M. Ward has announced his new album Supernatural Thing, which is set to release on June 23rd. As a preview, he’s released the record’s title track.
The album is Ward’s first in three years and features contributions from Neko Case, First Aid Kit, Jim James, Kelly Pratt, Shovels & Rope, and Scott McMicken. It also includes two covers — one of David Bowie’s “I Can’t Give Everything Away” from his final album Blackstar, and a live recording of Daniel Johnston’s “Story of an Artist.”
“Supernatural Thing” as a single is an acoustic guitar-driven ditty with a jovial atmosphere, based on a message that came to Ward in a dream by none other than Elvis — “You can go anywhere you please.”
“Well, all my songs depend on dream imagery to some extent,” Ward said in a press release. “This was an actual dream I had about Elvis...

When Ohio-born rapper Trippie Redd first burst onto the scene in 2017, Donald J. Trump was about to start his first presidential term, Juice Wrld and XXXTentacion were alive, and SoundCloud rap was the new transgressive genre making waves. Back then, Redd contributed to the urgent-sounding genre with his first commercial mixtape, A Love Letter to You. A Love Letter to You was Soundcloud rap, but it also strategized Redd’s rapping ability, first and foremost; songs would be showcases. “Can You Rap Like This?” is a boom bap song, reminding...

Carly Rae Jepsen is okay with being on her own – in fact, she’s intrigued by the concept. The singer will explore isolation in her newly-announced fifth studio album The Loneliest Time, set for release on Oct. 21 via Interscope Records.
“I’m quite fascinated by loneliness,” Jepsen tweeted alongside the album announcement. “It can be really beautiful when you turn it over and look at it. Just like love, it can cause some extreme human reactions.”

Exclusive: WME has signed writer/directors Stéphanie Chuat and Véronique Reymond, whose My Little Sister is Switzerland’s entry to the Oscar’s International Feature Film category this year. Both women are also accomplished actresses who have previous directing credits that include 2010’s multi-award-winning The Little Bedroom, their debut that starred Michel Bouquet and which was also that year’s Academy Award submission.
My Little Sister stars Nina Hoss and premiered in competition at the Berlin Film Festival earlier this year. It’s the story of Berlin-born twins Lisa (Hoss) and Sven (Lars Eidinger) who have a lifelong shared passion for theater. Billy Crudup is one of those actors that doesn't get a lot of attention, but who I think is consistently solid. He's been terrific in movies like Big Fish, Almost Famous, Dedication, Spotlight, and Watchmen, and now he's reuniting with Warner Bros. for another superhero movie.
Variety reports that Crudup has been cast as Barry Allen's father in The Flash, the Scarlet Speedster's solo film that's being directed by Dope helmer Rick Famuyiwa. In the comics and The CW series, the character's name is Henry Allen, but there's no mention of that character name in the report. With the way minor characters like Jimmy Olsen have been treated so far in the DC Extended Universe, there's no telling if the studio intends on honoring the source material here or creating their own new backstory for Barry and his family. Either way, Crudup is a great actor and he's a welcome addition to this cast.

