proposal should be, unashamedly romantic: raining petals from the night sky. Clark tells her she's "the woman...

Nicolas Winding Refn's Drive seemed to make just as big a splash at the Los Angeles Film Festival last week as it did in Cannes when I saw it and loved it. The film stars Ryan Gosling, whom the director is already scheduled to reteam with on a remake of Logan's Run at Warner Bros. and both already confirmed with the Los Angeles Times they are planning on working together on a New York-set romantic comedy, which they hope they can convince Drive co-star Albert Brooks to write.
And speaking of Drive co-stars, Refn has plans for Christina Hendricks (pictured), the buxom red-head best known for her work on "Mad Men" who has a small role in the director's latest film. Speaking with Vulture he commented on the not-so-secret fact that he wants to direct a Wonder Woman adaptation should he ever direct a superhero movie and that if...

Incredibly the NBC execs looked at Adrianne Palicki in the classic costume and said, “No way.” I had big concerns regarding the script and whether or not David E. Kelley’s style of TV would mesh with super heroics. But it’s still disheartening that the Amazon princess should come so far and fall short. I’m sure the pilot will be seen, probably distributed on the internet just like the “Aquaman” pilot from several years back. But until then we still have the Lynda Carter series from the '70s. The '70s were a surprisingly...

NBC passing on the David E. Kelley / Adrianne Palicki starring Wonder Woman reboot is not among one of the greater losses of our generation. Fans heavily criticized both published images of the superhero's costume, as well as leaked script pages, audition tapes and the rewrites added to make the character more badass.
So what then was the real tragedy? We already knew that the series wouldn't be utilizing the classic costume, but NBC President Robert Greenblatt assured fans the classic short-shorts would at the very least be seen as an outfit among Diana's wardrobe. Well, crew member Christopher Cooley tweeted out a shot of star Adrianne Palicki in the full (or should we say short?) costume, and in a word?
Damn.
I mean good gravy, folks. NBC likely spared us a season's worth of headaches by not picking up the well-publicized reboot, but I'd pay the production costs myself if...

Poor Wonder Woman. All that strength, and all that buzz behind the series, and she wasn't strong enough for NBC.
According to Deadline, NBC has decided to pass on the much-hyped David E. Kelley Wonder Woman TV series. The pilot may be shopped to another network at some point, but the passing deals a crushing blow to the already-overblown production.
Numerous factors reportedly led the network to pass on the prolific reboot, including early negative reaction to leaked script pages and audition tapes, to fan thoughts on the costume, and ultimately poor word-of-mouth for the pilot itself. The news isn't all bad for David E. Kelley, who still maintains active duty on the recently-renewed Harry's Law.
It's not to say that we may never see the series' pilot, per say. The CW similarly passed on a live-action adaptation of Aquaman before releasing its pilot through iTunes.

Christopher Nolan may well be wrapping up his Batman story with upcoming third film The Dark Knight Rises but anyone who thinks we won't be seeing any more of the caped crusader must be out of their mind.
Warner Bros isn't going to abandon a franchise that has so far earned more than a billion dollars from just two films.
And that is even more certain now that the Harry Potter series is coming to an end and leaving blank spaces on the summer blockbuster calendar.
So what will happen next with Batman? How will they continue the character and what else is brewing with DC Comics' adaptations on the big screen?
Warner Bros motion picture group president Jeff Robinov has the answers.

Adrianne Palicki, best known for her role in the former NBC series “Friday Night Lights,” has been cast in the network’s “Wonder Woman” pilot as the DC Comics superheroine.
The pilot, written by David E. Kelley (”Ally McBeal”, “Boston Legal”), picks up in an alternate reality where the international public is aware of Wonder Woman and her affiliation with Themyscira Industries (think Iron Man and Stark Industries).
Flashbacks hint of her Amazonian origins on Paradise Island and a love affair with Steve Trevor, a government employee who accidentally crashed on the hidden island years ago.
But Diana/Wonder Woman is unable to return to either and is left cleaning up the streets with her magical golden lasso, arguing her case at a Congressional hearing (ahem, Iron Man 2) and lamenting her lost life/love with her best friend and publicist, Myndi. Adrianne Palicki has been chosen to play Wonder Woman/Diana Prince/Diana Themyscira in the upcoming David E. Kelley reimagining of the classic '70s television show.
Palicki recently appeared on the failed Fox show Lone Star but is probably better known for her work as Tyra on Friday Night Lights. As far as I know, I haven’t seen her in anything, but she seems to fit the bill perfectly.
Palicki is in her late 20s; she's 5’11” and played basketball and ran track in high school. According to IMDb, she has a tattoo of her parents' names on her arm, so I guess she's that rare combination of hip and sweet. But can she act?
It seems she can. Deadline opines that her performance on Lone Star was a "standout," and generated "a lot of talk about [her] star potential." And while she's done some work on middling fare such as Supernatural and South Beach,...