"There's only one criminal mastermind who could be behind all this." Paramount has unleashed the first amusing trailer for the long-awaited sequel Zoolander 2, starring Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson as male models Zoolander and Hansel. This is a full-on trailer that actually spends time explaining the story and the characters, showing tons of footage including some hilarious sets and all the endlessly amazing costumes. Penélope Cruz co-stars with Kristen Wiig, Christine Taylor, Billy Zane and of course, Will Ferrell as Mugatu. I'm still not sure if this is going to top the original, but at least they're giving it a shot. Enjoy! Here's the new full-length trailer for Justin Theroux's Zoolander 2, direct from Paramount's YouTube: Zoolander 2 is directed by Ben Stiller (director of Zoolander, Tropic Thunder, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty) and written by Justin Theroux (writer of Tropic Thunder, director of Dedication). "If God exists, then why did he make ugly people?" Paramount has unveiled the first official teaser trailer for Ben Stiller's highly anticipated sequel Zoolander 2, starring Ben Stiller and directed by Ben Stiller. The cast includes a whole bunch of other names, but this teaser only features Stiller as Derek Zoolander and some fun CGI animation. Oh, and Stephen Hawking's voice, or so it sounds like it's him. Owen Wilson did show up at the catwalk event earlier this year, so he's still in the mix in this somewhere. This teaser is presumably playing in front of Mission: Impossible all weekend, but in the meantime you can catch it below. Earlier this month, Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson made a surprise appearance at the end of the Valentino fashion show during Fashion Week in Paris, each in character as Derek Zoolander and Hansel for the forthcoming comedy sequel Zoolander 2. But the fun with the male model duo isn't over yet as some new photos have surfaced from Valentino's Facebook page. Production hasn't officially begun yet, but surely these photos could be used in some capacity for the film, perhaps in some kind of photo montage. What's cool is that they're actually wearing real clothes from Valetino's fashion, just like real models. Look below! Here's some new photos of Ben Stiller & Owen Wilson for Zoolander 2 (via Collider): You can check out Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson's full catwalk right here. Zoolander 2 has officially been announced as Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson took over Paris Fashion Week in character as Derek Zoolander and Hansel as part of an announcement the sequel to the 2001 comedy would be arriving on February 12, 2016. Granted, we pretty much already knew this was happening, with Will Ferrell expected to return as Mugatu and Penelope Cruz joining the cast as Justin Theroux (Dedication) steps in to direct. Still no official word on a synopsis, but last heard it would find Derek (Stiller) hired to be a personal model for an Arab Sheikh which is when he finds out models are being turned into oil. Sounds good to me. Watch video of Stiller and Wilson as Derk and Hansel as they take the runway below. sb id="1497463" height="360" width="640"...

Woody Allen’s back catalogue casts a long shadow across contemporary romantic comedy. His tropes and trademarks are as ingrained into the collective sense memory as mother’s perfume. At the first tremble of a clarinet, mutter about mortality or meander across a Manhattan neighbourhood, we inhale the nostalgia like Bisto kids. And arguably we’d never have met Harry and Sally, walked the Sidewalks of New York or dined alongside Friends with Money without his influence.
The Longest Week is peppered with Woody base notes. Over the course of seven days, Conrad (Jason Bateman) has been stripped of the safety net of his wealth and the cushion of his ego, moved in with his cynical best friend (Billy Crudup) and accidentally fallen in love with his girl (Olivia Wilde). His eventual dilemma – to be or not to be a better man – is as timeless as Annie Hall.

Remember back in 2010, when Justin Theroux was hired to write and direct “Zoolander 2”? The announcement was seen as a little odd at the time, but Theroux did have a small role in the original movie and was coming off successful writing contributions to Ben Stiller’s “Tropic Thunder” and “Iron Man 2.” And there was also the matter of Theroux's directorial debut, the little-seen indie film “Dedication” starring Billy Crudup and Mandy Moore. There hasn’t been a lot of movement on the project since. Ben Stiller said in 2011 that the ball was in Paramount’s court and he and Theroux had handed in a draft. But many assumed the relative underperformance of “Anchorman 2: The Legend Of Ron Burgundy” might have been the final nail in its coffin. The Will Ferrell-starring comedy lived a similar lifespan as 'Zoolander': a beloved cult-comedy that eventually inched its way...

Woody Allen has added several actors to his latest movie, which already stars Colin Firth and Emma Stone. Among the additions is a trio of acclaimed actresses: Eileen Atkins ("Cold Mountain"), Academy Award-winner Marcia Gay Harden ("Pollock," "Into the Wild"), Academy Award nominee Jacki Weaver ("Silver Linings Playbook"). Rounding out the crop is indie favorite Hamish Linklater ("42," "The Future"), Simon McBurney ("The Last King of Scotland"), Erica Leerhsen ("Hollywood Ending") and Tony Award nominee Jeremy Shamos ("Dedication"). Woody Allen seems to have assembled a something-for-everyone cast of film regulars and young stars. The film is untitled as of now, but it is currently shooting in the South of France.

Even as tabloids continue to call upon him hourly to do the honorable thing, Justin Theroux has signed on to rewrite and direct the Warner Bros. comedy Swear To God instead of marrying girlfriend Jennifer Aniston and giving her babies. Deadline reports that Theroux, who still hasn't even bought a ring, will follow his 2008 directorial debut Dedication (ironically titled, considering his obvious total lack of it) by helming the film in which Will Ferrell plays a "narcissistic hedge fund manager" who believes he's seen God, and reunites with his Anchorman co-star Steve Carell in an as-yet-unspecified role ...

Ferrell's Anchorman co-star, one Steve Carell, is newly tapped to co-star in the buddy film about "a narcissistic hedge fund manager who thinks he has seen God."...

Years and years on, I can’t quite “figure out” Justin Theroux. The actor-writer has appeared in great films (Mulholland Dr.) and terrible ones (Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle), scripted some quality material (Tropic Thunder) and total dreck (Rock of Ages). I don’t even know where the heck this guy came from. Did David Lynch and Ben Stiller just discover him at the same time?
Then, one evening, I read he’s been tapped to direct a comedy starring Will Ferrell and Steve Carell. (A mystery worthy of its own Inland Empire subplot.) News of the hiring comes from Deadline, who report he’ll direct the pair in Warner Bros. and Gary Sanchez Productions’ I Swear to God, which will begin shooting in July.

Justin Theroux's career as a triple threat actor, director, and writer continues. Coming off another strong comedic turn in this year's hippie colony comedy "Wanderlust," Theroux is set to follow-up his underrated feature-film debut, "Dedication" with a new comedy called, "Swear To God." Even better, his A-list cast will include Will Ferrell and Steve Carell, who will reunite sometime later this year (or early next year) for "Anchorman 2." A Warner Bros./Gary Sanchez comedy that's been sitting in the development queue since last summer with Ferell at the center, the comedy will focus on a narcissistic hedge fund manager who thinks he has seen God. Previously written by "Due Date" scribes Alan R. Cohen and Alan Freedland, Theroux, who's also forged a strong career as a screenwriter ("Iron Man 2," "Tropic Thunder"), will rewrite the script. You get the feeling that there's much more to Mandy Moore than both her pop-singing career and her disastrous movie career has suggested so far. Why, otherwise, would Tk have a lady-crush on her? And why would Ryan Adams -- one of the best singer/songwriters around -- marry a pop princess? Other than the fact that they make a great singing duo?
I got nothing against Moore myself. She doesn't make good movies, and she's not even a particularly good actress. But she's likable. And sweet. And I'd like her to do well. I just wish she'd stop making these bland, homogeneous script-software written joyless romantic comedies (although, she's definitely worth catching in the mostly unseen, completely forgotten Billy Crudup indie romance, Dedication). Love, Wedding, Marriage looks to be the latest embarrassment to her career, and it's not doing any favors to her image. And, damnit, you have to...

In Hollywood, Justin Theroux puts most other multi-hyphenates to shame. The 38-year-old actor is already well-known for roles in film (Mulholland Drive, Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle) and TV (Six Feet Under), and he even directed the Sundance entry Dedication, but after co-writing the Ben Stiller comedy Tropic Thunder, he's suddenly become the town's most in-demand screenwriter. Iron Man 2 is his latest credit, though Theroux's got many more scripts on his plate, including Space Invader, Chief Ron, and Zoolander 2, the latter of which he'll direct. (If you'd rather see him in front of a camera, never fear: he'll play the villain in next year's James Franco/Danny McBride stoner comedy Your Highness).
Movieline already teased a little bit of our interview with Theroux; now, here's the rest, where he describes his unlikely career shift, the unorthodox Iron Man 2 writing process, and what he's got planned for the Zoolander franchise.

Chicago – Justin Theroux has a long resume as both a cult actor (”Muholland Dr.”) and screenwriter (”Tropic Thunder”). Through a key connection and his own point-of-view, he was hired to write “Iron Man 2,” the sequel to one of the biggest blockbusters ever.
Theroux is best known as an actor, especially in films for director David Lynch – both Muholland and “Inland Empire.” He has done stints in television, in “The District,” “Six Feet Under” and “Parks and Recreation.” He even topped those recently by playing John Hancock in the multi-award winning “John Adams” miniseries on HBO.
His breakthrough screenplay was 2008’s “Tropic Thunder,” which starred Robert Downey, Jr. (who plays Tony Stark/Iron Man), which led to his latest assignment, the screenplay for Iron Man 2.