"Friday Night Lights" star Adrianne Palicki has landed the coveted role of Wonder Woman in a forthcoming TV series based on the iconic comic book superhero made famous by Lynda Carter in the 1970s.
The Amazonian superhero has struggled to get herself to the screen over the past decade, but now that NBC has nabbed David E. Kelley's "Wonder Woman" TV series, production is finally under way. And it makes sense that Palicki, who spent three seasons on "Friday Night Lights," is the woman who landed the lead, considering "Friday Night Lights" director and producer Jeffrey Reiner is directing the show's pilot episode.

Barely a day after a casting sheet for David E. Kelley's upcoming "Wonder Woman" NBC pilot emerged, the star has been named. Wielder of the Lasso of Truth, defender of peace and justice, ladies and gentlemen and fanfolk, our new Wonder Woman is Adrianne Palicki.
The "Friday Night Lights" star was confirmed for the role yesterday evening, according to Variety.
Palicki will play the Amazonian DC Comics superheroine in the pilot scripted by Kelley, which Variety also confirmed will be directed by Jeffrey Reiner, another "Friday Night Lights" alum who was reported to be finalizing a deal for the gig late last week.
Palicki is the second TV Wonder Woman, following Lynda Carter's role on the ABC/CBS series "The New Original Wonder Woman"/"The New Adventures of Wonder Woman." The series ran for a total of three seasons across the two networks, from 1975-1979. That series spawned...

It's a tough job, casting someone to be the most beautiful (and ass-kicking) woman in the universe, but David E. Kelley has found his Wonder Woman: Adrianne Palicki.
Kelley, the "Ally McBeal" and "Boston Legal" creator who inked a deal with NBC in October to bring the iconic DC Comics character back to television for the first time since the 70's, cast Palicki, best known for her star turn in "Friday Night Lights," as his heroine. And she'll have to be something of a real superhuman to pull off all that he'll be asking of her.
With the new series set in modern day Los Angeles, Palicki will actually be taking on three roles: gritty crime fighter Wonder Woman; her first alter-ego, billionaire business woman Diana Themyscira; And her assistant, Diana Prince.
She'll have to be fast, one assumes, to get her CEO self the latte that she demands her assistant self to get,...

Warner Bros. has found their new Wonder Woman. Adrianne Palicki, familiar to TV viewers as a series regular on the first three seasons of "Friday Night Lights," has been named the new Amazon superheroine who will star in the NBC's reinvention of the DC Comics character.
In "Wonder Woman," the titular heroine, a.k.a. Diana Prince, is a vigilante crime fighter in Los Angeles who works as a successful corporate executive and modern woman trying to balance all of the elements of her extraordinary life.
David E. Kelley wrote the pilot, while Jeffrey Reiner will the direct the series.
Palicki follows the footsteps of Lynda Carter, who famously held the role in the '70s TV series. She previously appeared as the evil Siren in the WB pilot "Aquaman," and in the short-lived Fox drama "Lone Star."...

Meet the new Wonder Woman.
Adrianne Palicki is to star in NBC's new Wonder Woman series pilot, it's been announced today.
The 27-year-old actress - who seems to have the ideal Amazonian stature at 5ft 11ins - is a series regular in the network's Friday Night Lights high-school football drama. She also appeared in Supernatural and is in the upcoming remake of Red Dawn.
In addition, she was in the 2010 apocalyptic flick Legion and superhero fans will know she played the villainous Siren in the Aquaman pilot, which wasn't picked up for a full series.
The Wonder Woman pilot has been scripted by David E. Kelley (Boston Legal, Ally McBeal, Harry's Law) and will be directed by Jeffrey Reiner (NBC's The Event). Kelley is also an executive producer along with Bill D'Elia (Boston Legal, The Practice).
See below for details of other main characters who are still to be cast.

And the lead role for NBC and David E. Kelley's Wonder Woman goes to... Adrianne Palicki, a woman you might recognize from some stuff, depending on your love for pop-corny supernatural thrillers (Supernatural) or critically beloved shows that ended before their time (Friday Night Lights, Lone Star). Palicki also appeared in the (unaired) pilots of Aquaman and The Robinsons: Lost In Space, so this wouldn't be her first time at the sci-fi rodeo. According to her IMDb page, she played basketball and ran track in high school, and stands at what would be a very imposing 5'11," which will hopefully translate well into playing a superhero. (I was still holding out for a professional kickboxer or something. I wanted Wonder Woman to have some serious guns.) But this Wonder Woman is also a high-powered business executive and a normal girl who likes slumber parties with her besties. [...]...