Ben Stiller has been talking about a "Zoolander" sequel for a while, but Deadline is now reporting that Paramount Pictures has finally agreed to move forward. "Tropic Thunder" writer Justin Theroux has been brought on to pen the script that Stiller will help with. Theroux will also direct, even though he has only previously helmed "Dedication" back in 2007. Stiller will return for the sequel and everyone is hoping that Owen Wilson will co-star again, but a deal has yet to be made. And the studio is already in negotiations with Jonah Hill to play the villain. Back in May, Stiller appeared on some talk show where he revealed story ideas for "Zoolander 2." "Derek gets hired to be a personal model for an Arab Sheikh and he finds out models are being turned into oil," he said.

Yep, it's coming. After hearing rumors about it for years, it's actually happening. Deadline Hollywood is reporting that Paramount has hired Justin Theroux (who wrote Tropic Thunder and Iron Man 2 and has only directed Dedication) to write and direct Zoolander 2, the sequel to Ben Stiller's male fashion model comedy from 2001. Apparently Theroux is even going to Fashion Week in Paris to "immerse himself on what is current in fashion." I guess Paramount heard all the cries for this sequel because they finally admit that "it's got momentum." They just now realized that? I know people have been hoping to see this since 2001! Deadline doesn't say much else about the sequels besides that Ben Stiller is back and "everyone's hoping Owen Wilson co-stars again but no deal is set." They also sneak in a little tidbit that says Jonah Hill is in negations to play the villain. What ...

The Sundance Institute announced Monday three late additions to the 2010 Sundance film festival program, running Jan. 21-31.
The new films are "It's a Wonderful Afterlife," a comedy directed by Gurinder Chadha and written by Paul Mayeda Berges and Chadha; "The Romantics," a comedy directed by Galt Niederhoffer, who adapted the script from her own novel; and "The Kids Are Alright," directed by Lisa Cholodenko, who wrote the screenplay with Stuart Blumberg.
All three films are world premieres that will screen out of competition, and all three filmmakers have had their work screened at Sundance in the past.
"When the opportunity to screen the latest films from three extremely innovative storytellers presented itself, we knew we could not deny our audiences," said festival director John Cooper. "As an added bonus, all three are alumni of the festival, so we are thrilled to be able to support them returning to Sundance with their newest work.

Justin Theroux is something of a Renaissance man in Hollywood. As an actor, Theroux has appeared on numerous TV shows and in over a dozen movies, including acclaimed filmmaker David Lynch's Mulholland Dr. In addition, Theroux also works behind the scenes and behind the camera. He produced and wrote the script for Tropic Thunder and he wrote and directed Dedication.
Theroux recently tried his hand at the superhero genre, penning the script for the sequel to director Jon Favreau's adaptation of the classic Marvel Comics character Iron Man. Now, THR is reporting that Theroux has been hired by Fox to write a draft of Space Invader, a romantic comedy set in space that was originally written by Mike Lisbe and Nate Reger. Will Arnett (Arrested Development) will star in Space Invader as a man who follows his wife into space because he suspects her of cheating on him...

Mandy Moore started her career as a bubblegum pop princess, and has spent the last ten years or so moving away from that, going back to her natural brown hair, starring in indies like Dedication, and marrying Ryan Adams. But now that she's older, she's going right back where she started, with plans to play Rapunzel in Disney's 3D-animated version of the classic fairy tale. Moore recently talked to Empire a little bit about her plans for the character. "She's sort of the quintessential sassy, feisty Disney heroine. She's quite modern, quite a curious girl as well. She's just coming into her own and is anxious to figure out a way to see the world around her that she's been kept away from for so many years." I pretty much expected that Disney would vary the film from its roots as a simple rescue story, but it's refreshing to hear...

Fresh off his screenwriting gig on Iron Man 2, Variety announces that Justin Theroux has landed his second gig as director, and first for a major studio. In 2007 Theroux directed the indie Dedication, about "about a misanthropic children’s book author who tries to find love with a sweet-natured illustrator". Now he'll helm a film called Chief Ron for Universal, based on the story of Chief Ron Roberts, a blonde-haired, blue-eyed chap who claimed Native American ancestry in a bid to open an east coast casino. The real Ron won out, but will Theroux? More after the jump. The real Ron Roberts (aka Chief Golden Eagle) went to court to justify his claims of Mohegan ancestry, and campaigned to create and operate a casino and cultural center first near Albany, then in the Catskills. Funny how no one believed the blond/blue-eyed guy was Native. There's an interesting story there,...

The multi-hyphenated actor/writer/director/producer Justin Theroux is set to direct "Chief Ron."
Based on the true story of Chief Ron Roberts, the comedy tells the tale of a conman who claims Mohegan ancestry in order to open a casino.
But his blonde hair and blue eyes are dead giveaway, yet Roberts prevailed in court and is currently building a casino in upstate New York!
(Read Ron Roberts' court case here)
This will be the first major studio directing job for Theroux who wrote the script for "Iron Man 2" and co-wrote and exec produced "Tropic Thunder."
Theroux made his directing debut with the indie "Dedication" that was shown at 2007 Sundance.

If you were wondering what Justin Theroux was doing after he finished writing Iron Man 2, you should mind your own business. But if you're curious what he's working on, we can probably fill you in. Since we've been camped outside of his house with a pair of binoculars that Neil got from a box of Frosted Flakes. They don't have much range, but theyyyy're great for hiding in plain sight. According to Variety, and our spy log, Universal has just hired the Tropic Thunder writer to direct the comedy Chief Ron - the story of a man who fakes a Native American heritage in order to start a casino. I was really excited to hear they were doing a sequel to the hilarious, Kurt Russell masterpiece Captain Ron, but apparently that's not what this movie is. The concept is based off the real-life story of the very-Aryan-looking Ron Roberts, although...

It was only a matter of time. Justin Theroux started his behind-the-scenes career normally enough by directing 2007's Dedication, an indie that had a limited release before heading to DVD. But then he grabbed a pen and exploded into the mainstream, writing both Tropic Thunder and Iron Man 2. So what comes next? A more high-profile directorial gig, although not quite as epic as his Thunder and Iron, with big shoes to fill.
Variety reports that Theroux will helm the upcoming comedy Chief Ron, and according to The New York TImes, Ron Howard used to be attached as director. It's also a weird little project. It seems that there's a blue-eyed, blonde-haired man who claims that he has native Mohegan heritage, and fought his way through court for the right to build a casino in upstate New York (which is currently being built). The trade also says he's a conman,...

Variety reports that Universal and Imagine have signed Justin Theroux to direct Chief Ron, a comedy about a man who claims he is a descendant of the Mohegan tribe in an attempt to open a casino. The story is based on the true story of Ron Roberts, who courts allowed to build a casino in upstate New York, despite his Aryan looks.
Theroux has starred in several movies, including Mulholland Drive, Zoolander, and Miami Vice. He also co-wrote and produced Tropic Thunder and most recently finished the script for Iron Man 2. His only other directorial credit is Dedication, which was released two years ago and starred Billy Crudup and Tom Wilkinson.
Chief Ron is also the second feature-length narrative script from Jordan Roberts, who wrote Around the Bend as well as the narration for the U.S. release of March of the Penguins.

From actor to writer to director. Justin Theroux, who first started out as an actor and starred in David Lynch's two most recent films, is set to direct his second feature, titled Chief Ron, for Universal. After directing the Mandy Moore indie drama Dedication in 2007, Theroux ended up co-writing Tropic Thunder with Ben Stiller. When that became a huge hit, he was hired by Marvel to help write the screenplay for Iron Man 2. Now he's back in the director's seat with Chief Ron, a comedy about a conman who claims he's Mohegan in an attempt to open a casino. I'm already digging the concept and I barely know what it's about. Yes, what the world wants is more Downey, and Marvel Studios is looking to give it to them.Justin Theroux is in final talks to pen Iron Man 2, the sequel to the superhero hit. So far, Theroux has only written one film -- appropriately, Tropic Thunder, which he is producing and has an acting role in. He is better known as an actor, playing roles in mostly dark, dramatic roles. His best known characters include a director in David Lynch's 'Mulholland Dr.', an actor in Lynch's 'Inland Empire', and Evil DJ in 'Zoolander'. His directorial debut, Dedication, was released last year.

Tony Stark is working on a new suit.
Justin Theroux is in final negotiations with Marvel Studios to write "Iron Man 2," the sequel to this summer's breakout blockbuster.
"Iron Man," Marvel's first release, has banked $566 million worldwide since opening May 2. It was written by Mark Fergus & Hawk Ostby and Art Marcum & Matt Holloway and directed by Jon Favreau, who is in final negotiations to direct the sequel.
Paramount distributed the first film and will kick off the summer season two years hence with the sequel on April 30, 2010.
Theroux, repped by UTA and 3 Arts Entertainment, has story and screenplay credit, along with Ben Stiller, on next month's DreamWorks action-comedy "Tropic Thunder." He also is a producer on the movie.
Known primarily as an actor -- he's played everything from Jesus H. Christ ("The Ten"), John Hancock (HBO's "John Adams") and Evil DJ ("Zoolander") to the hapless director Adam Kesher in David Lynch's "Mulholland Dr." -- Theroux is on a career-changing tear. Last year he directed his first film, "Dedication," which the Weinstein Co. released.

Justin Theroux's work as a screenwriter is limited, limited to Tropic Thunder and nothing more. Now, he has been handed the keys to the 2010 castle as Paramount has hired him to write Iron Man 2, a follow-up to this year's highest grossing film. Theroux is best known as an actor in such films as Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle, Miami Vice, the HBO mini-series "John Adams" as John Hancock and he will also have a small part in Tropic Thunder. Last year he directed Mandy Moore and Billy Crudup in Dedication, marking his feature film directing debut just as Tropic Thunder marked his scripting debut. Jon Favreau and Robert Downey Jr. are both back for the sequel as director and star respectively. There is no word on plot or what direction the film will be heading.

Amid an unexpected feeding frenzy at the Sundance Film Festival, indie mogul Harvey Weinstein continued to gobble up a smorgasbord of films. In the wake of deals for Grace Is Gone and a co-buy with Lionsgate of Teeth, the Weinstein Co., partnering with First Look Studios, bought worldwide rights to the Justin Theroux-directed romantic comedy Dedication for $4 million. Then, partnering with Fox Searchlight, it took world rights on the Mexican heart-tugger La Misma Luna for $5 million-$6 million.
"It's like Bloomingdale's before Christmas," said ThinkFilm's Mark Urman, who plunked down a hefty sum -- more than $2.5 million -- for the docu In the Shadow of the Moon. "It's a stronger collection of films. It's ironic that Sundance wanting to focus on films that were less commercial has made the festival more of a market than ever."
Paramount Vantage, which seemed to be staying out of the spotlight, announced Tuesday the acquisition of worldwide rights to two films, How She Move, for which it paid slightly $3 million in partnership with MTV Films, and Son of Rambow, the fest's biggest buy so far at about $7 million. Those two purchases were notable because neither film features any recognizable actors.
After the Cinetic Media party Monday night at Zoom, a number of deep-pocketed buyers, from Sony Pictures Classics to Lionsgate, jumped into yet another bidding war over the Mexican film Luna, directed by Patricia Riggen. The bilingual, border-crossing drama about a boy searching for his mother, eventually sold at dawn Tuesday to Searchlight and the Weinstein Co.
Weinstein and Searchlight president Peter Rice partnered on Zach Braff's 2004 Sundance pickup Garden State. Searchlight will take the lead in North America and South America, while the two companies will pick and choose which will handle international territories on a case-by-case basis, they said. They will split the global pot 50-50.
The film has the potential to reach Latin American moviegoers and a wide crossover audience not only in the U.S. but around the world, producer Ram Bergman said. "Harvey was passionate about the picture," he said. "He got the movie. The combination of Fox domestic and Weinstein international is the best of both worlds."
Luna stars recent Golden Globe winner America Ferrera (Ugly Betty) as well as Adrian Alonso (The Legend of Zorro). Written by Ligiah Villalobos, Riggen and Villalobos produced the film along with Gerardo Barrera, Norman Dreyfuss and Bergman.
